We stayed at the Riomar for 2 weeks fron 3-17th September . We booked a seaview room and when we opened the curtains WOW. What a view, it was very hot and we had to hire a fan on the 2nd day, hotel definately needs Air con but that was our only fault with the room, food not the best but we ate there every night for the 1st week but could not stomach it for the 2nd. Am definately going to go back and they are supposed to be putting Air con in next year.
Great location, but not worth the money

My partner, daughter and I stayed in this hotel between 11th and 18th August 2006. Having booked via Direct Holidays, and having read earlier reviews, we paid £45 extra for a sea view, which was well worth the investment. Arrived in the middle of the night, and immediately hired a fan for the week, as the bedroom was like a furnace. Throughout the rest of the week, we had the balcony doors open every night, and the fan on high, but the room was still uncomfortably hot. The hotel desperately needs air-conditioning in the bed rooms!! Also, the bedrooms were very small, basic and quite cramped. However, we had a reasonable sized balcony, overlooking the beach and sea, and mountians, which was lovely to sit on. Having seen the balconies at the back of the hotel, they appeared to be half the size, and now overlook a large building site (not the mountains as advertised), and it seems another large hotel is being built directly behind. The restaurant was very badly laid out. One long buffet, meaning constant queues, particularly in the evenings, with people trying to push in at different areas. Food was basic, bland, english and not always hot, but edible. Quite acceptable for fussy teenagers. The pool was smallish, and no sunbeds allowed next to the pool, but with the beach 25 steps away, this didnt cause us too much worry. The hotel is very clean and tidy, the maids keep the bedrooms and communal area immaculately clean, although the 70's decor could do with refurbishment. Evening entertainment was a little disappointing, 3 nights of club type, middle aged singers, but the terrace area outside is nice to sit in the evenings. However, the location made up for other diappointments. The hotel couldnt be in a better place, towards the edge of the resort, ioverlooking an uncrowded beach, with the resort bars and restaurants within walking distance. Had a reasonable holiday, but definitely feel the hotel needs upgrading and the holiday was over-priced.
Riomar downhill

Been to the Riomar 4 times this year. Unfortunately it has definately gone down hill in our opinioin. We had always loved staying there as the location is beautiful (right on the beach) The town is within walking distance to an array of shop, gorgeous marina and lots of restaurants and bars. There is also a lovely park for the children and plenty to keep amused at night. There is little or no entertainment in the hotel which is why we usually go. (not into rep. entertainment!!) Our children have always loved the Riomar until this year. The food was appauling, same thing everynight, not cooked properly and definately bland! The attitude of the Manager and the restaurant Manager was disgusting which was ashame as they knew us from previous years. The pool in my view is dangerous!! The steps are at the deep end which is deep, they are also unstable and require fixing. The tiles are coming away leaving grout collecting disease. I loved the riomar but I think it is time to spend money on it. It has no air con, the rooms are basic and the pool needs a definate over haul. Three children seriously hurt themselves in the time we were there and required hospital treatment. Unfortunately the managers attitutude is he can fill the hotel without updating it, this maybe so but sooner or later there will be a nasty accident. Just for your info, if you have kids you cannot sunbathe by the pool. Sunbeds and parasols are not allowed. Our children are a little bored with the beach and this year wanted to spend most of the time in the pool which was a problem for us watching them (sat on plastic furniture is not relaxing!) We will return to the riomar, love ibiza , but only when it has been done up and the manager hands it over to some new blood. I think he is complacent after 30yrs.

On arrival, opened the room door at 2am. It was like a blast furnace and it's like that all night so it's difficult to get a sleep. This is compounded by the binmen arriving around 6am. No air Con, no TV, No fridge and if you don't get a sea view not much of an outlook either. Buying a big fan in town will help, only 17 euros. Fridges are also for rent, 55euros a week. The rooms are big enough for 2adults and 1small child only, very basic. This place is 2 star but it's closer to 1 than 3. There are 120 rooms but only 33 loungers on a level below the pool with only tables and chairs at poolside. If you can't get a lounger it's 10 euros on the beach for a pair. It all seems geared up to lightening your pocket. Didn't like, would't recommend it.
Needs Aircon

My wife and I and our two sons stayed at the Riomar for 2 weeks in August 05. The apartments we had booked were overbooked by Direct Holidays and we were placed in the Hotel Riomar The room was comfortable but a little cramped with four people in it. Hotel could do with some modernisation but it was spotlessly clean. Only complaint would be the lack of air conditioning - we bought a fan in the town, cheaper than hiring one. The staff were very friendly especially the manager who was there with his family every day, he quickly learnt peoples names and greeted everyone like a long lost friend. reception staff were friendly and courteous. Food was good, hot and tasty. Entertainment nearly every night of the week. The location of the hotel was incredible, walk out the back gate, literally across the footpath straight on to the beach. only a five minute walk past bars and restaurants into the beautiful town of Santa Eulalia. Great shops, great restaurants and fantastic marina. Thinking of going back again this year.

