What can I say! Me 20 and my boyfriend 23, booked a 2 week holiday at the Tamaimo Tropical in which we were told they had 'good night life' 'quite lively' 'close to all bars and clubs'.
Yeah like one club - Havana - which there were no signs to show you how to get up there, so didn’t bother trying.
Food was outrageous. Our apartment number 138 was FULL of cockroach’s even ones that FLY, we had to eventually buy some spray from the EXPENSIVE supermarket round the corner. At 6AM all you could hear was the dropping of cans from the vending machines.
During the 2nd week of our fantastic holiday (ha-ha) scaffolding was put up in front of our 'pool view room' - some view that was. The 118 steps had loads of lizards, so watch your feet they aren’t even scared oh and watch your feet at night the cockroaches run wild at them in the dark.
When we couldn’t be bothered paying taxi fair to get us some entertainment, we went round to route 66 which was kind of OK when the decent bands were on not.
I would recommend taking the hour and half journey on the bus to Las Americas if your young go at night, its so much better than Los Gigantes they have more than one club, honest.
I can honestly say we wont be going back to Los Gigantes, not until we are like 90, even then it mite still be boring - enjoy your holiday.

Very quite area, not much to do or see, the beach is very small. The hotel was clean and the food was okay, but beware if booked through My Travel.
We have just returned from spending Xmas here to find out our Xmas and New Year dinner was not included in our all inclusive package, and the hotel wanted 160 euros for the two of us to be included in there Gala dinner!
The pools were very cold and there is no kids club, and the entertainment at night was rubbish to say the least.Bingo from 9,30 till 10, then live show from 10 till 10.45, then disco till 12, and he played the same music every night for two weeks.
Las Americas is busier and its over one hour bus trip away. Snacks at the pool bar you had to pay for, and you had to pay for bottled water too, not my idea of all inclusive.
If you want a fun filled holiday don't go here. I would have rather been self catering so that we didn't have to spend so much time at this boring hotel, but the weather was great for Xmas time.

I have just arrived home from Tenerife to rainy Lincoln today! I used this website when looking about Tamaimo tropical after booking our holiday through direct holidays, and so I have added my comments.
It was mine and my boyfriends first holiday together, he is 22yrs, and I am 18yrs, and we had a lovely time.
I would recommend this holiday to all age groups looking for a relaxing holiday. I cannot understand people who have written in previous reviews that there was not much to do because we found loads to see and do, it’s just a case of walking into the next towns.
Los Gigantes is really pretty, to get there turn left out of the hotel and go through the cut through. The harbour is nice, take some bread with you and feed the fish in there. We went on a boat trip to look at dolphins which was ace. We went on a traditional looking boat called Katrin which cost 20 euros pp.
Playa de Arena has a great beach, to get there walk straight out of reception across the road and up the steps, turn right at the top and follow the road down, you will come to a small beach first near the patio bar, but keep walking and you will come to a lovely bigger beach not far from Charley’s bar. The sea was gorgeous, really warm because it has had the sun on it all over the summer, but be aware of the currents.
The Tamaimo Tropical apartments themselves are pleasant, although the room was very basic. We preferred to use the smaller pool around the side of the apartments though because it was quieter. People who said the pools are cold are wusses! They are chilly at first but keep swimming and you soon get used to it. You will be wanting to jump straight in the pool to cool off, it must have been nearly 30 some days.
Restaurants and bars we recommend:
1.China town 2, play de arena. We had 2 delicious meals here.
2.Outside Inn British Bar, happy hours 5-8pm. Sangria only 6 euros during happy hour. Very strong though, be warned!!!
3.Mexican at the back of the Outside Inn British Bar. I like Mexican food but my bf wasn't so keen.
4.Route 66, all the bands were good here, especially the young bloke with the pony tail who plays guitar and sings.
5.Ninos
In fact I didn’t have a bad meal or drink all week!
Overall we had a fantastic relaxing holiday which is just what we wanted. Oh and a suntan!
Sorry I can't comment on food or entertainment at the Tamaimo Tropical, because we went ate out every night. For us it is the sun, location and of course the company that makes our holiday a good one. The hotel just provides somewhere to kip at night. And the Tamaimo Tropical apartments did a good job at doing that- without any cockroaches might I add!

