we returned from a week long stay at alaiye in july and can say we were not impressed. to start the hotel room was very small and not very private as you could clearly hear the guests above having a conversation. we did not find the hotel staff particularly friendly especially when we got duty free items stole from our room, they did nothing to help and decided not to speak english. everything seemd to be catered towards Germans. also on arrival we were told we could keep the room on for an extra day for free as we had arrived late, but on leaving they expected us to pay and only got to keep it a few hours. have been going to alanya for years and never had any problems til i stayed here. would recommend avoiding this hotel.
Perfectly Pleasant

I have just come back from a one week stay at the alaiye, having not read any of these reviews before going I'm quite shocked at some of them. I went with my friend and stayed in twin room, booked via thomas cook as last minute deal. Found all the staff really friendly and helpful, especially the waiters. Everyone spoke english fine, no communication problems what-so-ever. The breakfast was impressive, quite an array of stuff including cereal, toast, pastries, eggs, meat etc. Loads of people seem to complain about the tea and coffee - i only had the apple tea, which was delicious, so can not comment otherwise. Evening meals also impressive selection, i particularly recommend the baklava off the deserts tray and the feta is delicious!! The pool is just the right size, if you need anything bigger I'd suggest the sea just across the road. Staff are around 24 hours, literally! and are very helpful. I'd strongly recommend tapping into their wealth of local knowledge! Rooms are nothing special but big enough, comfortable, clean and with a serious power shower! Overall a nice hotel at reasonable price! If you're after luxury, look elsewhere, but for a simple relaxing beach holiday - perfect!!
Delighted with Hotel Alaiye
from Beshla
Just back from a week staying at the Alaiye with my 19 year old daughter. We found this hotel absolutely clean and the staff very friendly. The breakfast was fine, very varied with eggs, meat, cheese, salad, lots of fantastic bread, you could certainly fill up for the day! We drank green tea - perfect, juice was a bit sweet though. Rooms were very clean, fantastic shower even a hidden fridge, perfect for keeping cool drinks. The pool was fine, plenty of sun loungers with two upper sunbathing decks. Nice jewelery shop, very pleasant assistant and not one bit pushy! We didn't try the turkish baths, not really interested. We felt that the drinks in the hotel were a bit pricey, but food menu was very reasonable. The hotel has its own private part of the beautiful Kleopatra beach, attendant was very watchful over his patch and you feel that you could go for a walk and leave your beach stuff quite happily. Overall we couldn't fault the hotel one bit. The only thing that spoilt our holiday was the men at the shops, we couldn't go anywhere but they kept on hounding us. I feel that they should not be allowed to carry on like this. Otherwise weather was scorching and we enjoyed ourselves.
Going back in 2008

I would just like to say to all those people that wrote reviews regarding this hotel, and with regards to only having one English TV channel, GET OUT MORE! You go on holiday to explore and experience the culture of the country your in. Alanya has a lot to offer other than the beach! I must say, I am a big fan of Turkey and have been going back year upon year. I visited Alanya near on 12 years ago and it has changed so much since. I went to Icmeler this year which was fantastic but am coming back to Alanya this year and am bringing my parents. Last time I came, I stayed at the Alaiye. I found the staff to be very helpful and polite at all times, Mesut on reception was trying desperately to improve his English and would always ask to make sure he had got it right. The rooms were always clean. The night security fella was also very reassuring when we used to come back late at night or early hours. If anyone goes back there, be sure to visit Sunset Restaurant, it is down one of the side streets near the medical centre. Its very good. Anyway, enough of my ranting. Visit yourselves, if Alanya isn't for you, try Olu Deniz, Fethiye or Icmeler, you won't be disappointed for sure. Turkey is such a beautiful country, its a must see.
Cheap and cheerful

