" Barcelo Santiago, Tenerife "

We had a very pleasant week in Tenerife, the overall review for our holiday is good, however, with all holidays, there are good points and bad points.
Good points:
The rooms were very clean, excellent maid service, great views.
Hotel, very clean, well maintained, good facilities
Spa, very good, and relaxing well worth the 10 euros each, two of our party treated themselves to a massage at 64 euros, which they both thoroughly enjoyed.
Food, very good, loads of choice everyday at the buffet style restaurant and made to a high standard.
Pool area very good, plenty of room for everyone, with a heated pool, it's only the small pool that's heated, but that's big enough at the time of year we went.
Bad points:
Due to the time of year, it did feel like we were on a saga holiday, the beds in the rooms were too hard, resulting with all people in our party complaining of back pain by the end of the holiday.
At one point or another all of our party came down with a sickness and diahorrea bug, after going to reception and explaining, the staff were to quick to fob us off and showed no sympathy, and were quite rude, especially as my wife wanted some room service as she was ill and they refused.
Just a final note, for anyone going here, don't forget all inclusive ends at 11pm, so don't forget to order a few extra drinks at 10.50pm.
All in all, a very good holiday, with just a couple of niggly complaints. We would consider going back here again (if the beds were softer!)

" A waste of money "

This was the holiday I had been waiting for through all the years when I could only afford caravan parks in the UK.
I wanted to swim and sunbathe in the early morning and late afternoon, I had no wish to fry myself all day long.
I was prevented from doing this by the people who prowled the sun terraces from 6am waiting for the sunbeds to be unlocked at 8am. Their towels went down, and all were taken.
I spent my holiday sitting in a hard plastic chair on my balcony reading a book.
I might as well have stayed at home.
Very disappointing.

Advice: If you want to fight for the right to enjoy the facilities, fair enough. If not, avoid this place.

" Lovely but... "

The location is great with views to Los Gigantes & Sunsets over La Gomera. It is right on the sea front with a promenade running along around the front. the pools are elevated, seemingly on the roof (but not quite).
The food was very good, the hotel in general was very acceptable but we did not enjoy the entertainments.
Their biggest fault for us was 2 things, which we were not advised of when booking.-
1- One of the two swimming pools out of action & under repair.
2- The spa was closed for refurbishment.
Street parking was not easy.
There are a few bars/restaurants around the hotel, none looked busy.
Nice sea front walking available in each direction to Los Gigantes or Puerto Santiago & Playa Arena, which are all pleasant places, with black beaches. The later being the best & most popular.
All these places were very quite especially on an evening.
.

Advice: Pleasant but quite

" We had been before and enjoyed it... "

We had been before and enjoyed it very much. Great location, good food, etc.
But this year our suite was invaded with cockroaches on 5 seperate nights. It made getting up in the night a hunting expedition which was not much fun.
I suppose you can expect these beasts to turn up when it gets warmer .... but the "we could not care less" attitude of the reception staff amazed me.
They just said we should expect it ...(although I think the leaky shower tray and general dampness in the bathroom did not help) ...and the best they could do was give us a can of fly spray.
It may be true that bugs are something you have to accept here ...but we expected more concern and action from a 4 star hotel..... we will not be returning.

" We spent the whole of February at... "

We spent the whole of February at this hotel having selected it based on the many positive reviews. The location is spectacular, the staff could not have been more friendly and the service was excellent. On arrival we were allocated a ground floor room which was at the side of the building out of the sun. We asked to change to a sunnier room and even though the hotel was full they managed to find us a suitable room the following day. Food was typical for an international buffet but reasonably varied. There is the option of eating on the terrace rather than in-doors. All inclusive was extremely good value for money and we did not have any difficulty getting served even though we opted for cards rather than wristbands. The area around the pools is very large with lots of sunbeds and space for everyone. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we intend to return next year.

" We went for 10 days all inclusive to... "

We went for 10 days all inclusive to the Barcelo Santiago.

First impressions - Greeted with champagne on arrival, porter took cases to our room, and receptionist spoke good English.

Good points:
We did not arrive until 11pm but they reserved a meal for us upstairs in the restaurant.

Room’s very very nice, beautiful sea view and cliffs of Los Gigantes.

Food was very nice, good variety and plenty of it.

Nice location, live music every night at local bars

Weather is hot!

Bad points:
All inclusive should mean all inclusive - it finishes at 11 O clock you then have to pay for drinks.

You get a wrist band for all inclusive DON’T BOTHER get a card! The bartenders seem to take preference to people who are not all inclusive cause they are paying cash! All inclusive people tend to get served last!

The room smelt terrible every morning of dirty drains, not pleasant and was the only real off putting thing about the hotel in general.

Would stay again, you have to go all inclusive as its still so much cheaper, just watch out for the waiters delaying coming to you! They always say (you pay cash?) No all inclusive (they don’t like it) ha-ha.

" What a place! Booked the holiday with... "

What a place! Booked the holiday with Sunshine and got the transfers through Resort Hoppa and everything went smoothly!

Arrived at Barceló and from the outside it looks beautiful but go inside and it looks even better! Beautiful rooms, clean towels everyday and the sun terrace is gorgeous as well!

