Compagnoni Hotel

Great location for the slopes, able to ski back to just across the road from the hotel but with limited runs to resort the slope does tend to get busy towards the end of the day and the snow a bit slushy. Maybe not the best location for complete beginners as they will need to get the gondola up to the mid station and this is an uphill walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is very pleasant. Decent sized rooms, clean, with new bathrooms, a well presented family run establishment. Rooms at front can be a little noisey at night due to central location but nothing too bad. Breakfast is quite simple but be aware eggs and croissants are available on request. Slight lack of storage facilities, just a large wardrobe with one shelf. The hotel has a wellness centre available for an extra charge (€12 or €17 with jucuzzi) which is great for those tired limbs. Would definately recommend this hotel and would stay again if ever I returned to this resort. Skiing - good for beginners or intermediates, maybe not enough challenges for the advanced skier but with over 400km of piste when you include Zermat it is well worth a visit. Be careful where you stay as some hotels are quite some distance from resort centre. Only one terrible meal - can't remember the name, French place on left of main street, terrible video menu board outside, owned by one of the ski instructors. We were initially put off by video menu board but the food was recommended to us so thought we would give it a try. We wish we had not bothered. The meat was terrible for three out of four dishes, possibly the worst meat I have ever eaten. Also service charge automatically applied. When we commented on the food we were simply told that the meat is usually very good. No apology or any further explanation. There are plenty of really good places ran by local italians, I would recommend going to one of these instead. Hotel Grivola and the restaurant below the Copa pan particularly good. Plenty of places to eat on the slopes - the one at the top of the four man chair near the church is particularly good. Beware though that some of the toilets are a little basic - i.e. no running water, toilet roll, soap or hand drying facilities, basicly a hole in the ground! Resort only 1hr 40 from Turin so well worth a visit if you do not like long transfers.
