We have just got back form Marni Village, Koutouloufari. During our stay we found all the members of staff were extremely polite. We had a 1 bedroom apt at the front of the complex which was spotlessly clean and well thought out. We always go self catering and this... more

A great place to stay!
We stayed at Marni Village for one week and it exceeded all our expectations. The accommodation was attractively designed, large and clean - we stayed in a 'junior suite' which was a perfect size for two, well-furnished and a very reasonable price. The Village is located on a hill and we had wonderful balcony views down the hill and out across the sea. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The main pool had a lively bar but the Village was still very peaceful and relaxing. The gardens are pretty and well-tended. It's less than a 5-minute walk to Koutouloufaris village which has lots of great places to eat and plenty of small shops. We'd thoroughly recommend Marni Village to anyone - whether they be families or couples - looking for a relaxing place to stay in lovely surroundings. Book and have a wonderful time!
could not have been better!!!
all i can say is Fantastic! the apartments are basic but clean, The people are just superb they can not do enough for you. The view of the mountains and the sea is superb, and the village setting is lovely with superb Tavernas and bars. can not fault it, superb
Excellent!!!
Excellent apartments. Although accomodation basic, all you do is sleep in them! Have been to Marni twice and we are planning to go again this year. We found staff could not have been friendlier! Very helpful and apartments CLEANED every couple of days. Resort lovely with everything you need without tatty shops and rowdy teenagers! Would, and have recommended to many!
Have to help yourself
I would not recommend Marni Village unless you are willing to do everything yourself. We had a two bedroom apartment and it was very spacious and clean when we arrived. However, the cleaning staff did not do any cleaning other than rearrange things. Do not expect any kind of service from the reception staff. They refused to help us ring the taxi transfer company to confirm our reservation and got very heated when asked why they wouldn't. The best part of our stay was the pool next to our apartment. Also you need to pay extra for air-conditioning, use of the tennis court and rackets and bring your own dish washing liquid and sponge!
Fun for the Family
We were a party of 6, comprising two OAP's, our teacher son, our daughter-in-law and two grandsons aged 9 and 10. We all enjoyed the holday in no small measure due to the quality of the apartments and the site itself. The apartments were well equipped, spacious and the view from the balcony was exceptional. Although there were many chalets, clever landscaping and layout gave us the impression of privacy and we were rarely bothered by noise from other guests. The grounds are well cared for and clean. There is ample car parking on site for hire cars although the random parking of quad bikes can be a problem. The management was excellent, attending to a faulty sink plug within thirty minutes. The maid service was unbelievable as it seemed that our linen was changed nearly every day. The boys revelled in the close proximity of the swimming pool which they used nearly every day. The village of Kotoulafari was just up the road with a good mix of tavernas and shops to suit most tastes. A word of warning, if you are hiring a car, the village centre is closed to vehicular traffic from 7 pm to 11 .30. If you are caught on the wrong side during these hours it can necessitate a lengthy detour unless you can sweet talk the policeman on duty.
magical village
I have just returned from a magical stay at marni village where i stayed for 7 days with my partner. The apartment was clean, spacious with a cute terrace surrounded by flowers, trees, pathways all which added to the cosy village atmosphere. On arrival the staff were very friendly and there was a maid service every other day- she even did our washing up! We visited only on e of the 3 pools as we liked it so much due to the pituresque views overlooking the sea, mountains and the town of hersonissoss. Marni village itself is situated within the quiet yet quirky village of koutouloufari with its roof top taverns, open air restaurants and traditional shops. The restaurants here were varied and all comendable and I must say we didnt have a bad meal whilst we were there, all for reasonable prices (around 18 pounds for two courses and drinks for two people). One bar inparticular should definately be visited if not just to meet the hilarious and very welcoming 'yanniss' at fabrica's, he was such a character we ended up visiting the bar on 3 seperate nights, although he had a habit of mocking our english accents and phrases which some may take offence but we found endearing. A 15min walk leads you to the larger town of hersonnissos where the beaches, clubs, watersports and more shops are situated. Hersonnissoss itself is not as pretty as the village of koutouloufari but there is plenty to do including horse riding and go karting as well as the lively beach row street which leads to a great night out for party goer's and the clubs are all free entry with many drinks deals. I couldnt reccomend this holiday destination enough, whether it be for couples or families there is something for everyone. The only bad thing is that time went too fast there and i wish we had stayed longer!!!
Agree with what the others say....BUT....
I would agree with everything the others say about Marni Village. It is very clean and tidy, spacious units, however....they don't tell you on Expedia that you need to pay extra for your airconditioning! Approximately 9 euros a night so you need to factor that in to your cost. You do need it in the height of summer though at other times you may get away with it. I can't add much more than what the others have written, it is a little difficult to find initially, you need to take the road directly in front of the Select supermarket and wind your way up the hill but there are plenty of people to ask directions. We didn't find a strict no noise policy in place, in fact one night we were kept awake till all hours with the antics of the people upstairs and were quite tired as a result the next day. But would I go back - yes, especially if you like to self cater.