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a weeks stay (half board) at the Alaiye Apartments in Alanya. We read the reviews prior to travelling to the resort and were rather anxious as to what to expect on arrival. My view would support the earlier "beautiful resort - hotel OK" comments. Admitedly the breakfast is quite poor but the rep assured us that it was traditional Turkish fare - typically bread, jam, fruit, feta type cheese, processed meat and dodgy tasting tea and coffee. This is in stark contrast to the evening meals which we found to be really enjoyable. It;s set up as a buffet and is usually soup and bread to start followed by a wide range of salad/ stuffed peppers etc with chips/rice/pasta/potato gratin and an accompanying main dish i.e. chicken and vegetables in a tomato based sauce. We also found out that you can go all inclusive for around £9 per person per day - ask at reception on arrival. The rooms were basic but clean and the shower was excellent(free air conditioning while we were there) - after all you don't go on holiday to sit in your room all day and watch TV do you! The pool was really good and there are plenty of sun loungers available if you can't be bothered to make the 200 yard walk to the beach. Kleopatra Beach is absolutely beautiful by the way. I would recommend the turkish bath at the hotel - for about £15 you get the bath, a face mask, full body massage and a jacuzzi afterwards (lasts about 2.5 hours). Plus the guys that work in there are really friendly and good fun. There is a pretty even split in the hotel, with a good mix of Germans, English and other European nations and the atmosphere was generally very good. Things to do in Alanya: Water park in town (a bit expensive but a good craic) Boat trip from the harbour Taxi ride to the castle Kleopatra Beach Nighclubs in the harbour area - Havana Club in particular Turkish bath Bartering in the Bazaar Ottoman House retaurant (ask at reception) - beware of Tom the Cat (he's an angry little chap) Smoke the shisha!!! Overall an enjoyable and relaxing week in a cheap and cheerful hotel that is a great base for a holiday on a budget. One final tip - change your money into Euros - works out much cheaper - best rates at the post office on Attaturk Boulevard.
Beware!!!! Don't stay at this hell hole (unless you are German!)

My husband and I booked a last minute holiday to this Hotel in November 2005. We were advised that this was an up and coming lively resort that would be ideal for us. I am 25 and my husband is 32 and were looking forward to a relaxing week with good nightlife as we had requested along with a nice, clean, good quailty hotel. This is very far from what we got! The resort was like a ghost town (that looked and felt like Blackpool) and here is our list of problems with this hotel from the minute we got there: 1) Nobody in the hotel speaks a word of English 2) Staff are not interested in helping you at all 3) The rooms are like cupboards - tiny 4) The beds are like wood 5) The pool bar we had looked forward too was shut the whole time and the swimming pool would have given you a heart attack it was so cold. 6) There was only 1 english tv channel out of 28 - so much for the sky tv! 7) The pool/enterainment room had rotten half-eaten left over food lying around, plus the table was broken and there were no lights. 8) The indoor pool was too cold to go into and you have to pay to go into the Sauna. 9) The breakfast was disgusting to say the least We could go on and on about this hotel but I will not waste any more of my time on this hotel as we want to forget the whole experience. Aviod like the plague! Even if you are offered to go for £10 per person.
lovely resort, hotel ok!

wee went for a last minute holiday with thomas cook, think we paid about £120 each for the week. my boyfriend and i went to just have a break away from life at home, i am 25 he is 26. not the first place we thought of going, neither of us had been to turkey or ever fancied going there. we had ideas of it being filthy with really ignorant rude people, we couldnt have been more wrong! we have been to many of your usual holiday spots, tenerife, spain, ibiza etc but alanya was the cleanest, most friendly resort we have ever been to. the hotel was ok, it wasnt the ritz but when your paying that kind of money what more can you expect. saying that the rooms were spacious enough for us with tv, bathroom with bath and shower and balcony. it was cleaned immaculately every day as was the rest of the hotel. the pool had plenty of sunbeds and had a swim up bar which remained in the shace all day, trust me though it was a welcome relief to the scorching sun! i dont think i could go there in the heat of july/august, it was reaching 35c every day in may and was only going to get hotter as the summer went on. definately recommend the beach, its only across the road, for 2 loungers with matresses and a parasol it worked out about £3 per day, well worth it. the sea is beautiful and the sand is between sand and shingle so it doesnt stick to you but doesnt hurt to walk on. definately recommend going on one of the boat trips, book with the lads off the beach, much cheaper and trustworthy. all the turkish speak fluent english and are so friendly to you, amazing people. there isnt much to do at night but there are hundreds of small restaurant/cafes to eat and drink. the bread they serve everywhere is free so dont refuse it, its gorgeous! there is more nightlife around in the harbour, plenty nightclubs and lively bars. the drinks are a bit expensive though, especially spirits, about £3/4 for a vodka coke. i would recommend alanya for couples old and young, especially small groups so you can sit and have a meal in one of the restaurants and carry on drinking in good company, this includes the staff who work there. we will definately go back soon and were taking friends and family with us!!
read this before you book....

