Nov 2005, Mrs H Williamson

Just got back 30 Oct . First room we were allocated was in the old part of the hotel , it was very substandard and dirty , we immediately complained as did our friends whose room was the same standard as ours , the manager told us that there were no other rooms available , after much persistency on our part he finally gave us 2 rooms in the new part of the hotel. The cleanliness was much better and the room had air conditioning unlike the other ones.
I was much happier until I got up through night and switched on the light in the bathroom to a swarm of cockroaches ( room 159 ) again I was told by the manager that there were absolutely no rooms left at all , he eventually gave in when he realised that we weren’t going away and magically produced us a room on the third floor , this room was cleaner than the first 2 and not a cockroach in sight. At last I was settled but by this time my children were dizzy with moving rooms lol. . The restaurant was clean but not a lot of choice, plenty of rice and chips. Long queues for drinks and entertainment was the worst iv ever seen. We wont be going back. The moral of this story is if you don’t get whet you want be persistent and don’t let the manager palm you off with excuses.

Oct 2005, Mrs C Caunt

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with the news that we had not actually been booked in, however this was not a problem and we were quickly allocated a room on the 3rd floor.
When we reached the room the 1st thing that I noticed was the huge gaps in the balcony. It was wooden design with a diamond in the middle and our 20 month old could have easily got through the gap and fallen 3 floors...
I went straight back to reception and advised them that the room was not acceptable and without hesitation offered us a ground floor apartment.
The apartment itself was quite comfortable although the beds were terrible, we had a few issues with ants in the room and also the ceiling leaked on a night and the bathroom flooded every night. Nothing a few pans and towels couldn’t resolve!!
The selection of food for the size of the complex was poor in my opinion, offering sprouts for breakfast?? Have I missed something? CHIPS CHIPS and more CHIPS - never a boiled mashed baked or roasted potato in sight! if you like veal and fish then its ideal however with 2 young children, its not easy to please everyone especially with very little choice. It was also very very repetitive and there was no variation really from day to day.
The level of service was quite poor in the restaurant and the bar, you were either ignored or had to join a massive queue to get a drink as there was only ever one person behind the bar. Even during busy times. they seem to be understaffed in all areas except cleaners!!
The entertainment in the hotel was abysmal, as were the turns that they had on in an evening. Absolutely Nothing for the kids to do, the children’s playground was non existent and the crazy golf looked like it hadn’t been touched for 10 years!! Overgrown with weeds and broken footpaths it was pretty bad!!
The pool areas were always clean and tidy however the pool was FREEZING!! Even when it was absolutely red hot it was like getting into an ice pool, the Jacuzzi stated in the brochure is not free its 5 euros for 30 mins, ok you think but then the kids are wanting it all the time!!
Around the resort there’s not much to do there is no beach but the scenery is beautiful. A few nice restaurants Ninos - fab with the kids and Aberdeen Steak House and also Little Italy in Los Gigantes is wonderful.
A bad choice if you have are disabled or have a young family / pushchair as there are steps and hills all over the place. To get to the nearest pharmacy you have to climb 117 or 118 cant remember steps or walk up a hill like a mountain - lost half a stone in those 2 weeks.
there was always a security guard on patrol which was reassuring as we were nervous about the reports of things being stolen however we didn’t hear anything like that in 2 weeks.
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel as the location is poor, the food was lousy and the service was even worse - spend a bit more and go to a decent hotel that serves nice food and has waiters that aren’t rude and ignorant.

Our Holiday was a little...

Sep 2005, Mrs E Bain

Our Holiday was a little disappointing. We arrived at the resort to be told that the 2 studio apartments we had ordered were not available and that 4 adults had to share 1 apartment with 1 bathroom. The apartment was very dirty and even after complaining was still not cleaned.
We have complained to Thomas Cook but have so far not heard any apologies or reasons as to why we never received the two apartments we had ordered.
Other than that Tenerife is a beautiful island.

Sep 2005, Miss T Phelps

We had an excellent time at these apartments, wasn’t sure what to expect after reading most of the reviews. Highly recommend the savannah restaurant food was unbelievable and such good value for money.
As was the Chinese went to both places more than twice. The hotel was nice and quiet, rooms were ok. We would go back for sure. Went to aqua park and had a great day, suggest eating at the boat house restaurant opposite the aqua park as it has a great menu and is cheap.
When we return we would hire a car so we could get out about more. There is a chemist just up the verrrry steep steps(118 of them) outside the hotel which is always useful to no especially if your travelling with kids.
The hotel has 5 pools and 2 of those are kiddies pools nice but cold!!!!! The island is very steep all round so if you have walking difficulties then not such a good place, bit bumpy for pushchairs but nothing to worry about. Not much in the way of a beach near the hotel.

The flight to our and from our...

