We have just come back from a weeks stay at the Tamaimo Tropical. We are a family of 4 and we all had a great time. The resort is quiet and hilly but there is a supermarket a few minutes walk away and a souvenir shop with lilo's etc. Great for the morning paper and crisps etc. Great if you have forgotten any toiletries or other essentials. There is a small but adequate shopping centre up 119 steps just outside the main entrance (yes we counted them) great way to exercise at the end of a days all inclusive over indulgence! Choice of souvenirs, electronic goods, leather goods and a perfumery. The surrounding area is very scenic, nice places to take pictures and the beach if you like volcanic sand! We found the food to be good, a variety of meat, fish and pasta. Breakfast had particulary nice sausages and always a choice of scrambled or fried eggs. Nicer than the horrible hot dog ones we have experienced in other places. The bar/waiting staff were helpful, polite and good with my children - teaching a bit of spanish along the way. The entertainment team were great, encouraging but not too pushy. The evening entertainment was ok, we had fun at the karaoke, bingo and quiz nights. The restaurant was efficient given that the hotel was very busy. Pool snacks were a hit or miss - soggy chips but after a good breakfast, lunch and evening meal we didn't really need it. Nice ice cream though. Choice of 2 pool areas, plenty sunbeds and lifeguard at the poolside all day. Some "reserving" of sunbeds the night before being overlooked by staff except on a Monday night when they were removed and the beds locked up to enable an extensive clean. Every other day the pool area was hosed down. We managed to get a sunbed and a shade every day from about 8 o clock but I am an early riser anyway so it wasn't a problem. There are plenty of naturally shaded areas at both pools anyway. Lovely coffee from a machine or make it yourself at the bar - hot milk etc provided on request. Nice cake after 4pm on request at the bar each afternoon. Gained 1 stone in weight in 1 week and never ate outwith the hotel once. We did book one meal at the Pizza restaurant which is an all inclusive option but preferred the main resaurant so only did it the once. The rooms and general decor was basic but it is only a 3 star hotel. We were happy with the general cleanliness and we frequently saw staff spraying insecticide within the complex, a thing we have never seen before so at least effort was being make trying to keep the ususal pests at bay. Free wifi in reception accessable via a code provided on request. Great if your kids are missing their facebook etc. We found the whole holiday great value for money and fairly typical of all inclusive. We are not particularly hard to please. Don't let the bad reviews put you off - a holiday is what you make it!

booked 1 week all inclusive wanted to go home within the hour.Room not too bad could be cleaner. The food was absolutely dreadful - basic, repetative, thoroughly overcooked, dry, tasteless and cold. The rice was always dry and stuck together in clumps. The vegetables were of the frozen variety and tasted of nothing but water. I put a potato in my mouth, it was so overcooked it was full of water. There was never any gravy or sauce. The salad bar was also very basic. The only thing that was edible was the chips (cold)but you cant live on chips alone. Dining out was the only option which defeats an all inclusive holiday. Now the drinks - I understand drinks being served in plastic cups by the pool for health and safety reasons but I would have liked my gin and tonic in a glass while sitting in the bar at night. The entertainment at night left a lot to be desired and again we found ourselves going out in the evening with several other guests we had met up with for decent entertainment and drinks again this defeats the all inclusive option. There were other little things that were annoying too many to mention but a couple were that you had to pay to use the jacuzzi next to the pool and we had to pay a 10euro deposit for the tv remote! If you do fancy going to this hotel go self catering.

I read the reviews on this hotel AFTER we had just got back from the travel agents and booked to stay here for a fortnight... my stomach turned over and I wondered what horrors we had let ourselves in for and wanted to cancel. We didn't, and thank god!
We had 2 weeks of chilling around the pool, went on a couple of excurions, went out on a pirate ship whale watching trip from Los Gigantes (which is a 15-20 minute pleasant walk away) and the kids made loads of friends and played pool, water polo, sang on the Kari-oke and generally had a brilliant time.
We (I) quickly learned to get up and go and get the sun loungers early in the morning before breakfast and then we were set for the day. Quite frankly, we normally wake up at 5.30am anyway so hopping out of bed to prepare for a relaxing day wasn't a big deal.
The food was great and if you can't find anything you like then you must be a pretty fussy eater! Everything was hot and replaced frequently by the chefs. The waiting staff were friendly although very busy. We were provided with packed lunches and breakfasts for our excursions which was great and saved us having to spend money while we were out.
The room was clean and was cleaned daily except Sundays. Fresh towels, loo rolls, beds made etc etc.
When we arrived there was no bed in the room for one of my children (only twin beds and a sofa bed - boy and girl aged 12 + 10 + us) so we spoke to reception and we had another bed brought to the room before bedtime :-)
All round a fantastic time and would go back again in a heartbeat!

