We decided to give our Dad a surprise 60th Birthday. Having discussed it with my brother in South Africa and sister in Australia we thought Mauritius would be a fine country for us all to meet. Hotels were too expensive for 11 of us and finding a self catering villa for our group was not too easy. My research took me to Pendene Villa which sleeps 11 and the description of the place attracted me to this property. As the contact number was for the UK I decided to give the owner ( Wendy )a ring. I was met with a pleasant lady who was very helpful and no amount of questions from me was too much bother to her. From the time of my first enquiry and landing in Mauritius I rang her about 6 times with various queries and each time she was curteous and very helpful.
As promised we were picked up at the airport and at the Villa the caretaker/manager ( Garcon )was waiting for us.
What a huge fantastic Villa, just as described on the owner's web site. It was very clean and fully equipped. The facilities were great and as we had 3 children the DVD's - Play Staion Games and indoor games came very handy.
The large swimming pool was an added luxury in the heat and the whole of the villa kept cool with air conditioning.
Garcon was there for any help and advice for booking Hire Car, shopping, booking reataurants ( lots of them nearby catering for all taste )organising trips and even got a Doctor to the Villa when my mother felt poorly.
My brother said deep sea diving was brilliant, us girlies thought the snorkelling was out of this world and the SPA just total luxury. We had a wonderful time and I hope as a potential guest you will too.
And yes, my father's face with lump in his throat and small tears in his eyes when he saw his family from S/A and Australia was priceless!!

Just had a fantastic 2 weeks in the paradise island of Mauritius. Wonderful country with friendly and helpul people. No hassle on the beaches as in other part of the world. We stayed in this palatial self catering villa called Pendene Villa. Absolute luxury. The caretaker manager Garcon and his family live in a beautiful cottage in the grounds and could not do enough for us without being obstrusive.
Fantastic restaurants to choose from. If you like seafood is a must.Indian, chinese, japanese, french, italian and local cuisine all nearby. Try local food which is delicious and cheap. Local rum with coke and beer cheap but very good. Try Phoenix beer. Absolutely great.
We were lucky to be 10 minutes walk from one of the best bathing beach. Plenty of other wonderful beaches. Went deep sea fishing ( expensive )but got absolutley achey and tired trying to land 25 kg white fin tuna. Try diving, absolutle wonderful. Trip on catamaram with BBQ to flat island so cheap and a must. Take some trips around the island - best way of seeing this beautiful country.
Shopping for food and clothes and gifts all closeby.
Try local fruits, some weird looking but absolutlely delicious.Caretaker very helful when we needed to hire a car. Public transport cheap.Port Loius the capital is a must - what madness!!!!
My wife has fallen in love with the place and we are booking again for next August. Give Pendene Villa a try. You won't regret it.

after getting married in mauritius in 95 we went back out in 97,it took us a while, then having children we decided to go back and show them where we had got married, what a excellent place, mauritius is wonderful the people are really friendly, beaches are fantastic,we stayed in pendene villa with its own swimming pool, which was 5 mins from grand baie and pereybere . it was so relaxing you could just chill out,or stay in the the pool all day, my children loved the beaches, the water is so clear the weather was really hot,but sometimes with a little rain on the night ,which cooled it down a little,we went on lots of trips, would recommend mauritius to everyone

mauritius is a fantastic place, i have been there three times but once with the children, twice we have stayed in a hotel but this time we stayed in a villa.the villa was big with its own swimming pool, there is a cleaner there,he will take care of you, shops are close by where you can buy your food, but everything is really cheap so go out and have food in the daytime ,go to the indian on a night it was good, people are really friendly, weather is hot, very good for children. beaches are lush. explore everywhere dont be frighted to go on the buses, go out on a night time and go into the bars, eat the local food at the side stalls, try the pineapple ,and coconuts, there great ,what a wonderful place.

We were met by the driver as promised from the airport, it took us about an hour on the van to get to the villa. Garcon & Bebe greeted us at the entrance of the villa along with the 2 dogs. The villa was spacious and there was plenty of things to do inside, the villa was clean, well maintained and had all the mod cons. I loved going to the spa which was about 10 minutes walk from the villa, so myself and my sister-in-law spent most of our time here. The beach was about 10 minutes walk away. The best place to eat in Pereybere was the Sealovers, the food was great and the view overlooking the beach was priceless. I would like to say though, It's best to hire a car as its 10 or 15 minutes on a taxi to get to Grand Baie, it took about 1 hour to get to Port Louis. Garcon has his own car, he will where possible drive you back & forth. There weren't many English speaking taxi drivers which caused us a few problems. However, Garcon gave us a contact for a taxi driver who always picked us up at the price and time agreed beforehand. We chilled out on the beaches mostly, we did go to crocodile island which was great, had a look at the waterfall and went to Gabriella Island on a boat as well. The only thing we missed out on because of lack of time was quad biking...so may have to come again next time to give that a go! All in all a fantastic holiday, the people were really friendly and the weather and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous
