Can only endorse what...
1 / 10
Sep 2008, Mrs A C Fisher

Can only endorse what previous"guests" or inmates have said re this hotel! What I dont understand is how it has been allowed to operate this way for so long. Do the likes of olympic no longer value their reputation or the needs and expectations of their customers, because customers are what we are, guests dont pay board, not in my book anyway.
The potential for the place is great. The building, gardens , pool etc need someone who is interested in making it a pleasant place for people to stay while in this lovely resort. then they need to get the catering, linen, beds , bathrooms and those absolutley vile antiquated toilets sorted. Cant believe how many pitying looks and comments we got from locals when asked where we were staying.
Cant believe we had no fresh veg or fruit on menu(except for a minute portion of melon) .What about all those gorgeous Greek grapes and the wonderful yoghurt. This hotel does a great disservice to Greece and the wonderful hospitality to be found there.
Even the Pantheon couldnt spoil what is a lovely resort, Booca a really nice place for snacks and drinks , very friendly owners Maria and George

The Pantheon Hall hotel (also dubbed...
3 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr C O''Connor

1 reader found this review helpful

The Pantheon Hall hotel (also dubbed by locals as "Fawlty Towers") has really earned its title in both its accommodation, the food it serves and the response of hotel staff.
Firstly, let me point something out-the holiday companies say that this hotel is located in Moraitika, it actually is in Messonghi and secondly, some of the reviews posted on this site are suspicious at best, especially those who give it 8 or higher, particularly as they appear to name the maids who actually struggled to speak a word of English! I will rate each section of the hotel as I go along.
Food: Breakfast consists of bread (french baguette sliced) with butter and jam, plus orange juice, tea or coffee. There were bowls on offer for those who bring their own cereal. They do have a sandwich toaster there, but considering you couldn't toast the bread in question, this was a bit of a laugh. Most people complained about this, but their complaints fell on deaf ears, consequentially, many brought cereal or went out for a proper breakfast (as we opted to do). Dinner consists of 3 courses-there is NO CHOICE over your starter or desert-you either take it or leave it. There are usually two choices for the main course, but they do offer a vegetarian alternative if you ask. The food is of a reasonable quality, but the lack of choice is extremely depressing. 5/10
Room: Many couples who apparently were supposed to have a double bed found that they had twin beds. These have one pillow and one sheet. Sheets were changed daily in our room although towels were only changed once in the week. They have lights and electric thankfully, although there is no air conditioning. The beds are extremely hard and this was a common complaint whilst I was there. Another big problem is the shower. There is no holder for the shower head and the showers are stupidly small, so you have to just allow the floor to be soaked although the cleaning staff always clean the floor. There is a tap, but you have to be able to sit down and be very flexible in order to use it for a wash. 3/10
Facilities: The bar serves food and drink, but if you walk about 2 minutes down the road you will find cheaper food and drink. The pool area has sun beds and shade but the swimming pool is disgusting. It is like swimming in some sort of primordial ooze with dead mosquitoes, wasps and other creepy crawlies floating around. Why they aren't fished out is a personal mystery. The public toilets are almost medieval in the sense that it appears that they haven't been cleaned since the medieval days. There is a pool table, but the cues are broken and it costs 2 euro (about £1.60 depending on conversion), the price is quite frankly appalling. 1/10
Staff: Cleaners always seemed to do their job. The place seemed to always be cleaned and fresh linen appeared every day in our room. Billy the bar man is a nice enough chap, very relaxed and friendly-he manages to do a good job. There never appeared to be a receptionist present-you had to go and look for them. Anything you wanted really had to be chased. Many asked for fans but were denied-a bit of a joke considering they cost 16-19 euros up the road and they were asking for 20 euros to rent one! 3/10
Surrounding area: Beautiful, peaceful in Messonghi and a bit livelier in Moraitika-plenty of places to buy food (thankfully) and to buy other items. Plenty of excursions although they will set you back a bit. Beach is cobbled and packed. Overall 8/10
I personally would never go back to Pantheon, but the experience has taught me one thing: make sure you have enough money to eat out daily! I would not recommend this hotel.

