Harbour Club Apartments Reviews
" The Harbour Club - Fawlty Towers "
Submitted By: Ann144We flew from London Gatwick and arrived an hour late at Tenerife. We had pre-ordered the mini bus from the apartments, 30 euro’s for both of us, which was cheaper than a taxi, and we thought this was a good service. After a couple of other drop offs in Los Gigantes we arrived at The Harbour Club. For anyone else who is due to stay here you have to pay 30 euro’s for electric and 15 euro’s to use the safe for the week which we thought was expensive. You are given a pool towel each for the week and a remote control for the TV and lights and then told which apartment you are in. Anyway we headed to our apartment, which was no. 30, and luckily in the 1st phase. (2nd phase is over the road and approx 100 steps up to the apartments!). We were down for the 2nd phase but as they were not fully booked gave us the 1st phase. To be honest I would have refused the 2nd phase. The outside of the apartment was quite nice, a small terrace of sorts, with a plastic table and 4 chairs. When we walked in we were both quite shocked, as it was nowhere near the standard that we have in Florida. It was clean but so dated, dark and not at all welcoming. The sofa was ok but was worn and uncomfortable, we had an iron table and chairs which meant when people used them above us in the other apartments you could hear them scraping on the floors, not ideal to have. All the flooring is tiled and is shabby, cracked and looked dirty. The kitchen is quite well equipped but again very very dated with odd tiles that didn't match anything else. The bathroom was the worst. Large water stains on the floor, old fashioned sink and bath that had seen better days. The bedroom was ok but had huge dark brown wardrobes that just made the room look so depressing. Alot of paintwork was chipped and marked throughout the apartment. It really does need a total overhaul. The hot water was a joke. We had to wait 2 hours in between showers for the water to heat up and we did complain but when the maintenance guy came he couldnt speak english so we have no idea what he did but it made no difference. The toaster blew up and they came very quick to replace it so that is one good point.
The staff were friendly and helpful but I feel as if the whole place lets them down.
We would return to Los Gigantes but not to The Harbour Club until it has been given a full refurbishment.
Advice: Beautiful Place, very hilly, friendly
Activities: Harbour Lites - Marina
Good for: Beach

Submitted By: Mrs J ConstantineWe had booked on the mini-bus transfer via the Harbour Club to Los Gigantes which saved us some Euros (and we used this service to take us back to the airport too) we were very tired from a long day having had a delay at Gatwick. As we got off the bus the Reception Manager, Tracy, was outside the Reception and greeted us straight away. She was extremely helpful, and having told us we were in Phase 2 which is very much uphill, she towed our largest case up there, took us into the apartment and showed us around and made sure we were ok before she left.
The apartment was very nice and clean and had everything we needed in it, air conditioning would have been nice, but the bedroom had a ceiling fan in it which we used but only on the lower setting as on the higher ones it tended to wobble about quite a bit so we didn't fancy sleeping under it like that. Other than that no problems with the apartment. Our terrace was great, very large, four sunbeds and chairs with table and parasol, and the view was fabulous which ever way you turned. The maid service was good, we had clean bedding and towels 3 times during our week, and we were supplied with yellow towels to keep for the week for visits to the pool.
The pool area is immaculate, there were plenty of sunbeds, the pool was very clean and has hand rails round it, which I found very useful as I'm not a good swimmer. I've found that not many resorts have handrails on their pools. The terrace and bar area was also kept very clean and the bar staff are very friendly and give a really good service. There are very reasonably priced lunch meals served until 5.30 p.m. and the toasties are really nice, good chips too. We didn't use the Harbour Club restaurant as we walked into the town in the evening (only 5 - 10 mins depending how far you wanted to go) but it looked very nice with good menus.
I can't praise the reception staff too much, they were really friendly, helpful and would do anything they could to give any advice needed re. day trips, taxis etc., in fact the nicest bunch of reception staff I have come across in the last 8 years.
Los Gigantes is now my favourite place in Tenerife, small but very lovely with plenty of restaurants and bars, we really enjoyed La Terrazza down at the harbour. We did have a day on the beach, which is quite small and has black sand which we don't like too much, but it didn't spoil the day. A really relaxing place.
I very much intend to visit again, but be aware that this area is very hilly, and being in Phase 2, we had 98 steps to go up to reach our apartment, we did these in stages finding a resting place sitting on the wall and looking at the view, until we were ready to make the final climb.
One last thing. As I mentioned previously, we had booked the min-bus transfer service to return to the Airport for our 3.30 p.m. flight. We should have been picked up at 12.00 pm but at 12.15 I had to ask reception to check out where the bus was as it hadn't arrived. We were eventually collected at 12.35 and there were two further couples to be picked up from other resorts who should also have been around a 12.00 pm pick-up. The driver was very apologetic, but said he was only told about us at 12.15, so we were all late getting to the airport - which is approx 50 mins away, and in our case we were on the end of a very long queue, last to get checked in and lucky to get a seat together on the return journey. So, if you book the bus make sure you're on an early enough collection and chase them up if the bus is late. This is an independent contractor although booked through the club.
Apart from that little hiccup, a really great place to stay.

