Just returned from Marmaris at the Methap Hotel. Enjoyed our stay there myself and my two sons aged 11 and 8. Hotel is perfectly situated for beach in front, Marmaris town/harbour to the left and waterpark and Icmeler to the right.
Would have Enjoyed my time there More with a bit more help from hotel staff, I and numerous other families had the task of arguing with hotel staff/management to secure the sleeping arrangements we all had booked and paid for. Plenty of families were given two single beds to sleep on and told to push them together to sleep two adults and one child or in my case one adult and two children. Don’t be short changed you’ve paid for it so insist on one bed per person.
Drinks and meals at the hotels two bars and restaurants are not cheap and walk a few yards in either direction to find more choice at a better price look before you leap lots to choose from. air conditioning broke twice whilst there took 6 complaints and five days to resolve and really needed it as it averaged between 100F and 110F in August.
Power supply went off briefly twice, toilet broke once reported twice took two days to fix, reported broken light bulb in bathroom twice still not replaced after three days. Worst point for families is I booked the Mehtap for the children’s pool and beachfront location but to my horror the children’s pool has been filled in leaving one pool with no shallow end (approx 5.5ft deep) Whilst staying there a waiter thought it would be funny to push my 8 year old son in the pool who cannot swim, I didn’t laugh!
The beach is only yards away from the hotel and is lovely but alas not sandy but stony and a but uncomfortable on your feet. Hotel was really clean and well located. Breakfast is Turkish and didn’t like (olives, bread, cheese etc) so had breakfast at Kaplans every morning (turn right out of hotel and right again) Full English for 2 pounds. Air conditioning costs approx 45 pounds for two weeks and safety deposit box cost approx 10 pounds for two weeks. Beware not all rooms have excellent sea views as stated in holiday brochures and some rooms overlook next hotels kitchen and rubble so don’t be conned.
To summarise nice hotel if you get the right room and service , don’t put up with second best and don’t accept any less than you have paid for, but most of all enjoy the location and wonderful views when you wake of a morning (sea view). Pool now has a sliding cover which doubles as a stage for evening entertainment, you will be hassled to vacate pool at approx 4.30pm which in my opinion in the very hot weather is too early and will leave you frustrated with the surrounding hotel pools left uncovered all night.
I stayed there for two weeks and every night found somewhere different to eat and drink more cheaply. A bottle of water at the poolside 1.09 but fifty yards away 0.22 pounds at the corner shop. Be wise don’t be ripped off, Enjoy your holiday!

June of this year we stayed at the Mehtap hotel. Being a party of seven, we were cautious of how the hotel would be as it can sometimes be difficult to accommodate such a big group of people, especially as the ages within our family ranged from five to fifty five years.
Fortunately were all extremely pleased with the standards of not just the hotel but the personnel of the staff. We were overjoyed to find two English girls working in the hotel who both helped us with anything we needed and made our holiday that little bit more enjoyable.
Situated outside the hotel are two restaurants. one international and one Chinese restaurant serving lovely food and providing an excellent service throughout the day. (Paul - excellent head waiter!!!). The prices were very reasonable so this was the first holiday we actually went home from with money left over!!!!!!!
We found the hotel extremely clean with the housekeepers providing an excellent service. Most days they would leave bunches of flowers on the dressing tables and beds! We honestly could not believe how kind and friendly everyone who worked at the hotel were. We found by the end of the holiday we had made friends with them all and will keep in contact through out the winter.
My one complaint is only that it was just too hot! But thank you to all at the Mehtap hotel. will definitely see you all next year!!!

I recently stayed at the Mehtap Hotel earlier this year. I booked with Thomas Cook and was pleasantly surprised as the hotel is newly refurbished.
I stayed in an excellent room and the view from my balcony was amazing. My parents were issued the suite room by the manager for their 50th wedding anniversary and the outside restaurant (Bacchus) made a big party for them. Really made their holiday!
Turkish night provided for hotel guests was good fun. Staff are was very friendly and receptionists very helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Will be back next year.

