Lets face it. Most of us like to have sunshine on our balcony at some point during the daytime, even if it is only for a few hours. This hotel building does not get much sunshine due to it's orientation and because there is a huge building obscuring the evening sun. This... more

Let's keep this simple, if you are not already a time share owner already DO NOT GO! If you are expecting a 4 star hotel and rooms to match (as appears on their website) you will be dissapointed. You will be put in a room at the back of the hotel with a view over the road,... more

Lovely, friendly resort
The Pearly Grey is a very pleasant, friendly place to stay and the staff are always very helpful. We didn’t stay in the main part which covered a few floors but just went down some steps by the side of the pool.which led to a few other apartments and we stayed in a large two-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms. We could manage to see the sea from the balcony but there was a large sun terrance with sun loungers between our balcony and the sea. We had a Welcome Party with lots of Sangria supplied and a Farewell Party with ‘Champagne’. However Callao Salvaje is only a small place so anyone who likes a lot of nightlife would be very disappointed and also not the place to stay if you like a nice beach as there is only a small black sand one. However, there are a variety of different restaurants nearby – Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, English, Spanish and there is a supermarket just across the road with a larger one a few minutes walk away. If you don’t want to hire a car you can catch a bus to Los Gigantes in one direction and Los Christianos in the other direction. Tracy was very good and organised the usual type of daytime activities like darts, bowling, pool, aquafit, quizzes etc and we enjoyed relaxing round the pool and joining in these as it was a chance to get to know other guests. We had a Chinese buffet one evening, went to the Indian restaurant and one of the other restaurants but we dined four evenings at the Pearly Grey – they had a barbecue evening which was 12 Euros and a Canarian evening at 13 Euros but only 22 Euros if you booked both at the same time. The food was very good and you got a large plateful, just the one course, but you had a drink included at both of them. We also treated ourselves to two other evenings there, a four course Sunday Roast at 17.50 Euros which included soup, a large selection of salads, main course and a selection of sweets, all of which you could help yourselves to. It was 18.50 Euros for the four course International Evening with soup, again a lovely selection of salads, and seven different International dishes and you could help yourself to a bit of each, and then sweets. No drink was included with these meals but I could recommend all the meals we had there. They also have an al a carte menu. There was never any problem in getting a sun lounger no matter what time you arrived at the pool. Evening entertainment started at 9 pm with a quiz and perhaps some audience participation and then there was an artist on, mostly at 10 pm but a couple of nights it did get later. We left after the artist but I understand there was some dancing and karaoke until 12. If you want to book any trips then look around before booking at the Welcome Meeting as there are tours available a lot cheaper. One company gave leaflets out at the airport – I think they were called something like Direct Tours. A friend went with them to La Gomera for 42 euros instead of over 60 euros and was very happy with the trip. We felt a week had been long enough for us to stay there, although there were people staying for three weeks, but we enjoyed our stay very much.
lovely and friendly
Arrived at Pearly Grey Ocean Club at 6.30pm after a long day running around the island of Tenerife after being disappointed with The Harbour Club facilities in Los gigantes We are with R.C.I exchange points and the Pearly Grey was the 4th place on our list. On arrival at the reception " Carine" made us really welcome. So did Gemma the following day .The rooms have lovely views over the sea and the swimming pool( which is cleaned and tested every morning.) The rooms do need upgrading, and double glazing installed, because you can hear everything that goes on outside the room. .Heather who organizes the evening entertainment is very good and tries to include everyone in quizzes and the dreadful (karaoke,) before the main acts .The professional entertainers are really good and enjoyable. The only problem is they start to late in the evening so there is no way you could have an early night even if you wanted one . The entertainment finishes at about 12 midnight but you get guests sitting outside the bar area drinking and talking till the early hours. We were on the 5th floor and could hear everything even with the doors closed. That,s another problem,, the main door into the room cannot be closed quietly from the outside they don,t have a handle that can be turned, so it has to be pulled shut with a bang. The restaurant food is very good and there are plenty of other restaurants close by as well. We ate at the EL DELFIN a couple of times the food is very good and they are very reasonable with the prices .Overall we had a lovely time at the Pearly Grey. If you go self catering you need transport to go to the Hypermarket about 10 minutes drive away , the small supermarkets locally are a bit pricey but are very handy
Great Accomodation, Quiet resort, 2 hours more than quoted for timeshare meeting
Me & my partner found the hotel/accomodation through Letsgocanaries.com. Great offer, but on one condition, that we attend a meeting that was to last for 2 hours - Wrong! it was booked to start at 1pm on weds 1st Sept, and ended at 5.15pm on that same afternoon, teatime! Not Impressed! I had no complaints about the apartment itself or the bar, just the resort was a little too quiet for us. We are at a "funny age" being 33 & 34, we don't want to be clubbing till 5am, but we want a little more life than was there. I prob won't go again, but glad i went as me & my partner had a great time. Where we were sun bathing, on the lower sundeck, we had a great view, and even saw a couple of dolphins. How lovely! I wanted to warn anyone who was going, that if they were due to attend a timeshare meeting, that when they say a couple of hours, they mean 4+!
