My partner and I really enjoyed our stay in the Elpis apartments. The room we were in was at the front of the apartment block with the balcony at the side of the building and even had a nice sea view. The scenery around the area is really beautiful and we loved having our breakfast on the balcony every morning.
The room was basic but well kept and comfortable. The Maid cleaned the room nearly everyday and changed towels and sheets every 2 days. There was a small dining table, a hob, fridge, pots, pans and kitchen utensils, so ideal for self catering. Air conditioning was available but we felt it was a bit pricey at 56 Euros a week but this is probably standard. We didn't use the pool or pool bar during our stay but it looked great fun for families.
The Elpis studios is a great base for wandering around Bali and close to one of the many beaches which is about a 5 minute leisurely stroll down the road. Bali is pretty hilly, you get used to it during your holiday but high heels would kill your feet lol!
There's plenty to keep your holiday interesting in bali and is just a perfect place to come to relax. The restaurants we thought were the best were Psaroupoula, to kyma, Valentinos, Family nest and Panorama.
If you enjoy snorkelling Bali is ideal and we spent hours looking at the fascinating sea life. I would also recommend going on a couple of trips during your stay, the Knossos trip was really interesting and well worth it.
On our last night in Bali we had a late flight so instead of keeping the room on for extra time we just went out all day(on a boat trip) and were able to get a shower in the evening in reception which was fantastic. The staff were all very helpful and our Rep Kathryn was great.
We will definitely be back sometime.

After sitting here at the computer working, I couldn’t stop myself from taking a look to see if any old friends I’ve previously made while holidaying in Crete, have had a kind word to say!
After reading the reviews I felt I knew them all, as they all had a very similar opinion as me. This shows just how unforgettable the lovely Bali is, we have been going now for six years, what keeps us going!
Well there is the best of everything there; it’s true, both for young families and couples.
The locals are genuine, friendly and caring, and I might add the tourist of all countries are friendly (if you take the time).
To stay at the Elpis Studio and Apartments is the most entertaining and relaxing holiday were privilege to have, Poppy and Demitri and their families are most hospitable, the apartments are very clean, the grounds are pleasing to the eye, the pool area is safe and well kept, the bar and pool staff are very friendly, all speak perfectly good English, thou now after so long our Greek is coming on very well thanks to them,
If your holiday is to be a sightseeing one, do go to Demitri and hire a car, so convenient having your car on the forecourt of your apartments, which is where he does the hiring from, his prices are the best, his free information most useful, if you want it, do ask.
To eat out in Bali is a personal pleasure of mine, I haven’t come across a taverna I don’t like, and the staff remember us year after year. Of course you have the choice of staying in, and cooking yourself, eating on your balcony just as nice, they have a shop with ample supplies, directly on the corner of the apartments very handy.
The evenings are based around eating out/in, but the apartments bar is open until late
for those get together with new friends.
All the family and friends we have introduced to the Elpis have taken our word, plus my photography (plenty of) and have experienced for themselves, Result! They love it too.
I could go on and on, but I say you have to go and see for yourself like we did, we fell in love with Bali, as I’m sure many people in the future will, you definitely get out of your holiday, what your prepared to put in, whether it’s just to relax, or explore, or both, happy holidays where ever you go.

The trip to Bali was my first family trip aboard.
It was an unforgettable experience for all of the 6 of us. Me coos I got into trouble with a bar man, and my family because they loved the apartments and the hotel.
Elpis is a very well kept, almost spotlessly clean hotel. The maid service isn't everyday but they do a pretty good job.
The apartment me and my sister shared was sparse but included everything one could want to make food and wash etc. It even included a kettle (not one you plug in but one you put on the hob). The kettle was the perfect addition to me as I am addicted to English tea.
The staff at the hotel were charming and spoke extremely good English. Nikos didn't speak as good English but he made up for it in sign language and enthusiasm.
He also loved throwing us in the pool. He didn't like it so much when we chucked him and his wallet in though!
Unfortunately the only problem with the apartments for my brothers and sister, was the annoying holiday club next door for children.
Every morning without fail, we were woken up by the Dutch version of bob the builder.
By the end of the holiday I and my sister would sing along as we ate our breakfast.
Overall the holiday was brilliant and my stalker didn't wreck it for me.
However if you meet a man who says he likes you, beware. You may end up with an extra shadow for your holiday!!

