Sol Sun Beach

We have been going to Tenerife for many years and have booked privately many times. We booked this apt due to the glowing advertisemnet, the location and for an extra bit of quality.

In brief - the apartment was advertised as a 1 bedroom, calm, comfortable, newly refurbished apt with a big terrace and a sea view. Expecting at least 4 star and paying 480 EUR for 7 nights we were horribly disappointed upon arrival.

The apt was in fact a studio, did not have the facilities and luxeries it advertised and the 'large' terrace was a disgrace with filthy furniture and peeling paint and masonary!

It smelt damp and musty, despite having just been cleaned by the owner's relative. There were cracks in the tiles, and no storage for basic cleaning items such as the hoover, mop & bucket etc so they were just left in corners of the small living/kitchen area and bathroom. I have to say my garage is bigger than this apt and smells better!

The sea view was non existant and there wasn't anything as basic as a kettle in there, although I did find an iron on top of a wardrobe!

We stayed 1 night but I couldn't stand the musty smell so we moved out and booked alternative arrangements the next day. We contacted the owner to tell him it was unsatisfactory and asked for a refund less 1 night or at least the cover of our cost for new accomodation (300 EUR).

Owner refused point blank!

This apartment is Home 28824 on Holidaylettings.co.uk - avoid it at all costs because in my opinion the owner has totally mis-represented the facilities and quality of the apt. I accept that 'what you pay for is what you get' but for 480 EUR I would expect a lot more than something we don't want to live in for a week!

I also need to say that we have informed Holidaylettings.co.uk of this misrepresentation of a property and that it is the owner who is responsible for this, not the site. I have used Holidaylettings for many years and will continue to do so. But next time I will do my homework and make an informed choice much more carefully in the future!

rented a private apartment first time doing this. When arrived the apartment was spotless, right next to the pool,complex very very clean. Entertainment at night excellent, food excellent,apartments situated right in the centre of everything. Airport only 10 mins away. Resort really nice will definetly be going back next year. Locals very friendly. Los Cristionas only 5mins in a taxi 10 euros, very nice resort. Kids didn't want to come home.Can't wait for next year. Restaurants in the resort very nice espically the chinese across from the apartments, Loch ness on the front very nice as well.

arrived 3.00am to prison cell block A awfull were caged in and notice to keep bar in patio door! was moved to c block next afternnoon so wasted 1 day of 7 day holiday. the 2nd room was better view but room was awful broken floor tiles, broken wardrobes cracked coffee table patio door handle hanging off filthy! as for cockroaches they were everywhere! luckly we didnt eat there but a pidgen dropped some bread on patio when we came back that night there were 16 cockroaches on it! the ants were a pleasent supprise though!. the maids were shouting at each other every morning at 8.00am (dont know what they did because room was filthy) this was rated as a 4 star! i would rate it 2 to pushing 3 only because of the location this hotel needs total revamp and exterminating!!!

Having read the reviews about A block our hearts sank when we saw our room number - nevertheless we gave it a try. Other people were right - you have to go down at least 6 flights of stairs and end up in the basement level. Your room does have a patio but it looks directly onto the beach promenade where people walk past at all times of the day.

We managed to move after one night.

After that we had a lovely time. Our new room on block C was well appointed. It was very clean but basic. The pool area we thought was great as lots of sun loungers are available and are spread out over a very large sun terrace. The staff were helpful and spoke very good english.

The best part of the Sol Sun Beach is it's loation - right by the beach and promenade - so easy access to lots of amenities. There are lots of nice restuarants nearby so explore!

I booked a privately rented apt on the 1st floor for my parents for Xmas / New year, as they arrived in the early hours of the morning they didn't inspect it until they woke up. The list of complaints are endless, so briefly...

1. apt filthy

2. 3 broken sun-beds on patio

3. not a 1 bedroom, but a studio

4. the bed settee had 3 broken slats

5. a heavy marble breakfast bar had been GLUED to the wall with a 1" slat of wood!! which later collapsed.

My parents paid £1100 just for the apt and I booked privately because I thought they would be getting something a bit extra for the price they had paid and also when I read the reviews about Sun Beach a lot of them said that the lower apts were like being in a dungeon.

