Submitted By: Mrs L H Lewisentertainment was ok although the childrens entertainment was aimed at german guests only my children felt very left out!approx 95 % of the hotel guests were of german origin and we did feel a little intimidated as none of this was mentioned when we booked our holiday.the surrounding areas were quite poor very hilly and hardly any shops,or places we were able to go suitable for chidren.although there was a taxi office directly opposite the hotel which was good.overall we did enjoy but wouldnt recommend it to british people with children .

Submitted By: Miss L HolmesGreat big apartments, entertainment great -could hardly notice - all very tranquil and relaxed, if you didn’t want to join in there was no pressure. Kids entertainment very separate so no noise from that either.
Food was fantastic selection and again all the staff very attentive and lovely outside eating area.
Only bit of advice was take earplugs as there is a noisy cockerel if you are in block D but not a problem!
Really had a fantastic holiday and hope they keep up the good work as would definitely go back.

Submitted By: Mrs Y WilsonMaintenance in the pool, and around was kept spotless, even if a few leaves had blown in the night before. 9/10.
Plenty of sunbeds to choose from didn’t need to reserve any with towels.
We were outnumbered by other European languages in the complex, but were welcomed by the hotel staff that could speak English, and were made to feel welcome. By other Europeans, who talked to us very friendly atmosphere. 9/10.
Accommodation was very basic, but cleaned most days. 6/10.
All inclusive food, restaurant food was average, found food a bit bland at times, missing a few flavours compared to other all inclusive that we have encountered in Majorca. 5/10.
Drinks at bar no problem, they have local beers on tap, sangria, and you can help yourself to gin, rum, brandy whisky’s etc bottles are left on the bar - self service.
There are bottles of ice cold water in fridges you can help yourself too, to take back to accommodation at the bar at pool area.7/10.
Walked to Los Gigants some days, got a titsa bus back for three of us .3 Euros 75 cents.
Be warned that to get a taxi from the airport is £54.00 each way. We paid £16 each though tour operator.

Submitted By: Mr Bf FreeneyTo start the hotel is predominantly Spanish with a smattering of Germans, Italians a few English and quite a lot of Scottish guests. I was surprised as an Irishman to discover that we were the only Irish in the entire resort.
The Varadero is a very clean and well maintained hotel. Apartments, whilst being quite old fashioned, are spacious and well kept. Two adults and 2 Children will fit comfortably.
I enjoyed being there as an all inclusive guest, as it removed final bill settlement or the curse of carrying money. The bar, and the snacks were all self service which was very handy. The only negative of going all inclusive is feeling that you must eat there as you have prepaid. Although the food is well presented, and varied there is one problem. The chefs have not heard about producing food with flavour. It is ,as one previous reviewer said, value food and not restaurant quality. We went out to a Restaurant on 5 of the10 nights we were there, just so we could eat a meal that actually tasted as it was supposed to. If any of the Barcelo Management read this review I suggest that you send your staff to cookery school.
In general the staff were very helpful. If you go, look out for a waitress called Rosie. She is barking mad but great fun. Carlos V is a large barman with a breathtaking incompetence. Avoid ordering a cocktail from him as he is absolutely inept.
There is an Argentinian restaurant down town called the Patagonia. It produces food of amazing quality. Their prawns in garlic are the best I have ever eaten and their Fillet steaks are quite amazing. Do not be put off by their higher than usual prices. The quality is worth it. Tell them the Irishman and his wife recommended them.
If you after nightlife the hotel is not for you. On the dot of 23.00 the all inclusive bar closes and you start to pay for your drinks. The music goes off and all the other Europeans go to bed, leaving the Scots, Irish and English to enjoy each others company. Everything has closed down by 12,30. It is the quietest hotel complex I have ever stayed in and it was great.
The sunbed problem really is a pain. As the hotel is always full if you do not put towels on your bed before 6.30 then you do not have one. The choice, moral or otherwise, is up to you.
Overall this hotel does what it says on the tin. In my opinion it gives good value and is well situated in la arena. If you are not fully mobile it is not for you as the entire town is up and down hills. Taxis are freely available and only cost 4 Euro to go downtown.

