Oct 2006, Miss S Wells

We had a lovely stay at The Harbour Club. It's a very clean, well kept complex.
We ended up in a 2 bed apartment with 2 balconies & a sea view. The kitchen was fully equipped (sandwich maker, toaster & a kettle are all provided). I think it has just been recently refurbished as it looked very clean & fresh. Now for the moans! They really need to install some sort of air con. It was so hot & only the bigger bedroom had a ceiling fan that wasn't really much good. Also, that particular apartment could sleep up to 6 people. In my opinion, it was only big enough to be comfortable for 4 people. The TV didn't really pick up much. The best channels we could muster were BBC World News & The Travel Channel!
The pool & surrounding area are immaculate. The pool itself is heated I think as it was never freezing cold. No turning blue when you get in! The pool bar serves lovely food at a very reasonable price. I can also thoroughly recommend the restaurant on site. We only ate there once but it was very good.
All the staff are great. We got such a friendly welcome when we arrived which was a pleasant start to our stay. The pool bar staff are lovely & even come down to the pool side to take drinks orders.
The resort itself is small & quiet. I have been to Tenerife many times & found that this has the best scenery compared to the others. The cliffs really are awesome. The beach was a disappointment though. It's tiny!
If you want a change of scene from your own complex, I can recommend the public swimming pool called Oasis. It's very clean with lots of sunbathing areas & the most fantastic view of the cliffs & the marina. It is free if you just pop in for a drink. If you swim or use the sun loungers, it costs a mere 1.75 euro.
Restaurant wise the best ones we went to were Miranda's, The Harbour Club & the Chinese just up the road from The Harbour Club (I think it's called Peking something!). Please avoid the Paraiso Del Sol. We had an awful meal there one night & the staff weren't very friendly either! For breakfasts Ocean Drive is great. They serve proper coffee! Also CK's bistro. These are both run by English people. We went into Puerto Santiago one night (2.50 euro to get there in a taxi) and went to a lovely restaurant called Las Brasas. It nestles in between Fettuccine’s & the Chicken Shack which are also supposed to be good.
The best bar to go to if you want entertainment is the Highland Paddy. They have 2 cabaret acts on every night & we had great fun in there.
All in all this is a great resort if you just want to get away from it all & relax. There are hardly any lucky, lucky men & you don't have someone trying to force you into their bar or restaurant every few steps. It's very hilly so if you have any difficulties mobility wise, this isn't really the place for you. Nor is it if you're looking for a 'mad' holiday. It's a have a nice meal & quiet drinks kind of place. Unless you go to the Highland Paddy that is!

May 2006, Mrs C Pledge

We have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. From the moment we arrived reception staff welcomed us and were very friendly and helpful through out our stay.
The accommodation at the Harbour Club was first class, the pool, Jacuzzi and surrounding areas were kept very clean, neat and tidy. Maybe the only disappointment was the evening entertainment, which although advertised did not always take place (possibly due to lack of holiday makers).
Not having been to Tenerife before we were not sure what to expect, the weather was lovely at a comfortable 21 - 25 degrees for the two weeks. There was plenty of choice of where to eat, in fact the most difficult decision was which restaurant to try each evening! We sampled Chinese, Indian, Spanish, Italian and British.
We went on several coach trips and also used the local bus service (clean buses, on time and value for money). We'll definitely be back.

On arrival, although we specifically booked the Harbour Club, we were in fact allocated to the annex - Harbour Club 2. This was not in the main Harbour Club area but was reached by a walk up a steep hill by road or more directly by a climb of 120 steps (we were initially expected to carry or drag our suitcases up the steep hill or 120 steps on arrival). In the Harbour Club 2 there is no bar area or restaurant and in any case the main pool was closed due to maintenance work.
Our apartment had a tiny balcony with no sun at any time of the day and a view of a brick wall. To make matters worse the front door did not fit and the rain flooded in on several occasions. On the last occasion we returned from a day out to find a newspaper stuffed around the cracks in the door, which we were consequently unable to open. Reception was closed (as was regularly the case) but we eventually found a maintenance man who finally opened the door by kicking it open, whereupon we found the hall, bedroom and kitchen were flooded. He dropped a pile of towels on the floor and left.
Although we had complained on several occasions, we realised at this point we were getting nowhere with our problems and were not prepared to paddle around on slippery floors in an apartment permanently smelling of damp. We were also fearful of being unable to open the apartment door if we went out, having struggled up the 120 steps and not finding anybody to help us.
As a result we spent the last two nights of our holiday at a local hotel, at our own expense. We have made numerous telephone calls and written on several occasions to The Harbour Club, but have received no feedback whatsoever from them.
You will have to make your own judgements of course, but this was our recent experience!!

Overall the holiday was an enjoyable experience.
Initially we were disappointed to discover a number of defects within the apartment, which we notified to the management.
To their credit they had staff call round very quickly and all but one of the defects were rectified within 24 hours - the other item was a faulty louvre window which was beyond repair and was temporarily fixed in an open position with our agreement.
The satellite television service was not properly operational however and we discovered from talking to other people that it had been that way for several months
As we have been travelling regularly to Tenerife for over 20 years, we had no surprises with the weather.
Not having been to Los Gigantes for quite some years. we were pleasantly surprised to discover that it has lost comparatively little of its charm and is a far cry from the bustling centres of Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
The resort offers a wide range of restaurants to cater for all tastes and we found the prices to be very reasonable, even compared to the overall low prices of the Canary Isles.
The major difficulty is the distance from the airport and the high cost of taxis. However the Harbour Club (and most other centres) operate inexpensive minibus services to the airport and we were very pleased with the service provided.
Overall we must recommend the staff and management at the Harbour Club for their helpfulness, efficiency, courtesy and understanding.
A final word of warning - remember that Los Gigantes is all about hills - so be prepared for a lot of steep climbing whichever way you decide to walk.
