After just getting back from a week at Club Aegean, I must say things seem to have changed for the better. We stayed there last year and what an improvement 100% better. Although the weather was not good - lots of rain apparently worse for 36 yrs but I cant hold that against them. Of course the pools where not filled but who would want to swim with the weather been so lousy. We were meet at resort by Artemis Travel Rep - which was totally different from last year. We where shown to the apartment and she briefly explained about the weather but there were lots of trips we can book etc. All I can say is welldone - definetley booking again. I think all those that came out last year and had bad reviews should give it another go after all it was a new complex and teething problems where bound to occur.
Poor location
Totally agree with Criticalglasgow. This "hotel" is basically just apartments rented out by their owners through this group. It is located too far from the beach if you want to be near the sea. For self-catering I found a really good villa at golden beach which is only a few hundred metres from the sea and will always use this one in the future
Superb Accommodation
Reading the above reviews on Club Aegean, I would just like to add my thoughts on my trip in October 2008. Upon arrival at Bodrum Airport I was transferred with ease, and allocated and shown my apartment even though it was 4am. The 2 bedroom apartment was very spacious, clean and all the appliances you would need for a weeks self catering. I was met the following day by a representative, who explained everything about the area and the local Apollo Temple and historical attractions, which was one of the main reasons for visiting. I found all the staff, especially the bar staff to be very helpful and polite and could rely on them, even for arranging taxis and transport. The courtesy bus I found very useful and was perfect for reaching Altinkum with the shops, bars, restaurants etc, of which I used daily. The restaurant and food was superb, prompt service too. The shop on site was also very good, and always had what I needed. The pools were very clean. As a single traveller I found that a restaurant I visited in Altinkum would return you by car if you had a meal, something I found great. I will definitely return to Club Aegean and stay for longer as there were a lot of historical trips that I didn't have the time to see. I would recommend Club Aegean highly for single travellers and families alike for a comfortable, affordable and relaxing break.
OK but won't go back.
I went to this propert in August 08 but as I'm looking over Trip Advisor for my impending trip to Orlando I felt compelled to write a small review. The comments previosu to this are absolutely correct. They are stuck between the privately owned apartment business and renting out apartments. The apartments are nice but they are new. Next year they will be shabby. The shuttle bus hacked me off on a number of occasions. I will not repeat what my partner said when we got outside only to see it go five minutes early because the bus driver couldn't be bothered waiting. This hotel is nowhere near five star and now it's got a few ratings on here i expect the bookings to go right down. Transport was expensive. The 50 minute walk in the last review was no exaggeration. We clocked an hour a couple of times. The Dolmus was sporadic to say the least. Altinkum itself was ok. Will probably try a different part of Turkey next time as the trip to and from Bodrum was tortuous.
5 star turkish building site !
We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Club Aegean, all we can say is never again! This complex is advertised as 5 star and being located in the green valley area of Altinkum, there is nothing green about it! It is located on what can only be described as a building site, there isn't a road, one side is a muddy dirt track the other is rubble, complete with rubbish. Club Aegean is miles away from the beach and main resort, it took us approximately 50 minutes to walk (downhill) and we are fortunately a couple of fit 30 year olds, anyone with walking difficulties, prams etc would have problems as at least half of the walk is on rubble/dirt tracks. There is a courtesy bus which is advertised as running hourly throughout the day however in reality in only runs twice and depending on what time the driver thinks it is it leaves without you. If you decide to take a taxi make sure you take extra spending money as there is a flat rate now of YTL15 (£7.50) one way. If you like sunbathing all day you need to head to the beach as the swimming pools are situated badly so you do not get much sun and they are extremely cold. The apartment itself is nice and has all the home comforts, but if you expect it to be cleaned, towels changed etc think again. Ours was never cleaned during our stay. The rep who lives on site is totally unhelpful and the sports bar is certainly not 5 star either. We did ask if they would show the Grand Prix and they didn't even know what we were talking about. The only people that seem to be positive about Club Aegean are the owners who have had the misfortune of buying there. Maybe in 5 years time it will be okay if you like hiking!
Great restaurant!
We stayed at the Club Aegean from 29/09/08-6/10/08. These are privatley owned appartments that are rented out. The appartment itself was lovely, but the complex is uncared for, not cleaned properly, and will soon go down hill rapidly! We had a few issues: The jacuzzi was never hot The pools are small and feezing There seemed to be some staff and cleaning issues We were kept awake by a mosquito door that banged and couldn't be closed There was never anyone to serve at the pool bar The generator came on a few times, this was extremely noisy at night The shop didn't have any bread and it was quite a walk to find a shop that sold essentials Club Aegean is on what I can only describe as a building site, there isn't a road and there is rubble and rubbish evrywhere! The beach is at least a 45 minute walk down hill, there is a free maxi tour courtesy bus that runs morning, lunchtime and evening (the last one is at 6pm). You can get a Dolmus at the end of the road, they run frequently and are cheap. Most restaurants in Altinkum offer a free pick up and drop service if you eat there, this is a great idea we ate @ Big Ben a few times, the food and service is fantastic. Also try the Mendosa Village (just up the road from the Club Aegean) a great place to eat and relax!! The beach would be lovely if it wasn't covered in cigarrette ends! The sea was beautiful, shallow and warm to swim in. In all we did enjoy our holiday because of the Turkish people that we met, the weather was warm and the food fantastic! Be aware there are alot of stray very friendly dogs and cats - the dogs seem healthy enough the cats not so (upsetting if you are an animal lover).
