Astral Apart Otel

My mother in law and I stayed here for one week and I sat in the bar area and sobbed that first night!. When we arrived we were offered a room with a double bed!! Now I like my mother in law but a double bed! The room was also very shabby and dirty looking. We were then shown a further three rooms before settling on one. I then immediately went out and purchased cleaning materials and scrubbed the place from top to bottom, after taking a series of photographs of the dirt. The shower curtain almost made me sick. The inside of the fridge was disgusting, the toilet was dirty (if you know what i mean) the kitchen sink was a disgrace. The bedding and chairs had stains on them and god only knows what had caused the stains. The decor was poor, the balcony plastic furniture had seen its day. The drinks at the bar were really expensive. We paid £16 british pounds for a whisky and lemonade and when paying we often never received our change! The pool looked dirty and I never at any time saw anyone clean it. The meals were horrible with the cheapest bits of chicken. Breakfast was traditionally turkish, so I ate nothing as I dislike cucumber, tomatoes, olives, boiled eggs and passed on the bread and jam as it was always covered in flies. We found a lovely restuarant across the road called "Cheers" and spend most of our time there and down the beach and on tours so that we spent as little time as possible in Astral. My advice is DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING TO THIS PLACE. IT IS A NIGHTMARE. and I haven't even told you the whole story. If you've already booked, then good luck cos you'll need it.

I have just returned from a two week holiday which started from the 12th
August and returning on the 26th. I was with my partner and two children
aged 14 and 9. I was transferred from Antalya airport to the Astral
Appartments. On arrival we were left at reception in soaring heat waiting
for someone to greet us. I carried my cases to the pool bar and was greeted
by a man who called himself The Boss. He led me to the reception area and
welcomed me by telling me we were in Paradise. Once in reception he told me
if I wanted air conditioning I would have to pay for this which was 210 lira
and a safety deposit box which would cost 7 lira a day all of this I thought
was provided anyway.
I was then shown to a room which resembled a run down shack It was in a
terrible state and all of it was very unhygienic. The toilet and kitchen
were disgusting there was no clean cooking utensils and kettle. The decor
was terrible and on one wall there was a picture of a naked women with a
snake. Our room was never cleaned and when clean towels and bed linen were
needed we had to chase staff around. All the family got diarrhoea and
sickness on separate occasions and I put this down to the hygiene. The pool
was a milky colour for the first week and was very reluctant to let my
family in the pool. The outside of the pool was damaged and no upkeep was
ever seen. On our second day I was met by two German reporters who had been
told about the Astral and it's Boss who I believe was some type of
gangster. I let them no it was a shambles and they would confront this man
if they could get more proof.
The Rep for Med Hotels had a disgusting attitude he did not work to help us
he was all for the Astral. If we had any grievance he was not interested in
anything we had to say. I've had a very disappointng time in this apartment
which me and my family suffered for 2 weeks.

the rooms were dirty. we had to buy in cleaning products to make it liveable. the staff had a bad attitude, they could not care less . the breakfast was boiled egg, bread, butter , jam, tomatoes, olives and cucumber. the site needs a lot of work doing to it to make it a decent standard.

This has put me off booking seperate accommodation on the internet as this turned out to be a bit of a dissapointment to put it mildly. The description was reasonable on the website, it was a 3 Star rating but I should have taken notice of the low cost, despite it being an apparent cancellation and the distinct lack of reviews from previous customers.
Firstly a Turkey 3 Star rating is equivalent to a UK zero star or less - actually I have stayed in better B&Bs! We arrived around 10:30pm, unfortunately during a power cut and were promptly seated at the poolside bar and given a drink - there appears to be one young girl (Mona) who single handedly does everything from cleaning, customer care, barmaid etc...whilst the male management seem to strutt around giving all their attention to the younger female guests. There are quite a few apartments on the site so little wonder one person is unable to maintain a minimum level of hygiene. It was evident that we were not expected and we were told that the room would not be ready till he following day due to some problem with the toilet? We were eventually given what seems to be a 'holding room' for the night (as others also were given after us) and it was absolutely disgusting - smelly, filthy, badly maintained decor and paintwork with the bathroom/shower too dirty to even take a shower. Being so late we had little choice but I impressed on them that I expected significantly better when we were relocated the next day. We didn't even unpack anything, take a shower and had to sleep in our clothes in case we caught something nasty.
It was lunchtime the following day after much chasing that we were given our room - clearly they were waiting for the previous occupants to check out before they could 'prepare' the room for us. When we moved into the room it was still being cleaned (carpet cleaned with a broomstick no less!). It was either walk out and spend more money to find something reasonable elsewhere but we decided that after a trip to the shops for cloths, bleach etc...it was just about bearable. In the end we spent all day away from the place and literally used it to sleep and 'sort of' have a shower (taps and plastic jug as shower head was clogged and had no pressure) and go back out to eat till bedtime! In their favour the AC worked okay in the room and the bedsheets were clean - however the towels were only changed once in the week that we were there.
The pool got progressively cloudy as the week went on and we never used it - probably due to their allowing kids to play right into the early hours and no down-time to carry out the necessary chemical cleaning - I saw this being done only once during the week.
The rep for the hotel chain said that when we you 'pay this kind of price, you get this standard' - to some extent I do agree with this but not to the extent that basic hygiene is overlooked.
In the end we managed to avoid this spoiling the complete week but it really did take the shine off the holiday in Turkey. It's a lesson learned - make sure you find out what star rating equates in UK terms, you really do pay your money and you take your choice so always check out reviews before you book...and beware if there are none to be had!! Astral Apartments probably need to be renamed to DISAstral Apartments and best left to the Russians and Dutch who seem to be much more at home there!!
