nice family holiday
from Jayfish
we travelled to tenerife from the 21st march until the 4th of april. it was about an hours drive to the hotel from the airport. the hotel was really nice, we had a decent sized family room as there was myself, my mum and my 2 children, we were overlooking the pool and had a big balcony. the sun was on the balcony all of the day and wasn't too noisy even though its fairly close to the streets. there was only 1 night out of 14 that we could say the music was loud from the nearby disco's so no complaints there. we all enjoyed the activites through the day with agustin and maria, we even won some of the games and recieved diplomas! it was lovely and flat for walking along the sea front although i didn't manage too much because i had slippeda disc before leaving. i would definatley recommend cafe del paris for a cocktail, bit expensive but treat yourself. the food was nice but some nights the meat was tough but there was plenty of other options, my son tried his first mussel and shrimp. we also travelled to los cristianos for 2 days out, the 1st being a dolphin and whale spotting on a catamarran which was really good but i would advise you go with the smaller catamarrans as we were herded on like cattle. the 2nd was a trip under the sea on a yellow submarine which the kids loved and its something different to try. a diver went round the sub to each window to make sure you had seen the fish etc, the photos we took don't do it justice. we also went to loro parque which is amazing. because of my back problems i had an electric scooter which we hired from the park, which made it easier for me to travel all the way round. the highlight was the orcas, they were amazing, and because i has the scooter we were shown to the very fromt so we were literally 5 feet away from them, it was out of this world. ( we also spotted eileen from corrie in the crowd woohoo). so i would definatley recommend the hotel and nearby attractions and would definatley go back again. enjoyed by the whole family.
catalonia las vegas - a good, value for money hotel
from cimberll
Just returned from having spent a month at the Catalonia Las Vegas Hotel (Jan-Feb 2008). On arrival allocated a sea-view room which was fine other than the fact that this side of the hotel receives no sun & is consequently chilly. Requested a move to room overlooking pool which was granted with no fuss - what a difference ! - all day sun; but a drawback is the noise from the two discos situated opposite on a side road adjacent to hotel. The hotel itself had a 90% spanish occupancy ratio and so the nightly entertainment was geared to the majority taste. During the daytime various activities, petanque, lawn bowls, aerobics etc were organised by the excellent animation team led by the redoubtable Augustin who ensured all the different nationalities were treated equally. As to the catering: great effort has been made to please guests of all tastes, the result being that it would be difficult not to find a single acceptable dish both for breakfast or dinner. The best feature of the Las Vegas is the location - right on the pedestrianised sea front, close to Lido Martinez & town centre. A close scrutiny of the numerous side streets reveals a graveyard of failed british bars - understandable - competition is fierce.....One bar that has survived successfully is behind the Las Vegas - the Shamrock, its plush interior belies its dour approach. Recently acquired from an Austrian owner, the current host ensures a reasonable standard of entertainment without the impedimentia associated with the 'Brit abroad'. All in all, a pleasant hotel in a convivial resort......
Nice stay at catalonia

This hotel is right on the beautiful Lido at Puerto de la Cruz . i found the staff friendly and my room was nice. Try to get a room with a balcony overlooking Avenus de generalismo as the sun shines there morning to night. The only problems I had were 1) The TV had no English speaking channels, not even CNN or Sky news.2) A kettle would have been nice. 3) There was a lot of noise from the Discos outside, even with the doors/windows closed. Double glazing would be nice. Despite these small matters I would stay there again.

Just returned from staying at this hotel. Going on past experiences this hotel should be rated 3 star and not 4 star. The room we had was clean but small with a very small shared balcony Depending on which side of the hotel you are on, there is also a lot of noise from nearby all night disco's. Other than that the hotel is in a good location for shops, Lido etc. We would advise people to go for their evening meals after 7.30 as the food was more plentiful then and hotter. The hotel could do with an update in communal areas as sofa's etc are a bit worse for wear.

