The Rhodos Rip Off Hotel
The hotels only positive note was a 10-15 minute walk to either of two Main ski lifts (Du Pleny + Super morzine), i stayed there 4 nites at a cost of £608, the room was very small with just enough room for a double bed, wardrobe and space to squeeze past. The bed sheets and matress were very poor, along with a radiator next to them. Which means when your ski gear gets soaking wet as does usually happen due to the snowfall then you have no where to dry all of it for the next day as the radiator doesn't get hot. This may sound petty, but is essential for a SKI Resort. I have to agree with the other review, being massivly over priced for example £7 for a bottle of magners or £2.60 for less than a can of draft coke. Not only have they ripped you off with the room price they then go and cane you for food and drink with a full english for £11.50. However, we did have our meals in the price; this was good until.we sat down at 6:30 and still hadnt recieved our dessert by 8:30. As the waitress went home and there was not enough staff, hello? im paying £150 a night. Crazy when you can get a gorgeous stone baked pizza from across the road for £6.50. If you like to check in or have decent communication with the hotel, then again steer clear as the reception is the bar. Noisy and inconvient when you have a problem during the night. Any decent well run hotel tells you the check out time when you check in. However, not the Rhodos hotel; we found out at 9:20 check out was at 10, and i quote the maids comment ' it says on the plastic card but noone ever reads it...' well don't you think you should tell them then you idiot. Nope, they will charge you for another night. Half of our party of 16 had a lesson that day aswell, missing 45 minutes again wasting more money. This hotel is set up to extract as much money as they can from you, whilst giving you the least possile amount of customer service and value for money.... Please do not make my mistake and steer clear of the Rhodos Hotel! Like anyone i don't mind spending my money or paying a bit more due to location, But this was a complete joke. And if you do go there...be it at your Peril.
Quality stay in the Rhodos plus the best snow in years
We have just come back from a fantastic holiday in Morzine. We booked through Morzinelets.com and stayed in the Hotel Rhodos as recommended. I found the rooms clean and tidy with everything i needed. Its location is in the centre of Morzine which made the whole trip so much more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. Ive stayed in Morzine before and i would deffinatly recommend the Rhodos to friends and family plus the snow was the best ive seen in years.
Great time
Stayed at the Rhodos for a ski weekend, pre-season opening. The hotel is in a good central location with a short walk up to the other restaurants and bars. We arrived late Friday night and were picked up at Geneva by the hotel and transferred back in time for a tasty burger in the bar. In the morning we were driven to get our skis at the rental shop and then to the lifts. We had pre booked these on the website and were very happy with the equipment. More than that, by pre booking things there was almost no 'faffing around' for the whole weekend and we got in the max amount of skiing we could. The hotel itself has been refurbed recently and the bar area is very pleasant. Our room was great, particularly for the stars it has, much better than the two places I have stayed in val d'isere for more money. The hotel is well run and the staff are all very good. All in all we had a great weekend, were treated very well by the staff and management and would recommend it to anyone.
Over- priced and poorly run.
Our wonderful holiday in Morzine was only spoilt by Hotel Rhodos. Over priced and poorly run. Complaints to the owner at Morzine Lets produced no response at all. The arrival instructions sent us to the Ridge Hotel to check in, but it was closed for the season. Not an auspicious start. The Rhodos was eventually found more by luck than judgement, as we had no instructions on how to find it. Our room was adequate, though not spotless, but things went downhill from there. We have never stayed anywhere – not even the humblest B&B – where there was no room cleaning service. We had to make our own beds and the bathroom was not cleaned. It was quickly apparent that there was no electric socket in our room so we were unable to use a razor, hairdryer or charge a camera without standing on the landing. On day 3 we met a girl who said that she was just helping out, as there were no cleaners. We were able to request some toilet rolls as we had run out. She investigated the socket and found it behind the fixed headboard, unusable. We were then moved to a smaller room and that at least gave us clean towels, made beds and electric. The balcony was equipped with small buckets for cigarette ends but these were well stocked from previous guests. As non-smokers we found this distasteful, as was the mountain of butts in a dedicated flowerpot outside the main door where the manageress spent most of her time. The bar/restaurant area was full of flies – something we did not encounter in any other establishment we visited. It did not encourage us to eat there. In fact breakfast served with a fly swat would have been useful. There seemed to be a lot of friendly staff but goodness knows what they did because the place was a shambles. Had we been paying Youth Hostel prices then we would not really have cause for complaint. The website states “you couldn’t choose better accommodation”, “Quality in the Alps”. We do not think so.
Very Expensive and Nasty!