UMM. Not as good as it looks
Pearly Grey is in a very quite location. great if you happy with eating in the same restuarants. Pearly Grey itself - swimming pool great, be sure to wake up early to reserve your sunbeds otherwise you will either not get any or they will be quite a walk away from the pool. This is fine if you don't have very young children... Cleanliness - We had to ask the cleaners twice to give the rooms a good cleaning with mops - but it seems the cleaners are not too bothered to change water regularly so it might as well not have been mopped. Staff - One thing that really gets me is when you have waiters who think they are doing you a favour when they serve you a drink. real attidute problem - very miserable, not once did i see a smile on their face. Food - if you are a veggie - don't expect too much, there is a very small number of items avaiable. If you like to eat local cuisine don't expect that either. if you are one of those people who like their fish and chips and egg n chips or shepards pie this you will be fine. Will be like you are in Blackpool - only its warmer. Restuarants around the resort - a few dotted about - pizzarias, chinese, indian and and a few bars dotted about. Again don't expect particualry high stds in food. Anyway thats me done
Nice.......but!!!
This hotel has good and bad points. I'd say the hotel is a 4* but the rooms only 3* THE BAD........ Myself and my husband have just stayed a week at the Pearly Grey. We had booked from Teletext through GoCanaries.com, DO NOT book through this agent, or any other timeshare agency. We thought we had a pretty good deal and were told how lucky we were to get the Pearly Grey....hhhmm! We had to sign a contract to say that we would attend a meeting with a rep for a timeshare talk and that it would just take a couple of hours out of our holiday. We thought what is 2 hours out of our whole week? and so thought why not and booked. When we finally arrived late on a Friday night in the dark after a 4 hour delay, we were told where our room was, well kinda, the receptionist wasn't really sure and just pointed us in the general direction, we had to ask other guests whilst on our way round, if they had any idea where the room might be. We got pretty excited as we walked closer and closer to the sea. Imagine our disappointment when we got to our room and realised we had one of only two rooms in the whole hotel that were down in 'the depths' and didn't have a view. Our balcony was facing a wall of doors to other rooms and got very little daylight into it. The room was nice enough, it was clean and decorated nicely, the furniture looked new, we looked for the bedroom door and then we had another shock to realise it didn't have a bed let alone another room!!!! The pictures I had seen on the internet showed the rooms with a bed! It seems we had been allocated a studio, which I would never have booked as my hubby is 6ft 4in and would no way fit on a sofa bed. So for the 1st time 'ever' on holiday, we went back to reception and asked for a room change. We were basically told that we had been given our room for 'free' (wtf?) and no way could we be changed as the hotel was full!!!!! I was woken up at 7:45am the next morning by the sound of machines whirring. I couldn't believe our room was above the hotel laundry!!! We were then in for another shock to realise the tumble drier pipe was running along the front of the balcony and blowing out at the side. Can you imagine the heat? I thought It may be OK the next morning as it was a Sunday, but, once again at 7.45 it happened again. Our rep came to the room to meet us the 1st morning, can you believe 'we' apologised? and explained that we had never complained 'ever' before and she said that she would do her best to try and get us moved and she would let us know later that afternoon. That morning we met a couple of other families who had arrived just after us, both complained to us that their rooms were not at all as they had expected. The 1st couple were moved after being put up on the top (5th) floor with a toddler, they were worried the balcony was so low that he would climb it and fall, the Mum said she was practically in tears until they moved them down to the 2nd floor. The other family's room was great on the ground floor near the pool, but felt it was a little shabbier and smaller than they had hoped. The rep approached us later that afternoon and said it would be a couple of days (Monday or Tuesday) before we could be moved as it was so busy!! Basically we were told that if we had belonged to RCI (the owners club) we would have been moved straight away, but as we booked through an agency, the agency had been given the room for free, so we must wait and see if any vacant rooms were needed for 'owners' first, before we could be allocated one. Huh?? We got the room for free??? We had paid over £800 for this holiday!!!! We were not happy at all as my hubby was hanging off the end of the sofa bed, but we were determined not to let this spoil our much needed holiday though and to get on and try to enjoy our time away. Eventually a few days later we were tipped the wink that the owner of the hotel would be in that day, so my hubby approached the rep saying that he had not had a bed for 3 days and that if we were not helped he would speak to the owner himself. And low and behold 10minutes later a key turned up for us, with a one