Great.......Marmaris as usual was heaving and Rocking.
Be warned if you are thinking of going in August. ...ITS HOT , AND I MEAN HOT....90 deg was the norm and that was at nine in the morning.
The Mehtap hotel...
A 64 room hotel right on the beach with all rooms having balconies overlooking the bay, nothing better to wake up to than a great relaxing view (well there is but they wont let me tell you about that :-)))))
The hotel its self is basic. Rooms are nothing to shout home about but would suit younger people who are just looking for a base for the late bars that are all along the beach.
The owner has just refurbished some but I think only by a lick of paint. This winter I believe he is installing double glazing for all the rooms ,which will help to reduce the noise from the Fun Bar which is sited on the Ground Floor.
The STAFF.
Great bunch of lads most of who can’t do enough for you always ready for a laugh (or for nicking your cigs if you have English or Marlboro).
Also the hotel has its own eating establishment THE BACHUS good food at a reasonable price , or you can pick the 5 courses for £4.50...(you may find you cant eat large meals in this heat) so this 5 small courses is just right.
Prices for Beer started at 1.500.000 TL for a small beer going to 5.000.000 TL for a large beer depending on where you go. LOOK AROUND FOR BEST PRICES.
The pool at the hotel is well kept and cleaned every morning by one of the lads...but the shallow end is just under 2 meters deep (which upset the wife as she’s only 5 ft and I wouldn’t take my foot of her head ;-)))).
Tours and Trips.
Book them yourself at booths all over Marmaris cheaper than Reps. I recommend the Turkish Night...Transport ,3 course meal all the wine or beer you can drink three to four hours entertainment for £15. The other trip worth doing is the lazy day boat trip 7-8 hrs relaxing on a boat with mooring up for a swim in the cool clear waters around the bay (again all the local beer or wine you can drink.... ITS GREAT THIS PLACE LADS.) cost £10 or less.
Fancy a day out of the hustle and bustle of Marmaris...take a water Taxi to Icmeler or Charunc cost £2.50 each way relax on nicer beaches or drink cheaper beer and chill. The other way to get around in Marmaris is the infamous ‘DOLMUS’ (means literally STUFFED in Turkish and when you get on some of them you’ll know why) most are not to packed , any ride is 1.000.000TL (ABOUT 40 PENCE) a cheap way to get around.
THE BAZAAR.
do you like being hassled every yard? Shop owners stopping you under any pretext trying to get you into their shop. This is the Bazaar. If you just say NO then they will leave you alone ...TILL THE NEXT TIME YOU PASS. (You do get used to it.)
There’s loads more to see and do , to much for this report.
Don’t just think about going...GO GO GO.
All in all a great place to stay especially as the Holiday for two weeks only cost us £350 each with Perfect Choice Holidays.

We booked our annual holiday as a family of 4 at what we were told was a family hotel. We specified that we didn’t want to stay in a hotel that was loud and noisy in the evening...unfortunately the Mehtap becomes incredibly noisy with loud club music until 1am and it's impossible to sleep at all until then and then you're woken up intermittently by stragglers that have decided to remain downstairs and revel it up until 4am...so very little sleep is had by all especially if you want to make it to breakfast which closes at 9:30am.
The hotel itself is fine. The rooms are serviced daily and the accommodation is fine, although the room my children shared had rather grubby walls with all sorts of unidentified substances smeared on them!
The pool was the biggest let down. It is not cool or sparkling either. Most of the guests were quite happy to swim in it, but on the few occasions we ventured into the pool it was lukewarm, cloudy and due to a highly inadequate filtration system had a collection of hair etc floating on the surface. We reported this to the Rep, but although it was looked into nothing changed and we looked longingly at the pools in the neighbouring complexes where the water was clear and the bottom of the pool could be seen at all times. On our last day at the hotel we looked down from our 4th floor room at the people swimming in the pool and could not even see their legs through the cloudy water...very unhealthy!!
The hotel attracted a "yob" element into our 2nd week and we had to contend with loutish behaviour in the pool as well as the doors of the elevator being kicked in on the 2nd floor, which rendered the lift unusable for a day or two.
A complete let down after a wonderful stay in Santorini last year at a superb hotel with a lovely clean, cool clear pool that was available to swim in until 10pm! The Mehtap pool is closed over for the night at 5pm so that they can have their various raucous stage acts which are really not very good. I'm sure the guests would far rather swim until the early evening and have a nice quiet meal at the hotel steak house, rather than attempt to have a conversation over the racket!
We will certainly not book another holiday like this, but look at self catering in a villa in order to get away from the bad behaviour and noise we experienced on this holiday.
Marmaris is a lovely destination with beautiful scenery and we had some wonderful days out when we hired a boat and explored the coves and swam in the aquamarine water away from the rowdy crowds. The Turkish people are very friendly especially those from the outlying areas. The pushy shop owners and restaurateurs do get to be a bit much especially as we all love to browse in shops without the overt hassle that occurs in every single shop even as you just walk past!!! We went on the ferry to Rhodes for the day and what a difference...! You could shop with ease and browse and really enjoy just soaking up the experience of being in such a different culture.
I would recommend the Mehtap if you like holidaying in a night club! But if you want a good break where you have the option of going to nightclubs and staying up until all hours then the Mehtap is not the hotel for you. You will come back home tired and a bit fed up!
