Brlliant stay in a lovely hotel
10 / 10
Sep 2011, aud&tom

Our second visit to this lovely hotel, whose owners Mal & Katherine made us welcome from the minute we arrived, nothing is too much trouble for them. The room was bright and spotless with a v comfortable king-sized bed & generous complimentary drinks, biscuits & a bottle of mineral water for the 1st night. The bathroom was equally spotless, with a good hot shower & quality toiletries.Full English breakfast is the best we've had anywhere, with plenty of alternatives happily provided for anyone with a smaller appetite or different requirements. Well situated just ten minutes from the seafront & town, with a simple disc system for roadside parking outside the hotel. A very enjoyable experience altogether, due to the dedication, helpfulness and constant good humour of Mal & Katherine. We look forward to returning as soon as possible, booking directly by phone, which is the only way to get the best rate.

We stayed here for a five night break and could not have made a better choice, not having been to Scarborough before. From the time we arrived we were made to feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. We had a double room, which although not huge, was very comfortable and well-equipped with all we needed and the most comfortable bed I think we have ever had in a hotel, also spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were superb, with plenty of choice and served by friendly & helpful staff at all times.
The few simple, common-sense rules applied by the hotel ensured that all guests had a safe, relaxing stay in a quiet and friendly environment. Would have no hesitation in staying again on another visit. We are an'over 65' married couple, just for the record!

Excellent accommodation - but petty charges!

We stayed for 3 days and found the Raincliffe Hotel to have a very high standard of furnishings and to have a top notch standard of cleanliness. The full English breakfasts are huge and very nicely cooked and presented. Both owners go out of their way to be friendly and to make their guests stay as comfortable as possible. What more could anybody ask?
On the downside. We found it very niggling to find various small amounts of cash added to our bill. For example; we paid by credit card and had to pay £7.50 on top of the £243 bill. Debit cards also attract an extra charge - only cash is free! Evening meals are a fixed price (£12 for 2 courses) but if you want a coffee it’s an extra £2.50. They provide parking tickets for on-road parking outside the hotel - an extra £4! Although the August tariff says £32 - look closely it says 'from' - we paid £36 per night each!! We found all this to be very petty and disappointing. Why don't they just say £40 per night and cover everything? We would certainly feel better. Adding the bits feels like a rip-off!

  • Advice: Great 'hotel' - very hilly area

The service was great, the food is brill. This is now the fourth time we have been back and will definately be going back again and again. We now have two great friends mal and katherine the owners. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes walk from the beach and town centre. Everyone is so friendly.

The weather was dreadful however we were most fortunate to have booked at the Raincliffe. We were able to come back at any time during the day and how lucky we were. The hotel/guest house is spotless and very welcoming. Katherine and Malcolm were always happy to give advice and oh! those breakfasts. I managed to eat all my four breakfasts but I'm afraid my wife fell by the wayside. We could not eat anything else until we had dinner. The choice and quality was excellent and we had no need to trail around looking for a decent place to have our evening meal.A word of advice though. Do not go to the Music Hall at the Spa. We found it over-priced and embarrassing although the company did their best to entertain. We intend to come back to the Raincliffe again and will certainly recommend it.

A great choice!

When you're booking a few days' break in a place you don't know well, you have to browse on the internet and then take a chance. Our chance choice was the Raincliffe Hotel - and what a happy chance it was! It was welcoming, relaxed, and spotlessly clean . . . and it was just a short stroll down the road (through very pleasant gardens) to the seafront. It really did feel like home for a few days - a warm home, too, in chilly October! The owners are enthusiastic about meeting their guests' every need. If we are in Scarborough again, the Raincliffe's where we'll be.

Never been to Scarborough before and...

Never been to Scarborough before and we were only visiting to attend a wedding. We were made to feel so welcome by both the owners. We felt really comfortable, and were never made to feel that any request was a problem. They bent over backwards to make our stay very pleasant, even to the point of offering to make us sandwiches for lunch (they don't do lunches!) before we left for the wedding, which were very welcome as the wedding breakfast wasn't served until 5pm! The hotel has recently been rewired, replumbed, redecorated, and extended and was far more than a B&B, more like home from home. I'd recommend it for cleanliness; in the bedrooms: quality toiletries, digital TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee/biscuits, plenty of hangers; good wholesome and extensive breakfasts; and the most pleasant couple just brimming over with enthusiasm and only too willing to help. If I go to Scarborough again, I shall know where to stay!
