When searching for holiday, this hotel kept on popping up and before booking we researched the hotel. There were quite a view horrible reviews about the hotel and then a few good ones so we decided to just take the risk and book it anyways. And I'm so glad we did! We booked through directline holidays and flew with thomas cook and i agree with others about the legroom, it was a joke on the way there!
The journey to the hotel took about an hour but there was only 1 drop off so this was good. The hotel itself is huge and our room was on the ground floor and really accessible, just over the road there was a local supermarket so this was handy for buying bottles of water.
Our room was lovely and clean, we were surprised but pleased to find our own kitchen and the balcony had a lovely view of the pool. Contrary to previous reviews we found sunbeds really easy to acquire and didnt need to get up at the crack of dawn to get them! The food had a great selection and i think there was only one night when for me personally there wasn't anything great, however, other than that one night i thought the food was great. the staff were constantly taking away the trays and replacing them with new food even before they were empty. All of the staff were friendly and polite and all seemed happy with their jobs.
The pool area was lovely with the bar really near, the water was very cold but this didn't put us off! I thought the drinks selection was brilliant for the all inclusive package and there was definitely more choice than i thought there would be.
the evening entertainment we thoroughly enjoyed, bingo almost every night we played and the eagle show and river dancers were great too.
We mainly stayed around the hotel area during our holiday but we did venture to Siam Water Park and it was incredible, the park itself is beautiful and it is easy to get to without having to book through the reps. You can get a bus from just up the steps outside the hotel to las americas and then there is a free siam park bus from las americas. It was 28 euros each but it was well worth it. However, i would recommend waterproof suncream for this day out as you don't realise just how much sun you are getting!!!
The surrounding areas of puerto de santiago were beautiful and the local restaurants and pubs right near the hotel were all really friendly. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and I am pleased we ignored the reviews and even reading recent reviews i definitely disagree with most of the bad points on them.

Just spent 1 week all inclusive at Tamaimo Tropical (8-16 May). Couldn't fault the hotel. There are 2 squares, each around a pool. Our 1st room was over the Disco Bar & it was very noisy so they moved us straight away to the other square. Lovely clean room, tame dove on balcony!
Food was plentiful & good variety. Had delicious steaks, lamb chops, lamb casserole, hake & fresh salads. Puddings were good. Breakfast had lovely bacon & scrambled eggs. Drinks were generous & it was nice sitting around the bar in the evening making new friends. We didn't go the nightly entertainment (bingo - house = €137!) but many did.
Pools were warm, Always sunloungers available. Never saw a cockroache!
Location wise - a bit out of way but there is a half hourly bus 473 (up the 140 steps)
Do walk to Los Gigantes (short cut takes 15 mins) as there are many small shops & eateries there. Also book your dolphin spotting trip here as alot cheaper than through tour operator. Had 3 hrs & meal - €25, saw loads of dolphins.
Behind hotel are many eateries. I recommend San Francisco - €7.45 for 2 delicious courses. Do not go to The Steak House!
If you walk down past Netto & turn left along sea wall, around harbour & up the hill, there is a very cheap tobacconist there.
Supermarket Dia opposite has an upstairs!
My only gripe is Thomas Cook airlines, you are packed in like sardines for 4 hours. It is worth paying for extra legroom. Also Laura the rep was ghastly.

I went for 10 days on my own to chill, just what I needed. I asked for a quite, no clubs, relaxing place and that's just what I got. Hotel does need a a bit of loving, but for 10 days at the cost of just over £700, for one person mind, I thought it was nice. It not the best hotel I have stayed in, but not the worst either. My room was very large and slept 4 and to my suprise it had a full kitchen including fridge, bounus for me. you had a choice of pools, the nice heated pool that you see in the advitisment or another big pool not heated and this was the quiet pool with a little tiny pool for childresn 4 7 under. No noise and music was not allowed to be played at this pool, so you did have a choice. I loved the food, maybe because I just had my 3 meals a day and no snacks and I don't eat fast food so fab for me, plenty of hot or cold meals each day.
The staff are very nice and always plesant, the entertainment was like somthing from the 70s, but how funny to listen to from the bar not in the entertainment room, I couldn't beleve it Bingo to start off evry night. The bar closes at 12 so it is a good idea to order a few extra drinks at the end of the night. There is a supermarket right oposite the hotel to get any alcohol you may want, the shop closes at 9 or 930pm and has anything you want.
Plenty of nice bars and places to eat out if you want to, if you like walking this is a great place to go, if you have a problem with walking it's not the place to go.
I only have two bad things to say, make sure you buy big bottles of water in the shop to keep in your room as you can only get water by the cup at the bar, if you want a small bottle it will cost you 160 Euros and the leg room on the Thomas Cook flight was a joke.