Submitted By: Mrs C DownsOn arriving at the resort, we were met by reception, Tracey, she couldn't have been nicer, and we were made to feel very welcome. She showed us to our apartment, and gave us all the details about opening times and excursions.
The apartment was small but more than adequate. Everything that you needed was there. Tracey even got us another fan for the room as it was so hot at night. We had a very large balcony with sunloungers and we often lay there sunbathing until 9pm at night. The views over the sea were fantastic.
We were in Phase 2, so there were a few steps to climb to get there, but the view made it worthwhile. The apartments were spotless and cleaned nearly every day. The sheets were also changed 3 times per week.
The pool was immaculate, as was the pool bar. The staff were all very friendly. The bar staff came down and took orders for drinks & food and brought them back down for you.
The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I tried the tapas at lunchtime and they were delicious. The on-site restaurant was also very good and again the staff were very friendly.
We were given pool towels on arrival which you could keep for a week. If you wanted to change them before the week was out, it only cost you 1euro per towel, which was great!
The only complaint about the pool was - selfish people putting towels on loungers in the morning and not appearing until the afternoon! This was despite them being asked not to do this. Our second week was very busy and it was sometimes difficult to get sun loungers. It was infuriating to have to share beds while all these other beds were empty.
The only other complaint was not being aware of the 30euro charge for the electric; we wish we had known this before we went.
Other facilities were the laundry room - 3euros for 2 hours. The courtesy room - 3euros for an hour was a godsend. There was even a library you could borrow books from - great as I ran out of books.
The resort - we were a bit wary as we had heard that it was very quiet, but this proved to be untrue. Everything was in walking distance. As we had our 15year old son and his 14year old friend with us it was ideal as they could go for a wander and we knew that they were never very far away.
There were loads of bars and restaurants to choose from. Our favourites were Monique’s bar at the harbour, hello Carlos, and the Highland Paddy 1, hello Mass, they were very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The Highland Paddy 3 was also very good for entertainment. We also enjoyed Richardsons pub and The Green Corner. The Wine Bar & Terrace up the road from the Harbour Club was also a great place to go to.
There were loads of supermarkets nearby, including the one at the top of Cardiac Hill - a long walk but worth it. It was great coming back down!
The best market was at Loc Cristianos- it was huge. Beware of all the touts though, lots of them with scratch cards.
All in all, it was a fantastic holiday and we will definitely go back.

Submitted By: Mr M MasinaLos Gigantes is a quiet town on the west side of the island of Tenerife, about 25 miles from the frantic resorts such as Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.
If you are looking for a week of relaxation, peace and quiet, Los Gigantes is the place for you.
The Harbour Club is right in the middle of town, close to all the amenities; be aware that this is a hilly village so if you're travelling with elderly it may not be recommended unless you rent a car.
The apartment we were given was just great: it had a suggestive sea view with relaxing waves crashing on the cliffs in the distance. It was spread out on 2 floors and had both a large balcony and a smaller terrace on the first floor. The apartment was equipped with everything: from microwave oven to kettle, from iron and ironing board to sandwich maker!
The TV was the only thing I didn't like as it was small and had only few channels working.
Room service was good and they came and clean the room for us almost every day. Staff was very friendly and helpful and bar prices were also good.
All in all we had a great week there and would definitely go back! If you are going, I'd advise you to rent a car and explore the island as it has so much to offer. Los Gigantes is very small and the beach can be a bit disappointing but if you travel around a bit you'll find amazing corners!