bedroomed room up on the 4th floor in the hotel block!!! Funny that! Although the room was not as nicely decorated (it was 'shabby chic', more shabby than chic I am afraid) not like the new furniture in the studio, but it was clean and actually had daylight (yey) and a wonderful view of the sea and pool. You can't really have a lie-in whilst staying there either, if you were not up and by the pool by 8am, you didn't get a sunbed! I was having to get up, go downstairs, save a bed, drink a coffee and read the paper down by the pool before I had time to even wash my face. On the last day I had slept 'late' to 8.45am and there were no sunbeds on the top areas near the pool at all. We found the place to be quite clicky to begin with, with other owners knowing each other, some making up large groups and saving each others sunbeds. We did overhear one dayglo orange owner saying that he "thought this place was getting more 'select' but that it didn't seem to be happening like he had hoped!"....Hhhmm!!! But as the week went on people started speaking and nodding 'morning' etc..... which was nice, although 'not' the above guy who thought he was above most peoples station. The timeshare meeting with the rep lasted 31/2 hours!! Although to be fair we did ask questions whilst we were there and the timeshare room was wonderful, but really we were not interested, if we hadnt got a mortgage at home we may well have thought about it. But did they really expect people to pay out thousands of pounds after being treated the way we had? We were approached a couple more times that week by reps (they appear about 2.30pm every afternoon) but it really wasn't a hard sell, although saying that, a couple of other people did complain to us and when one guy apparently said point blank, "NO" he was asked to leave so they could speak to his wife on her own! We did not experience any of this and found our rep to be ok, thankfully. OK so here is the good.... THE GOOD The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff all work very hard to keep all the rooms and communal areas neat and tidy. We felt very secure there and we could leave our patio windows open when our room was down in 'the depths' the first couple of days with no real worries at all. The daytime entertainment was great, and Tracey was brill and worked hard keeping the children and adults busy during the afternoons. My hubby thoroughly enjoyed this, even though we didn't have any children with us LOL! He joined in with most team games and had a great time taking part in the Olympics on our last day, everyone laughed and enjoyed the afternoon. To be fair we didn't use the bar & restaurant that much whilst we were there, my hubby didn't want to spend money there whilst we were waiting on a new room and not being treated too well, and anyways it was cheaper in the town, but we did have one breakfast and a few snacks, which all seemed to be good and we heard no complaints from other guests about that, all the bar staff were all very nice and friendly and got to know you and what you ordered. We didnt stay in for any evening entertainment either, but we had been told it was good, it was a little noisy but the bar closes around midnight and so had no problem at all with music going on until the early hours which was great. The town is GREAT!!! Quiet but not too quiet!! Great for families and couples, not really for teenage clubbers, you will have to travel to the madness of Playa De Las Americas for that about 20 minutes away . There is a supermarket right outside and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. We ate somewhere different every night and ate from All-you-can-eat chinese through to italian ...so a great choice! Scooby Doos was the best for breakfast. The homemade ice-cream parlour just up the road was our favourite place!!! Monica who works there was lovely and looked after us very well! As i don't drink alcohol that much, she made me wonderful milkshakes, with my ice-cream flavour of choice, with fresh cream and chocolate sauce on top Yummy!! My hubby partaking in his tipple of Southern Comfort! Don't book excursions in the hotel, there is a place called the Money Exchange just up the road. It is English owned and they were very nice and helpful to us. We booked a trip to Los Christianos to see the dolphins and whales out in the wild which was amazing!!! The bus and taxi service is good from the top of the main street if you are without a car to get around the island. OVERALL we liked the town very much, the hotel was OK but geared up more for the owners than other guests, which can p*** you off at times, we felt that any complaints were ignored and that it can make you feel like 2nd class citizens whilst you are there. It is great for couples, but feel the room would have been way to small for families as there is just one double bed and a sofa bed in the rather small living area. The outside areas were great for families with lots for the children to do with their own pool and play area and activities organised each day. And it was very safe for little ones. WOULD WE GO BACK? Maybe We loved the town, the hotel was good, the rooms were a disappointment, but the views (if you got one) were breathtaking!! We are not people to go continually back to the same place each year, but maybe in a few years time if the rooms were refurbished or we could get an owners apartment on the front.