Fortunately I had read a review about this hotel before we went there on holiday but unluckily for us we had already booked a late deal. I would advise families with young children not to stay here as there is nothing at all for them to do. We had three children in tow and the youngest was definately bored and the eldest two constantly swam in the pool, which eventually got really boring for them too. The only English channel on the television is euronews...yawn....Well it does get a little boring watching the same thing over and over again. If you go self catering the biggest apartments are one bedroomed. These consist of a bedroom with two single, extremely short and uncomfortable beds. This has an en-suite bathroom but everyone has to use it so there is no privacy at all. Anyone else has to sleep in the lounge on hard sofa beds so yet again no privacy. The meals in the restaurant are terrible and I would definately advise against eating there. There are better places to eat in Alanya and for less money too. The manager is never available and when you do manage to speak to him he is totally oblivious to everything and very unhelpful. The bar staff are extremely rude as are the reception staff. Hardly anyone speaks any English but this doesn't excuse the arrogance and ignorance we received. The only people in the hotel that were helpful and friendly were the cleaning women who went out of their way to make you happy. Beware also that there is no washing machine to use so you have to pay extortionate prices to have your laundry done by these people. If you are visiting Alanya then be wise and shop around for excursions as you can be ripped off. Don't be put off by this though as we went on a few and would definately recommend the jeep safari as it was great fun. The harbour is also worth a visit as well as the surrounding villages including the water falls at Managvet. When purchasing items in shops and markets do not be deterred by prices as all these are open to haggling and believe me you can get some good items at very cheap prices if you are willing to do this. It is good fun though and would definately recommend it. Last but by no means the least the beach is beautiful and excellent for the young and old alike. If you do visit Alanya for your holiday then I would advise choosing another hotel even the locals, who are friendly and can speak English, thought we were mad for staying there.
Things to know about Alaiye Kleopatra Hotel
from shango786
We stayed at this hotel during our two week holiday in july 2005. I dont know where to start with my review, but i will give you some information that you might find usful before you travel. There were 4 people in our party, 3 adults and 1 child age 8. We had two rooms for that reason. The good points of this hotel are it is across the road from the beach, and in the centre of Alanya, so very near all the shopping area, it is also a few feet from burger king which was used by us all the time etc. Bad points:- The staff hardly speak any english and are not very accomading if you need anything as they dont understand the language. The hotel is full of Germans and Russians (happy lot) if you know what i mean. The nightclubs are about a 30 minute walk, the bus goes there too. The bedrooms are very small and if you are over 6ft tall the bed will be too short for you as we found out. the breakfast is crap, the tea is like mud as is the coffee, so take your own. if you tell the shop keepers you are british they will try to rip you off as they think you come from a very wealthy country and so you must be too. the bazaar and the friday market are the best places to shop. Take the bus to Managavat, which is about 1 hour drive, to do shopping, its alot cheaper as it caters for the turks and not the tourists. If you want to go to the beach you have to pay to use the sunloungers and parasols, so the best thing is just take your towel and place it on the sand and lie on that. You have to pay to use the fridge, and you are not allowed food in your room from outside. you can smugle it in. i think this hotel is not suitable for english speaking guest, they just dont understand a thing. our flights were at 6am on wed. but we had to leave the room 12pm tuesday, and wanted to know if we could keep our rooms at an extra cost until 1am, it took me 4 days of leaving messages with one member of staff to another and still no one got back to me until i asked to see the manager. First i was told he was inside, then i was told he was going to be there at midnight. I told them i would be back. I was in reception at midnight, he was also there talking to other guests but he didnt see me till 2am and still he didnt understand what i was saying, anyway we booked our room with another hotel in the end because it was going to be a long long day especially with kids. We travel with thomas cook who were ok. in reality you need to help yourself. This hotel is suitable for non english european guests. If you book excursions be careful with the extras. They tell you the meals are included in the price of the excursion but you have to pay for drinks, which can add up as they charge what they want. If you go for a meal where prices of food are not displayed ask first, as they charged you what ever they want. Turkey is a nice place, This was my 4 visit. and i will go again, so dont be too proud to barter, what ever price they give you, you say you will pay less then half, if they disagree just walk away they will allways give a stupid starting price.
do not have a tattoo in the hotel me and my girlfriend had one on the last day and wat a mess after a couple of days u could see the mistakes she had made as it is it will cost one hundred fifty pounds to make both right u have been warned