I decided to take a last minute break with my dad and chose all inclusive because of the euro. Before we left England we said we would probbaly eat out every other evening as my previous experience of all inclusive in Spain hadn't been that great compared to the Caribean......All I can say is what a pleasant suprise!!
Hotel - Great room, very clean we had maid service and new towels every day. ALl staff really friendly.
Pool area - Lot's of sun loungers, great pool bar, heated pool lovely all very clean.
Food - Brilliant, all fresh and changed daily so lot's of choice... (By day 6 though needed a change so we went out for a Paella and Pizza)
Drinks - Again no complaints, bar shuts at 12 so make sure if you sat up longer like we did you get to order a few extra at the end.
Entertainment - Again great, the 2 entertainers worked very hard from 10am - mid dninght making sure you had a laugh...
Having read previous reviews there is a real mixed feel about this place, we loved it and would go back again. Youg et waht you pay for really if you want more choice of food and better entertainment then pay for it.. for £310 for a week I'd be very happy to go back.
Thomas cook airlines - Legroom is a joke!!

Just returned after 1 week of hell...Hotel is a like a rabbit warren. We were on the 3rd floor and on arrival, we were told to get the lift to the 1st floor, walk way across to the other block on the other side of the swimming pool and then get in another lift to the 3rd floor. We are both pensioners and nothing was mentioned about this when we booked. The lifts were 2 person (the old fashioned type with a steel door which you had to open manually to get in )so to get ouselves and two suitcases in was near impossible. The town!!itself had absolutely nothing other than a few grotty bars. There were however a few decent restaurants but these were not accessible for either myself or husband because of the amount of steps to climb. There were cockroaches in the rooms and around the pool.
On a brighter note, the staff couldn't be more helpful and were all extremely pleasant. They have a difficult job trying to give a good service to customers when the hotel itself is in such a bad state of repair and in my opinion needs pulling down or, at the very least, gutting and remodeling. My opinion for what its worth - look for somewhere else.

Well where do i start? just came home from this all i can call holiday from hell. The rooms are like a maze, took 4 days out of the 7 to find out where our room was.Our bedroom was rubbish, the headboards were not even attached to the beds, lightshades were off the lamps, beds felt damp and sticky. We went all iclusive to save spending money but ate out most nights as the food was repetitive and no selection what so ever. The snacks were the breakfast leftovers and some burgers, not even freshly served at the pool but in a cornered section of the restaraunt. The entertainment was pathetic thank god we didnt have any kids wuth us, cats roaming feely and vicious as one lady was bitten and taken to hospital, please dont let your kids near them or you for that matter. If you have walking difficulties this is not for you we were exhausted walking, everthings up hills and we are young.Only one good thing the scenery and views are lovely, but no discos or nightlife for young people, wanted home after 2 days, we read reviews before we went and though some were bad but just thought well you cant please everybody as we are quite easly pleased, but i kid not the people that have said they would go back must be mental!!!!wouldnt even go back if were free.
- Advice: elderley dont go,young nothing to do, if your a cat you will love it!!!
- Activities: the pizza shop on the corner once you have climbed the 118 steps.no kidding.

