Well reading some of these reviews makes me feel as if I stayed at another hotel!
We arrived about 8 O Clock at night. Was informed the air conditioning was another £25 per week and the safety deposit box was a tenner. Went to our room which was smaller then we were used to. Put air conditioner on, and found it was near useless.
The £25 would have been better spent on a fan! The bathroom had a shaver socket hanging from the wall and we twice had to ask for toilet rolls from reception as the maid seems to think you can make do with one roll (for two people) for a week!
The carpets are dingy and altogether the room looked depressing.
The hotel serves a Turkish breakfast which is not to my liking but could be to other people.
The pool area is small, but this did not concern us as we spent our time on the beach, literally 20 yards from the hotel.
The beach boy, while you are on the beach, will cater for all your eating and drinking needs.
The hotel has a drag queen act on every night. If you are a light sleeper you will not be able to get to sleep before 1 O Clock. The show is very loud!
The Mehtap is however positioned perfectly. It is central for everything, and this is probably the best thing about it.
All in all I was not particularly impressed with this hotel and would not recommend it. Having now been to Marmaris and looked around, you should be able to find a more suitable hotel. Price we paid £390 each B & B (plus £25 for the air conditioning!)

Aug 2007, Miss C Hall

I’ve been to Marmaris twice now and stayed at the Methap this time and it was brilliant!!! We were on a b&b board although the breakfast was not the best it was ok, and that’s the only thing I can fault with this hotel.
The staff were amazing so friendly and happy all the time, nothing was too much trouble they went and fetched your drinks and went you are getting ready they will bring them to your room for you.
Great beachfront location although I never went on it, I went in the pool everyday which was big, the only downfall its all one depth which is nearly 6 foot so I had 2 get my little boy a boat to float round on, another thing I found nice was the staff were always really good with my son always playing games with him dancing and joking about with him they all loved him.
Entertainment was brilliant!! Bella beserk the drag queen was brilliant she did a different act every night so it never got boring, there was also break dancers they were great to and the singers Barry and Sarah were great too.
All in all it was a lovely, lively, clean and friendly hotel!! I would defiantly go back because you’re made to feel so welcome; I had many a night up till gone 4 chatting to the staff there.
Brilliant holiday, brilliant hotel, and brilliant people!!!!

Last year was our third time to...

Jul 2007, Miss M. D Donnelly

Last year was our third time to turkey, and 1st staying in Mehtap!
The year before we stayed in the Mert which didn’t have much to offer, the staff weren’t very helpful and the sea view we had to look sideways! Then in 2006, me and my mum arranged to go with friends from up north, this year we would broaden our choices and found the Mehtap.
Looking at the reviews and information the hotel offered we thought it would be a perfect choice, as me 15 and Tara turning 16, the hotel arranged a surprise for her birthday! They provided drinks and all the waiters harmonised together singing "happy b-day" then they all threw her up in the air and wished her the best, the manager ishan is very helpful, he’s funny and tries his best to give the best possible service.
Any problems will be sorted out that day and the waiters are lively, entertaining, helpful, charming and are great people. The bedrooms are standard size with sliding wardrobes; the bathroom is clean quite spacious.
The room depending on where you’ve stated to stay can have a beach view which is amazing, overlooking the bachus restaurant and pool, you can see cruise ships and mountains, and the beach in itself is beautiful with sun loungers and umbrellas provided.
For anyone that has a taste for ice cream, a short walk to the restaurant you will find some :) along the promenade are many clubs restaurants, which offer something for people with different tastes, last year when I stayed in the hotel Bella beserk provided an entertainment show which included me singing some Jlo and Britney songs. The food is delicious; the people are so friendly and will help as much as they can.
At night time there is allot of noise but last year being 15 wasn’t a problem. Many takeaway places provide food until early hours of the morning, and all restaurants had different themes and the people different characters staying in the Mehtap was a brilliant experience as staying there only once we hope to go there this august.
This will be our forth time to Marmaris and hopefully not the last, its a second home and being there they are very welcoming people, after being there 3 times me and Tara still cant wait to go.
And honestly to anyone who had read bad reviews on this hotel, there isn’t anything bad about it because if problems occur or situations get out of hand they will be dealt with, and if I didn’t like the hotel I wouldn’t be going back, its far from bad and close to excellent!!!!
All those who made our holiday worthwhile in the hotel, hope to see you again.