How disappointing!! What should have been a dream ski holiday turned into nightmare during our stay at Les Rhodos Hotel. We booked the hotel through the morzinelets website and were draft enough to believe the fantastic description of what sounded like a quality hotel, in a great location. My only reservation at the time was that it was the only property you could actually book on the website! Oddly, almost every one of the many properties on the morzinelets website are always fully booked, with the site re-directing you back to either the Les Rhodos Hotel or The Ridge hotel. Funny enough, I discovered later, that both are owned by the same person who also owns the website!?!!? The Hotel itself is based in probably the worse spot in the village for access to the lifts and the village centre. The website led us to believe it was in the centre, what they failed to mention that it’s in the old village, not the main centre where you really need to be. The lifts are a good 15 minute walk uphill! There is a bus service with a stop close by, but it was so unreliable and overcrowded we decided to walk to the slopes each day which was painful, but not as painful as the bus wait and trip. To add to this misery, the hotel then had a cheek to offer a shuttle service to and from the slopes, but for an additional hefty fee. The hotel staff also managed to convince us, with an over the top sales pitch, to hire our equipment from their shop, which was located in their other hotel ‘The Ridge’. This hotel wasn’t even situated in Morzine but in the next village some kilometres away. A ‘free’ mini-bus was made available to run us up there. However, on our last day, instead of skiing as we’d planned, no ‘free’ mini-bus was available, therefore the day was spent trying to organise how to get the skis back. We discovered during the week, the rental shops near the lifts were not only far cheaper, but had a far superior choice of equipment than the morzinelets shop! The hotel accommodation itself, although clean, had a cheap feel to it! After the amount of money we paid to stay there and the website description, we were expecting something of a superior quality. However, to our great disappointment, the rooms were tiny, smelt of drains and had a cold uninviting feel to them. The walls were paper thin and we were constantly kept awake with noises of people snoring, talking, doors slamming and revellers spilling out onto the street from of a number of bars and club situated below. Meal times at the hotel are also extremely unorganised, which is mainly down to the lack of staff and poor direction from the management. The evening meal could take up to 3 hrs, with half that time waiting for the next course to turn up! I could go on and on and on.... but you probably have quite a good idea already of what sort of establishment this place is. I will return to Morzine, which I think is an amazing resort, but I will definitely avoid these hotels and MORZINELETS.COM!!
terrible - don't stay here
The Rhodos is a terrible hotel. I would not recommend for anyone to stay there unless you are 18 and on a gap year. If this is the case, then you will unfortunately not be able to afford this over priced hell hole. - The breakfast is terrible - no coffee, no milk no cereal, no juice - The rooms are tiny and smell of drains - You cannot control the radiators meaning that you have to sleep with the windows open as the (tiny room gets too hot - The staff hang around in packs and make you feel uncomfortable for being there - It is far too expensive for what you get and you feel like you are being ripped off at every turn
Poor value and bad service
Morzine is a lovely resort, and the hotel was the only let-down of our holiday. After booking, I attempted to clarify a couple of details regarding our stay via e-mail. Getting a response took days and my questions were largely ignored. Despite being repeatedly sent e-mails about morzine-lets own transfer and ski hire services, we booked our own very efficient transfer through ski-lifts at a fraction of the price. And we found a great ski hire place in town (Les Graviers), who happily looked after our skis and boots each night to save us carrying them to and from the hotel (which was a good 10-15 minute walk from the lifts and town centre). Annoyingly, we were instructed by e-mail to collect our keys from the Ridgem but when we got there we were in fact told this was unnecessary. However, on arrival at Los Rhodos we were pleasantly surprised. The bar/restaurant is modern, clean and welcoming. And we were shown to our room (17) by one of the bar staff. Although tiny, it was clean and reasonably comfortable with a modern bathroom, a wardrobe and table. We were similarly impressed with dinner on our first night - the food and service were both good. However, the next day was more frustrating. A buffet breakfast was included in the price, but on no occasion was juice or coffee available until requested, and no-one seemed responsible for checking the food hadn't run out or clearing tables. After not being cleaned (and the air-freshener wore off) our room smelt increasingly of drains, and insufficient tables were available at dinner for all hotel guests (depite having to have dinner between 7-8 to make way for restaurant diners later). We also had to wait over an hour between courses, and when the main course did arrive, it was not properly cooked. And to top it off, on our third day no hot water or heating was available for the entire evening. The largely young and English staff were friendly at all times but there was clearly not enough of them to cater for the needs of the hotel guests, restaurant diners and cafe and bar visitors Les Rhodos attempts to cater for. I would happily put up with all of the above if I was paying youth hostel prices. But Les Rhodos tries to market itself as a quality hotel which it quite clearly isn't.