Submitted By: Mrs J AshfieldAll our holidays at The Harbour Club have been good holidays, but we do always stay in Phase 1.
The resort staff are friendly and welcoming and have always done their best to make our holiday special, the standard of the resort is high and it is kept in an immaculate condition.
The new terrace bar is fabulous with superb views and sunsets, the food is good, the evening entertainment is somewhat hit and miss, but the late noisy nights have stopped.
The swimming pool is always warm and fresh water which is very important to me.
All in all Los Gigantes is a lovely place to stay, obviously quieter than the resorts in the south, so there may not be enough night life for younger people, plenty of good eating places with varied prices.
The beach is small and may not suit families with young children wanting a beach holiday, but there is a lovely lido and also a good sports complex.
Due to the one-way system in & out of Ls Gigantes it is a safe resort with many familiar faces each time you visit.
A great place to have a holiday.
" This was our second destination on a... "
Submitted By: Mrs A RobinsonThe first night at Golf Del Sur at our chosen destination directly under the flight path!
The two bed accommodation we were allocated was in phase! Looking straight into apt across the way, the bathroom stunk, [sorry no other word to explain it] and the second bedroom was the size of a mobile home bedroom.
We had our thirteen year old daughter and friend with us and had no option but to take the smaller room.
Situated right on the road, it was very noisy and to add to this there was constant machinery cutting into the cliff EVERY day from 8-6 making it a living hell...
Then at night we had the entertainment from the restaurant/bar. If we had wanted bingo and Karaoke until 12.30am each night we could have stayed at home, it was SO loud no way could you sleep before it finished.
I like a good time like the next man, but there should have been a lot more consideration to guests staying in the apartments.
I would think that even 5 years ago the resort would have been a nice place to stay, the scenery is beautiful, staff helpful but for us it was Blackpool with the sun out and very disappointing.
I am so glad to have found this site to tell others because the operator didn't want to know!
" This was our 2nd visit to the harbour... "
Submitted By: Mrs R BairdAfter a tough year moving house, and having major surgery 7 weeks prior to the holiday date, I debated cancelling but as we knew the Harbour club had everything we needed and that although hilly, everything in the village was a short walk away, we went ahead as we really needed the break. My travel insurance however stipulated that I would not be covered for anything arising from the surgery.
We arrived about midnight and were greeted by the receptionist whose actual words where "welcome to the harbour club, but I am sorry you are unfortunately staying in phase 2!! I didn’t know phase 2 existed and was horrified when I was told where it was, up the hill and then a total of 83 steps to our apartment!!! No where near the pool, restaurant, bar etc!!! When I pointed out my inability to cope with the no of steps etc, after the op ‘I got I am sorry I have a couple of empty apartments down here but I am not authorised to let you have one. You will have to talk to marketing on Monday morning!!’ (This was Friday). Fortunately she'd had the same op and after I became obviously distressed she offered to phone a taxi at their expense to take us and our cases to the apartment (this gives you some idea of what a drag it is to get there!)
When we entered the apartment my heart sank, the same care is obviously not given to phase 2 as to phase 1, it hadn’t been cleaned or aired for our arrival, there where no sheets for my daughters bed, and the welcome basket contained a couple of t bags and sachets of sugar, no milk! The doors stuck and did not have proper lock pins, the shower was wobbly and in the whole week only 2 of us managed to have lukewarm showers in succession, a third always resulted in freezing water, the balcony overlooked a cement mixer and tools, and over the week I became almost on first name terms with the half dozen or so brazen cockroaches who didn’t even bother to hide in the dark but wandered around freely in the evening!!
repeated phone calls and even cornering the marketing guy in his office had no effect, despite the receptionists comments on arrival I was repeatedly told there where no available phase 1 apartments in fact after a few attempts marketing actually refused to look me in the eye whenever we passed. the final straw for me was when it rained and we left the pool area to grab a bite to eat while it passed and made to sit the only remaining empty table which had a roof covering (the rest are under slats) we where told not to sit as it was marketing’s table and they where going to use it for a meeting! The girl from marketing pointed at the slatted roof and laughed, said it’s a design fault! No love, it’s not a design fault! Its appalling customer service!
All I can say is thank god for the Le pescador restaurant, the bamboo bar (fantastic atmosphere, great food and prices), green corner and the fab medieval night or our much needed break would have been ruined.
I apologise for the length of this post, and before I get any comments on how daft I am to go on holiday after surgery, the only reason I didn’t cancel was because we knew were we where going and what standard to expect, had we been told in advance that we would not be staying at phase 1, I would have cancelled under my holiday insurance. Having talked to a number of other owners of harbour club weeks I understand that standards have slipped considerably recently and a number of people where extremely fed up.
Ps we only once saw the bar/restaurant open in the evening once during the whole week and that was for the Sunday carvery! And the heating in the pool had obviously been turned off!!! It was freezing!!!
Los Gigantes is a wonderful place, bars and restaurants if you want them, peace and quiet if you don’t, but I would give the Harbour Club a miss until they've sorted out their problems, and with a final note to the marketing dept, if you are going to bring people out on a promotional visit....for gods sake make sure you give them a good impression!!!!

