My wife and I have just returned from a holiday in South Goa where we stayed at Martins Comfort Hotel.
For my wife this was her sixth visit to Goa having previously always stayed in the north. For myself this was my first visit.
On our arrival to the hotel we were taken to our room which was spacious with a separate bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fan, balcony and satelite tv. I could even watch the football I was missing while away on ESPN.
The room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels provided each day as required. All the staff in the hotel were first class, very friendly and would do anything to help you.
There is a pool at the hotel but there is a beautiful beach a 5-10 min walk along the road beside the hotel so why do you want to lay beside the hotel pool day in and day out? Yes in the early evening you may smell the sewage processing but this is India for you and you be would unlikely to be laying beside the pool now as the sun will have moved round and you would be in the shade. At this time you would most likely be back in the room getting yourself ready for your tea in any event.
Lets be honest though if you want to go on holiday to lay beside the pool day in day out then your missing the point of Goa - you need to get out there and experience the culture.
There is a restaurant across the car park at the rear of the hotel, or you could walk out the front of the hotel and round the corner. It gets extremely busy so booking would be highly advisable. It is popular with local people and Indian tourists and the food is very good in there but because it is so busy you may experience brief interactions with the waiting staff.
There are other nearby restaurants such as Alex Place, Pentagon at Majorda beach and it is well worth a taxi ride into Cavelousim to the Fishermans Wharf.
If you do go to the beach then I recommend using Alex's Place for your drinks and lunch their food is very good with ample portions and in exchange for eating and drinking there you can use their sunbeds and they will provide you with towels. (turn left on the main road outside the hotel and you will see the sign for Alex Place as you walk along the road 10 min walk).
The only reason why I have not give this a 10/10 is because Goa is majority Catholic there is a church opposite which in advance of their Xmas feast let off fireworks and rang its bell early in the morning in celebratory fashion which did wake you up. But once the feast was over there was little noise from the church.
Try and avoid flying with Monarch though their planes are very cramped and they have miserable crew!

My wife and i stayed here in March this year(2009) for two weeks, and we have previously been to this part of Goa three other times;the first time at this hotel.Goa(south) is where we can completely relax, read a book or two,eat fantastic food, and enjoy the exotic scenery and wonderful beaches.Goans are by their nature truly friendly and relaxed. The rooms at Martins comfort hotel are good, spacious and well appointed, but i fear this is all it's got going for it,which isn't enough to make us return next year:i'll explain ;The hotel has been built on the success of their restaurant - Martin's Corner, probably the best in Goa,especially if you like seafood, but the service from their waiting staff has declined, and to get to it from the hotel, you have to walk across a dusty car-park,not good if you've got your glad-rags on !The hotel has a pool, which is o.k. for a quick dip,but you would'nt want to stay there for any length of time because 1.it has a wall hard-up against it,so you miss the sun as there's no room for a lounger, and 2. the smell ! their sewage treatment facility is in the car-park ,practically in-between the breakfast area and pool-it stinks, and although i mentioned it three times to the manager,i don't think they can do anything about it.For this reason,it's also not good for breakfast, the area is on a lower level and dark, gases accumulate.! The hotel staff unusually are loathe to help with things like toilet paper, soap and towels, and seem to find it all too much trouble.

the minute you arrive at martins comfort you are made to feel welcome ,all the staff are so friendly and helpful. the hotel is spotless inside and out.the rooms are spacious with air conditioning and a fan which are necessary because in march the temp was 34 at times.the breakfasts were good and plentiful and served by a very friendly member of staff called Sunil. we had a brilliant holiday and cannot wait to go back next year.we would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a peaceful and chilled out holiday.

This was an excellent hotel. It was rated at three star and we wre worried about what we would find but to our delight it was one of the best hotels we stayed in while in India The place was spotlessly clean, and the staff very helpful. It had a lovely swimming pool whaich agin was spotless.I would thorougly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet hotel near the beach and airport. There is a fantastic resturant across the road called Martins corner.I would go back there no problem.