We got a last minute deal with Kosmar at the Elpis Studios. We had an apartment for 4 and it was spotless. The cleanest and nicest apartment we have had in Crete (having been to Crete twice before).
We could not criticise our apartment at all. The pool was smallish but clean with plenty of sun loungers. The bar tender was very friendly but his desire to keep getting people wet or chucked in was sometimes rather irritating if all you wanted to do was sunbathe. I hasten to add we are in our 50's so maybe just call us killjoys! We hired a car from the Elpis and they gave us an extremely good deal (around £100 for the week for a brand new Fiat Panda). It felt good hiring car from same place we were staying and knowing that any trouble they would help us out.
September is a very pleasant time to go. One query only about the Eldis. We could see on the hillside opposite our balcony a night club. Now this wasn't open at all during the week we were there but we wondered how much noise this would have generated if it had of been open?
Not too many tourists - weather brilliant and uncrowded beaches. We just loved the furthest beach (20 min walk) - Evita Beach. The Taverna under the Evita apartments was excellent - so good in fact that after trying a couple of other tavernas out we eat there every night. Staff were lovely.
Swimming was excellent and sea crystal clear. Many places to visit up in the mountains and once off the main coast road it was very quite to drive around and we hardly saw any other cars. As long as you straddle the white line bordering the hard shoulder on the coast road to let people overtake the driving was quite easy.
We would recommend Bali to anyone for a visit in September. Just Bliss!

There were not many reviews about Bali, so we were unsure of what to expect other than it was a hilly resort so to take sensible shoes. This was true, Bali is a small resort with a few steep hills, but not as hilly as people made out and I wore small heels most nights out.
It is definitely best for families; there are no nightclubs and few bars. There are plenty of different restaurants and the food was fantastic! The beaches were small but beautiful, and in August the temperature was in the 30's and the sea was perfect. Not too many water sports on offer, but for the adventurous there are excursions available to other places.
Crete has a few different water parks that looked quite good too, although with a young child we stayed in Bali and found it entertaining enough. We stayed at the Elpis studios on SC basis. The apartment was roomy and clean. The staff were very friendly and the guy (Nikos) who serves at the bar was very popular with the teenagers, throwing them into the pool at any given opportunity!
The pool was small but rarely busy and we always had a choice of sun beds which was amazing (no Germans putting their towels down at 8am!) When eating out I would recommend the Balcony restaurant and the Gyros they serve there was delicious!
For anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing holiday with guaranteed sunshine I would definitely recommend the Elpis Studio Apartments in Bali.

My two teenage sons and I had a fabulous fortnight at the Elpis Apartments. The apartments are roomy, clean and well looked after, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Happy hour at the pool bar is a definite must - ask Michaelis for an ee bah gum cocktail! Then head into the village and choose a delicious, substantial and incredibly cheap meal. Whatever you do don't miss the 'pink mountain' at sunset.
Even in the busy season, Bali is laid back. It is a little off the beaten track, but the bus stop to Rethymnon is only a little over 1km ( we chose to ignore Lotti who mis-informed on a number of things). We managed for a fortnight without a car, but when we return this year I am going to brave hiring one so that we can extend our exploration.
Bali - a place to fall in love with.

July 2005 was my families 3rd visit and my 4th, the accommodation is superb, the owners have now become great friends and we feel like part of the family.
As for the bar staff, well they are fantastic, especially Nikos and Michaelos... Dimitris the owner has his own car rental, which is very competitive, they usually have a weekly Greek night in high season, where the food is in abundance.
My family and I have taken numerous friends back to Elpis over the last 3 years and we have made many great friends who we keep in touch with and who return on a regular basis, the friendliness of these apartments and the owners will soon make you feel part of the family. The resort is safe, with superb beaches and water. Psarapoula, Alexanders and the Balcony are our favourite restaurants, where they all know us by name. The is paradise in Greece.
We are returning this July 2006 as a larger family, where we are even hoping to get married, and share with our Cretan friends and family.. PS regarding the reps, our 1st rep Helen, returns for her holidays every summer, and unfortunately Mark and Phillipa were having a baby last year, so we were left with, as quoted a very stern Lotti, Hopefully Mark will return for 2006 season.

