This is a lovely looking holiday park in the heart of beautiful countryside. Most of the moblie homes are privately owned and holiday lets advertised privately. When entering the park i was amazed and delighted to be greeted by what can only be described as a village. Although the mobile homes are modern the majority are fenced off and absolutely ablaze with colour. Lawns are carefully tended, flowers grow in every sort of container, pot and hanging basket. Happy dogs bounce up and down thoughtfully contained in their own spaces. I saw abundant butterflies, dragonflies, rabbits and birds. There was even a sparrowhawk, every morning sitting outside my window.
The park fits beautifuly with the tiny little village of St Osyth just 20 mins walk, and the beach is a mere 45 mins walk (10 mins by car). On one of these walks I came within ten feet of a family of deer!
There is not much to do, unless you like walking, there is a clubhouse but is is not open during the day and the 'cafe' is appalling. IF it is open here is hardly any choice of menu and the 'cook' kept running out of food. There is no shop or other amenities on the grounds. It is possible to get a pass to Park Holidays other local sites where there are better facilities but i have to say - those sites aren't any where near as pretty.
The real problem with this site is the staff, apart from Mary, who is lovely, the staff are rude, arrogant and unhelpful, particularly the site manager. Thinking that I had caught her on a bad week I made enquiries as to the purchase of one of the quite stunning lakeside homes, only to be told that in Oct the management was removing all the fences, decks, and gardens. I was appalled.
If you can stand a bit of rudeness and enjoy peace and quiet and local wildlife, get down to Oaklands Holiday Park, st Osyth, Essex, quick, before it becomes another bland empty piece of grass with boring tin cans stuck on it.