We stayed here for a week commencing 15th August 2007 and had a super time. The guests were mainly Spanish (which I think was a good sign) plus a few Italians and Germans with a few Brits arriving the day we left. The room we had was on the 10th floor but there were three lifts and even though the hotel was very full we never had to wait very long. The room had plenty space with views looking over the lido and back towards the town of Puerto De La Cruz and had a separate area with a single bed plus sofa for my nephew who was holidaying with us. There was a fridge and safe in the room (which was clean and tidy with comfortable bed) and the bathroom was also spacious with a bidet. The hairdryer was on the blink but as soon as we mentioned it at reception a new one had been installed by the evening. The hotel staff in the restaurant were very friendly particularly the entertainment team (thanks to Maria who was great fun and really motivational). We played ping pong, mini golf and bingo, I won a glass of champagne for winning a line and my partner got a certificate for winning the ping pong. The shows in the evening were great too. Food, what can I say, it was fantastic!!! We stayed on a half board basis and I put half a stone on in a week. They had everything imaginable to eat for breakfast and evening. I had bacon and eggs every morning and the meat, fish and salad selection in the evenings was remarkable. The lifeguard was very helpful finding my nephew some spare goggles, but the tiny little children’s pool was grubby and needs cleaning plus they could do with replacing the worn parasols and sun lounge mats. We didn’t have brilliant weather and the pool felt chilly when it was cloudy but it didn’t matter because there was so much else to do. The location is fantastic with easy access to everywhere and the train for loro parque sets of from the square at the side of the hotel. We hired a car but the only downside is finding a parking space. Nevertheless, we drove to El Tanque to do a camel ride and El Monasterio just a short drive (which I’m sure is very affordable by taxi) is also well worth a visit. I’ve been to Puerto De La Cruz twice now and still feel like I have not had enough time to enjoy or see everything there is to do. Only one slight complaint and that is I used the internet café but after having put my 1 euro in it was not working, I explained to the guy on reception straight away and he told me to come back on Monday morning after the weekend to get a refund. However, when I returned he seemed not to remember me and seemed put out that I had gone to collect my refund and told me to return later that day, I had to sign a piece of paper to say I had been refunded the 1 euro and what it was for, but was made to feel like a criminal. It was not the fact it was only 1 euro but the principal of the matter that counted to me. Nevertheless, I did not let this matter become all-consuming and had a brilliant time at the Catalonia Las Vegas and would have no hesitation returning in the future, in fact we didn’t want to leave at all.

Stayed at the Las Vegas for 2 weeks late Jan/early Feb 2005. Weather disappointing, hardly any sun, low cloud most of the time but around 64-68 degrees. Hotel food excellent, good variety and nicely prepared with restaurant overlooking the lower end of the Lido. Bedrooms clean and comfortable. However, no proper lounge, just large open plan reception area with a few uncomfortable sofas. Cold and very noisy especially at night. Most of the sofas were outside under parapets so unsuitable for wet weather. Bar area also cold and draughty, although the cabarets were excellent. The lido outside the hotel was blocked off for repairs, and we had workmen hammering and drilling from 7.30 a.m. until late afternoon every day. This could be heard from the hotel pool so not very relaxing. Hotel will be much better when repairs to the Lido finished and the sea view restored. Anyone thinking of staying there should check first that the work to the Lido has been finished. There was ballroom and sequence dancing there on four nights per week, and this was excellent and one of the reasons we stayed there. The dance hosts also covered another two hotels, so dancing was available six times a week in total. However, dancing only available for the winter season. To sum up, food and rooms good, lounge and bar area uncomfortable and noisy. Cabarets v.good. Staff helpful. Wouldn't recommend visit until work to Lido finished.

I would happily recommend this hotel. We went mid-February 2006, with two young children, and had a great time. The buffet breakfast and evening meal were excellent, and even the breakfast varied each day. We were on the third floor, with a view over the promenade and out to sea. The location is prime, three minutes into town but without the noise, no steps or hills, taxi rank and train to Loro Parque outside your door. It is right opposite one end of Lago Martianez (the man-made lakes). Staff all extremely friendly and helpful, and room housed all of us comfortably. Pool area clean and well-cared for, small kids playground next to it, just don't buy any drinks from the pool-bar, extremely expensive. Drinks with evening meal very reasonable though. Only moan was that the pool was too cold, even when we had a very warm day.
good but needs general renovation

i stayed hereduring one week, and also found that the location of the hotel was great. only a one minute walk to the lago marinez and two minutes to the closest beach. the hotel facilities were great: arcade, billiards, 3 mini golf, one shooting, a kind of tenis court, ping pong.... the problem was tthat most of these activbities, unless you do them with their `animation team` costt money. the tenis court thing was round 20 eur, thte biliadrs 1 eur ping pong was free. the rooms were quite good, but a couple of itams were mised: mini fridge, canal + or sat tv in every room... when i was there i did not see any gym nor indoor pool, and i found that the hotel was good but needed a general renovation. thats why i did not think it was a four star, but rather 3.5

I first stayed in the Las Vegas last September for a week and found it to be really good. So good I went back again in December for another week and going again in the next month or so for another week............however think I need to change hotels this time as the staff are getting to know me too well. The rooms we had on both occasion looked out towards the Lido. The food in the hotel was really good and there was plenty of variety every night from pasta, sirloin steaks and fish being cooked in front of you when you asked and also a buffet if that wasn't enough for you which included many spanish dishes. The staff were so friendly and did their best to please. The only downside was the lifts that took you too your floor......they were tiny and didn't have any air conditioning so the heat almost killed you if you were travelling to the 12th floor.
I am a resident in Puerto de la cruz and like to go and see the shows there on in particular and also BUY A FEW DRINKS . Its a great room and got lots of potential going for it .but the bar itself is so boring there is a dreadful fluorescent strip light which gives a very... more
