we stayed here on the 26th till the 28th march 2010, should have stayed till 29th, but cut it short... the park was very basic, the caravan smelt of mould, but the maintenance staff were very prompt in dealing with our complaints.... broken fire... leak... no tv as stated they would be.. but all these were dealt with very fast. the staff at the park were very helpful and friendly. not a lot to do out and about though.. had to go for miles to find anything of interest... the park needs to get more geared up for families so we dont have to go looking around for things to entertain ourselves, the beach down the road was beautiful tho... just the wrong time of year for us to appreciate it.im so glad i only paid sun holiday price or i would have wanted a refund, but as they say you get what u pay for lol .... i would not go again to this park due to the out off the way location and the lack of facilities... but i must stress that the staff do their best with the situation they are in... i think this park would really benefit with a vast amount of money and thought spent on it

We are a family of five with three young children. We booked through sun holidays to go in July which I thought would be peak entertainment-nothing at all on. We went with another two families and even then it was hard for us to entertain eachother, there was no "holiday atmosphere" at all. We arrived at the caravan and the first thing I noticed was the vile foisty smell, even the kids pointed it out! The boiler didnt work so we had to ring for service, mind I cant complain about the service because somebody was with us in less than 5 minutes.
All during the day and throughout the night there were gangs of youths hanging around outside the so called entertainment bar. We went into the swimming pool (we have been in bigger paddling pools) and the attendants look at you as if you were dirt, they were all very rude. In fact we didnt stay in very long at all for this very reason, you could entertain yourself better in the caravan!
If it hadnt been for the kids looking so forward to it and costing so much money we would just have came straight back home.
If you are reading this review do not take it with a pinch of salt, it was an absolute nightmare.

After reading the (mostly awful) reviews on here I was apprehensive in going to Cresswell Towers which I had booked for the October School holiday week. We arrived about 2.30pm on the 12th October. On arrival it wasn't too clear what the 'booking in' proceedure was, however I will add it was quickly pointed out that we had to book in in the leisure Centre (and not reception) which was a bit odd. Everyone standing in a long line getting keys etc. (Wee bit Hi De Hi) Arrived at our Gold caravan and was relieved to see it was very clean, heating on and loads of storage space. I had also booked a caravan for friends and there's was brill value also. The pool was fine, bit small but if you time it right (dead on 10am)you can have a good bit of space to yourself. The bar area etc/ menu was okay, typical holiday park grub but then we ate in most nights before we went out. They were winding down the entertainment at night when we went so apart from bingo there was no adult entertainment however, I cannot fault the entertainment staff for the children (Adam, Ricky & Rachel) who worked incredibley hard and always gave 100% each night. The hours they had to work were long but still they kept smiling!! Whilst I wouldn't rush back, I was definately pleasently surprised and would hope that the bad rveiews are just unfortunate luck for some....

Arrived for a four day short break which we booked through the Sun holidays. As we had a dog we had no option to upgrade and were allocated a two bedroom Bronze caravan. The caravan itself had been cleaned but unfortunately the seating area in the lounge was in a terrible state. All the seat covers were ripped and the stuffing showing through. We also had surplus chairs which looked like they had came from the bar area and extra duvets which were shoved into the wardrobes not giving us any space for our clothes. We went to Reception to ask if the extras could be moved and also to mention the state of the seats and to be fair to the staff somone came up straight away to remove what we had no room for but all they could offer us was a white sheet to throw over the seating area to cover the ripped seats. The next morning out boiler kept going out so we went back to the office and this time I asked if we could have another caravan and they agreed to give us one. The new one was much better and it was a three bedroom so we had much more space. There were a few things in this caravan which were still not great, the carpets were stained, the smoke alarm had no battery in it and the kitchen equipment was limited. All in all the staff were helpful, the pool area is very nice and clean and the entertainment/bar area is also well maintained. It seems that the park owners need to now concerntrate on upgrading the inside of the caravans and things should improve. This site is in a lovely area and close to the beach.

Arrived on August 31st 2009, and I must say the grounds of this caravan site are beautifully kept, the grass was cut every day around the caravans. The Bronze caravan that we booked was more than adequate for our 4 day stay, it had a new kitchen, combi boiler and heater in all 3 bedrooms. The only thing about the caravan was the state of the pans, they were all rusty but rather than complain I just went into Ashington Asda and bought some then took them home-problem solved. Now the communal areas are a different story, they need to make sure that they don't run out of drinks over the Bank Holiday causing us to take our own into the bar area on a night, and they really must do something about the foul mouthed ( mostly wearing Newcastle shirts) youths hanging around outside the Amusements. Also may be an idea to have the Dog Wardens on the path outside the site as you walk down to the beach as there must have been about 100 piles of dog mess in about 50 metres ( not the sites fault) but doesn't look very inviting( just a thought).

Arrived at Cresswell Towers for the long week-end, had to disinfect everything before I would eat. Cooker was covered in Grease, windows filthy and the seating area smelled discusting, I had to burn candles to keep the stench at bay.
Beach is beautiful but I would not return to Cresswell Towers

After a 5 hour car journey we arrived at Cresswell Towers on Friday 31 July 2009 at 5pm - we were on our way back home by 5.30pm. I have never seen such disgustingly filty caravan accommodation and the second caravan they offered us, which in their words "was one of our slightly better ones" was no better. The smell from the caravans was disgusting and indiscribable. Hoseasons have issued a full refund which makes me wonder if they have had complaints regarding this company before and if so this is appalling treatment for their clients. Just 4 words to sum up this place, smelly, filthy, filthy, filthy.