Submitted By: onion1The resort itself is very small and mostly caters for families and couples. The rooms and ground of this complex were spotless. Would I go back? Yes, without hesitation!
This is not the resort for you if you are into wild nightlife but then you can always get a taxi to playa de los Americas, which is about 30 km away.
I would recommend this holiday for relaxation, sightseeing (you can walk to los Gigantes about 2 km), and for beach lovers. The scenery in Tenerife is spectacular and I would recommend Mt. Teide (highest mountain in Spain), day trip to la Gomera and the cliffs at los Gigantes....you won't be disappointed.

Submitted By: Mr JV JasonMy assessment of Vardero Barcelo is pretty much what non-Brits have said. The property is a 4 star place masquerading as a 3 star establishment.
Beautiful, well kept subtropical gardening, 3 striking pools.
The first of impression of our rooms was that, Wow! Tasteful, well-kept, spacious and clean.
The hotel food is o.k., plentiful, lots and lots of it, a real trough for the pig-out lot. But, of course where plenty is the first word...the last word is, well, it's not what you'd expect from a restaurant.
The breakfast is huge, fruits, cereals, eggs and bacon. Yes, beans (you Brits!), but sorry no 'mushy peas'. A lot for little, but not really restaurant class food, more like...a lot for a little.
The property is large. We had a rental car the whole time and it was about 300 meters from our room to our car...only one entrance...the exigencies of Spanish anti-thievery security, so heaven help us if we forgot something important in the room. Having said that, the walk through the gardens and pools always reminded us that we were on holiday.
The walk to the beach is up and down, not bad, about 700 meters, just under 1/2 a mile.
The beach is one of the nicest on the island, if you like smallish, not over-crowded beaches.
The location in general is at the end of the road. Ideal if you have a car, but it will be a long walk to most shops and restaurants, and Los Gigantes (both cliffs and resort) are visible, but a trek.
Small things for our British cousins to dwell on. No kettle. (Well, you'll just have to learn to boil your billy in pot like the rest of the world) The range of dishes, pots, etc was adequate, but not matching or complete.
There was a real oven for once though! One of the burners on the cooker was slow as mountains, the other was dead. We didn't need it though, but we did hear from other guests that the hotel folk were really nice and fix what they could ASAP, providing you speak slowly, carefully and in a friendly manner. Act like a demanding sod and generally the Spanish will respond in kind. Make nice and they are ready to serve.
Internet services, a must for Scandinavians, were two, albeit fast coin operated computers in the lobby. One Euro for about 8 minutes. For us exorbitant. Even the meanest of our hotels have net hook-ups in the rooms for free.
Cleaning and change of linen...okay, but don't leave you towels on the floor gang, you'll have to use them for a few days.
Please grow-up and get over this 'reserving' your sun-beds by the pool. If you are not there, you ARE NOT THERE.
There are rules 'forbidding' this practice. If there are empty places, just neatly move and stack the reserver's goods and put them someplace considerate. Shazam! You have your sun-bed.
The week preceding Xmas was warm and lovely! Try to choose your sunning spots judiciously, observing the sun's path. The lowest pool gets sun late into the afternoon, where are the higher pools get shady around 5-ish.
We used the room water for cooking and coffee and bottled water for drinking only. Some folk believe that one will invariably succumb to the Black Death if you cook with the tap water. WE survived without any ill effects.
For shopping, get down to Los Americas and the Safari Centre. More like Los Vegas than Europe. Posh, posh, posh. Don't look for bargains as much a really nice goods, fairly priced for the most part.
Of course the capital has real Spanish high street shopping. A great outing, but remember the fiesta times, shops close and they roll up the pavement.
If you are looking for electronics ask the young people at reception. They can help steer you away from the Sub-continent mafia shops, you know what I mean. Always overpriced, never the best buy.
Try to peruse the German language reviews of Tenerife, those lovely Krauts go EVERYWHERE and know where all the best of everything is.

