The only positive point I could make about this hotel/hostel is the size of the rooms (as long as you get an end room). Very spacious. Other than that there is nothing that would bring me back to Hotel Polyusi. Staff were very ignorant, especially senior management, cleaners were thieves and the food I would not give to my dog. During our three week stay our room was cleaned 4 times and bed linen changed twice. You do not receive clean towels daily. After some of our items were stolen nothing was done to help retrieve them, except from the smirks from barstaff and a tiff with the cleaners. Would highly recommend not staying in this hotel.

We went to this hotel 10 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We don't know what has happened but it is dark, dirty, uncared for and uncaring.
Room allocations were muddled or non-existent. Staff were rude and some facilities dangerous.
Breakfast is depressing and unless you are a smoker, the smell of smoke is bad in the air conditioned bar.
Sunny Beach is becoming an 18- 30s resort. The airport can't cope. If the resort gets any bigger, which it will, steer clear.

I was aprehensive about staying in this hotel as I had read a lot of bad reviews. However me and my partner both had a very enjoyable 2 week stay. I must disagree with the comment made about noise between 11pm and 5am as when we stayed here the outside entertianment (bars, lighting etc) was all turned off at 11pm. The bar inside the hotel stayed open all night but we were right above it and never heard any noise. We were only woken by noise on one night when new people had just arrived, but the staff did ask them to be quiet. Our towels and bedding were changed regularly, and we were also given new toilet roll every day. I heard some people complaining that this hadn't happened for them during their stay, but for most people it had. From what I heard from other guests, the air con was switched off during the day. We didn't use our air con as our room was shaded so we were lucky enough not to need it. My only criticism of the hotel was that at our welcome meeting we were told that to book our room untill midnight on our last day would cost 60 lev, and if we chose not to their were 2 courtesy rooms we could use for 30 minutes. We chose to save 60 lev only to be informed the price was actually 110. We weren't very happy but then decided we would spend the day by the pool, leaving our suitcases in reception which a lot of people did, and use the courtesy room to freshen up around 6ish. However when my partner asked about the courtesy room we were told that the hotel didn't have any. We don't know if this was a miscommunication on the tour operators part or not. Apart from this we had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is located in a great place, no more than a 5 minute walk from the centre, but not too close too be too noisy.

The Hotel Polyusi was excellent. We were given a suite with climate control, fridge and TV. The room was cleaned daily and the cleaners only cleaned when you vacated the room. Generally the hotel was very clean including the bars and swimming pools. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast offered a good choice including Bulgarian hot breads. As for the resort I was shocked at how much it has deteriorated having visited it several times over the last 22 years. Prices have risen enormously but general service has not. Mainly it is lack of investment in the infrastrusture. There is no drains so when it rains the rods turn into lakes. Everything looks shabby with an uncontrolled spread of stalls on the front selling overpriced junk which were all the same. There are no public open spaces let alone green parks. Everything is geared to fleecing the tourist for as little investment as possible. It makes Blackpool look like a sophisticated destination. There is a profound lack of public transport. Tourists are crowded onto buses especially to Nessabur nearby. What was once a showpiece Communist resort is now given over to unrestrained capitalism at its very worst. The Bulgarian Tourist Authorities need a wake up call or people will stop going which is a shame as basically Bulgaria is a lovely country with nice people.

Had read a few negative reports about this hotel but was pleasantly surprised. We had booked 2x 1 bed apts for a group of 6, a family of 4 and my daughter and myself. We ended up with a 2 bed and a 1 bed next door to each other which instantly solved the problem of sleeping arrangements.
Facilities for self-catering were poor, a kettle, fridge and microwave; no hob or toaster so ate out all the time.
The apartments were lovely; cleaned daily with fresh towels and bedding 2 or 3 times a week.
There are three nice pools, any towels left unattended on the sunbeds for a long time were removed.
The food in the various restaurants was good but more expensive than elsewhere, especially the Indian.
The staff were lovely.
The entertainment was dire! A Marguerita Pragatan wannabe was the main entertainment. Bingo was good, especially if you win (1 Lev per ticket and around 100 Levs for a full house!)
Everywhere on the promenade has BOGOF on local spirits & cocktails until about midnight.
Don't go on the tour to the "Gypsy" market if you're looking for souvenirs. It's all lurid coloured, fake tracksuits, underwear and shoes. The best place is old Nessebar. It costs 1 Lev on the bus which comes about every 15mins.
Good places to eat are The Fat Cat (make sure you're hungry), Tanya (at the end of the alleyway under the water slide), Oleander House (although service was a bit slow) and The Red Lion.
The hotel is situated close to all amenities; the beach, the resort centre and the water park.
Altogether a brilliant holiday but not as cheap as it apparently used to be.
