Hotel Mexicana

I received Venere confirmation that rooms at the Hotel Mexicana would be available from 2 pm.
My wife and I arrived at Juan Les Pins on a sunny Sunday at about 2pm. We had to park the car on the outskirts of town - the French had arrived en-masse for one of the first sunny week-ends in April.
After carrying our cases to the hotel we saw a notice on the door to the effect that the hotel would not open until 4 pm. We hauled the cases to a restaurant, had lunch and sat around till 4pm. The resort is lively and has a good selection of moderately priced (by French standards) eating places.
We arrived back at the hotel at 4pm. One other guest was waiting to get in - but it was still closed.No-one answered the door bell. I rang the contact telephone number on the door.The manager said he would be at the hotel in about 20 minutes. I cancelled the booking verbally and left the resort in disgust.
I was unable to get a refund from the hotel and Venere ignored 3 emails asking for help with a refund
Putting the resort and problem well behind us we headed off a few miles into the hills, to Mougins. This hill town has several excellent restaurants and views of Grasse and the Med (on aclear day).
