Excelsior Planet Hotel

First of all Cervinia is a far more attractive resort than the impression given by many of the mountain guides, and the hotel from the outside does not let the side down. The hotel is also well positioned in the resort being particularly close to a rapid chair ready to lift you into the ski region from 8.30am. We were to discover over our visit that this was its primary (only?) benefit. We stayed here on the weekend before Xmas 2007. The hotel is very well located 30m from a good chair lift into the Cervinia ski area with great views of the mountain. There is also a free carpark opposite the hotel for those driving up. Another plus of the hotel is the use of a steam room and sauna (and very small pool) - the hotel charges 5 euro per person for this per night. Nice big rooms with everything you need - we had a suite on 1st floor facing the matterhorn, the french doors are small and the room is a little dark. could have had a few more decorative touches. the lounge area is really designed for the sofa bed to be extended. All the bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and efficient and maid service was also excellent. We stayed at the Excelsior Planet for a week from 25th February. Lovely room with fab views of the Matterhorn - or Monte Cervino. The 4 course evening meal was exceptional every night. Very high quality , and delicious. Almost too good...., and the huge table of various gateaux and tarts, etc was also too good to resist. The wine list is extensive, and the Sommelier, ( son of the owner) gave excellent suggestions. The service was friendly and highly professional. Well, what can I add that hasn’t already been said? Not much… so I’ll endorse the comments already made…. As the reviewer below mentioned, on arrival it was great to get off the coach in the town car park to be met by the hotel courtesy bus –all other holiday makers were left in the cold waiting for their instructions! We arrived at the bus park where most others had to carry their luggage to their hotel our mini bus was waiting to take us up to the Excelsior Planet. The driver took our cases all the way up to our room while we checked in. The staff could not have been more helpful. We are a family of 3 and have just returned from staying at the Excelsior Planet in Cervinia for the New Year. The weather wasn't brilliant, very windy, so the Zermatt links were often closed. However, the hotel more than made up for this. I stayed at the Excelsior Planet with a group of 20 people for a week over Easter 2006. We where a total of 5 families, all with children. On the surface it is difficult to fault. The hotel was re-furbished recently. The rooms are well appointed and very clean. The reception and bar area bright and modern. The lounge is comfortable with a nice wood fire and comfortable sofa's. This was our first time in Cervinia which we were visiting for a 7 day skiing holiday. Unfortunately due to delays, we did not arrive at the hotel until 10.00pm. The staff were all aware that we had been delayed and made us very welcome. Following a quick check-in, we were taken straight to the dining room (which is usually open between 7.30 and 9.30pm) to find the staff were still waiting for us. This was an excellent hotel, with fantastic food and staff. We did have a junior suite with a balcony and whilst the room decor was not quite 21st century it was a fantastic view. I would recommend it to anyone. The skiing is fantastic at Cervinia and combined with this hotel it makes a dream holiday.