Hotel - Very nice looking hotel but also very big and could not find our room when we arrived, had to ask a security guard for help. Quite clean though and didn't see any cockroaches in our room,... but did see some in the evenings near the bar.
Room - big and spacious, had seperate bedroom area to living/kitchen area which was lovely. Bathroom fine, shower good, balcony big and had 2 chairs and a table. We had a view of the road and could see the "netto shop" and also the sea (between houses and buildings).
Pool area - nightmare, not enough sun loungers for everyone and people would come down at the crack of dawn to save a whole row of loungers by putting their towels on them, then not come and use them until midday or later. Very annoying and apparently "not allowed" but nothing was ever done about it. On 2 days we had to lay on the grass. Pools were large and deep in areas. Turned a white tankini of mine yellow as there was suncream floating around, also hurt my eyes if i went under water.
Food - breakfast was lovely, lunch/snacks/dinner were all much of the same every day but there was always something to eat and we didn't get ill once. Salad was lovely too.
Drinks - strong but nice
Entertainment - not our type, more for families with young children
Evening bar area - nightmare again, same reason as pool area, NOT ENOUGH SEATS!!! Very annoying and in the end we either went for a walk and hoped by the time we came back there would be 2 seats available, or we took 2/3 drinks each up to our room and sat on balcony.
Resort - very nice area, quiet though and not much to do. If you walk down to the coast line of an evening you could watch the sunset, which was beautiful, we did that every evening. Close by were Playa Arena and Los Gigantes, both with lovely beaches, Los Gigantes was the nicest beach, beautiful views.
Excursions - Loro Parque, a must see if you go to Tenerife. Dolphin and Whale shows were FANTASTIC!!! Highlight of the holiday.
Would not return to this hotel or resort, but still had a good time.
- Advice: Loro Parque a must see - but its a long journey up/down windy mountain roads on a coach... !

We found that the hotel is split into 2 areas, both surrounding pools. Try to get a room in the left hand area, as the right hand one has a loud disco bar in the corner which kept my Mum awake who was sleeping in the lounge area of our 1 bed apartment. I think the ones to the left are 1-50 (levels 1-4) and on the right is 51+ so if you have a room that is 459 for example, try and switch. We were on level 4 and from the lift we still had to take our cases up 3 little sets of 6 stairs or so, which was a pain.
The pools on the left hand side are also much better including one part that is heated but is 5 foot all round, so if you wanted to swim or paddle with a child you had to go in the colder pools.
We found that the facilities weren't really suitable for my 3 year old. It said that the complex had a playground, but this consisted of table tennis and pool tables, not swings etc as we thought.
The apartments themselves are nice. A good size with good kitchen and bathrooms facilities including a bath rather than just a shower, and all you would need for cooking in the room. There is a supermarket opposite the front of the hotel. The food is a little bit the same every day and be warned, you should try and get down for breakfast and dinner as it opens otherwise there were queues. There were also few sun loungers after about 8 a.m. as everyone put their towels out! The coffee machines in the restaurant only worked at breakfast time, a bit of a ploy to get you to not sit around longer than you had to in the dining room I think. If you have little ones I would try and take your own cutlery for them as the cutlery in the dining room was really large, weighty stuff.
If you want to hire a car go to Santiago car hire, run by a british couple, in a little parade of shops a couple of hundred metres away opposite the Barcelo Santiago. You do not have to pay a deposit, an excess or CDW. It was 75 euros for a 3 day car hire and I couldn't find better anywhere especially with no hidden extras. There was a small problem with our hire car and when I returned it they offered an extra day without me asking.
Try and get down into Los Gigantes which is only about 10-15 minutes away. We took my daughter out on a boat trip (10 euros for 1 hour and 15 euros for 2 hours - don't book through the reps that charge over double this). Children go free! I really didn't think that we would see any dolphins or whales, but we saw loads, and close to the boat. We also went on a camel trek near Los Christianos/Costa Adeje (the latter is where they have a market on a Thursday and Saturday)- it cost us just 20 euros for a family of 3 for 40 minutes and was an experience that my little girl loved especially as they also have baby camels in their herd and other animals like shetland ponies, pot bellied pigs etc to stroke. Not to be confused with the more commercial Camello centre in El Tanque which we couldn't find for lack of signs!
Loro Parque with its sea lion and dolphin shows and penguins on a proper iceberg was fabulous - honestly one of the best zoos I have ever been to. There is supposed to be a killer whale show but the arena was being revamped but we could see them training them. It seems a bit expensive but was great.
I would recommend Cafe Cappunccino Maria, on the promenade in Puerto de Santiago for its lovely waiters and Restaurant Plaza in Playa de La Arena, the next resort, which joins Puerto de Santiago, for its good priced meals and drinks and lovely view. They also have a dance show on a Monday night.
Mount Tiede was a really interesting day out and well worth it - the roads to it were not as hair raising as I thought, although avoid Garachico if you have a fear of the twisty roads! Oratava, La Laguna are both worth a look for their beautiful colonial buildings.
All in all, if I had young children I would probably have booked Los Christianos for its facilities if I had been to the island before. It also has a golden beach rather than the black sand that was hard to shift! Los Gigantes is stunning scenery however.