I find Messonghi as a nice place for holiday stay, but not in Pantheon hotel.Rooms are small with old furniture and bathrooms are disgusting and stinky.HB is a breakfast -bred, marmelade and coffe;dinner is small but usually tasty.
The most silly situation was in the end of my stay, you have to leave your room at 12 in the day of departure. It does not matter what time is your airport transfer.I had it at 6 amm on Friday but I must left my room at 12 on Thursday- it is 18 hours!

Aug 2008, P Phillips

In regards to the previous gentlemans feelings, then he must have been expecting more than a 1 star hotel. Yes the breakfast wasn't the greatest and midge wasn't the friendliest of managers but the beds were comfortable, the evening meals weren't bad and the staff were very friendly, especially barman Billy who always had a laugh and a joke with you. If you are looking for luxury then this isn't the hotel for you but if you just need a bed and evening meal so you can explore the area then this hotel is fine and I will definately be returning in the future as they have had a new manager.

Well i woouldnt confirm this to be...
4 / 10
Aug 2008, Miss C . B Barton

Well i woouldnt confirm this to be one of the hotels i would go in. We asked for a 3 bedroomed room and it only had 2 single beds ... so we went down to the reception which was spose to be 24h but ohh there was never know one around. MIDGE was one of the main men who worked behind there and he come up and shown us another room which was horrible on the back view. so we said we would keep our front view. so he brought a camp bed through. It was the smallest room i had ever seen especially for 3 people. The ROOMs where horrible they needed to be updated.. and our shower was so small. but on the other side the room was always kept tidy by the cleaners.
We met 2 lads which was the most funniest. Dan & Niall.. on there last night they got abit over the top and caused some trouble.. and the next day MIDGE basically thrown them down the stairs and told them to go and dont come back your band. Midge also started chucking there clothes over the balcony which was stupid.. that day he resigned so he said and he was drinking all day.. we had some trouble with him that night wid dan and niall cause he went up to naill and punched him in the head we was having such a laugh as well.
MIDGE was 2 different people in the day hed be so quiet and hardly speak and then at night he would be singin and on the Dj. i dont reckon much to him at all.. we always thought billy was the man to sort our problems out.
Breakfast was just bread and jam with a toaster what took like an hour to toast... i didnt reckon much to it but some days i really enjoyed it.
Billy the bar man was brilliant... he would make your holidayy and he love the HAPPY HOUR which is all drinks half price. he was a really love man who got along with everyone.... ''later later'' he would say if you asked him something...
Milka one of the waitresses was lovely women.. we got along with herr well.. the people was fantastic....
CHEFFF oh my he loved us.. he such a laugh and his rice pudding is blooody LOVELY ... and everytime he did it hed come and fetch me and give me a big bowl full as i ate it at side of the pool..
The weather was fantastic.. it wass tooo hot .. and the beach was litrally 2 seconds away from our hotel.
the pool was a right size but it needed to be cleaned and we never seen the man clean it who was responsible. it was always Me cleaning it i was known the girl who cleaned the pool.. but on other hand i got free drink now and again with my success.
Afternoon meals with half board was lovely we really enjoyed them.. the chef can sure cook. he use to always give us lots of chips with our meal reallly nice man.
Entertainment... it was okay we had some laugh with everyone and the act on was really good.
one problem we must of been the only one without it was the hotel had no air con... it was soo hot in the room specially in the morning and night..
4 me i think i would actually go back i think but the only reason would be because the people who we met was fantastic we must of met people from all round the uk..
DAN , NIALL , CHAD& FAMILY, PAUL,GEMMA,MANDY,PHIL,KEV,KAYLI&MUM,JANE,HUSBAND WHO ALWAYSED SAID TO ME WOW YOURR WHITEE.. IT WAS CAUSE HE JUST VERY BROWN LOL,LUCY RACH... EVERY ONE WE MET WAS FANTASTIC THE LIST IS TOO LONG TO KEEP GOING.
oh and one more thing the LIFT needs to be updated. so overall it needs to be modenised.
but overall the people where amazing what made the holiday.