Arrived at the Tamaimo Tropical around midnight no problems with transport between airport and hotel and after a wait was finally acknowledged by the receptionist and was given keys to our room, the room on the third floor, after lugging the cases up 3 flights of stairs found the room on initial inspection was clean and spacious, sperate bedrooms, bathroom, kitchnette and living area. On closer inspection the next day we found that there was food left in the kitchen cupboards from the previous occupants and that half the plugs were damaged. Also found out later on that the padlock to the safe deposit box in the room fitted any safe deposit box within the complex. A good night sleeps was the order of the day, no such luck, first we heard people arguing, then furniture being scraped along the tiled floor, then as the bedroom was at the front of the complex, coaches, dustcarts and the occassional police siren, so a rather interupted sleep, still never mind it was only the first night, got to get better!.
The next day decied to explore and found our way by mistake to the dinning area where breakfast was being served, the usual continental stuff plus cooked english, so armed with a cup of tea and a plate of really greasy bacon, sausages, fried eggs that had dried up, grilled tomatoes we sat down and as i went to get a bread roll, noticed insects climbing all over the wall, they were small and white, then realised that they were "living" on the bread that was piled up against the wall, no more rolls for me. Finally after breakfast went to find the pool but we ended up going to the other pool on site, found a sun bed and there we spent the day.
Apart from the toilets in the rooms, around the complex was only 2 sets of loos, one situated in the middle of both pools and one set near the dinning area, the ones by the pool were awful, the smell and the state of them at the end of the morning was unbearable, so I ended up going back to the room to use the facilities.
Lunch time, basic food, pasta, fish (didn't tell us what type it was) meat, one selection of vegetables, and always chips on the menu, there was also salad available, and this was the same every day for lunch and dinner, breakfast was the same every day no variety and the quality of the food was poor, even when a new tray was put out it was dry/overcooked and inedible. Although a lot of people like us were all inclusive they seemd to go out for meals/ drinks and entertainment, to me that says a lot for the place. There was no tea or coffee available during lunch or dinner, the only place to get a drink was at the bars allocated around each pool, served in plastic cups of course and as always a cue.
During the week stay noticed a lot of cockroaches around the place, ok you expect it due to the heat but somehow it made the place feel dirty.
It took a further 4 days before our towels and bedding was changed and beware there is no maid service on sundays.
Night time was awful, our apartment overlooked the smaller pool and underneath us was the pool bar that was open during the day, in the opposite corner there was a room with a bar that held the entertainment, people were walking around pool area and using both bars as the queues were long, there was seating outside both bar areas but not enough for the amount of people there so they ended up sitting on the sun loungers around the pool, that's if they wern't padlocked, it is an accident waiting to happen as drink and swimming pools don't mix.
We didn't see our rep at all during the holiday but am grateful to Craig another companies rep for his help and assistance.
Although there was enough sun loungers available, more sun shades are needed as the heat was unbearable some days and without them you might get sunstroke.
As our flight home was a late night flight 11pm, i asked reception on the 2nd day if we could keep our room on until 6 pm (check out is before midday) was told to come back on our last morning to see availability, so i asked reception on our 2nd to last day if we could keep our room was again told to come back. Now surely they know whose coming in and what rooms have been allocated, but no see reception the next day, which we did and was told that we could have another room this time on the 5th floor, so we packed walked down 3 flights of stair to a lift this time which took us to the 5th floor of course we had to pay for the room but it was better than leaving our suitcases in a small unlocked room in the reception area and being allocated 30 minutes in a curtisy room to shower and change.
Overall the area is very scenic and beutiful. If it wasn't through the people that we met i doubt if i would have lasted the week. Although the staff did their best it wasn't enough. As most of the time i felt on edge waiting for something to happen as there were fights for the first 4 nights i was there not a good start to a place that had elderly couples/families/young couples staying there. I wouldn't recommend this place at all would rather live in a tent for a week than go back.
- Advice: better variety of food / make one big area away from the pools for bar/entertainment