The only saving grace that the apts have is that the pool area is fantastic and the staff are helpful and friendly, otherwise this apt would be un-rated.

We have been going to Tenerife for 15 years and normally stop in Las Americas, so it was a pleasant surprise to be in Fanabe, the area is lovely with many excellent bars and restaurants and is a lot quieter. Try the Wigan Pier 5 mins away for excellent home cooked food and pleasant staff.

It hasn't put me off going to Tenerife as we love it, but I will book more wisely in future.

I stayed in this hotel in 2006 and would almost definetly go back. The area was classed as Playa De Las Americas but was quite a bit away which was good as when we went into the centre, we didn't like it. The area in which we were staying was really clean, although people outside restuarants were very pestering, if they has seen you come out another restuarant they would still try and get you to come into theirs. There were plenty of shops and restuarants nearby. The beach was also very close and had beach bars which were also really handy. I reall enjoyed staying at this hotel and recommend it to anyone.

Booked through Flyglobespan. Checked into a room which can best be described as a cockroach infested dungeon! The patio(below road level) doors wouldn't lock, cupboard doors hanging off. 2 moves later we got an ok room until the roaches found us and started a nightly assault which our children did start to find amusing, wife didn't! Pool area was in dire need of maintenance, lots of broken/loose tiles.

plus points were location and sunbathing areas. but overall we will never stay there again

We booked the hotel quite happily having seen reference to 4* and high ratings from other holidaymakers.

Sadly, the reality is not so. I can guess the Sol Sun beach apartments were excellent in the eighties, but there are problems with the facilities.

The apartments are very tired and in need of refurbishment. If you do not like cockroach, then please be careful. The hotel does manage the problem of cockroach well. But little ones do appear at night and disappear behind old fascias in bathrooms and kitchens.

Our fridge was rusty. Clean- as was everything- just rusty.

The pool area is very nice, but there are some repairs that need to be completed to make the paths safe as they are broken and our kids did trip over them and hurt their toes. The staff are excellent and the hotel does run efficiently.

I wanted to write this to balance peoples expectations. The accommodation is not dreadful. It is just not 4* or rated as an 8 or 9, in my opinion.

The first room we had was a "dungeon", being below ground and very dark. A lot of the rooms are below ground level and not above the pool as it appears in the pictures,

The food in the resort was OK, nothing outstanding.

At the time of year we went we were constantly pestered to have hair braids and to "eat" in our restaurant - not really experienced this before and found it off putting.

Don't think this is an ideal venue- but better than others apparently where cockroach is a common inhabitant.

We were a party of two adults and two children so booked a one bed apartment. When we arrived late on the first night we were put into a studio ie bedroom, lounge and kitchen in one room with a view of the road - there was no cot for our little one (as booked) and the balcony was high, too high for a two year old. We complained and were moved the next day to a nice one bed apartment on a lower floor, however, whilst the general cleanliness was good, the fridge was rusting badly and the door wouldn't close, the wardrobes in the bedroom had sliding doors but wouldn't open/close. Generally both rooms were very tired but the standard of clenliness/maid service was very high. The best thing about this place is the roof top terraces and pool area, the kids loved it and it was excellent with plenty of sunbeds and a good poolside bar, the views of the sea are great and it's a great place to relax as you can always find a quiet spot. The clientelle were nearly exclusively Dutch who we found really nice.

We opted for breakfast with our apartment which was a good option, the service was great, there was a varied selection and the standard of cleanliness high. Overall we had a great family holiday, the location is great for the beach, restaurants etc as there are no roads to cross and everything is walking distance, on the down side the resort is hardly picturesque and despite high levels of cleanliness and friendly staff, the standard of accommodation lets it down. We would go back but it would have to be a bargain.

We have just got back from these apts and they fantastic we had a sea view and the size of the apt was very spacious the only thing is that they do not have aircon so you have to rent a fan there is a ceiling fan in the lounge but nothing in the bedroom. they are a fantastic location just a stones throw from the beach, bars and restaurants the staff were really friendly and very helpful and the maid service was excellent. they a lovely big pool if you prefer other than the beach plenty of beds and lots of space