This was my first holiday with my girlfriend so we wanted to book an all inclusive package. We paid under £700 for the both of us and we flew from our local airport (Norwich). The room we was allocated on arrival was a apartment which was suitable for up to 4 people so we found this rather spacious and comfortable. The hotel and reception staff were always friendly and the maid came round to our room everyday to clean our room and leave new towels. One bad thing was they only had one iron for the whole hotel to borrow out so unless you bring your own you could be waiting a few hours to iron your clothes.
p.s I didnt see 1 cockroach the whole 7 day holiday!!!
We was on the third floor overlooking the main pool. The hotel has 2 pools and each morning it was easy enough to get a sunbed and there were enough to go around. The only problem was that if you didnt get down to the pool in reasonably good time you could find your self under a palm tree in the shade.
The food was good and they also had snacks and ice creams available throughout the day. There is also an alacare resteraunt which you can book at the reception although we didnt find this out until the last day.
There was a supermarket across the road from the hotel entrance which sold everything from food and drink to suntan lotion and rubber rings. The local center was just up a small flight of stairs near the hotel and the main beach was just a small walking distance (15mins) away which was next to the marina where all the boat trips and diving lessons launched from. The beach itself was quiet and fairly spacious and had a beautiful backdrop of the los gigantes cliffs also there are lots of bars and resteraunts along the route to the beach/marina.
There is a bus service which takes you around the island and into the main tourist attractions "playa da la americas" " siam park" and the zoo which you can pick up outside your hotel over the road and up the stairs which is fairly frequent and cheap.
Overall I would reccomend this hotel and area to anyone and we are planning to back there in 2009 again!!!
Thank you
Scott

we stayed here for 2 weeks 2 adults +2 kids all in .upgraded from self catering .
room was clean and tidy ,pool area was great , food was pleasant enough ,its a beautiful
place to visit .ie los gigantes marina. if you have young kids take some bread to
feed the fish, its good fun for them.
the only 2 downsides was 90% of the guests were spanish cos there was a festival
on at the time .plus after the first week there was not much to do. so if your looking for
a very quiet holiday for 2 weeks this would be great for you.

How do they do it for the money?
Our Family of four adults had a great holiday, but had been apprehensive beforehand due to some of the adverse comments.
The weather was good with only one day of rain right at the start. Our rooms were clean and the Maid came each day with no problem in changing the towels. Food was good, and hot and they regularly replaced the trays of food, even before they became empty. We could see the ones who would complain though, they just had a plateful of chips! There was fish, a choice of meats and we never had cause to be disappointed, although some days the lunchtime meal was better than the evening meal. The Gala meal was excellent.
We had a problem with low water pressure in our room one morning, which was sorted immediately when we were having breakfast.
Our room was on the top floor and security was not a problem. I would have been more concerned if we were on the Ground Floor where anyone from off the site could get to your room area.
The Hotel were always keen to please, that includes everyone, apart from one woman who was on the bar and was as miserable as sin to everyone - if you have been there, you know who I mean. We would have given a 9 rating if not for her attitude. Later in the holiday she was seen to be clearing plates in the Restaurant, then no sign of her at all, so she may be being moved on.
The only other point of note, and not to do with the Hotel, was the long difficult Coach journey from the Airport. We went backwards and forwards dropping people at Hotels and then we were the last drop offs - all this after a long flight that was delayed before take of by 90 minutes. Our Coach journey took a good hour and a half of stop, start, up, down , braking and generally a bad journey, although the return trip was direct to the airport with no other pick-ups.
Its all too easy to leave neagive feedback and not bother when things go well, but at this Hotel we were pleased with our Holiday choice.

Just returnded from a 12 day allinclusive break.I couldn't fault the Hotel, staff, location or the food. People in these reviews that complained about the poor choice....what do you want? Breakfast - a choice of several cereals, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, boiled eggs, tomato's, beans & yes chips, youghurt, both tinned, dried& fresh fruit, cooked meats & cheeses, large selection of breads, croissants etc & thats just breakfast.
I travelled alone & not once did I feel afraid to go out of the Hotel complex day or evening. The walks around Puerto Santiago were wonderful the natural pool & the walk into Los gigantes was lovely, hilly, but lovely.