Now, please don't let my negative title sway you, I have to say the hotel was ok, a bit basic but clean and in general the staff were polite and helpful.
My issue lies with the food, hence the title of "Poor First Experience of All Inclusive". As the the title states this was my first time as an all inclusive customer and probably my last. The breakfast aside, the food was not only of a very poor standard, but, also a limited selection. I holidayed here with my 10 year old son, now neither of us are particularly fussy eaters, however after the 3rd day the limited selection (none for children, there is only so many times you can eat chips before you get sick of them) and the poor quality of the food at both lunch and evening times drove us to eat out for the rest of our week here. The positive of this is there are a few nice little eateries nearby which we discovered, the negative, I had paid for All Inclusive (AI) and ended up spending another £250 for dining out which I hadn't budgeted for.
I wasn't over impressed with the small plastic glasses (cups) the free drinks came in with the AI package these were the sort you get a from a tea/coffee vending machine and were used for all drinks, soft, beer, shorts and cocktails. Once you got an ice-cube in there, there was barely enough room for a mouthfull of liquid, consequently it meant you were up and down frequently as they would only serve 2 drinks at a time, although dependent on the bartender some would give you more.
This all sounds a bit negative, but to be honest, apart from the food and the dodgey plastice glasses, we had a great time. I had read all of the horror stories about cockroaches in the hotel before I went and never saw one the whole time we were there.
This is a great resort for families all I would suggest for this hotel is stay away from AI, if you decide to go go B&B or Self Catering, there are plenty of places to eat next to the hotel, Nino's sirloin steaks are second to none. Eating and drinking are pretty cheap too.
- Advice: Don't go all inclusive, eat at the local restruants they are much better than the hotel.

We stayed at the Tamaimo Tropical in Aug 11, the first 2 days we found cockroaches in our room, i reported it at reception and they said they wont harm you, then they gave us a can of fly spray. I didnt see any more after that, but made sure we all left our lights on. The food wasnt up too much, all we ate was chips pasta or rice with no sauce, it was like being on Im a celebrity, We would never stay there again even if it was free. The bar was a joke you got a small plastic cup and they didnt even bother filling that, and they wasnt very friendly. If you want a sun lounger then you have to be up at 6.30am and by the time you get to them people have took them all up and thrown their towels on them, then just gone back to bed, we never got a lounger once in 11 days, we went to the beach in the day, it wasnt like a cattle market as the pool was.

HI just thought i might had my review of this hotel amazing summed up in one word.We stayed in the tamaimo april last year and are due to go back in 2 weeks time and cannt wait infact we are counting the days, the food had a very wide choice plenty of fresh salads, meat, cheeses, there was always something for everyone i would say and i am a very fussy eater ,the staff went out of there way to help you which was lovely ,the entertainment was brilliant too especially the abba night everybody was boogieing ,the bingo wasnt too bad but did get boreing he took too long calling the numbers and sometimes you just couldnt understand him.The only downfall to this place is its location its a bit remote unless you are feeling a bit energetic and fancy walking up the dreaded steps that face the hotel 200 in total i am told but never counted them im not that sad just wanted to get too the top why i still could breath. There is a few little gift shops near by and a few bars with sky sports one for the husbands also a volcano to the left of the property other than that and a large supermarket facing theres not much else ,so if you are looking to recharge your batteries this is the place the best nights sleep i have had in years .

Myself and my partner booked a last minute week here in the 1st week in Dec. After reading reviews we weren't looking forward to staying here but it was lovely. The room is very spacious and air conditioned (no extra cost) we had a one bedroomed apartment and stayed self catering so can't comment on the food but other people there had said it was fine and buffet style so what you don't like you don't eat!
Fantastic bath and powerful shower with unlimited hot water, we asked for a balcony overlooking the pool which we got. There are two sets of pools to choose from both lovely. If I did go again I would ask for a double bed as we like a cuddle and this wasn't that comfy in the twin beds. We had to ask for a kettle and a sharp knife but were provided with these within ten minutes of asking. TV Remote is provided for a deposit of 10E (If you have kiddies that like TV there aren't really any English speaking channels except the news). You are in a fab location for both los gigantes, (out the front door to the left, the natural pool on the walk there is lovely) and playa de arena (out the door and either up the stairs opposite or along the beach walk, down the ramp beside the hippo supermarket) with lots of shops/food places and a fair nice black sand beach. There is a couple of supermarkets and a selection of restaurants literally 20 steps away dealing with various tastes and pockets. We loved it and it was perfect for a relaxing romantic break. If you're after a mad week with music all night this is probably not the best for you. if you fancy going further afar the buses run regularly. We had a great week and wouldn't hesitate to return. The maids clean everyday, I haven't a clue why people are complaining about the cleanliness and I didn't see one cockroach the whole time I was here. Sometimes the pool bar does get a bit noisy but this didn't bother us as we're sound sleepers. Lots of advice and a map of the area on the 1st day from the lovely helpful reception staff.
