Brilliant!

As a holiday maker i can say ive found no faults in this brilliant site. There is plenty to do there and if you dont want to stay on the site you can have a stroll down the near by village. Staying on site is also very good, you can play sports in their outdoor football and basketball pitch, the teamstars normally play games with the younger children in the smaller club during the day so the adults can sit back and relax,or even join in.The swimming pool is very clean and the lifeguards are friendly and very very helpfull. Their is a near by beach too. The night-life in the club is outstanding they have adult entertainment, bingo and the childrens activitys. The teamstars and bar staff are very friendly and are always happy to help. My family enjoyed it coming to this site and would like to come again. i would personally reccomend that people tried out this site for theirselves and experience a brilliant time.

  • Advice: ashington and newbigging are very nice areas with plenty to do their before coming back to the site.

We have just returned from Sandy Bay having stayed for the Easter Weekend. We stayed on the touring pitch (4 Adults, 2 Children and a dog) and we have had a fantastic time. When we arrived we checked in at reception (staff were all friendly and helpful) who told us to go down to the touring site where we could just pick our own pitch. We picked a pitch which was on the outside of the field and the sizes were very generous. (We spoke to a couple of regulars and they said that the pitches on the side did not flood when raining but the middle pitches do, though it did not rain when we were there so I cannot comment personally). I must say that the pitches in the middle could have been organised better and they were quite close together. The toilets and shower facilities were clean and were cleaned on a regular basis. You are given 2 keys for the facilities as they are locked on a night. There is only 2 showers for both men and women and there was sometimes a queue later on in the morning. The pool was clean and the lifeguards were friendly as were the funsters who entertained the kids during the day and night. I can not comment on the food as we did not eat at the Boathouse, although it did look ok. The beach was also lovely, although you do have to go over some rocks to get to it! We have often gone to Haven and I found the staff and facilities a lot better then some of the Haven sites we have visited. We can't wait to go back!!

I thought I had made a big mistake when I read the reviews AFTER booking...however thankfully I breathed a sigh of relief when I arrived. The park looked clean and was in a good spot, right next to a lovely beach (ok its not like you would see abroad or anything but it was clean and easy to get to)
Reception was basic, staff were friendly and attentive. We got our keys and nervously went to find our caravan. Wow it was lovely, im not sure how this happened (I didnt ask obviously!)but we booked a Bronze and ended up with what I assumed to be a Silver, very clean, spacious with an en-suite. Fully equipped with lots of storage. Only 5 channels on the portable TV, however it takes DVD's if you want to bring your own films.
Ok, there is an all day entertainment programme which runs from the club house for the kids, however thats not really our bag as we like to get out and about. I recommend Alnwick Castle (£32 for family of 4) and the Life Science Centre, (£9.95, kids are free with Park Resort token) both a little drive away but well worth it.
Eve entertainment is usually cabaret, karaoke and silly songs and dancing for the kids. The bar prices were very reasonable and the bar staff friendly. Amusement Arcade was small and housed mainly bandits, not good for 5 and 8 yr olds so they spent most on Air Slammers and Two penny falls. Oh and watch out for bubble guns, they are everywhere. If you cant beat em join em, get the kids one from behind the bar for a fiver, they are ace and you wont hear a peep out of em until the bubbles run out!!
We didnt get to use the pool so cant comment on that.
The on site shop was expensive, I recommend you bring a few bits with you, salt, sauces, brewing up stuff, cooking oil etc and then go to the Asda in Ashington.
Overall it was great value for money was a memorable holiday for the right reasons.