This was our second visit to Crete but our first to this area. Bali is an attractive little resort set in a stunning location. The deep blue seas of the bay contrast to the mountains inland. Bali itself has all you need for a quiet relaxing holiday. Do not go if you like discos and fast food !
There are plenty of good mini-markets for the basic essentials, a centrally located cash machine and numerous quality bars and Tavernas. Particularly good were Psarapoula over looking the bay, and The Nest (even though the owner/chef cut the end of his thumb off whilst we were there!)
We did not have a bad meal in our 2 weeks holiday. For a quiet drink before dinner take time to walk the extra 100 metres to "The Sea View". This can be found up the steps past the harbour and then walking as far as you can without falling into the sea. It has beautiful views and the owners are particularly friendly.
Elpis apartments are excellent value for money. Modern and well furnished they are extremely clean and well appointed. A maid service was provided every day and they even give you toilet rolls! The bar and pool were clean and the bar staff very friendly.
However the pool area was dominated by one loud group and inconsiderate people would put towels on the sun beds at 9am often not coming down to use them till lunchtime! This did not affect us, as we are not pool people, but we could see it causing bad feeling amongst other visitors.
We would recommend hiring a car. We hired in advance from Moto Star. A car was waiting for us at the airport and we paid 230 euros for the full 2 weeks! Crete is a beautiful Island and is worth exploring.
Luckily we did not need the services of our rep. Just as well really as she came across as surly, uncooperative and was borderline obstructive. The evening before we left she insisted that we sign a disclaimer form as we were making our own way to the airport in our hire car.
She moaned that she would have to get up at 4.30am to see us off and then did not even put in an appearance on the morning of our departure. Luckily the mini bus turned up to collect the rest of the holiday party!
This was the only downside to the holiday and we would thoroughly recommend Bali and Elpis Apartments. In fact we are hoping to return for a week of "chilling" in September. Just one final word of warning.
If you do not like or have difficulty in walking do not choose Bali. It is very hilly, so much so in fact, which the locals refer to one slope as "Cardiac Hill".

Have just returned from a lovely 2 weeks in this beautiful resort of Bali in Crete. The studio, which we had was the best, we have ever had in Greece, with 7 power points and a shower curtain! The pool bar was pleasant, but the resort itself was really friendly, with no fast food places and plenty of lovely tavernas and quiet bars to sit and watch the sun go down over the beautiful bays. The two main beaches themselves were very clean and safe for children, with a level sandy bank once you get into the sea. Even the sunbed attendants were extremely friendly and helpful. We hired a car from the Happy Days car hire firm, whom we found were the best value for money in the resort and enjoyed touring the northern resorts and beaches. We soon got used to driving the "Greek way" and found the roads very good along the main highway. Unfortunately our rep and the Elpis owner could have been more helpful, which would have made our holiday perfect. A place and apartments, which we would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning to.

We had a fantastic holiday in Bali Crete, the resort of Bali is very pretty with lots of Restaurants and beaches.
The accommodation was very good the rooms were clean and very spacious.
The pool and bar area was lovely and the staff especially the bar staff were great fun.
The harbour in Bali is where a lot of the restaurants can be found along with the pirate bar!! This is quite a walk from the hotel - the owners do provide a mini bus service to the harbour for a few euros.
The weather was gorgeous and we’ve both returned with glowing tans!! I would recommend this holiday to couples and families. We are a couple who likes to spend everyday by the pool but if you wanted to explore Crete then Bali would not be the best base as the bus we were told was a 40 minute walk and their are no taxis based in Bali so it would cost you around 45 euros to go anywhere - but we didn’t need to leave Bali as it offered everything we wanted, and we can’t wait to return in the near future!

The apartments were nice with a pool bar penny that worked there was nice and spoke good English. The only bad thing was that the pool was small.
It was handy having the beach only a 3 minute walk away! And I suggest if you go there to go to the Porto Paradiso cocktail bar! The people that worked there were very welcoming and friendly and the beach is only a 20 second walk from it!
The Elpis owners were friendly and helpful with anything we had to ask.
Would defiantly go back there again.