We have just returned from 14 nights...

We have just returned from 14 nights at the Mehtap, and are booking (via Ishtan, the owner) to go back for a week in September. It's in a great beachfront location and is perfectly situated to explore Marmaris in all directions.
We lost count of the number of people we spoke with who had stayed at the Mehtap before, and were coming back again in the future.
We could not fault the hotel, room was basic (as expected in a 3 star) but spotlessly clean, and everything worked, with maid service every day. Service in the Bachus restaurant, whether for breakfast, snacks, or dinner, was terrific, and food was of a very high standard.
The show finishes at 1.00am, and the noise from the 60s'/70s'/80s' bar quietens down at the same time (bar closes at 2.00am) we were rarely in our room prior to 1.00am and had no problem whatsoever with noise.
Staff were all fantastic, hello to Geordie, Charlie, Billy, and Michael, Film Star, Excuse Me, and all the rest of the lads, who do everything possible to look after you and make you feel welcome.
Spent most days on the hotel beach where Mohammed (Alex) looked after us all day long. Sorted (free) sunbeds and parasol, drinks, snacks, all to your sunbed and always with a big happy smile.
Would recommend the Dilek bar (turn left outside hotel and first bar as you cross the bridge, only 30 yards or so) where the staff create an amazingly friendly atmosphere. Regards to Hakan, Ali, Sonny, and all who made a fuss of our 16 year old son, always laughing and joking with him (we were even invited to Hakans' wedding in the bar whilst we were there and had a great night.
The standard of food in every restaurant we ate in was of the highest possible quality, and very reasonably priced. Look for the Full Monty Restaurant, 5 course set menu, with fillet steak, for 18.50 YTL (£7.50) with large beer 2.00 YTL (under £1.00) We ate in 11 different restaurants during our stay and were never less than totally satisfied.
All in all the Turkish people we met proved to be the friendliest and most likeable you could ever wish to find. I genuinely believe that they would take it as a personal insult if you are not enjoying yourself.
If you're looking for a perfectly positioned and reasonably priced 3 star hotels, with good basic facilities and a warm and friendly atmosphere, then stay at the Mehtap, you won't regret it. We're going back in 6 weeks, and fully intend to go back again next year.

This hotel offers a great location...

Jun 2007, Mr J Gronow

This hotel offers a great location for the beach during the day, but turns into a Blackpool type "Golden mile" in the evening. The room was clean with a good sea view, however the air conditioning and safe is charged at £35 for the week and with last weeks temp getting into the mid forties it was the only way to survive.
The breakfast is basic and the same each morning. Hygiene was poor at breakfast with grubby cups and plates but we had no ill effects.
We decided to eat out each night at the marina end of town where the restaurants are in a much nicer location and attract a more sophisticated clientele.
The main criticism of this hotel was the cabaret which was very loud tasteless repetative and would be more at home in a back street men’s club than family entertainment in what was a good value budget hotel.
The staff were very polite and helpful. So to sum up our holiday it was good value, the hotel was fine in the day, but just so noisy in the evening.

Fantastic hotel. All staff there to please. Rooms very clean, pool not to bad but went on beach as step out of hotel your on the beach and do they look after you.
The guys are smart and great entertainers. The hotel restaurant very good, a visit to the Chinese underneath the hotel is a must, good value for money.
Location of hotel is fantastic no matter which way you walk, being beach front there is all sorts of entertainment. Lots of pubs clubs restaurants and fantastic views.
This was our 8th year in Marmaris but first time in Mehtap, and will not be the last.
We are on our way back in Aug and please please a visit to 60s 70s bar next door is a must.
Big thank you to ali and staff who made our holiday and to all Turkish people or should I say friends.