Aug 2008, Miss L Never Go Again

i agree to what everyone is saying bout this place, faulty towers, lol,we arrived and midge greeted us,we went up to room the 3 of us me my son and daughter, got to our room by lift what a joke,it should be condemed, only 2 beds,so went to see midge downs stairs and told him there was three of us only to beds,so he took me to another room which had a camp bed in,i asked him to take it to our room so he did.the room wasnt that bad,but very small,i saw more of my son than when he was a baby,we was here for two weeks of that,it was lovely and hot,and so was our room,i went to local supermarket to buy a fan,for 19 euros ,cheaper then renting off them,we ended up with 3 fans in total.thought midge was not nice at all he never smiled, plus we experienced a differant side to him too.we met 2 lovely young guys dan and nile, they had there ups and downs with him.then the day they was going home,it was awfull for us to see,i shall say no more on that subject.but billy and milka who work there was lovely,we had 2 weeks of this hotel so we made our most of it,it was ok after abit u got used to it.messongi is a lovely place and some lovely people, and i would go there again, but not to this hotel, meals was very poor too,but we did like the chef,he was lovely to us.

Myself and my 15 year old niece...
3 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs M Chadfield

Myself and my 15 year old niece stayed here for a week, and after reading other holidays reviews was expecting the place to be only basic. My son and girlfriend had originally booked the holiday but then couldnt get the time off work so we decided to take it instead, they booked it because it was the cheapest half board property they could find. I now see why it was cheap, but other people had actually paid alot more!! As I said I was expecting basic and being as I have been on several holidays previously to Greece, believe me I do know that they are sometimes basic, but this was less than basic it was terrible. At first glance the outside looks quite nice, but dont go to the ladies toilets they are disgusting! The rooms dont look too bad but they are absolutely boiling hot, even with a fan (if you could call it that as it had no front on it). The towels didnt get changed until we had been there five days and the sheets only got changed the day before we left. One night I nearly got scolded in the shower as the cold water went off. Another night I couldnt have a shower as there was no cold water when I asked the manager (who is English) he told me that I would have to wait an hour for the water to fill up again as this happens sometime, this then meant that I missed my dinner. But this wasnt much to miss!! The meals are three course with only a choice of two main courses. They appear to be English orientated and one night the potatoes tasted like cadburys smash. They are very basic, and you are asked to keep your knife and fork after you have had your starter to use for your main course!! The breakfasts are even worse, just orange squash, bread, butter, marmalade, jam, tea or coffee and it is so good of them to provide cereal bowls and spoons but no cereal!! Apparently you have to bring your own, even though there is a sign to say only food from the restaurant should be eaten at the property.
One night my toilet wouldnt flush and the manager had to come and fix it at 2am in the morning. He told me the tank was corroded with limescale which had blocked it up and that they are old and all need replacing really.
It is very similar to Fawlty Towers, or Carry on Abroad the English Manager seems to be the receptionist, DJ, Pool bar attendant, waiter and sometimes plumber. Dont bother trying to get a safety deposit box, I asked for one at least five times, and each time he was too busy to get me a key.
The pool looked alright but there were no parasols, so we chose to go to a pool across the road. messonghi it self seems quite run down , there isnt alot there, the view from the beach is nice, and the back drop from the hotel is very pretty.
The best part about the hotel is the bar, where Billy works, as he is quite an entertainer and drinks are half price during happy hour. I would not choose to go here again though!!

Echoing other reviews here basically....
1 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr A Disappointed Guest

