This is a three star hotel so why do people seem to expect five star for a three star price. I have been to this hotel twice with my husband and two young kids and would definately go back. Yes the food could be better, yes the pool could be bigger, yes the rooms could be... more

In my lifetime I have stayed in hotels of various standards however it is safe to say that the Carrousel is the biggest cest pit on the face of this earth. My first impressions of this hotel on arrival made me sick. The lobby area looked like something out of 1970s. The... more

Oh where to start... first this began with a lie from the travel company that sold us the all inclusive trip (I honestly don't recall the travel company). We were first told that we were in a 3 star hotel (ok fine - not the best),BUT many of the rooms were upgraded to a 5... more

Anyone who gave this hotel less than 5/10 are obviously used to going to 4/5 star hotels. I don't know what they expected on a 3 star hotel but I thought this place was excellent value for money. The Carrousel is now called the Ocean Hotel after a takeover a few months ago... more

Just spent 2 weeks at Club Carrousel and found it perfectly OK for a 3 star hotel. The hotel is located at the edge of the hotel zone so to visit the shopping arcades/bars and nightclubs you need to catch a bus. However they run every couple of minutes and only cost... more

save money for other activities
Save money for other activities at Club Carrousel Cancun. Close to shopping, downtown, and nightlife. A smaller resort, this property offers all the extras of all-inclusive travel, with a more personal approach. I can't stress the differences between a 500 room resort and a 150 room resort. The money you say will pay for activities like tours, entertaining, and fun times out. Weigh the odds yourself, but I like the smaller resorts and saving money. Reguardless, enjoy yourself. No Cancun trip could ever be bad, you're surrounded by beauty everywhere.
small but had a personal feel
The Carrousel was not our first choice hotel as we had been booked to fly to Florida on Sept 11, obviously with the tragic events of that time we hastily rebooked the first available long haul holiday....and how glad I am that we did! I loved staying at the Carrousel from day one, friendly staff especially at the beach bar, comfortable rooms, plenty to do for my 3 children who were of varying ages. Yes, it was small but Ididnt feel lost in a sea of faces, the same people would remember my name , we felt that nothing was too much trouble and the food, facilities etc were spot on. To sum up, this holiday in this hotel is what you make it, and I for one that someday, somehow I will get back there! ...
Best service for the money
We stayed from 11-30-03 to 12-05-03. The hotel was great. The rooms are good and the beds are hard. The staff is as good as you want to be. I found out you have to ask. They probably have been told not to approach people because it might offend them. So as long as you ask, they will give you about anything. If you lilk to fish the boats are right outside. They run $80.00 to $125.00 per person depending on what kind of fishing you want to do. Take plenty of cash, Visa,M/C are not accept but in just a few places. Make sure you call your credit card company and let them know that you are going to Mexico. Mine got a hold put on it. ATM or check cards we had did not work at the ATM's. Be prepared to eat out. Breakfast OK but the rest not very good. Still found a few items to eat. If you like to party Coco Bongo has to be the coolist place I have every seen and I am 44 years old. Just sit back and relax IT'S MEXICO!!!!!
Very, very nice vacations & great time
i dont know how people write some bad information about carrousel club, we spend 7 nights and people there are very friendly, the staff will do anything to make you happy. the room, the food, the bar, the day activities, the night entertaiment is just great and the facility is very mexican. ( cancun is mexico ) "SO I WILL GO TO THE CARROUSEL AGAIN"
Make the best of it
Dont go to this resort if you want a top notch getaway because thats not not what you will get at the Carrousel. You will find this hotel to be an average resort. The staff are SUPER , the food requires heavy drinking to choke down but you eventuually build up a tolerance to the poor taste. The beach at the Carrousel was honestly larger, cleaner and wider than that of some 5 stars. The rooms are ok, but who really cares how often are you really in your room anyway? The pools were a little weak but again everything about the Carrousel is just average. The air conditioner problem that everyone is crying about never happened to us. No evening entertainment never did happen although it was promised. Cancun club Coco Bongo was great fun but girls should watch there backs. Overall i will admit that had i known about this resort and what was waiting for us in Cancun i would have spent a couple of extra hundred and upgraded to a 4 or 5 star. Also just so you know. The pictures in the travel books are totally decieving.
DO NOT TRAVEL WITH AIRTOURS
Staff brilliant, no entertainment in the evening. Food of a good quality but lacked variety. Italian restaurant closed for four days with no notice! Were not advised by Airtours (although only booking 4 days before arrival) that 20,000 protestors were expected to descend on Cancun for the World Trade Conference in the second week of my holiday. Airtours thought it was okay as they have drafted in 3,000 police and 8,000 army patrols and road blocks are in place. They advised us not to go far from the hotel and a lot of trips were cancelled. DO NOT TRAVEL WITH AIRTOURS IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH!
All about fun
All of the negative reviewers must have been inticipating a 5-star feeling. Carrousel is NOT intended to be a luxury hotel, but it definitely is a great place if you want to have fun. All of the bartenders are hilarious, we had some fun times joking arund with them, and they are all overly friendly, and they don't mind giving you a 6 ounce shot of tequila which me and another person I met down there dared eachother to do. The food is pretty good, lots of variety. You will always find something you like. The 'A la Carte' restaurant isn't exactly the greatest, but you have to have fun with it. We all ordered the steak dinner. When it came we all had to hold in our laughter because it obviously wasn't the best steak i've seen. But let's be honest in the end that is one of our best memories of this place. We had fun with the downfalls of this restaurant. Other than this, there really isn't any problem I can find with this hotel. They have beach volleyball, tennis courts, water volleyball. 3 bars(beach bar, disco bar, and pool bar) The people staying at this hotel all have the same attitude, we met and had fun with just about everybody at this hotel, and we had ourselves a great time. In fact, I still talk to some of the people I met down there. I am definitely going back to the Carrousel next time I visit Cancun, and I reccomend you do to. If you have any questions feel free to email me.