Submitted By: Miss S WellsWe ended up in a 2 bed apartment with 2 balconies & a sea view. The kitchen was fully equipped (sandwich maker, toaster & a kettle are all provided). I think it has just been recently refurbished as it looked very clean & fresh. Now for the moans! They really need to install some sort of air con. It was so hot & only the bigger bedroom had a ceiling fan that wasn't really much good. Also, that particular apartment could sleep up to 6 people. In my opinion, it was only big enough to be comfortable for 4 people. The TV didn't really pick up much. The best channels we could muster were BBC World News & The Travel Channel!
The pool & surrounding area are immaculate. The pool itself is heated I think as it was never freezing cold. No turning blue when you get in! The pool bar serves lovely food at a very reasonable price. I can also thoroughly recommend the restaurant on site. We only ate there once but it was very good.
All the staff are great. We got such a friendly welcome when we arrived which was a pleasant start to our stay. The pool bar staff are lovely & even come down to the pool side to take drinks orders.
The resort itself is small & quiet. I have been to Tenerife many times & found that this has the best scenery compared to the others. The cliffs really are awesome. The beach was a disappointment though. It's tiny!
If you want a change of scene from your own complex, I can recommend the public swimming pool called Oasis. It's very clean with lots of sunbathing areas & the most fantastic view of the cliffs & the marina. It is free if you just pop in for a drink. If you swim or use the sun loungers, it costs a mere 1.75 euro.
Restaurant wise the best ones we went to were Miranda's, The Harbour Club & the Chinese just up the road from The Harbour Club (I think it's called Peking something!). Please avoid the Paraiso Del Sol. We had an awful meal there one night & the staff weren't very friendly either! For breakfasts Ocean Drive is great. They serve proper coffee! Also CK's bistro. These are both run by English people. We went into Puerto Santiago one night (2.50 euro to get there in a taxi) and went to a lovely restaurant called Las Brasas. It nestles in between Fettuccine’s & the Chicken Shack which are also supposed to be good.
The best bar to go to if you want entertainment is the Highland Paddy. They have 2 cabaret acts on every night & we had great fun in there.
All in all this is a great resort if you just want to get away from it all & relax. There are hardly any lucky, lucky men & you don't have someone trying to force you into their bar or restaurant every few steps. It's very hilly so if you have any difficulties mobility wise, this isn't really the place for you. Nor is it if you're looking for a 'mad' holiday. It's a have a nice meal & quiet drinks kind of place. Unless you go to the Highland Paddy that is!

Submitted By: Mrs C PledgeThe accommodation at the Harbour Club was first class, the pool, Jacuzzi and surrounding areas were kept very clean, neat and tidy. Maybe the only disappointment was the evening entertainment, which although advertised did not always take place (possibly due to lack of holiday makers).
Not having been to Tenerife before we were not sure what to expect, the weather was lovely at a comfortable 21 - 25 degrees for the two weeks. There was plenty of choice of where to eat, in fact the most difficult decision was which restaurant to try each evening! We sampled Chinese, Indian, Spanish, Italian and British.
We went on several coach trips and also used the local bus service (clean buses, on time and value for money). We'll definitely be back.