We arrived on the site at 15.40hrs after travelling for 4 hours, our first impression of it was absolute shock and horror. anyway we went to reception to pick up our keys and was told that we were twenty minutes too early and to have a walk around the side where the shop, restaurant! takeaway and amusements were, we could have cried it was shabby, the takeaway was chained and padlocked and the amusements were dark and dingy, we didn't bother to go into the shop we had decided we were not going to spend another penny on this site. We sat in the car for 20 minutes really downhearted and then went to pick up the keys, the man at the desk was pleasant enough and went onto go through the welcome pack pointing out that if we wanted to book another stay there there was a form in the pack (WHAT A JOKE!). He gave us a site map and penned in directions to the caravan. We got lost but the signage on the site was terrible, we ended up driving right round the site and were dismayed at the general scruffy appearance of the place and I used to manage two gypsy caravan sites, both of which looked like a caravan club site compared to this dump. The caravan smelled damp. There was black mould around the windows and the caravan had not seen a cleaner in a long time. Quite why we had to wait 20 minutes before we could have access to the van is a mystery. I can only conclude that the girl who made us wait did so to amuse herself in some way (power corrupts). Now for the "David Bellamy conservation award 2008" so proudly displayed on the walls and on the site brochures. The sand dunes (rubbish dump) are horrific and you should really make sure your tetanus jabs are up to date before you go barefoot. There was glass and bottles everywhere also lots of half drinks tins with jagged edges which are just the job for cutting your feet on. The place is a complete toilet not a camp site. The beach is mud covered in coal dust. We stayed one night and took the keys back in disgust, the guy on the desk had a condescending "i really am hurt" look about him, I stated that this was the dirtiest site I had ever stayed on and that the whole place was little better than a public toilet and that I was handing my keys back as there was no way that I was going to spend another night in a place like that. He made no offer, in fact all he said (still wearing his Mr Sincerity look) was he was "so very sorry". No offer of money back or anything. I could rant further but whats the use. Would I go there again? I would rather spend a week with my mother in law.

Our first impression of the park was not very good because, the only entrance road leading to reception is in quite a bad state with potholes. Booking in at reception was quick and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a gold (accessable)van, there was a ramp leading up to the door, ideal for anyone with mobility problems as one of our party has. We were very pleased when we entered the van and had a look around, it realy was well equiped for people with mobility problems, the bathroom had hand rails by the toilet and shower, the shower also had a seat. Apart from the door into the van all doors were sliding which was a great help.
All beds were made and all bedding was spotless. The decor and furniture were all very clean and modern, and freeview tv. Apart from having a good look around the first thing you want is a nice cup of tea, from a nice clean cup, unfortunately the first two cups we took from the cupboard were dirty, we then went on to find a dirty glass and three dirty plates, so the next hour was spent washing every peice of crockery and cutlery. (Reception were very sorry and said they'd have a word with the housekeeper). On our second day the gas bottle needed replacing and was changed within 2 hours.
We have booked to return in late May for another week. Watch this space!

  • Advice: The North East has many places of interest 1 week is not long enough to experience it all Buy a Geo.