Jun 2007, Miss K Mattinson

I've been to Turkey before but never at this hotel. I was getting married in Turkey so decided to stay in the Mehtap for 9 nights, we chartered a boat for 3 then stayed in the hotel again for 2 nights. It was the best time of my life.
The wedding on the boat went amazingly however I was looking forward to coming off the boat and going back to the hotel. The location is perfect! It is directly on the beach front with loads of bars and restaurants to hand!
The people at the Mehtap were so friendly! We already new the Turks were friendly but this was unbelievable! They were constantly asking how our wedding plans were going and how many days were left, they genuinely seemed interested!
The food in the hotels restaurant (Baccus) was out of this world, I recommend the Turkish dish, Ottoman Special! It was Fantastic! Most of the people who came out with us had never been abroad before, but some are even looking at going back there in September.
Their flight had been delayed so didn't arrive at the hotel until around 1am, which we then stayed up at restaurant till 4am. The bar was supposed to close at 2am but because they had been delayed they stayed open especially for them and refused others.
It was a fantastic holiday and made some lovely friends, can't wait to go back to see Steven, Charlie and Benji and all the others that names I can't remember! The entertainment finished at 1am and all the music got turned down then and finished at 2am, so it’s not too bad in my opinion for anyone of any age! I love this place!

We just got back from staying at the Mehtap for a week, had a brilliant time. The location is excellent right on beach front, no need for taxis or dolmus. The rooms are basic but clean, we asked for a room change as we were looking out towards the back of the hotel it wasn’t a problem changed it straight away.
The food in the restaurant is also very nice and they have a show on every night. I would stay here again no problems.
We used the sun beds on beach outside Santana bar which is just along from Mehtap, staff are very nice there.
The cream bar is very nice also on beach front a bit further along Mustafa the owner is nice and Erkan one of the waiters is lovely he took us for the best chicken kebabs ever!!

May 2007, Mrs T Dimblebee

This was a holiday chosen as a present for my mother’s forthcoming 60th birthday as she had been to Marmaris last year, and raved about the place.
My husband didn't want to go as he never liked the idea of Turkey, but after our stay he loved it, we are hoping to get back in Sept if not then next year.

The staff were great and accommodation good, but we also had approx £10 added to our bill when eating at the Buchhas restaurant, therefore we spent most nights eating in the Ries bar, just a walk over a little bridge where Ricardo and Akhim make you so welcome and give special deals e.g. kids eat free, free garlic bread and first drink, they are a double act and definitely worth a visit.
The Angel restaurant on the main road behind Methap serves English breakfast with pork sausage (not hotdog sausage) and there evening meals were fab, large portions and very good value.
The Tajh Mahal Indian restaurant on the main road strip was a fantastic as they say and the food was better than home Indians.
One thing I definitely recommend is a Turkish bath, what an experience.

May 2007, Mr F Loy

Nice welcome from the locals and manager from Newcastle. I will be going back because it was so friendly and relaxing.
The half board basis was ok if you like chicken but other things on the menu were excellent. Local entertainment to be recommended.
Room was tidy and looked after by cleaning staff, we had a TV in the room but not very clear picture.
Water was cold some nights but was on the whole ok.

May 2007, Mrs T Cross

If you are looking for a loud, noisy & not pool holiday then this is the place for you!
My partner & I have just spent 2weeks there & we didn’t get to bed any one night till way after 2am.
The music is unbearably loud from the Methap hotel & if you're unlucky enough to have a room near the front, then the music from the 60's & 70's bar is just as loud & goes on even later.
The rooms are clean & comfortable but the pool was dirty & there were only 12 sunbeds around the pool area, so if you had a lie in from the blaring music all night you wouldn’t get a sunbed.
The hotel food & drinks in the Bacchus restaurant are extremely expensive & that’s without what the waiters add on top of your bill!
All in all we would recommend this hotel for club 18 - 30's not for couples, families or pensioners.