Echoing other reviews here basically. I am going to do my best to get Olympic to remove this hotel from their brochure as it's truly awful and should not be used.
When we arrived at the hotel first impressions were that it looked ok although the ceiling lights were hanging down by the wires and looked heavy if they were to fall on someone. We were given the keys and we went upto the room. The room not only hadn't been cleaned since the last people (who were obviously not the cleanest of people) but the room itself was in a state. It had extremely poor finishing all over, the decor and furniture were falling apart and we were not very impressed at all. Headed down to find the manager to ask if we can move. After he had contemplated this for a good 10 minutes he finally agreed.
Room number 2 was better but it was still sub standard in our opinion. I am aware it's supposed to be basic accommodation but there was a few things we didn't like about it. It wasn't very well maintained at all, and the workmanship was poor. There was mould on the shower curtain and it didn't go round properly so the floor got soaked, the shower holder was broken, the water temperature was very temperamental and there seemed to be no logic to it. The toilet often didn't flush for no reason. The light in the bathroom did not work so it was dangerous to use in the dark and the window was covered in various disgusting things, had broken glass, and did not shut so we had mosquitos coming in if we did not keep the bathroom door shut. The paint and condition of the skirting and walls was very poor, some covered in mould, and generally the room had not been very well looked after at all. The plugs were coming away from the wall which is potentially a hazard for small children, as was the exposed fuse box. The floor had brown marks all over and the chair had a stain on it which looked horrible. Remember this is the second room which we stayed in. The first was many times worse.
The bedding and towels did not get changed during our stay. The maid only came in to empty the bins. The rooms have no AC so they get ridiculously hot especially at night when trying to sleep. You can hire (!!) a fan but this costs 20 Euro per week and really isn't enough to combat the heat anyway. When we tried to hire the fan first of all the "manager" refused as he was too "busy" (he was doing nothing) to get it for us. He was never at the reception desk if you needed him, which fair enough did say he would be at the pool bar, but we were informed by another guest and the barman that he is often sleeping as he was when we needed our passports 30 mins before we had to leave! We had to get the barman to get them for us. He should only have had them for one day but he kept them all week and was never about if we needed him. The hotel is advertised as being quiet but was in fact very noisy as the entertainment and bars nearby played loud music into the night. You can hire a safety deposit box for 20 euro which is not refundable although it says it is on the piece of paper. It's only a drawer in a filing cabinet in reception any way. Hardly secure. Better padlocking your suitcases to be honest. Be careful of the lift as it doesn't have a door, you simply see a wall whizzing past.
The food in the hotel was poor. The menu was very limited to begin with only bread and butter for breakfast and only a choice between 2 mains for dinner. We tried the food the first night we stayed as we had paid for half board. It wasn't nice when it turned up, it tasted undercooked and like someone had just heated up frozen food. It was also cold. We didn't bother with it again. You also have to pay for drinks, they aren't included. We bought food from the local supermarkets nearby and ate at some restaurants too. We would recommend Popeyes near the Messonghi beach hotel entrance if you're after something quick and cheap. If you're looking for something a bit more upmarket then Zaks taverna along the main street in Messonghi is a definite must. Good food and service and it looks nice as well.
The actual resort of Messonghi seemed quite nice. Decent enough place but go to a different hotel! Owner ("Midge") unlikely to improve hotel, doesn't seem interested, will probably run it further into the ground.

