Avoid at high season unless you are guaranteed a room with a pool view
1 / 10
Aug 2011, 15 Glade, Cardiff

On arrival we were allocated a room opposite the roudy Sol y Vera apartments even though we had emailed the hotel prior to arrival requesting a pool view. We were checked in by Miguel who was most "unwelcoming" and after a sleepless night due to the noise of the apartments opposite (drunken youngster who even had a tannoy system on the balcony) managed to change rooms to a quiet pool view room. It was even more annoying that Miguel had confirmed we had been allocated a quiet room when we checked in when he obviously new different. The food was good and restaurant service was excellent, sun loungers did not cause any problems as they were plentiful. Unfortunately towards the end of the holiday an expensive pair of D & G sunglasses "disappeared" from the bedside cabinet. Avoid at high season unless you are guaranteed a pool view.

Having been here in 2009 and enjoying quietness of the hotel and amenities, we decided to return with our family...our daughter and two grandchildren, 18 and 11.
IN A WORD...MISTAKE!!!
The hotel itself has not changed at all, BUT, a lot of the 'YOB' culture seems to have migrated from the other end of town to occupy the surrounding self-catering blocks of flats from which there is relentless amount of noise, shouting and bad language mostly during the early or late evening and early mornings, upon return from the local bars and disco's. Several of the guests (INCLUDING OURSELVES) asked to be relocated to rooms away from the noise. This the did for us after 3 nights without sleep!!!
This was not just confined to the surrounding flats, but did also occur within the hotel itself on occasions. We, and others, reported the perpetrators to the management who, to be fair, confronted the guilty parties, warning them to be quiet...or be asked to leave the hotel.
Another problem was that various occupants of the local flats decided to unleash several empty glass beer bottles on to the childrens pool area, causing the pools to be closed due to chards of glass which cut several chilrens feet...Including my youngest Grandchild.
Other than the above, I can report that the hotel and rooms were always clean. Food was plentiful and varied. Drinks in the hotel were pricey and usually small measure. Evening entertainment was poorer, than on our first visit in 2009. The hotel sells newspapers...at a price...Daily Mail for example...2.50 euro. Across the street, 2.20 euro.
Sunbeds...be ready for 'the cavalry charge' at 8.30 every morning...towels at the ready...open the door and..."CHARGE!!!". My daughter was barged out of a man's way in order for him to 'book' his usual 3 beds....OFFICIALLY, THE HOTEL DOES NOT ALLOW THIS....the same happened on our 2009 visit.
Anyway, enough said in this report...Would We recommend this hotel for families....NO, NO, NO

  • Advice: Too much noise and disturbance from neighbouring cheap high-rise flats

This hotel was amazing. Great room, great location, great food, great pool, great bar, all in all a top class amazing hotel that i can not pick a fault with.
We had an excellent stay at this hotel, the staff were so helpful, the other people on holiday were so nice which made this stay even better.
We read reviews that this hotel was very loud and full of young people which was not the case. We stayed here for eleven nights and two of them nights we heard noise late at night but this was only people making there way back to there room, you heard them walking to there room but when they got into there room that was it, silence. Also it was not only young people here, it was mixed, hotel was full of young couples, old couples, groups of people, familys, some familys with young children and even old people here.

  • Advice: Excellent hotel and a excellent place to visit.

Just returned from this beautiful hotel and would just like to let everyone know that it is a fab hotel. Cleanliness is superb and the food was great, it catered for everyones needs, the hotel entertainment wasnt too hot but if you get the chace to watch the Terror Show do so , its fun. Cannot fault the staff or hotel , will definetely go again.

Really Really great hotel, rooms cleaned everyday with new towels, staff polite and friendly. There was always Activities going on in the hotel plus something for the kids. 3 Pools one of wich has to be the best pool ive seen in a hotel , was massive. One is indoor and there is a msaller one with slides for the kids aswell as a jacuzzi.
The food is out of this world and i am some what of a fussy eater , there is something for everyone. Show cooking and create your own pasta and omelete stations. Can't really comment on breakfast as i wasn't up in time lol.
The hotel is in an ideal location it is very close to all the main clubs and pubs but not too close that you can hear them at night. The hotel is 2 min walk to pirates, both waterparks and go karting (expensive, rent quads instead).
The hotel is a mix of famillies and young groups, dont let the groups but you off as the hotel security make sure noise is kept to a minimum, we never heard any rucuss in the early hours.
overall 10/10 hotel , has everything you could need.