This has got to be the worst caravan site ever. Decided to take the kids on my own as I cant put up our tent by myself so static caravan it was. Never again. Caravan filthy spoke to other families having the same experience. One man from Suffolk who is a park resorts regular said it was the worst ever. If you want a holiday surrounded by Vicky Pollard types this is the place for you. It seems a shame cos some of the privately owned statics on site looked very nice. Pool filthy, staff ambivalent or rude. Tin can hell. Musty smelly torn curtains etc read the reviews before iwenrt but after i booked!!!! Ordering a smaller tent tonight! Gave up after 2 nights kida and I utterly miserable. Northumberland very nice though will return in a tent as far away as possible from cresswell hell

Me , my Partner and two children have recently returned from a short break at cresswell towers northumberland, we have been to many holiday parks including sandy bay, haggerston castle and valley farm and cresswell towers is by far the best. The staff are all really helpful and plesant. We booked bronze accomodation which i wasnt expecting much to be honest but was pleasantly surprised, the caravan was very clean indeed and well presented and had everything you need for a self catering holiday, . There is a little shop to buy sweets and snacks it is a little overpriced but they all are on the holiday parks.
My children really enjoyed themselves and will definetly come back next year

i send considerable time on this park, and feel that it isnt represented fairly, this park until a couple of years ago was a mainly owner park with modest facilities, after park resorts purchase, the hire fleet was extended and intensively marketed, there has been large investment, but it is inadequate to deal with larger numbers of people, example the pool only holds 26, the staff generaly are helpfull but often over stretched and un able to produce instant solutions, if you want a quiet holiday, with modest entertainment, childrens entertainers your children will remember the name of, and limited expense(there no shops apart from small one on park and small ice cream shop off park) this is the place to be, plus miles and miles ofunspoilt beach, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the staff on park have to work wthin the constraints of such a small park, and whilst nothing moves fast in creswell, it has many charms, last word, if you want higher standards, book privately from an owner and inspect the van before you book, if the unit is good, the owners will be happy to let you view it.

I was staying from Saturday to Saturday with my 2 sons (age 2 and 12) in the third week of the Summer holidays. By Wednesday we had had enough and my husband came and rescued us!
'The Caravan' - was dirty on arrival. I had to ask for someone to come in and clean the shower and the kitchen sink and also hoover. The receptionist in charge questioned my complaint saying that she had personally checked the caravan before i went in but when I asked her if she had checked the bathroom and kitchen she said no she had only checked the bedrooms (??). After this, I went to the toilet and was horrified at the state of it - the seat and bowl were dirty and the floor was filthy so I went and bought bleach and cleaned it myself. I have 2 sons and could not have let them wait for another cleaner to come out before they used the toilet. The seating area was fairly clean but the table was falling to bits and was too dangerous to use. I complained about this and it was replaced the following day.
Having had a couple of hours at the beach, there was quite a bit of sand to be cleared up later so I decided to use the carpet sweeper. It was absolutely thick with dog hair which spread all over the carpet when I used the sweeper so again I went to reception where my level of hygeine was questioned again (aparantly I have higher standards than others) however the sweeper was replaced with a brand new one and I was able to clean up.
The 'well stocked shop' - This was a rubbish, dirty little building with really unhelpful staff. They sell postcards but not stamps, 1 type of bread, no fresh fruit or salad. They had no carrier bags the whole time we were there.
'The pool' - This was a joke. Although the pool was pretty clean, one of the pool attendants (there were two) was more interested in chatting up the girls and kept disappearing for no apparant reason. Our 'episode' started at 11.30am on Tuesday morning. We got to the pool and were told "It's closed till 12. I'll chuck this lot out at 12 then you lot can come in". Fair enough i thought and went into the club house with the kids and ordered a capuccino. The guy behind the bar took 15 minutes to make my coffee and came back with a latte. Then he took another 10 minutes to come back with the right one. At 12 o' clock we went back to the pool to be told by a different young lad that the pool was closing and that he wasn't given a reason why and that the other attendant had 'gone missing'. By this time there were quite a few irate parents and winging kids queuing up. After 20 minutes the missing attendant turned up and explained that he'd meant for there to be a change over of swimmers at 12. So eventually we got in the pool at 12.20 only to be told at 12.45 for everyone to get out. Ridiculous.
'The Club House' - By Wednesday they had completely ran out of bottled soft drinks for kids and completely run out of take-away food boxes. Surely for the 6 weeks summer holidays they should be 'over-stocked' with these items. To go into the main bar and entertainment centre and even to get to the pool you have to go through the amusements arcade so you can spend a fiver before you even get a drink. A lot of kids were just left to their own devices and 'ran wild'. I even saw one child (about age 9 or 10) help himself to a soft drink from behind the bar!
I felt the need to speak to the park manager but to be fair he didn't seem too bothered about my comments. I ended the conversation by telling him I would never go to Cresswell Towers again and I would definately not recommend it to anyone else.

Many poor reviews were levelled against Cresswell Towers. All I can say is that the staff were excellent on arrival and generally. The caravan (Bronze) was clean all utensils were present and even had new shower.
Very close to beach and the local area is excellent to explore. The site is small and cosy so numbers are fewer hence the size of the pool which is smaller than most. It was out of action on one day but we went to beach which is excellent.
The size of the camp means it is also less likely to attract large same sex groups and seemed to be more family orientated. However, the kids entertainment did seem to be lacking and sporadic with too much emphasis on bingo.
Had a great time and if you do as we do and use the park as a place to sleep but explore outside and use the beach then its a great place. If you like to spend all your time in the park then perhaps not the best for entertainment.