We first stayed at these apartments about 15 years ago, when they were first built, & had a brilliant holiday.
We booked again recently, taking our 9 yr old, but after reading a lot of reviews I was a bit worried as it sounded like they’d gone down hill a bit. Basically, I needn't have worried, as we have had a fantastic time, & my son wants to go back ASAP.
The apartments have been added to, and the new block overlooks a 2nd pool, both pools are fantastic, & the whole place is very attractively designed.
We had an apartment in the new block, it was clean, spacious and overlooked the pool. We had no problems whatsoever with the apartment, the kitchen was well equipped, and the maid came every day except Sunday, and made the beds, and changed the towels.
You are quite out of the way, here. It would be ideal to have a car, but we used the local bus service to visit Los Cristianos which is very lively. And has a fantastic very long beach. The journey was quite long approx 1 1/2 hrs as the bus goes all over the place first, but we enjoyed seeing the island this way. He bus service is very good & good value for money too, we used it a few times to get around.
There’s not really a beach as such near the complex, but we took a 20 min walk to Los Gigantes which is lovely, & has a great little beach. There’s another beach actually in Santiago as well that’s also in walking distance. We spent a few days around the pool, the pools are lovely & clean, my son would have stayed there all day if he could. Pool drinks are expensive, though & we just took our own.
Admittedly, did not go to the hotel bar, it can be quite noisy at night with lots of kids running around, but it didn’t bother us.
There’s some great little restaurants around the corner. La Pescador & Ninos gave us 2 good nights with fantastic service, & excellent food.
The 118 steps across the road lead to the bigger supermarket, shops etc. They are a killer, but you don’t have to use them. There’s another supermarket round the corner from the hotel, but it is a lot more expensive. Being self catering, we preferred to use the larger one, and got a lot more for our money!
Everyone has different tastes, but we like this place because its quiet & out of the way, but we can travel further afield when we fancy something different. Its pretty mellow, & a safe environment for kids. You don’t see timeshare touts, drunk lunatics, drug dealers etc, etc. We are by no means fuddy duddy, we love our nights out, but we go on holiday to escape the rat race, & this is the perfect place!

We stayed for 2 weeks and had a great holiday. The hotel was basic but had everything you needed and at the end of the day you get what you pay for! The room we had was clean and spacious. I had read reports of rooms filled with cockroaches, but we had 2 small ones in our room over the 2 week period but we were on the 4th floor. We met a couple who were on the ground floor who had asked to be moved due to there swarm.
The kitchens were well equipped and the maids came everyday apart from Sunday to make the beds and our towels were changed virtually every day. The morning traffic does start about 7.30am with deliveries from lorries and yes we they did disturb us but it wasn’t excessive.
The hotel is huge and some staff are friendlier than others!! The swimming pools did get busy but their were loads of sun beds and sometimes we didn't venture down until after 11am but still managed to find a spot.
The drinks around the hotel are expensive and we felt it was more catered for the all inclusive customers. We were half board and although the food in the morning was always the same there is a huge variety. Some evening meals were better than others and we chose to eat out some nights.
We went for a meal to Jessies in Los Gigantes, it was a lovely meal and we sat on the veranda and watched the sun set over the beach and the cliffs - well recommended!
We also went for a curry in Los Gigantes and this was very nice. We got a taxi there and walked back sometimes or vise versa if you use the cut through then its only a a 15 minute walk.
What you have to remember is the side where we are is slightly more expensive but that’s because you are out of the thick of it. A visit to route 66 to see 'Old dogs new tricks' is recommended but once you've seen them once that’s enough and it gets very busy on the nights they perform.
We hired a car for 4 days which I would recommend. We stocked up on basics including beer from the hypermarket which saved us quite a lot of money. You can take cans down to the pool just no glass and with the hotel prices I would advise you to do it.
We drove across the Island to Puerto de la Cruz to Loro parque good day out, although the mountains are very steep and tight avoid the coaches if possible!!
We drove to Las Americas and Los Cristianos we were glad we visited but also glad we had chosen to stay further out. We also visited the aqua park and had a fab time!!
We ordered taxis from reception to go out and they were very helpful, however they do want to charge 22e for a late check out. We didn't do it and we borrowed a room for a shower and they kept our luggage safe during the day. If you've money to burn you might want to do it, but to be honest it's pointless and there's no guarantee you'll have your room.
The steps across from the hotel are a killer but worth the walk and if you go right at the top and walk down the hill you'll find Playa l'Arena.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday, we wouldn’t go back and stay at the Tamaimo not because we didn't like it but because it was a little too quiet. We wanted a quiet holiday but sometimes when you want to do something you are too far out without a car.