Worst Hotel Ever
This is the worst place ever. I spent 7 days in this place and I'll never set foot in this place for the rest of my life. First off.... NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! We complained for 5 days before being moved to another room that was only about 5 degrees cooler. Only because the hotel next to us kept some of the sun off off our walls. The food is terrible. I survived on domino's pizza and hamburgers at the snack bar. the beer is warm and the dump it into a 5 ounce glass so there is no hope of it not being flat. The mixed drinks(only 5 liquors) come out of plastic bags on the ground and are squirted out of a squirt gun into the same little glass or plastic cups that they wash and reuse! Bugs in the rooms and stained sheets aren't an uncommon site. They have no weather stripping around the doors and you can see daylight around the edges. If you're lucky, they might give you a floor fan to help cool you down. The "italian restaurant" inside the hotel is a complete joke. You have to make reservations and they always tell you they are full. I was there for 7 days and never saw more than 15-20 people at one time. probably because it cost the hotel more to cook these so called dishes and they can't afford to give it away to too many people. I ordered the bruschetta bread and all I got was 4 salad croutons with some v-8 tomato juice and 1 or 2 specks of cheese. the tera messou(sp) was actually carrot cake with peprika sprinkled on top. The best time we had there was laughing at the food they brought out to us. The wine wasn't too bad. had to drink a bottle of it to stomach the food though. Management is terrible... no one can make a decision about anything. The beach bar has flying ants all over it. You can be the only person at the bar and the bartender will see you sitting there and he'll keep on cleaning or go to the back for 5 minutes. don't bother renting the little sail boats. There are sand bars everywhere and you're lucky to actually get it out in the "open water" The pool bar is actually a bar pool. the "pool" is very small and is just like a city pool with tons of kids in it. They have ceiling fans at this bar but they must be turned on reverse. no circulation and no breeze. The bar on the 3rd floor disco room is even hotter than the rooms. absolutely no air conditioning and no fans. Tons of 13-14 year olds running around though. Not my stlye.....want to bring in a beer from the convenience store across the street? not after 1am you won't! they'll stop you at the front desk.it's because all their floors are tile, even in the rooms, and they don't want you dropping it and cutting yourself. didn't try cans though. stick to the fresh fruit at the outside restaurant so at least you won't get scurvy. Luke warm cola's are available at the convenience store inside the hotel for 10 pesos or 1 dollar. the bottled water isn't bad either. don't drink anything unless it is bottled and has a security cap on it. The air conditioners are in this little box inside the ceiling of your room. open it up and you will find a mess of bare electrical wires and BLACK MOLD. The filters haven't been cleaned in years either. Will soon get my pictures developed and if you would like to se some, please email me and I'll get them to you. Email me with any questions you might have. would be glad to tell you anything you wan't to know. do not stay at any place in cancun that isn't a 5 star resort. yeah, it might cost a little more but if I would have taken some of these reviews on here seriously, I would have gladly paid twice the price somewhere else...
Warning: Do Not Enter
DO NOT GO... we arrived in Cancun for a relaxing vacation, instead we recieved Club Carrousel. When we arrived at this "building" we were sceptable. We were travelling with another family and had made all of the arrangements through one agency. Our rooms where on completly oppsite ends. Anyways.. basically DO NOT GO we were almost in tears when we arrived.. after about 15 minutes we demanded to speak to our rep. who we were told was staying at the hotel next door (not a good sign) anyways we immediately complained of our situation and dissapointment with this so called 4 star?? hotel. To our suprise 2 other families had already requested to be moved (we where there not even 30 mins). We were told we would have to pay the difference and there was no guarentees because of availability. We were forced to spend a night there, we ate at the resturant in the lobby and were informed we required a reservation. Honestly it was quite funny as we waited at the entrance for the staff member to find us a table at his absoutly empty resturant, while he complaied that we needed a reservation. When we retourned to our misty horrible smelling room we tried to trun on the air- a task. when we finally got it, it was so loud it was almost unbearrable to sleep. In the morning we put the few belonings we actully unpacked back in to our bags and had them ready to leave. We wouldnt even risk a shower. Thank god we brought hand sanitisor. Breakfast was horrible, cold and spicey. Members of the other family had already gotten sick. The property.. the basic grounds were mediecore, the pool was at least 30+ years old it was in need of major repair. The beach, what beach? is the question it was a horrible dock type "thing" the water was grose and green and noone would swim in it. After a horrible morning and expericence at this "place" we left. We had no regrets about leaving, our new resort was a million times better (oasis) and we are on the verge of suing the travel agency.
Surely the best in Mexico
Staff were excellent and the facilities are more than adequet. Not sure which hotel the bad reviews were staying at but it surely couldn't be this one. Keep up the good work!