Well this has to be the most...
1 / 10
Aug 2008, Miss Jennifer Lundy

Well this has to be the most disgusting hotel i have ever stayed in. Me and my two friends arrived to a very unpleasant greeting by the manager "MIDGE" all he wanted to do was go to bed as he had apparently waited up all night for us to arrive. He put us into room 202 which by the way the door number was written on in blue marker, we booked for a 3 bedded room and we were put into a hovel thats what our first thoughts were, anyway the room was two small beds and a dodgy old camp bed which had been squeezed in to the room, we had no walking space what so ever, we then went onto the balcony which wasn't even walkable 3 of us couldn't even sit on there, and the bathroom was a complete joke it was vile, the toilet was unclean and wouldn't flush for a few days, the shower was so tiny with a plastic shower curtain that didn't even work, the water in the shower was a trickle of cold water for 14 days and when you had the shower when you got out there could be an accident as the water from the shower had leaked out all over the floor we had to use our shower towels to mop up the puddles of water as there was no bath mat provided.
As we had been up all night flying there we was hungry so we expected a fully cooked breakfast but don't be fooled as you had to pay 6 euros for a cooked breakfast (why should we when we have payed half board already) so if you didn't want to pay that you got a "continental breakfast" of hard stale bread (from a plastic bag) with one choice of jam and that was what you had for two weeks. the dining area was an absolute disgrace filthy cuttlery which had never been moved off unused tables in side, the cuttlery was also washed and left to dry in a plastic bag. the evening meal was a complete joke we are used to buffet style menus, there was a set menu every night that consisted of a boiled egg chopped in half with mayonaise poured all over it this was classsed as egg mayonaise, the main course was a choice out of 2 it was mainly chicken in a sauce everynight as i cant eat sauces i asked the chef for a greek salad which was just tomato and cucumber chopped up in a bowl not a greek salad, and for desert it was a choice of 2 small scoops of ice cream or tinned fruit, so if you was a vegatarian you would be stuffed as there was no other option that goes for parents with children as well there was no kiddies menu i don't think your child would eat a vine leaves which had something that looked like a slug inside it! there was only one chef which he looked very dirty and unclean, he must be quite lazy as well as all the food is frozen and warmed up, and most of the food is not home made its bought from a local supermarket which is not what you would expect when you eat in a restraunt.
The manager midge was very arrogant and iggnorant to his guests not interested what so ever. we tried many times to complain to our rep he was never there when he was supposed to be and when we eventually seen him on our last day out of the whole fortnight we was there he didn't seem intrested what so ever, our bed sheets were never changed only our towels which was every two days, when we arrived at the hotel the rep from the coach didn't want to leave us here you could tell by the look on her face this should have been a warning! One more thing you have a notice on the back of your bedroom door about the facilities available saying you could have a safe (there was no safe, the safe was kept behind reception when there was never anybody at reception) also you can pay 20 euros to keep your room on, no you cant as apparently there is not enough room in the hotel we was kicked out of our room at twelve o clock midday when our flight wasn't until 5 o' clock saturday morning luckily we met to friends Dan and Nile that let us use their room to put our cases it was either that all leave them at the front door all day where they could get pinched, you have phones in the room but we were told by the manager himself that there was no phone line connection throughout the hotel, you had to pay 20 euros for a fan and 30 for a fridge! it also says you can exchange money but you cant you have to do that a local shop.
But i have one good thing to say we had a fabulous time in Messonghi as we spent all our time on the lovely beach which is 2 minutes away, we met some lovely people there who looked after us well there were some great lively bars on the beach at night which we spent our great nights there. we are definitley going to come back next year but definitely not to this dump of a hotel. Messonghi is a beautiful place with lots of things going on for the young people and not so young.

Not sure where to start but to put...
2 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr H MILLAR

Not sure where to start but to put three people in a room with 2 single beds is probably as good a place as any. We were moved to another room again with 2 single beds, and after much head scratching we were given a camp bed to assemble in a room clearly only big enough for 2. We had to set a table and chair on the balcony to allow us to move around the beds. The toilet didn't flush for three days, the shower was intermittent at best and the bidet wasn't even connected - just like the phone!! We hadn't enough room to hire a fridge which at 35 euros per week was too expensive anyhow! This was our fortnight!!!
The breakfast was lamentable. Dry bread , coffee, a kettle for those who wanted tea and 2 jugs of sickeningly sweet diluting orange. ( THIS WAS EVERY MORNING FOR TWO WEEKS DON'T FORGET) the evening meal was poor to average and the 'manager' was able to pour a glass of sweet wine and a glass of dry wine from the same plastic carton!!!!!!!
The pool had no filter and guests, myself included took turns to skim the surface with a net to remove detritus and bird pooh, and the poolside toilet was broken the entire fortnight.
The only things which made made this holiday bearable were the lovely people we met(Val , Wendy among others) the fact that this is a beautiful little resort and the hard work of the staff in difficult circumstances,
I would return but not to this hotel.........

If you want a nice peaceful relaxing...
8 / 10
Nov 2007, Mrs Cm Ford

If you want a nice peaceful relaxing holiday this is the place to do it. You will be surprised as you walk down the road to your left and all of a sudden there is the sea, with bars and restaurants all along the front.
Very quiet and relaxing, as the hotel rooms are very basic and if you want somewhere nice to cool down and also be in company of other people in the sun, there is plenty of shaded areas for you to sit back and relax.
Billy, your bar person is fantastic as he makes you feel so welcome, and there is nothing that is too much trouble...His cocktails are a dream! Where ever you go in this small community you are made so welcome. The bus stop to go into Corfu Town is just outside and the Olympic holiday reps are great.
If you are planning to go Half board and you are unhappy with the choice of food laid on one night, the catering staff are more than happy to assist you in finding an alternative. We found that you are able to take your own cereal if you require to do so as the breakfast menu is very basic, unless you want to pay for anything extra.
Looking forward to going back.