Had a great holiday, had a one bedroom apartment for 4 adults which had plenty of room for all, had a lovely view of the pool from our room 356!
Room was cleaned everyday with clean towels every day maids really friendly. reception was really friendly and do all they can to help, didn’t eat once in the hotel as we were self catering, had a really horrible steak the first night in the Aberdeen steak house round the corner and the couple next to us couldn’t get out of there quick enough either.
We had 2 lovely meals in a place called the beeches not much to look at as a place but the food was fantastic and the waitress was a scream. Also as in other reviews went to route 66 to see old dogs new tricks and they were fantastic! Weather was fantastic boiling hot and blue sky all week, pools were lovely and warm only grumble really is the sun beds were hogged by the Germans putting their towels on them at the crack of dawn even though there were notices saying it wasn't allowed.
Supermarket was quite expensive and yes the one up the steps was a bit cheaper, steps were hard going in midday sun but not to bad. los gigantes was great and only 5 mins away and 2.50 euros which was great. We went dolphin and whale watching which is a definate must. Definitely go back again. All in all very pleasant holiday.

Can’t see what all the fuss is about, these apartments in my opinion were very good, for what you pay for, if you want the Savoy then pay for the Savoy. Yes there were cockroaches, yes the pool was not heated but what do you expect in a budget hotel. I never seen any robberies, except the would be Indian, who’s chef was from Bradford...68 Euros for this pathetic attempt at Vindaloo (avoid this restaurant above the supermarket).
Please take a GPS system with you as it’s impossible to get your bearings in this hotel as it’s so big. Even by the third day all our family argued they knew the way, only to realise everywhere looked the same.
If I had any complaints it would be that the Lager being served was awful. The entertainment around the pool was fantastic and consisted of some mad woman threatening to jump off the balcony of the 4th floor. She had obviously taken severe advantage of the all inclusive vodka and decided she could serenade the guests and could also fly.
This resulted in the Local SWAT police team surrounding the room to enormous applause from the guests sunning themselves below. Tip of the week:
When walking around the corridors, look into the chest of drawers as this is where the maids hide their stash of spirits! (By the way...sorry about pulling the Knob off the drawer).
The view from the balcony (Room 404) is beyond belief and would have excited any naturist but we found it so much fun playing peek a boo through the foliage. I can honestly say I would go back to these apartments.

We arrived here on Tuesday 5th September we were here for 1 week which was long enough. Hotel room was excellent very big as there was only myself and my husband.
There is two big swimming pools with bars and you can get a snack there we didn’t eat in the restaurant there as we went out to eat every night. There isn’t a lot to do, you have got a few restaurants and 2 bars that do entertainment; the courtyard and route 66 we went to both as recommended in other reviews. They do stay open late but entertainment finishes by 12pm.
There is nice restaurants we ate at Ninos and san Francesco lovely food Los Gigantes is quite close by we got a taxi there which was 2.50 euros you can walk there but weather was too hot. You can book excursions we did mount Tiede which was really good. All in all it was a brilliant holiday it’s a very relaxing holiday place but would definitely go again.

We booked this holiday as a last minute deal, the hotel looked ok and I knew that Tenerife weather wouldn't be bad at this time of year so we went ahead, we paid approx £400 for the two of us, self catering.
We flew with Futura - Spain's answer to EasyJet with Spanish Air Hostesses who seemed to have missed out the customer service part of their training...no smiles, no politeness.
Upon arrival at Reina Sofia Airport, we were not met by a resort representative; we had to find out our coach number by generally asking around. The driver had to inform us of when we were to alight the coach and thus began our holiday without any representation from Direct Holidays.
The accommodation itself was not anything to write home about, suffice to say it was clean and decent in size (we had a 1 bedroomed apartment despite there only being 2 of us).
The resort had mainly all inclusive customers so regardless of whether you were paying for drinks and food or not, you were given the same measures of what can only be described as bargain basement beverages - you know the sort I am talking about "Ye old high and mighty scotch" and it's relatives. Once we had paid over €5 for two watery beers at the pool bar, we decided enough was enough and took our own food and drinks around the pool although they say that this is not allowed, nobody challenged us.
Get up early for the sun bed scramble, again there a notices everywhere in all languages stating that reserving sun beds is forbidden but nobody took a blind bit of notice and by 10am you would be lucky to get a spare spot around the pool let alone a sun bed.
There were an inordinate amount of Spanish people staying at the Tamaimo - I didn't know whether this was a good indication of its reputation or whether it meant it was cheap and nasty and so everyone descended upon there?
The corridors carry a lot of noise and so late at night it could get quite noisy with children running around but not so you would complain - I just know that some people like absolute silence at this time, so just be aware.
The bars and restaurants surrounding the hotel itself are ok, I would recommend however that you venture to nearby Los Gigantes or Playa Del Arena, both of which are only €3 in a taxi and well worth the journey. Stay away from the bar Route 66 when "Old Dogs New Tricks" are playing unless you liked Peter Kay's tribute band "Park Avenue" as they are a very poor imitation, think X Factor Rejects and you are someway near to this atrocious band, can't believe we wasted an evening sitting listening to them warble on with their hinari soundtrack in the background.
We liked the following restaurants; found them good value for money and really good quality food;
In Los Gigantes;
Little Italy
El Pescador
The Copper Kettle
In Playa Del Arena;
The Little Mexican
The beach at La Arena was nice, very clean with good amenities. The waves can get really wild though so caution with small children but otherwise really a nice place to spend your time.
All in all we had a good holiday because we made the best of what we had but I wouldn't recommend the hotel, the tour operator or the airline to a friend so if you can find somewhere else to stay then I would advise that you do!