  • Advice: Dont go karting , rip off 40 euros for 10mins, can rent quads or mo peds for a ful day for cheaper
  • Activities: BCM's , Waterpark

Me and my friend booked a weeks holiday to this hotel on the back of the excellent reviews read prior! It certainly lived up to its expectations, we are both male an there on a stag do to a party staying elsewhere but this hotel was perfect, from first arriving an walking into the very modernly and tastefully decorated reception we we both impressed, for the price we paid which was approx £370 for a week for everything we were really impressed, the rooms were smallish but very nice and clean, the pool area was imaculate and looked amazing at night, all the staff seemed very helpfull too. Although we were on a stag do it wouldnt be advised for a group of young males to go an take the Mickael in but if you want excellent food(which was very fresh and of vast choice!), value and accomodation then this is the place to stay as the 'strip' is only 5 mins away as is BCM square. It is ideal for families, couples and respectful groups! I would go back there tomorrow if i could. FANTASTIC HOLIDAY! Even the cleaners were ok, even after coming back as Smurfs an leaving a blue tint on the bathroom! Apologies for that!

Food was fresh tasty bar prices in hotel bar and pool bar were ok for a hotel and snack bar prices were competitive with outside snack bars ..
Will definetly go back close enough to beach and all the facillities short walk to strip but still quiet enough to not disturb youre sleep at night ..
Hotel had mixture og young and old families and groups of guys and girls even had some Glasgow Rangers Football club there but still had lovely mix th have relaxing time at the pool ...

The hotel was beautiful. Staff were friendly and it was in a great location- close to the beach and nightlife, but even so, it was a perfect place to stay if you want a peaceful sleep. The pool area was fantastic, always clean as were the rooms. Sheets and bath towels were changed every day. Food was always lovely, with a wide variety. At first, myself and my boyfriend were put in a room on the top floor but I cannot use lifts due to claustrophobia so we asked to be moved to a lower floor. We were moved to the third floor, no problem.
All in all, a fab holiday. Me and my boyfriend shall be returning next year!!!

My family and I have just returned from holiday staying at The Sol Guadalupe.
What a first rate hotel this is! Exceptionally clean , comfortable and friendly, from the cleaning staff to the receptionists, this hotel displayed the finest in customer service and quality. Each morning we watched from our room as the hotel staff cleaned the pool and surrounding area until it gleamed. The restaurant was a sight for sore eyes, with a stunning selection of fresh food from spanish paella, to english sausages, there was something for everyone. Our children are quite fussy eaters, but the dishes that were available suited them both.
Our room, although basic was extremely clean and we had fresh towels delivered every day.
My husband and I have already booked for next June!

We stayed here with our 13 year old son for 1 week, and were very impressed with the hotel from the very outset. The reception area was stunning to look at - reception staff extremely helpful and all spoke fluent english so we had no need to worry about our bad spanish! The pools and terraces were fantastic with lots of beds, tables & chairs - and it was thoroughly cleaned every day. Food in the restaurant wasn't always the best, but it was VERY acceptable with an extensive range of hot & cold dishes for all tastes- we were all extremely well-satisfied and well-fed! The kitchen & waiting staff staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The entertainment crew were absolutely fantastic - loads of genuine enthusiasm and talent. Bar prices were reasonable and service was generally quick & friendly. We were surprised at how well all the hotel staff spoke engish, and felt somewhat inferior at our very poor level of spanish.
The only negative was that our room was a bit cramped for 3, but as we spent so little time in it, it wasn't a real problem.
We would agree with other comments that the hotel is excellent and almost 4 * standard. The only improvements we could think of are:
# provision of towels for pool
# being able to put drinks on room tab (it was a bit of a pain having to keep paying for drinks, especially in the restaurant)
Overall, this hotel is excellent.