holiday was booked as a party of six friends one couple asked if there was a chance of upgrade to seaview room we already knew there were available as we had checked on the net but was told no. as we were a party one would have expected to be seated on a table for six but no we were put on two separate tables so this meant we were not altogether which is one of the reasons we holiday together so we are able to meet at the end of the day to enjoy each others company over dinner the restarants manager was rude and was not in the least obliging and seemed more concerned with the look of the place than pleasing the client when we tackled the hotel manager he was so rude he just upped and walked away when we spoke to our travel rep he tried to help but came back to tell us the manager was overloaded with problems if he dealt with the other clients the way he treated us i'm not surprised on the positive side the rooms were spotlessly clean and the chambermaids really helpful and a pleasure to see also the bar staff were very good the food was fair there could have been more variety especially in the pud department and what there was quality wise was acceptable with the problem in the restarant I don't think we would return until they retired both managers
Not plush but clean, friendly, good food and what a view

For a 2 star rated Hotel, although Direct Holidays does give it 3 stars, it is excellent. It is not a cheap hotel by other standards but you are probably paying for the location, right on the beach at the quiet end of the beautiful Santa Eulalia promenade. It was a last minute booking for us and as we usually chose a 4 star we almost did not book but we were glad we did. Rooms are old style Spain and sparsely furnished but very clean and maid service is good. Beds clean and comfortable. Older style furniture in reception and lounge but do not let this put you off at check in as the terrace overlooking the beach and the sea is lovely, the dining room excellent and a very nice head waitress showed us to table 7 which was to be our table for the week. Wonderful no queuing at dining room door, dining whenever it suited, good selection of wine, less food to chose from compared to the 4 star buffets but of good quality and always something you could enjoy. The one down side is that there is no air conditioning and it was hot. The fan we hired at reception was well used especially during the night when trying to sleep. Our room had a view of the Church on the hill not a sea view. The sea view rooms we were told were cooler. Now in June 2006 having returned from a 4 star Hotel in Lanzarote which was certainly not 4 star we are returning to the Riomar. We have just booked this tried and tested small hotel for our second holiday this year, in September. Sure we will enjoy as much as last year and better probably than the 4 star just visited.
Perfect Location

Spent the first two wks of August at the Riomar in in a party of 4 adults and two young children. We were impressed with cleanliness of hotel, it was spotless and with daily maid service continued that way all through holiday. Location perfect, only 2 mins to beautiful beach, we didn't use the pool as it was a bit busy and 5 to 10 minutes to shops. The manager of the hotel has been there for 30 years we were told and he is around every day with his family. The resort of Santa Eulalia is lovely, very relaxing with some nice bars and restaurants. Entertainment at the hotel was on 3 nights over our 2 week stay and was very good. All in all, one of the best holidays we have had and we would definately stay here again. PS Book a room with a sea view, the view is out of this world plus with no airconditioning(although you can hire a fan very cheaply) the sea breeze cools the room down in the evening.
Hotel Riomar...

Stayed at the Hotel Riomar for one week early May 2005. The season was just starting so not all the shops and restaurants along the promenade were open, but more opened as the week went on. At the time of booking via a travel agent, a sea-view room was requested, but not paid for. We had a sea view room on the first floor. It was a delight to wake up to the morning sun. By early afternoon, the room was in the shade which left us a cool room at night. Perfect! The hotel staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotlessly clean upon arrival and were maintained on a daily basis. The rest of the hotel was comfortable and thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. Ther position of the hotel is ideal as it only a couple of metres from the beach, which can be accessed by either a few steps of a gentle slope. The town area which contains all the usual sea-side shops, cafes, supermarkets, chemists etc., is only a few minutes walk away. There are only two negative points that I can mention from my stay: The hotel swimming pool has only two sets of steps onto the water. These are both at the deep-end of the pool, so if you are uncomfortable in deep water, or are a non-swimmer you may have difficulty. The second negative point is the variety and temperature of the food served at evening meal. The evening meal menu contaned veal and hake every night. Often the food was luke warm irrespective of the time it was being served. The position and cleanliness of the hotel coupled with the friendliness of the staff somewhat outweigh the negative factors and I would certainly book another break at this hotel.
Hotel Riomar Had great holiday

Went to Hotel Riomar Santa Eulalia in June 2004 First week was very quiet not all resturants and entertainment along the prominade were open it definately livened up second week. Hotel Riomar was a nice hotel but we were unfortunate to get a room at back of hotel on first floor directly above kitchen which meant the room was very hot. We hired a fan and this did help a little. Although we had a big balcony we could not keep door open as the next balcony looked directly into our room so there was no privacy at all unless we kept door closed and curtains across. We are planning next year but will definately book seaview room as they are much cooler, but pay supplement at time of booking otherwise they will refuse to give you one I tried to pay supplement when there but they refused even though there were empty seaview rooms

Just back from the Riomar after a week in the sun , weather was glorious and dare i say it too hot at times , the hotel is a basic 2 star hotel , no more and no less , it was sold to us as a 3 star hotel but we knew what we were getting before we went as we had read some of... more