Submitted By: Mrs M EsplenOur apartment had a tiny balcony with no sun at any time of the day and a view of a brick wall. To make matters worse the front door did not fit and the rain flooded in on several occasions. On the last occasion we returned from a day out to find a newspaper stuffed around the cracks in the door, which we were consequently unable to open. Reception was closed (as was regularly the case) but we eventually found a maintenance man who finally opened the door by kicking it open, whereupon we found the hall, bedroom and kitchen were flooded. He dropped a pile of towels on the floor and left.
Although we had complained on several occasions, we realised at this point we were getting nowhere with our problems and were not prepared to paddle around on slippery floors in an apartment permanently smelling of damp. We were also fearful of being unable to open the apartment door if we went out, having struggled up the 120 steps and not finding anybody to help us.
As a result we spent the last two nights of our holiday at a local hotel, at our own expense. We have made numerous telephone calls and written on several occasions to The Harbour Club, but have received no feedback whatsoever from them.
You will have to make your own judgements of course, but this was our recent experience!!

Submitted By: Mr T J D MoranInitially we were disappointed to discover a number of defects within the apartment, which we notified to the management.
To their credit they had staff call round very quickly and all but one of the defects were rectified within 24 hours - the other item was a faulty louvre window which was beyond repair and was temporarily fixed in an open position with our agreement.
The satellite television service was not properly operational however and we discovered from talking to other people that it had been that way for several months
As we have been travelling regularly to Tenerife for over 20 years, we had no surprises with the weather.
Not having been to Los Gigantes for quite some years. we were pleasantly surprised to discover that it has lost comparatively little of its charm and is a far cry from the bustling centres of Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
The resort offers a wide range of restaurants to cater for all tastes and we found the prices to be very reasonable, even compared to the overall low prices of the Canary Isles.
The major difficulty is the distance from the airport and the high cost of taxis. However the Harbour Club (and most other centres) operate inexpensive minibus services to the airport and we were very pleased with the service provided.
Overall we must recommend the staff and management at the Harbour Club for their helpfulness, efficiency, courtesy and understanding.
A final word of warning - remember that Los Gigantes is all about hills - so be prepared for a lot of steep climbing whichever way you decide to walk.

Bedroom 1 large bedroom with a balcony facing the block in front. It had 2 single beds pushed together, 2 bedside tables with a very small draw on each, dressing table 2 very small draws and a wardrobe built under the stairs in very dark wood. If you want to put your clothes away then you have to pile them on the 3 shelves in the wardrobe. Then you have the ceiling fan, this wobbles around so much you would not want to sleep under it.
Bedroom 2 a very small room with a small double bed crammed in it, you can’t even walk around the bed as it is so close to all the walls (18” each side and at the bottom from the walls). There is a very thin wardrobe wedged in at the bottom of the bed (18” wide) and a very small bedside table at each side of the bed. No ceiling fan, no dressing table not even a mirror and the window faces onto the main road. This room is not suitable for adults it can also get very hot.
Bathroom Ok but very dated, bath chipped and in need of a good clean. No ceiling fan.
Lounge diner on the first floor, long and thin with glass table and 6 chairs, coffee table, one armchair and a bed settee (very uncomfortable) also an old TV at the opposite end of the lounge to the settee so you can’t even watch it. If you want to use the bed settee then you need to put the armchair on to the balcony. Can only seat 4 people unless you want to use the dinning chairs but you would not want to sit on them for long. No ceiling fan.
Kitchen, large, OK if you only want to make snacks and don’t want to cook. No wire shelves in the oven, No ceiling fan.
Roof terrace, OK, 2 sun loungers, small table with 4 chairs. You can hop over the walls from one roof terrace to the next. Great views though.
No locks on any windows or patio doors only broken catches and you can step over from one balcony to the next.
The staff were friendly and helpful but the whole place lets them down.
The Harbour Club needs a full refurbishment.
Advice: Small harbour and beach (black sand).
Activities: Lost of restaurants near