Brilliant
Just got back from Marni Village and i must say it was the best holiday i have ever been on. We were welcomed by all the staff who were very friendly, they would do anything for you eg ringing taxis for you etc, when we had a bit of trouble booking a car as the people didn't speak English they phoned them for us. The food in the pool bar is great, and all the pools and facilities are very lively - people of all ages. Appartments were clean and most had great views of the pool or sea. I don't think i could fault anything about the holiday. It is quite a way away from Hersonossis (a lively town on the beach full of clubs, shops and restaurants). But if your not bothered about missing out on the clubs there was hundreds of shops and restaurants in Koutoulafari (a village right next to Marni Village), you can walk there in literally 2 minutes. It is quiet during the day and gets a bit busier at night when people are out eating in restaurants and looking through the shops. There are plenty of supermarkets with all the food and drink you would need although they are fairly small. I must say though we spent most of our time in Marni Village as there is lots to do, we loved the main pool, and when we got hungry we'd just go to the pool bar. We went to Hersonossis one night but spent most of out time in Koutoulafari or at Marni. In Hersonossis it was lovely sat in the beach bars with the sea breeze and looking through shops but they are a bit insistant of you buying things and going in- in and every shop, restaurant and club. We must of been told 100 times that night we were there 'Special guests' which in a way was good as you pay for 1 drink and get about 3 free but when every single club asked you to go in as you will agree it gets a bit annoying. And when you have just eaten other restaurants insist you must go in! Some even literally drag you in sit you down and give you a menu. Don't ever pick something up in a shop unless you know you want it as if you put it back they get it again and encourage you to buy it. Also refusing their custom is very offensive to them, we found a way to get away from them though if we didn't want to go in somewhere and they asked us to we would say we've just come out a few minutes ago and they let you go. These may seem like faults but the people are genuinely friendly and its just the greek culture. Koutoulafari is very laid back however and no one will bother you there. The tavernas are lovely and often violinists would go round and play at the open top tavernas over looking the sea. The view is breathtaking. The maids are also very friendly and even do your washing up sometimes! All i can say is if you want to learn about the greek culture, you like meals out and browsing through shops, you love swimming and sitting in the sun, maybe clubbing or bars at night then MARNI VILLAGE is the holiday for you. You can either escape the liveliness of the holiday and relax by the pool or bar or get yourself into Hersonossis and have a great time. Either way i guarantee you will enjoy yourself. Nothing bad to say.
Quite strict - suitable for Quiet holiday only
Stayed in the Marni apartments for 2 weeks with a large 16 strong group of friends, all aged about 24. It is located about 15 minutes up a steep hill from Hersonisis and the beach so not recommended for people who would have difficuly walking uphills. However, the village of Koutoulaufari which is about 10 minute walk is beautiful and is traditional and is perfect way to start the evening. Full of lovely welcoming tavernas. The two pools were open and they were clean. There was also plenty of sunbeds. The apartments we had - about 5 of them - were ok - they could have been cleaner. They were very basic and certainly do not look like the one shown in the photographs. However the majority of our problems stemmed from the fact that they were very strict in general. We're not a very rowdy group and weren't playing loud music but obviously with 16 people talking there may be some noise for short periods before we leave for our night out on the town. They threatened to kick us out for this on numerous occasions and so I therefore would not recommend this hotel for groups or young people. So if you want the quiet life, go to Marni.
Highly Recommended
Marni Village is located in the North Eastern tourist centre of Crete, about 10 minutes walk uphill from Hersonissos the tourist centre on the coast. The apartments themselves are situated in the small village of Koutouloufari, which is much quieter, prettier and more traditional than Hersonissos itself. Koutouloufari has a narrow road running through it to the next village of Piskopiano, which is at the same level as the Marni so you don't have to walk up or downhill to enjoy its lovely retaurants and bars. It is definately more traditional than the main tourist area; though there is a large sports bar and a few places offering full English breakfasts, the majority of the restaurants are Cretan and are fantastic. The Marni complex itself is built into the hill so the accomodation furthest from the front gate is up a slope, but it would be no problem for any person in normal health, and the mountains behind give it a lovely setting. The apartment we had was spacious and clean with a furnished balcony overlooking the pool with the sea in the distance. The main pool area is lovely, though as it was the end of the season (October) the smaller pool wasn't open. The complex was so quiet it was almost unnerving at times (though very restful), but I'm sure it gets pretty busy in the summer season. Having said that we had lovely weather all week. Went on some trips organised by the holiday company, the coach picks you up very close to the hotel and it means you can see a bit of the real Crete without any hassle. For the more independent traveller the nearest bus stop is down the hill in Hersonissos. The location of the complex would not be ideal for serious beach lovers as the beaches are 15/20 minutes away in the main resort but the pool area, and the villages were so lovely we only went down to Hersonissos twice all week. Finally, I would describe the beds as 'firm' not 'hard' as some have, and they were perfectly comfortable. Can't really fault the Marni Apartments.