beachwalk
In our recent visit to Turkey we stayed at the Club Aegean which is rated 5star The Hotel and furnishings were very nice and the Hotel staff were very friendly and helpfull. On the webb site it is stated that the Hotel is 0.6 of a mile from the beach which in my opinion is walkable distance, it is more like 2.5 mile from the beach, restaurants and pubs this meant we had to spend money on Taxis back to the hotel each night. Staff at the hotel told us that restaurants are willing to give a free car service to and from there businness if you plan to have a meal with them which a lot of the restaurants are willing to pick you up if you phone them but if after your meal you did not want to go straight back to your Hotel and left the restaurant we are not sure if they would take you back to the hotel. We took a few restaurants up on there offer and they all picked up at the stated time and we never had a bad meal, although it is daunting phoning restaurants not knowing what the food is going to be like. We tried Big Bens, Pinochios and Vista all of which served very good meals, but we spent 15 Lyra a night on the taxi back to our Hotel because after leaving the restaurant we did not like to go back and ask for a lift back to the hotel as they had already made us a saving of 15 Lyra in picking us up. The Hotel did have a courtesy bus the last one being at 6 .15pm sometimes leaving earlier than this, but that was only to their other Hotel Aegean Park which was 0.6 of a mile from the beach if you knew which way to walk. Overall we had a great holiday but had not budgeted for the extra money on taxi's Also we hired a car from the airport to the hotel and were told the Hotel was well sign posted only to find no signposts at all and no name on the Hotel. After searching Altinkham for a while we had to hire a taxi to go to the hotel and we followed, we would not have found the Hotel otherwise.
Not even close to 5 star
My husband and I are just back from Club Aegean and won't return. The apartments are nice and clean just now because they're new (Sept 08), but they aren't maintained so they won't stay like that. - The balcony railing have been 'put' in place, but not screwed down so the railings can be lifted out (hope somebody's kids don't find this one out). - The balcony door could be opened from either side but could not be locked so the apartment could not be secured. The Aegean Resorts DVD in the apartment states that each unit has a safety box – ours didn't! - The shower flooded the floor every time it was used. - Although we were told there would be a twice-weekly maid service we weren't cleaned in a fortnight, and believe me I tried – tomorrow never came. There is a washing machine so we were able to wash towels ourselves, but it's much harder to wash bedding as there really isn't anywhere to put it except for down the side of the building to hang over the balcony below. Besides, I don't go on holiday to wash and I've stayed in 2 start apartments previously which were cleaned every day! There's no brush to sweep the floor which became increasingly slippery with sand each time we returned from the beach. We reported all of these several times (including listing them in writing on the inventory which, by the way isn't accurate) and nobody cares – hence I don't think the 'clean' appearance will last long. The courtesy bus only runs three times a day and also picks up from other Aegean properties. So, if the very small bus is full they won't take you. Some of the helpful information given says there the dolmus (local bus) which runs along the road at the top of the hill every 15 mins – it doesn't, it runs once per hour and it took us days to figure out what time it ran. The onsite rep (who really just wants you to leave her alone) told us to "ask the driver for Club Aegean on the way back" saying "they all know where we are". Trust me, that's rubbish – it's a new build and nobody has heard of it yet. Here's some factual info - The dolmus which runs along the road above Club Aegean goes past at approximately quarter past the hour. On the way back look for the No 40 going to Sag-Tur – it leaves Dolphin Square at approximately 7 minutes past the hour. It can be very busy, so if you want a seat it is worth walking along to the back of the shopping centre and getting the bus there. The last bus at night goes at approximately 10.07pm. On the way back ask for Asem Village and, about 20 minutes later, when you see the Asem Group building you should get off at the top of that hill. You can't miss your stop, the apartments to your right look like Cinderella's castle. - If you cross the above road and go down the road opposite (to the right) and walk for ten minutes you will come to a main road where the buses run every 5-10 minutes. On the way back get on any but going to Mavisher or the Apollo Temple. Again, it'll take approx 20 minutes and you get off just after the Bim store (by the garages). It'll cost 1.25 YTL each (which for two people adds up to £50-60 in travel if you're going the beach during the day and the resort at night), but it’s a lot better than paying for taxis. We love Altinkum (great beach), but definitely won't be going back to a shoddily built Aegean Property.