Aug 2005, Miss D Lewis

The flight to our and from our holiday was the best thing we had, on arriving at the apartments, we had three different rooms, as they were all one bed roomed apartments not 2 bed roomed as we had booked, the cooker never worked, we had no microwave, and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired.
On our 2nd day all sunbeds had been reserve the night before, and there were only 26 umbrellas for 1400 people and only 600 sun loungers, there was rubbish all around the poolside, it was filthy in and around the pools.
The slope to get into the big pool was a death trap waiting to happen, in the evening you had to wait about 50 minutes to get served a drink as they had 1 waiter serving, you couldn’t get a table to sit down at as there wasn’t enough, We had a cockroach infestation in our room which had to be treated twice, as there were no other rooms available, the rep was very unhelpful and just said to complain to reception, which we did on numerous occasions but to no avail.
There was 5 burglaries in one week, but management was very unsympathetic, and people were told they had to report it at the police station in playa Americas which is a good hour away, there were big fights over the sunbeds, men hitting each other and children rampaging round at 4am playing knock knock ginger.
The only thing that was good was an Italian restaurant called Ninos who did wonderful food, and the entertainment in the Barcelo Santiago led by Jose and his team. I can honestly say this was a holiday from hell, never ever to be repeated.

Jul 2005, Miss J Sweenie

Very quiet when the Spanish Fiesta wasn’t on. Expensive drink, large queues as the all inclusive customers had to keep getting drinks as they would only serve one round.
Theft and muggings heard of, but never experienced. Large pool and good pool food, but meals at night in buffet style, weird and wonderful combinations!!!

Jul 2005, Miss Gemma Amphlett

We stayed on the fourth floor of the building in room 493. when we arrived at the resort it was dark so it wasn’t until we woke up in the morning and looked out of the window that we saw it, a gorgeous volcanic mountain, with the sun creeping up over it! It was lovely!
The apartment itself was nice, although on the first morning I brushed my teeth in the sink in the bathroom and suddenly there was a smell of rotten eggs and I noticed my feet getting wet, the sink was leaking! It wasn’t a major problem though, we used the kitchen sink and the kettle after that for brushing teeth, and for my partner to shave.
The microwave in the kitchen didn’t work, the light came on and it made a noise but the plate didn’t turn. we called reception as we had food that we could only cook in the micro (no oven) and they sent someone up, he played with it a bit, then tried it and the plate turned! Yay, we thought, until he left and we tried it with something actually in the microwave, and surprise surprise it didn’t work! We gave up in the end, so we tried the local supermarket to try and do a spaghetti bolognaise as now we only had a hob to cook on we walked around the shop picking up pasta, cheese, pasta sauce then we found they did not sell minced beef!
So all that went back and we ended up with beans on toast! Thank God for beans, that’s what we lived on for a whole week! the food in the hotel was awful and in the local restaurants! We did find a nice place by the dock at Los Gigantes, and a nice Chinese by the hotel but apart from that we struggled with food and lost a bit of weight! (We are quite slim people anyway, so it wasn’t a good look!)
The pool was lovely, and never overcrowded, we always chose the pool with the bridge through the middle as that was generally all adults, and nice the other pool was always very busy as there were lots of kids around so we left that pool for the parents.
The weather was lovely, over 30 every day, the only day we saw a little bit of cloudy weather was when we went to the north of the island to go to loro parque, the zoo it was amazing, I’d definitely recommend going to the sea lion show and the dolphins! they were amazing, a definite highlight.
All in all I’d recommend this holiday!

Apr 2005, Miss D Green

Myself and partner visited Tamaimo Tropical in April this year and were delighted with the complex of apartments.
There were two lovely big swimming pools and a child’s pool with plenty of room for sun loungers around all. The rooms were very clean and adequate for our needs and were cleaned every day by friendly staff.
We found a nice supermarket about a half hours walk away, which was a bit hilly to get too but you got used to it after the second or third time. There are a few places of reasonable price to eat out if you take the time to look around. But found the prices of shops in general quite expensive in the area.
Weather was Hot but tended to be a bit overcast at times. All in all an enjoyable holiday.

Oct 2004, Mrs KJ Stewart

We enjoyed our time at Tamaimo but were disappointed with the food selection and service in the restaurant.
The kids in particular were eating the same thing all the time. There were sometimes lengthy queues for drinks and often only one person serving. The table tennis table had been broken and the other sports facilities weren’t up to much.
The property was well situated between Santiago and Los Gigantes.
Having spoken to friends who were also on an all-inclusive holiday elsewhere we felt we had dipped out. They were able to choose from lots of lovely snacks during the day unlike us who had to pay for poolside snacks or go to the restaurant.
The drawback was that the kids would see people eating pizza and other things and we wouldn’t have that choice at the restaurant unless you paid for it.