Hotel very clean although there are cockroaches - approx 2 small ones per day in our room - but that's life.
Room good sized although the "beds" in the lounge are poor and not for someone with a dodgy back. The pool area with the disco can be very noisy up until 12.30am. It only takes 1/2 a dozen kids running about and it sounds like a riot - must be the acoustics.
Food extremely average with Hake every night. Restaurant can get extremely chaotic if busy. Some staff friendly, others dour.
No children's play park (despite signs) however pools are very good. Beach is tiny (and black sand). Nightlife extremely limited. I liked Route 66 too, but after 5 visits I was well fed up with it. Children's entertainment is very average - pay extra and go somewhere with a Kids club.
Resort is totally unsuitable for clubbers, the elderly (hills) and IMHO young families who want something other than swimming. Oh and don't book excursion through your rep - there is a British company in los Gigs that does them for nearly 1/2 price for the same trip!

We booked this holiday in a group with two apartments and found both to be spacious and clean. Especially the kitchen which was of a very good size, with ample cutlery and plates.
Although we did not discover the second pool until the third day of our holiday, we found both pools to be well maintained with plenty of sunbathing room, However, this was only in June so the hotel was not full.
The local shop was reasonably expensive so I recommend taking the steps outside the apartment to the larger supermarket in the hotel complex at the top of the steps. Also by turning left out of the hotel you can easily take a path to Los Gigantes, well worth a visit with lots of shops and restaurants, we recommend Little Italy, near the quaint harbour.
We have rated our holiday 9 because we found the hotel staff to be friendly and welcoming to all guest. Also the overall atmosphere in the hotel was excellent! However, if you were planning to go away with a group of friends to sample the nightlife....this is not the place. Nevertheless, we had a very relaxing, enjoyable time and would seriously recommend the hotel and resort to other families.

We have been going here for about 10 years, on and off, and is our "off-peak, supplemental holiday" destination.
It is our perfect place to chill out - no loud music, no lager louts, and very low-key night life. Quiet!
Four of us went - 2 "fogies" and our 20-year old daughter and her 25-year old boyfriend. The youngsters loved it too, but it has to be said that they caught a bus to Las Americas to go clubbing on the Friday night, and had a taxi back!
This was the first time we had booked independently - definitely recommended as the scheduled airline flight from Gatwick was better that previous chartered ones. Also a better deal on the apartments as no under-occupancy supplements as imposed by tour operators!
We booked a 2-bed apartment for 4 and had loads of space with no bodies in the living area! Good maid-service - every day except Sunday; bed-linen changed every other day and towels changed daily.
The apartments have gone downhill a bit over the years. Little things like knobs coming off drawers, wardrobe doors sticking and the toilet pan rocking - so if you want upmarket, go elsewhere and pay more for it! Tamaimo is clean (not a cockroach in sight) and comfortable unless you have to sleep on the sofa beds!
The resort itself is handily placed for Los Gigantes and Playa de la Arena - the first is about a 15 minutes’ walk away and the 2nd about 20 minutes. We went into Gigantes several nights to eat - recommend Mirandas and Le Mistinguett.
Little Italy definitely to be avoided - food low-average, service poor and cruelty to birds (one Toucan, one Parrot - nothing to keep them amused or healthy) very obvious. Oh, and the small place on the road to Gigantes beach, which does crepes and ices, is well worth a try!? Their pancakes are sublime!
In Puerto Santiago, El Pescadore and Ninos are about the best places to eat. The hotel restaurant did not inspire us, but on the way through to La Arena (cut down the slope next to the new shopping area opposite Ninos and turn left along the coast path), at the top of the hill is Casa Pedro, which does fabulous Canarian food with views across the sea.
All in all, Tamaimo's downhill slide notwithstanding, we shall go back again. Puerto Santiago is well placed for a relaxing holiday, and, having been there at varying times of the year, the weather is always reliable.