On our arrival on Saturday lunch time we went to see our allocated van and returned to the reception to enquire about an upgrade as even from the outside it did not look very well maintained. We were informed that the whole park was fully booked until September 17th so waited until our keys were issued to take a look inside. Once the keys had been issued we went to unpack our car and settle ourselves into the van. When entering the van it became very obvious that it had not been cleaned and there was a very musty smell to it so we just left everything possible unpacked apart from the food we had. Luckily for us we were holidaying with another family who had booked one of your Platinum vans so we could at least eat there as the kitchen in our van was filthy. The next morning I went back to reception and insisted that someone came to take a look at the van and who I presumed was the manageress did just that and agreed that it was not acceptable and said that as many of the problems as possible would be corrected ASAP. A maintenance man followed shortly and wiped the hob top and kitchen ceiling with a clothe and provided a knob for the one missing on the hob top controls and informed us that he would return to fix the other issues. Neither the Manageress nor the maintenance man returned and all of the attached photos were taken after we were promised that these problems would be sorted. I had no intention of spending the rest of my holiday going backwards and forwards to reception to get a progress update as I would assume that the Manager that you employ would be professional enough to follow issues through to a satisfactory conclusion. We did not expect 5 star accommodations as we had only booked your bronze option but would still expect that any accommodation to at least meet basic hygiene levels of which this did not. During the week the weather got gradually worse and although I appreciate you have no control over this you do control the access to and from your properties and as you can see from the photos we could not get in or out without walking across sodden grass that was under at best an inch of water. As access became increasingly difficult we decided that we had no other option but to cut our holiday short. Please look at the list below as I and I am sure many others will be very interested in whether you feel that the service provided in any way matches the standards promised in your brochures.
In addition to our own personal issues we were also very disappointed and felt misled by the description of the park and its facilities in your brochure and the general up keep of the entire complex. On arriving the first thing you are greeted by is the Park Resorts sign which is broken and listing on the left hand sign and a drive way that is in need of serious work to the dozens of pot holes both of which do not give a good first impression of the park. Also mentioned is the private beach which is true but there is no mention of the power station and six industrial chimneys to the left and the wind farm and what appears to be a very large shipyard or industrial estate to the right on view from it. The park is also very obviously the home of the vast majority due to all of the works vans present many of which were for people with the skills to sort all of the problems that you have with the park. Because of this the park is more of a trailer park by the sea and not a holiday park and the Bar / Club was more like a Working Men’s Club than a holiday entertainment complex. Despite this the locals were friendly and we even got a welcomed warning from one lady stating it was best to avoid the beach and what were picnic areas after a certain time due to a well known gang of trouble makers. On the exiting the park you are sent around a one way system around the almost the entire park which shows you that some of the residents have no problem living in van surrounded by junk & overgrowth with the end of one van touching the floor with the other end 5 foot in the air. I would imagine that all of these points should be of great concern to you as they do not paint a very pleasant picture of what Park Resorts offer and will look forward with interest to your response.

I wouldn't go bacWe have just returned from Sandy Bay and after reading all the reviews on the internet we were not looking forward to it! We arrived early and as the caravan wasn't ready we had a walk round, we found some of the caravans to be well kept and others looked shabby and run down.
Once we were phoned to say our caravan was ready we went to find it with dread! We had booked a gold caravan and when we found it we were pleasantly surprised (M15). It was almost new, bedding was clean and if you didn't look too hard it appeared clean on the surface.
We didn't use the clubhouse much but it was what you'd expect on a caravan site really, I have been to worse, food was cold but varied menu. Not enough bar staff though.
Our freinds were joining us and arrived the next day, they had booked three bronze caravans altogether and I must say they were disgusting and not clean at all.
Mould on windows, hairs in the sink, stains all over carpet and settee's, blood stains on duvets. They spent the duration of their holiday in ours!
They didn't complain as were told the park was full!
k to Sandy Bay but we were plaesed with our caravan and beach walking at night was a pleasant experience. Our friends would definately not go back!

Arrived at sandy bay caravan park on 1st may 2009 looking forward to a holiday with my family got to reception got the keys for the caravan opened the door looked inside the caravan and the curtains were hanging off, nets were dirty, the seats had brown stains all over them and didn't even really want to sit down, the caravan smelt of damp, the bedding was all stained, smoke detector was on the floor, not fit for a dog to stay in i went back to reception and the guy on reception had only worked there for 4 hours poor lad he gave me the keys for another caravan to have a look at and it was just as bad if not worse and this was the beginning of the season. I went back to reception and spoke to the lad on reception and said there is no way we are staying here. i have caravaned all my life but never seen anything as dirty as this my advice would be strongly go somewhere else.We left after about an hour and stopped in a hotel in newcastle we then went from there and stopped in a hotel in seaburn. The north east is a very nice place and i have spent many a good times in whitley bay, north sheilds and seaburn a place to go and visit i will never return to sandy bay never in my life time

  • Advice: it is a really nice place if you don
  • Activities: My best sightseeing activity was driving out of sandbay and never looking back