Quiet family friendly resort
Lovely location with great views over the sea to La Gomera. Very clean, friendly resort. Safe with daytime activities around the pool which are not intrusive. Good hotel restaurant with other good eating places within the village. Apartments well equiped, mostly with sea views. Definately recommend if you want a relaxing holiday with children.
Very friendly atmostphere
Stayed here for the first week in May with my sister her 3 kids and my 1 kid. Kids ages ranged from 5 to 13. We stayed in the suite 14 next to the sea. There were 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed. The sound of the sea was very relaxing at night. The whole place is very clean and no cockroaches in the rooms at all. There is entertainment in the hotel bar every night apart from Fridays, and it closes at 12 midnight. The best night was the group 'Bitter and Twisted', not to be missed. There is a large pool and a kids pool in the play area. The play area is completely fenced and shaded which is brilliant. There are loads of sunbeds. There is a pool table, table tennis etc beside pool and poolside activities are organised most days. The staff are very helpful especially Cedric at reception who deserves a medal for putting up with our two youngest kids. The actual village is very quiet, not the place for party animals. The food served here is brilliant. Youve got to try their Canary potatoes they are real tasty. We went down the street one night to eat. All I can say is stay away from the pizza cafe called 'Titanic' something or other, it was horrible. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a friendly, quiet sunbathing break.
La Perla Gris
We were two women staying here for our second week in Tenerife. We did enjoy the pearly grey ....nice pool, good reasonably priced food for lunch by the pool ( never ate there for dinner). The town itself of Callao salvaje is very very quiet at night....we did take a taxi in to PLA a few nights but that was quite expensive at least 25 euros....the bus system is not that convenient...you see people waiting for buses all over as they are not that frequent. There are a few pubs in town but after a few nights you see same people same songs etc...Nice place to go for a relaxing week ( 2 would be pushing it) The front desk William and Cedric were very helpful...and we did have a great 2 br unit on the 4th floor with a fabulous view to the sea and the pool......all in all enjoyed it ...met some nice people...
Breezy, but wow .... what views
Me and the wife were considering the 'time share' thing a few years back and this was where we ended up. Really well fitted out rooms, Hotel had lots of facilities, everything was reasonably priced once you were there. However the cost of the time share package was way too high. Staff were really friendly until they found out we couldn't afford it at the all day meeting we HAD to attend as part of the holiday. Which was no great loss though as everything else made up for it.
pearly grey tenerife
The Pearly Grey Ocean Club , Adeje, Tenerife is a fantastic hotel which is located in the quiet village resort of Calleo Salvaje on the South side of the island just ten minutes in a taxi outside Las Americas. The hotel offers high standard accommodation which varies from upper 3* to Gold Crown Resort standard as it is also part of RCI. The Restaraunt serves superb food which is excellent value for money and the Razzamatazz Bar houses daily intertainement which is typically Tenerife but very entertaining. The staff are very freindly and exceptionally helpful. Housekeeping is 2x weekly and adequate. Any outstanding issues are addressed right away. Transport from Calleo Salvaje is reasonable. To Las Americas it is about 12-15 Euros in a taxi and 3 Euros 40 cents in a bus (every 30 mins). To Las Gegantes its about 4 Euros in the bus. The resort of Calleo Salvaje is small but it has bars and resteraunts that are very good. For a meal I recommend the Casa Maria esp for their fillet steak (wow) and for a drink you have Beckhams bar, Paddy McGinnty's Irish bar and a host of others. The Pearly Grey does have good standards for both food and drink and also has special offers to hand. We got all our breakfasts for the week for 120 Euros which included Full English, cereals etc etc. The pool is fab too, and there is a Gym, Sauna and Jacuzzi. As this hotel is on the sea front cliff tops, it has unspoilt views of La Gomera. The Pearly Grey is also a member of RCI with some rooms Gold Crown Status. We joined after speaking to a number of owners who raved about the hotel as well as the RCI exchange program. We will go back but we will use our RCI points to travel as well but we are looking forward to going back with friends and family. If you go, I'm sure you won't be disapointed. If you want a hotel which is in a quiet area with enough to do but close enough to the hussle and bussle if you want it, I would say go to this village/ resort. Its more a resort towards the sea front and a village where the upmarket residential villas are. Lastly, the hotel bar closes at 12:00pm. Other bars are open later. We found it to be late enough though and we are in our late 30's/ early 40's. Enjoy!