Food and drink were plentiful, varied, and very well presented. The restaurants are fantastic as are the staff.

In all a totally enjoyable honeymoon and a great holiday experience through Sunshine. I definitely recommend them wholeheartedly!

" I have been to this hotel 2 years ago... "

I have been to this hotel 2 years ago with my family! It was amazing then and is certainly incredible now!

There is now 3 gorgeous pools and friendly faces! The reps were lovely and the views from my room were stunning! I’m 16 and found Tenerife had a lot to offer! If you are considering the Barcelo, I would 100% recommend all inclusive!

We drank cocktails endlessly and wine of course! Great entertainment and an awesome spa!

I’m booking for next year!

" Very pleasant, helpful staff.... "

Very pleasant, helpful staff. Excellent food with good service and long serving hours, comfortable hotel.

Could not use the pool because all the seats had been "reserved" with towels very early in the morning, even late at night there were towels on chairs.

Sky TV but only Sky News and BBC World News in English.

Would definitely go again though.

" Great Christmas holiday. I have to... "

Great Christmas holiday. I have to say that this was a most enjoyable holiday.

Our room was in good decorative order and was kept very clean by the staff. We were on the lower floors and had a wonderful sea view, watching the dolphins on most days from our balcony.

The food was plentiful and of a very high standard, with a good variation which would suit most tastes.

The pool area was very good with one of the three pools heated. There were more than enough sun beds to go round even when the hotel was full.

Entertainment throughout the day and in the evening was very good and was provided by a very friendly team.

The area that the hotel is situated is very quite and would not be lively enough for younger people, but for people of our age (50 plus) was ideal, with a short hilly walk to Playa la Arena in the daytime for the beach or Los Gigantes for a drink in the evening, in one of the many bars.

All in all highly recommended.

" We have recently returned from yet... "

We have recently returned from yet another fantastic holiday at the Barceló Santiago.

I'm losing count but I think this was our 6th visit in as many years. We upgraded to the new superior rooms (which now have mirrors), they were lovely.

The weather, the food but especially the entertainment team make this hotel very special. They are excellent with young and old and are equally enthusiastic when dancing to the "Hokey Cokey" with the kids as they are doing the Waltz.

Our two year old daughter thought it was amazing and loved the attention she got from all of them.

We will definitely be going back again, soon I hope!!

" We have just returned from a fabulous... "

We have just returned from a fabulous week away at the Barcelo Santiago. We couldn't fault this hotel, from start to end of our holiday.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful and nothing was a problem for them. The room was kept very clean by a friendly maid and the youthful Entertainment Team were brilliant, so hard working and genuinely caring, always making you feel special and smiling.

We had great fun at "aqua gym" and were blessed with sunshine and great weather...we didn't want to leave!

The food was excellent too with some nights having particular themes such as Mexican and Spanish. There was plenty of choice and the hotel catered for all tastes so even if you are a fussy eater there will be something for you.

We enjoyed the evening entertainment at the hotel's "Teide Theatre". 'African Footprints' was great as were the efforts of the brilliant entertainment team - 'Grease' and 'Abracadabra'.

The sunbathing and pool area of the hotel are amazing, so serene with views out to sea as well as of the Los Gigantes cliffs (also visible from the panoramic dining room).

Anyway, we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. We stayed in Room 512 with an excellent sea view.

We booked a couple of weeks before departure with First Choice. They are ok I guess. The plane was cramped and the Reps weren't that great but it was the hotel and it's staff that made the holiday for us.

" Been to the Barcelo now for 6 years,... "

Been to the Barcelo now for 6 years, 7th visit this year in October again.

This hotel is brilliant, the staff are friendly and they remember us every year, the rooms are spacious and we have 2 children.

The food is varied and great choice, even the kids love it.

It's my birthday every year while I'm there and they put a cake and champagne in my room, lovely touch. On arrival we get a bottle of champagne and chocolate fruits, scrumptious. They really know how to treat their guests.

This is a real family hotel, the kids are in a safe environment. My rating for it is over 10 really... Keep up the good work Barcelo, and see you in 6 weeks... and counting.

" This was an excellent hotel, staff... "

This was an excellent hotel, staff friendly & helpful, well done to them all. Hotel closing down April/May06 for total refurbishment, some bits 'tired', but the new style show room was amazing, but rooms are spacious with all facilities & large balconies, ours all had amazing views out to sea or across to Los Gigantes!

Cleanliness was a high standard & don't change towels every day unless you ask due to helping the environment. Food was scrumptious, plenty of variety, although Veggie dishes could be improved slightly, I am not a Veggie but do love all types of cuisine.

People in our party ranging from 42 to 60, all agreed well worth a visit for a chill out holiday from work!

" Slightly disappointing compared to... "

Slightly disappointing compared to other Barcelo hotels. Entertainments staff spoke very little English. Staff running children's club spoke only Italian most days - leaving the Spanish, English and other children not knowing what was happening.

Entertainment finished at 11:00 and everyone sat around the bar drinking coffee. Speaking to fellow holiday makers, this was not how the hotel had been previously.

Location was fantastic, lovely views of the cliffs and sea. Food was top class, as expected from Barcelo. Restaurant and reception staff first class. Hotel kept spotlessly clean