Submitted By: campbell21You have plenty of pools to choose from, as my two children found out and loved.
The restaurant was clean with plenty of choice and polite staff.
The entertainment was limited but OK for my children who are 2 & 8 years old.
The only down side to this hotel is the resort, it is so hilly. So making it no good for a pram or people who find it hard to get about. The resort is pretty and has no timeshare reps like other resorts in Tenerife.

Submitted By: campbell21There are plenty of pools and the food was great. My two children loved the hotel kids club and the hotel entertainment. They are 8 and 2.
The hotel room was clean and tidy.
The resort is very pretty but the only draw back was that it is very, very hilly so it makes it difficult for prams and people who cannot get about very well.
I would say that this resort is a little quiet if you are looking for bars and clubs, but it is great for families and people looking for a slower holiday.
Even better we did not see one timeshare salesperson.

Submitted By: Mrs M HumphriesThe rooms were simple but acceptable. There were a reasonable lot of options in the buffet but the steak house wasn’t all good. The two pools were fine and great for a swim. The staff where fantastic they were always trying there best to give you the full Caribbean holiday. The entertainment was a delight for the kids they loved it. The beach was beautiful and had great entertainment through out the day.
The beach bar was amazing. Not the best for snorkeling but you could walk up the beach and find a place for snorkeling to see some fish. One the first week we went on a catamaran trip which took us to sousoa a place which is famous in Dominican Republic for snorkeling it was worth paying for and it was a good entertainment on the boat. The staff onboard where extremely friendly and always making sure you where ok. If you left the hotel there was a big shopping centre to you right 3 or 4 mins walk and you could easily access shops and restaurants.
The best part was if you weren’t all good for the hotel food the shopping centre had a pizza hut which the kids loved. I would recommend this hotel for families with children all ages as it was great for teenage kids and toddlers. I would highly recommend this hotel and it was a delight to stay there! hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

We had a TV which had programmes in several languages but unfortunately not in English. Our rep tried to rectify this but was told it was to do with the sat dish and that some rooms did not receive English channels, ours being one of them. As we were in the minority it would have been nice to have been put in a room with Sky News!
The food was reasonable with a few choices, although I had the salads most of the time. There was plenty of it and if you wanted to be a pig you could! We weren't so happy about the drinks as it was all self service. Not so bad in the restaurant and pool bar but at night it would have been nicer to have been waited on. My husband tried twice to get me a cocktail,( which he had to pay for as it was not local drink) and each time he was told it was too late and given a free juice with alcohol and a straw!! We never did find out what this meant! Other people seemed to have 'proper' cocktails. Anyway it was all a bit of a free for all in the evening, which was a shame. On the plus side there was virtually any drink you could imagine on the bar, even the coffee, chocolate etc was rhere from a machine.
We walked to the beach on 3 days and found that it was the best beach on the island and very clean. However, the tide is very strong - not for the fainthearted! It was funny seeing people coming out of the sea looking like an old fashioned coleman. It is hilly in this area but if you take it easy it shouldn't be a problem. We walked to Los Gigantes one day which was a pleasant walk with good views of the area. A bus to Los Christianos etc cost under 8 Euros each, each way but be warned it takes about an hour and a half as it calls at all the villages and resorts along the way. On the rep's recommendation we took a half day trip to Teide rather than a full day excursion. She warned us that because we were so far away from the main areas we would be picked up at 7.15am before going on to the other resorts. She was right it took nearly 2 hours before the trip got underway and we didn't stop till 11.30 at the cable car station. We got back at 2.00pm which was a long half day, but also worth it to see Teide up close.
On the whole we enjoyed our week but preferred our stay in the Barcelo Lanzarote, which was a 4* and miles better for food and service. I don't think we would return to this Hotel or this area of Tenerife.