Booker Beware- not a 5 star Hotel
My wife and I booked a week at this accommodation, by doing a bed and breakfast search on the internet and I can only say one phrase BOOKER BEWARE!! As there is no way on earth that this is 5 star. In what 5 star accommodation do you see the following: 1. Rooms not cleaned throughout your stay (rep says this is correct) 2. No clean bed linen throughout your stay 3. No clean towels throughout your stay 4. You are only allowed one choice from the breakfast menu 5. You have to buy your own toilet rolls Accomodation This is obviously a complex of owned apartments, where they lease them back to Club Aegean, who then let them out. The apartments are very good and have all the facilities you would need if you owned them or went there on a self catering basis. There is no reception at this place, there is only a bar by the lower pool and the bar staff have the keys to show you to your allotted apartment, consequently there is no safe deposit box facility. The complex has two small pools, the top one having some sun for around 4 hours, until it goes behind the building. Location The Club Aegean is situated about 4 kilometers outside of Altinkum and is not well serviced by the local buses (Dolmus) as it is on a back road, therefore there is only a Dolmus about every 45 minutes or so. If you want to use the more frequent Dolmus you need to walk to a main road, which is about a mile away. You could however use the local taxi’s however this year they have turned their meters off and charge a flat rate of 15 lira for any journey within Altinkum, which at the current exchange rate is £7.50 (very expensive) Food Breakfast at the Club Aegean is a choice from a café style menu. You can have tea or coffee or orange juice, then you can choose from about 8 selections, which include a full English breakfast, Turkish breakfast and Cornflakes, but as I previously mentioned don’t try to order Cornflakes and a breakfast as this is frowned on. The Club Aegean also offers evening meals, which whilst basic are not that bad. Overall As I mentioned earlier there is absolutely no way whatsoever that this is a 5 star accommodation and based on the remote location I would definitely not go back to this place.
Great appartment shame about the location (4km from beach/town center)
We stayed in this hotel for 1 week at the end of August 2008. When we finally got to the hotel / apartment block at around 9pm. (from landing it took us 4 hours to get to the hotel, first we had to wait until another plane landed before the transfer bus set off, then we had the hour and half trip to Didim, then we had at least half hour dropping off everyone else first as or hotel was the last drop off). We were met at the reception and given a welcome pack and the keys to our room. We were shown to our block where there was a lift. However our apartment wasn't on the same 'level' as the lift so the option was to take the lift to the 3rd 'floor' and walk down one set of steps. or just walk up 2-3 set of steps rather than use the lift. This wasn't a problem for us but if stairs are for you i would request a room on the same level as the lift. APPARTMENT: The apartment was very nice and could tell it was brand new (apparently the hotel had only been open 4 months). In the main living area was dining table and chairs, 2 sofas, flat screen tv, dvd player. Ironing board, iron and clothes hanger. The kitchen area included fridge freezer, washing machine, gas cooker, sink, glasses, mugs, cutlery etc. The balcony has a sliding door with fly screen. There is some patio furniture but the balcony is a bit narrow far a family to sit comfortly around the table. The master bed room had a big double bed, dresser with mirror, bedside tables, lamps and wardrobe. The secondary bed room had a 2 single beds, dresser, bedside table, lamp and a wardrobe. On all of the beds were fresh white towels. The bathroom has a big powerful shower which easily gave hot or cold water as required. We never had an occasion were the hot water ran out. Sink with mirror etc. The main living area and the master bedroom both had separate aircon. The secondary bedroom didn't have any aircon. The aircon was at no extra cost. Everything we required was provided in the apartment apart from a hair dryer (which of course we forgot to bring) Being new the apartments did have some teething problems. The lift broke one evening but was fixed again by the next morning. STAFF: The staff were very friendly with any requests we had. Like calling us a taxi. FACILITIES: Spa on site - This is at extra cost for Turkish baths etc. Gym 2 small pools - The pools were small and were quite enclosed so there was a lot of shade which wasn't ideal if you wanted to sun bathe. Snooker table Restaurant - We ate here once and the food was very nice and reasonably priced LOCATION: No this was the major draw back. When we booked the site we used listed it as 1.5km from the beach. This is rubbish. It is more like 5km. With it being in the location it is, you couldn't walk to the town/beach. We had to rely on courtesy busses and taxi's to get about. There was building works opposite the hotel. However all building is apparently suspended for 3 months during peak season due to dust. While we were there no one was working on site and a night it was really quite allowing a good nights sleep. OTHER These are just some points to note but didn't effect my review of the hotel We found the day trips very good value for money (Maxi tours) and recommend you try them. (mud baths, jeep safari, waterpark) A lot of the restaurants give free taxi services so will pick you up and take you back to your hotel. We ate at a very nice restaurant (must remember the name, but it has a fountain in the main court yard) and they were happy to take us back. It was so good we went back again. Imported spirits are expensive so be careful what you order as they don't just swap to a local brand like other destinations I’ve been to. There seems to be a lot of stay dogs and cats about. Bodrum airport- our flight was delayed so we were stuck at Bodrum airport for 2 hours. The airport is ridiculously expensive £5 for ONE can of coke!!. This in no way reflects the rest of turkey. There are no food/ liquid restriction at Bodrum like the UK so pack food and drink in your hand luggage before you get to the airport. Due to the tourist boom there is a lot of building sites all over Didim. OVERALL: It was a great holiday in a good apartment. If it had been only a mile from the town/beach like we were told it would of been near on perfect.