Fabulous company and service
Just back from 5 days at Les Rhodos, all booked through Morzine Lets who own the hotel. We had a fabulous time!!!! We stayed in rooms 3,4 and 16, not a thing wrong with them, clean, comfy beds, clean towels and lovely views, what more do you need on a skiing holiday??? Morzine Lets.com sorted out our transfers, ski hire and ferrying us around, the owner John was brilliant and made sure we knew all the best places to go in town, he has been there for 20 years and knows his stuff. If I have one complaint it was the smokey bar but all the bars are like this in France so its one of those things. I would also like to add that I have styaed at many 4 and 5 star hotels around the world and this place is easily a 3 star hotel not 2, I can not understand the previous negative reviews. Just call Clarissa or John and they will give you five star service!
Oh Dear!
The British owned Rhodos Hotel plumbs new depths of customer service. Told off repeatedly by the owner for failing to first check in at his other hotel 1 kilometer away, as apparently instructed by email we were then shown to our 'room' by his manager. Up in the attic our £110 per night with breakfast, tiny sloping roofed room, boasted barely enough space for two grown ups to stand up at the same time. Scantily furnished there was no bed side table; not a single drawer; not one shelf; one small chair and a free standing wardrobe. The bed was more of a large single than a double and consisted of a foam mattress with no support whatsoever. With two suitcases and ski boot bags etc in the room we were all but unable to move. The showeroom was similarly 'Lilliputian', the ill fitting shower door flooding the floor within seconds. A very polite request to the manager to either find us a bigger room or move us to another hotel was met by a promise to sort things out first thing in the morning. Unfortunately she then avoided us, would not come to the phone etc and obviously hoped that the problem would 'go away'. On informing the owner that night that I had instituted dispute proceedings with my credit card company he suggested that I leave his hotel but would not offer a refund. My perserverance paid off though and he eventually moved me to his other hotel, The Ridge, for the remainder of our stay. My suggestion is to look elswhere as there are many other much nicer hotels (and owners) in Morzine.
Very expensive for what you get,,,,,,
We stayed at the Hotel Rhodos in Morzine for a long weekend skiing in February 2007, having booked directly through Morzinelets website (as I understand, Morzinelets owns the Rhodos hotel, the Ridge hotel and a large number of chalets in Morzine). We were only staying for three nights, but the hotel insists you pay for a minimum of four nights - for which we paid Euro735 for a twin room with breakfast. By my reckoning, thats £121/night, (or in practice, £161/night for the three nights we were there - most people were there just for the weekend). I consider that to be a relatively expensive stay. Given the price we had paid, we were disappointed. I would say that the website is misleading. This is a quote from the Rhodos website ...the hotel is .... "....proof that a good price doesn't have to mean basic and that you can have great service, character and a fun time without breaking the bank.". In fact the hotel is basic. The rooms are very small - our friends double room (Room 10) was only just big enough for the bed. Our room (room 17) was big enough for two single beds side by side plus a small perimeter of space. There was little (nothing?) in our room other than the bed. No furniture , no telly, nothing. The bathroom had one of those mini 4 ft long baths. The rooms were however clean and in good decorative order. All of this I would have found perfectly acceptable had we not paid £160/night. On the subject of service.......well, ..... There is very little. When we checked in we were met by a morzinelets rep, but that was just so that she could persuade us to trek halfway across town to hire our ski equipment from their own shop by the Ridge Hotel(when there were perfectly good shops much nearer or more centrally located). There are no hotel staff on site. There is a staffed bar/restaurant downstairs, but this is a smoky public bar/restaurant frequented by locals and appears to have little to do with the hotel (you cannot, for example charge anything to your room, and if you want anything more than a croissant and filter coffee for breakfast then it will cost you...). The room documentation warns you that if you have not vacated your room by 10.30 each day then they cannot guarantee that the room will be serviced (in practice not a problem - but indicative of the level of service). It also mentions that there is a hotel bus/taxi available for hire (for Eur20/trip). On the final day we phoned the "rep" to ask if she could arrange for this taxibus to pick us up to take us back to the Ski-hire shop on the other side of town that we had been duped into using. But, no, at the time we had selected, the driver would be on the slopes. Basically, we were on our own. Again I wouldn't mind this "lean", low-labour business model if that was what I had paid for. Finally, although it was only a 10-15 minute walk into the town centre where the ski-lifts/bars/restaurants are located - this is too much for walking in ski-boots with skis on shoulder. Hence a bus is required back and forth each day. There are plenty of more centrally located hotels which appear to be much smarter, and no more expensive (if not cheaper). The Rhodos was fairly full whilst we were there and I think that they were just charging what they could get away with. But we left with a bit of a bad tase in our mouths, feeling that they were milking the situation with little concern for giving "value for money". Perhap this is symptomatic of the French Alps generally.......
