Excellent value, good location
from Oceanbound100
Stayed there for 17 days in August. Great location with courtesy bus every hour. Nice rool scene. Situated in exotic gardens. Really friendly and competent front of house and restaurant staff. I 'll return. Go for the half board option.
1989 visit
from rickdLondon
I am surprised at all the average/below average reviews. It's some time back, but I visited this hotel in the summer of 1989 (18 years ago) and had a great time. It's good to hear that the gardens are still what they used to be. I remember plenty of good quality entertainment provided by a dedicated team, a good childrens club, the rooms were very clean and tidy, the food wasn't bad either. The pool area was clean with a nice pool and a lovely outside bar area. I had a very good time. ....but I suppose this review is useless for anyone going now!! Rick
Return after 23 years
from BillyBigelow
I last visited the Hotel Parque San Antonio some 23 years ago and always longed to return. The gardens are still as I remember them, maybe even more mature, but the flamingoes were missing. The one thing I recalled was the wonderful food and its presentation. Not so now, for the first couple of days I thought it was quite good but when the same things appeared day after day my opinion changed. Our room was extremely dark and lit only by three 40watt bulbs, after 3 requests these were eventually changed for brighter ones. The staff, many of whom have worked at the hotel for years seemed to understand German but not English, On arrival we were dropped off at the front gate and had to hump our cases down the steps to the reception, we were given our room number and key and pointed roughly in the direction of our room - how different to my previous stay when we were shown to our room and our cases taken there-only six people got off the coach in total so there was no excuse that reception was busy. ( I did notice throughout the week that when German guests arrived their cases were taken to their rooms on a trolley) Entertainment was almost non-existant. Would I stay at this hotel again? Probably, if only for the beautiful surroundings, but I really feel that something needs to be done to take it back to the standards of 23 years ago.
Overcharged My Credit Card!!! Avoid!!!
from eeb2007
The hotel was great, but upon returning home I discovered my credit card had been overcharged about $500. I've tried callling the hotel directly - but they tell me the line is bad and they can't hear me. I've tried emailing them - the email on the website & the one given to me over the phone will not work. I've faxed them - no response. I've called the US customoer service number. An answering machine picks up & they have yet to return my calls. Until this is reticfied, I'd suggest avioding this hotel whose billing practices, in my experience, are fraudulent and questionable.
Returning a second time in 2007!
from AmiAbroad
Reading through these reviews, I can sort of understand why a few people rated it low and why some gave it high marks. In my humble opinion, I really don't really think this resort qualifies as a four-star hotel. The food, although plentiful, just isn't quite what I expected from a four star hotel. That being said, we're still coming back a second time. Why? 1)Location, location, location!: We were absolutely certain that we didn't want to stay in a high-rise, concrete hotel jungle. And, although the southern part of the island is sunnier, I like seeing GREEN. This hotel is set in a botanical garden and in the morning you can see the snow covered Tiede. Lots of flowers. Ducks and many kitties wandering around the premises. Some days, we were perfectly content to just hang out around the pool area and take it all in. A wonderful break to a dreary winter. 2)BIG rooms. HUGE rooms. Rooms with balconies overlooking the grounds. Very nice to wake-up to. 3)Very personal. The whole atmosphere is very intimate and the staff was quite friendly. 4)You simply can't beat the price/quality value. If you are into bars/pubbing, well...this probably isn't the place for you.
Idyllic ambience
from JSSNorthSomerset
Having read some previous reviews after booking but before departing for holiday at the Sol Parque San Antonio, I was a litte apprehensive. I had chosen with care a low rise development in a quiet area, with tropical gardens and a Canarian twist to the cuisine. My wife and I were not disappointed. We found the reception staff most helpful, the food varied and imaginative, the room spacious and appointed to a high standard. The grounds are immaculate with interest levels supported by the variety of tropical plants and the resident ducks, terrapins and fish - guests of all ages were fascinated to follow the progress of eight ducklings! The backcloth of Teide and an elevated location offering sunsets over the Atlantic provided a spectacular location for a relaxing break, The 15 minute stroll through the terraced gardens of the Casino gave ready access to Puerto de la Cruz. A trip by service bus or taxi to nearby Oratava is to be recommended. We certainly found nothing about whch to complain, only much to praise and would happily return.
San Antonio Saddo's
from Greg30
Me my fiancee and our 7 year old boy went there 14-21 April 2006, ive never met such miserable people in all my life. The reception were the worst, hardly spoke any english and even refused to call our private transfer for time reconfirmation back to the airport !! Got to say the maids were nice and friendly. Our room was very spacious and clean but we had a massive plant outside our balcony on the ground floor (room 124) so never had any views at all or sunlight! There was no entertainment, i checked the board and the entertainment was reading a book in the library, checking out the garden or learning the quickstep on an evening with a guy who sings worse than jarrow elvis. NO for children, i would reccomend this for a couple who only want peace and quiet and an early night. Tv's are black and white with no english channels and the food was average. Peurto del a cruz is a nice and clean place but sooooo boring !!!! AVOID
Avoid it !

