Moedlinger Hotel Reviews
" Good, Budget Hotel. Poor Food "
Submitted By: JOlly CorpBreakfast - Less and less choice each day, as they ran out of things and didn't bother to replace them
Dinner - Soup - extremely salty
Main dish - far too salty. Had turkey (left over from previous night) as fondu - very bizzare - not particular good idea having raw poultry next to beef!
Salad Bar - less choice as the week went on, but ok otherwise
Dessert - perfect if you like squirty cream, jam and icing sugar every night!
The hotel is great if you don't plan to eat there - it's got a real charm about it, and the rooms are basic, but clean and functional. You just get the impression that they do everything they can to save a few pennies, even if it means not providing a good service.
The sauna was great - no complaints at all.
Advice: Pretty village, ski bus in village centre every 10 minutes. Friendly people. Great skiing
Activities: Skiing was fantastic - plenty of piste to keep you busy for a week
Good for: Ski

" My wife and I stayed 2 weeks in this... "
Submitted By: Mr B. JoyceBreakfast is the usual continental standard with bread rolls, cheese, sausage etc + cereals, toast and sometimes croissants. Evening meal has choice of main meal + soup, salad bar and dessert and was generally a good standard and enough for most appetites. Tendency to use a little too much salt in cooking, but otherwise no complaints. Free packed lunch and free after dinner coffee saves on the budget too. Owner and his wife are very friendly, as was Katya, the very nice waitress from St. Petersburg, all of whom speak very good english.
Soll and the surrounding area had plenty of lifts to take you to the top of the mountains that give breathtaking views of the alps and of the local villages almost 2000 metres below - a weekly pass costs around 42 Euros and is well worth the investment. The free "Kaiserjet" bus service runs 4 or 5 times a day to the adjacent villages of Going, Ellmau and Scheffau, another good saving. Air Europa flight from Bristol could be a lot better, Spanish plane with spanish crew, service below average in my experience, but otherwise a very enjoyable holiday hotel and location. If considering Soll, I would definitely recommend this hotel which is at the upper end of the 3 star rating in our opinion.

" A very nice hotel in a quiet... "
Submitted By: Mr W Stewart-JohnsonIt was my wife and I's first visit to Austria, but won't be our last. Soll is a lovely village with stunning views, plenty of walks and cycleways, and a cable car that takes you to the top of the mountain in two stages. Stage one has a themed play area for children and the young at heart, and also stunning views and plenty of walks.Something for everyone. Stage two takes you to the top of the mountain were you can enjoy a meal or drink[not expensive] or once again just take in the stunning views.
Would I go to Austria again, YES
Would I stay at the Modlinger Hotel again,YES

" I booked direct with Herr Moedlinger,... "
Submitted By: Mr ID SIBLEYIt's a traditional Tirolean style family-owned/run hotel. Rooms were fairly spacious, with bath/shower/WC, most with balcony.
Mr Moedlinger may seem a bit 'cold' to some, but he's just very business-like, and very accomodating! Mrs Moedlinger is English.
The half-board was very good: good quality 3-course evening meals and good selection for buffet brekfast.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially if you made the effort with your German!
There's a bar on the ground floor, plus TV, pay-per-surf WWW machine, etc; ski store outside.
Ski Bus stops right outside, as it's a mile walk to the ski lift. If you use th STOLL ski hire/storage, get the bus there, and jump on the button lift to the gondola instead!
The village-centre is a 3 min walk away.
All very scenic and pretty.
I'll be back in 2009!!!

" Hotel Modlinger was an excellent base... "
Submitted By: Mr P MylesMr Modlinger is the proprietor of this fine establishment and he is a true gentleman in every respect. All the staff were very helpful and the food and wine was excellent. The fondue evening was particularly good because I got to sit with the kids and cook meat in a pan of boiling hot oil. Brilliant!
The atmosphere in the bar is relaxed and just right for those who haven't got the energy to hit the town and/or parents.
Some of the guests were a little bit odd but I’ve come to expect that nowadays, the not so young girl with the imaginary dog on a lead was bit bizarre and highly amusing. The nearly grown man with the paper airplane habit was more worrying.
All in all a very good hotel in a good ski resort.

" Lovely hotel - clean and well kept -... "
Submitted By: Mr JR MartinFood was well presented and tasty - very nice salad bar during meals - friendly waiting and bar staff - time restrictions on larger groups - hard to get everyone together at same times.
Rooms - well presented, clean and daily laundry change - but bathroom with no anti-slip mats in shower can be tricky to get into and out of bath/shower. Lovely views from balcony.
Early breakfast for those leaving very early on last day and a light snack for those arriving late gave a nice touch.
Overall a very nice stay and would stay here again.

" We stayed at Moedlinger early Jan... "
Submitted By: Mr A WoodRooms - We had the smaller rooms in the hotel but they were still very spacious. Maids service every day with fresh towels, and we had a fabulous view (albeit of grassy fields as had no snow!). Bathrooms were nice and clean, with a shower rather than a bath.
Food - Couldn't find anything to complain about at all. Both breakfast and evening meal was always enjoyed with plenty of food to be eaten!! And all of it was lovely!!
Bar - Nice comfy bar, which swings between quiet and manic!! Friendly atmosphere and very relaxing... oh, and the sauna (which was fab) is down here too.
Location/Facilities - Located away from the centre of town which we preferred. Is only a 3-5minute stroll to all the pubs/restaurants, but you get to sleep at night without hoards of drunk people walking home past your room!!
You can walk to the ski lift as is only a 10 min stroll, or the ski bus stops at the front door. Alternatively, a taxi is only 5 euros if you can' be bothered to do either! There is a good secure ski locker area with boot warmers to dry your boots on overnight. Fab!!
All in all, if anyone asked me to recommend the Moedlinger, then I wouldn't hesitate. We will def be going back there, but hopefully when there's snow!

" What a beautiful hotel! Family run,... "
Submitted By: Mr B KillnerJust about to have a holiday at the Modlinger for the 7th year in a row for our January skiing holiday (same rooms) speaks volumes about this wonderful hotel.
We have stayed in many hotels in many ski resorts and this ranks in our top 1.
A great setting, well located for us as we enjoy the 10 minute walk in the morning to the ski lifts to warm up, and the après ski atmosphere in the resort on our return journey.
The management/staff always ready to help, make you feel at home and make your stay an enjoyable one (especially if you pay for your drinks!).
Already preparing to book here again for 2007 (year 8).

I especially liked the selection of salads as a second course. The service was very efficient and pleasant. We spent our previous holiday in Soll in a catered Chalet and the food in the Modlinger was far superior to what we were served in the chalet. It was a very pleasant holiday indeed. Some more up to date games etc. would be useful in the bar area. <br>
