Jul 2008, Mr J Hill

The poosition of this hotel could not be better, literally just across from the sea with the cliff lift behind and minutes from all shanklins attractions.
Food was basic but good and tasty with filling portions. all evening meals were three course and a good choice of breakfast meals. Staff very cherfull and hard working or at least the two we saw were.
The brochure siad the rooms were small and clean, bijou would have been a better adjective with only 6 ins from bottom of the bed to the wall. The shower room you sat on the toilet with your head over the washbasin and breathed in to get into the showersideways. For what we paid it was acceptable however some other rooms were not of good standard, smelt fusty and damp and were accessed across an open yard ( one had been an outhouse at one time, or via a rickety outside staircase with no lights, one couple were moved to another hotel )
Room facilities were reasonable TV hair dryer phone clock radio and TV, with soap and shampoo supplied. Entertainment was two very good singers the woman, Jules, particularly so
Overall not a hotel I would say you must stay at but as part of a very cheap package livable with for 4 days. No complaints re the David Urqhart part of the holiday, excursions and travel were very good I dont know how he does it at the price.

Terrific location, just across the road from the beach and at the foot of the cliff lift. A clean and smart exterior. Old fashioned interior. The catalogue advised that rooms were small, but that didn't prepare my friend and me for the tiny - tiny - ensuite shower room. You couldn't bend over the sink to clean your teeth if the door was shut!! I hope the video clip shows this.
Meals were fine - excellent breakfast with plenty of choice (and chosen at evening dinner the night previously), and well-prepared, well-presented evening dinner (chosen at breakfast that morning, so you had to think ahead). Evening dinner at 6.30 was a bit early for my taste, but suited the many older people who were on the coach tour. The two members of staff we met were friendly and efficient. They seemed to work all hours.
Evening entertainment for the four nights we were there comprised much Bingo, a TV with the sound turned down in the Bar, and a couple of adequate singers. There's a small dance floor.
The TV in our room gave no watchable picture whatever, allegedly due to us being in the shadow of the cliff,. However, it appeared to be connected to the main Hotel aerial which gave a perfect picture in the main lounge.
Overall, for the price we paid it would be churlish to complain.