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and found it standars very poor, is a 2 star not a 4 star. The room are big but very poorly recorated . Reception staff did not care at all about it's customers. Found the food disgusting to say the least. Would never go back, if I were you would try any RIU hotels instead. Good luck and do not make the mistake...
Lovely hotel - disappointing food and entertainment
from Hi-Guys
We saw this hotel 22 years ago as newly marrieds and vowed to come back when we could afford to stay in it. We travelled with our 2 daughters ages 19 and 15. The gardens were just as we remembered them - very well tended with ponds and lots of plants and trees. Our rooms were on the first floor (324 and 325)and were huge, if a little bland, but very clean. We had a lobby for cases and shoes, two armchairs and a spotless bathroom. No refreshments but there is a mini fridge so you can have it filled or fill it yourself. The steps didn't bother us and we were delighted to find that as the sunbeds didn't get put out until 9 am or 9.30 that it was easy to have breakfast and still be able to get four and an umbrella. The weather was not as hot as my daughters would have liked but very pleasant at 19 - 23 C during the day. The pool is heated to 23 C but was too chilly for me although the girls did venture in a couple of times. Of course it tends to cloud over in the afternoon so we would go off in the car then. We found the reception staff unsmiling and barely helpful. We had to return to ask about safety deposit boxes and towels - no one offered to help with cases - they just pointed out the general direction to aim for. The majority of guests were German with a smattering of English and other nationalities. The evening entertainment was dire - one man and his keyboard playing musak most nights (Do you know the way to San Jose?)although the female singer was a bit better. We missed the flamenco "show". The breakfast was good - buffet style and we had no problem getting a table for 4 at the beginning of our stay (7 April). However, dinner could be much improved - tinned peaches, tinned pineapple and tinned fruit cocktail with bananas in custard and jelly cubes appeared every night. Yes, they cooked fresh meat and fish for you while you queued, but the same salads were out every night. You could choose pasta, potatoes, chips and various other meat and fish dishes but the peas were tinned. By Tuesday 11th the hotel was full and people were queuing to be seated within half an hour of the start of dinner. The staff are reduced to clearing your plates - but they were much more friendly than reception. All in all we had a relaxing week. It is very quiet although there might be some road noise depending on your room - luckily our girls were happy to just chill out for a week as the only thing on offer was shooting or a tour of the hotel. It rained all day the last day and then you have to go out as there is virtually nothing to do in the hotel. Strangely, the bar on the last evening was packed and quite lively - why not before? The area around the hotel is residential and set back from the town. A good place for those who like to do their own thing perhaps but don't go expecting gourmet food. Take an umbrella for when you have to dash to the dining room in the rain!
Lovely Hotel in true Canarian style
from A TripAdvisor Member
Puerto de la Cruz is an ideal place to get some winter sun, lovely green gardens, dramatic seas and a good centre to tour around or sit in the sun. It does get cloudy but the sun is still warm. Having read some of the reviews of this Hotel for 2005 we arrived in trepidation only to find huge rooms with a sitting area and terrance (others had balconies) onto picturesque pond with turtles or swimming pool. The Hotel is set up from the centre of the town behind the Casino with parks to walk to and look down on Puerto.Hire cars can be parked in side roads. There is a free bus service into the town and Taxis cost around 4 euro to the centre. The hotel is set in botanica style gardens established in the 1960's.It is built around the pool or ponds in a rectangle format with two/three floors The staff were friendly and very anxious to please. The restaurant was good and probably not a 4 star quality (by UK standards) as far as self service and paper napkins but the food was fresh with hot plates on which your meat/fish was cooked by chefs to order. The bedrooms were well looked after and cleaned well. No hospitality trays through so take travel kettles. Hotel has Cyber area to keep in touch with home. The pool was clean with a substantial safety fence sectioning off the child's end which starts shallow and goes to .9m from the adult deeper end and is an attractive shape. It was regularly cleaned. When sun chairs ran out the staff immediately brought some more - yes some people did "bag/ towel" chairs early in the morning but that happens all over the world. With a seven year old in tow, this was ideal while providing the adults with some pampering. The hotel had a mix of nationalities which made it more attractive than being all English - in fact we were few and far between- others being German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish. A problem are the steps- if you are not agile as there are steps down to the hotel from the road but the staff are only too eager to help with cases etc. There are stairs up to the restaurant but there was an electronic stair lift - which we did not see being used. If you are looking for a top of the range 4 star then this is not for you. But if you want 4 star comfortable, clean, quiet and attractive Canarian Style, not a high rise concrete hotel, try this one.
I would never recommend this hotel to any friends. To start with, the food was certainly below 4 star hotel standard. Breakfast was supposed to be served until 10a.m. but regularly at 9:45 the food was taken away. While you were eating the staff were turning off the lights... more
