Lucky Bansko Reviews
Mar 2008, mk123
We went to Bansko over the New Year week 2007/2008, booked last minute with Neilson through an agent called bookableski.com. If you like skiing or snowboarding then I wouldn't bother, however if you like standing in a queue for a hour and a half every morning then Bansko is... more

Great Hotel in a not so great location!
from IrelandBelle
Stayed here for one week last year, we were not expecting much from the hotel as the surrounding area was like a building site. But as soon as we walked through the doors it was like a diffferent world! The hotel is lovely, really modern and cosy. The rooms were big, we had a fully equipped kitchen, and a tv in the living room & the bedroom. The swimming pool was lovely, and we had a few good treatments in the spa. A shuttle bus ran from the hotel up to the gondolas every half an hour. The hotel has a good restaurant too, and a big breakfast selection. This was our first ski holiday, we loved the hotel, but would probably go skiing somewhere else next time.
Fantastic modern Hotel........Value for money!!!
from Boab1
I stayed at this hotel 8th-15th Feb 2009 with my daughter. Booked our ski trip through Balkan Holidays and can honestly recommend this hotel. The standard in my opinion is certainly a 4* hotel. It was clean, warm, trendy, plenty of space, staff were friendly and responsive and the facilities were great. Our room was spacious, clean and warm....everything we required was there and I couldn't fault it. The bathroom was luxurious and plenty of hot water......which was great to have a long bath at the end of a hard day before chilling out on the sofa watching satellite TV and having a few beers! We ate breakfast each morning in the restaurant.....great choice of food including cooked breakfast and really set us up for a good days skiing. We also had room service on two occaisions and I couldn't fault the service we received or the food - Pizza & chips and chicken & chips.......very tasty and very reasonably priced! We didn't try out the nightclub that was open til 4am....but it did sound quite busy, however we were only woken on a few occaisions when people were leaving. The supermarket on site while small was adequate for our needs....and very handy! The regular shuttle bus to and from the Gondola (5min ride) was very good too, every half an hour and didn't have to wait very long going or returning. On our 2nd day we had the arrival of approx 50 kids who were with a ski school. They practically took over the hotel......at breakfast they took over approx 90% of the restaurant leaving only a few tables for the other guests. Going for the shuttle bus to the Gondola was also an experience......they were all over the reception....even an excuse me didnt work to get past them! Then in the evening we couldn't use the pool as it was turned into a "fun pool" with all the kids jumping splashing and running around. Our room was on the 2nd floor and we could hear them running in the corridor yelling and screaming! (we just turned up the TV to drown the noise out!) then we started getting them phoning our room....I guess by mistake! I would say the only real downside of the hotel was the location. On the far end of the town from the Gondola (we walked it one night and it took us 30mins to get up to the Happy End (at the Gondola) and approx 10mins to the town square. During the day we were not affected by the location as we had the shuttle bus, however it was in the evenings where we really noticed it when going out for our evening meal. To summarise......the location was the biggest negative of this hotel, however that said I would go back as the standard was fantastic and we did thoroughly enjoy it (even the arrival of the kids wouldn't put us off as it wasn't a fault with the hotel) and I liked the F1 Ferrari outside the main entrance....nice touch!!
Good and Bad
from LiliGreece
Me and my boyfriend stayed at Lucky Bansko for three nights. We booked the Executive Apartment it had a balcony and fireplace. The room was very spacious and bright with large wall to wall windows. The bedroom was in a separate room which was very spacious, the bed was large with a very soft mattress-which gave you a backache in the morning . The bathroom was splendid very modern with good quality amenities, bathrobes and slippers. Walking into the apartment there was a dreadful smell which resembled sweat-it didn't leave even though we left the windows open for the entire afternoon. The living room had two couches-both were dirty, stained and full of hair. The carpets were dirty and looked like they hadn't been vacuumed. The days which we stayed there the housekeeping didn't do anything in our room except for emptying the waste bins, changing the towels (if we left them on the floor) and made the bed. Nothing else. Overall the housekeeping was awful. We ordered room service one day and they didn't even bring salt and peeper with our food-which really needed both. This brings me to the food.....below average! We ate at the restaurant the last night and the pizza was frozen processed, the spaghetti sauce had gone bad and the waiter did not know any english. We had serious problems communicating. The breakfast is pretty good compared to the rest of the food-but nothing really pleasing. The best part of this hotel is the spa. It has very good priced services, and the facilities are very satisfying and modern. You are serviced well without problems. Overall I think that the only thing worth in this hotel is the spa and the room sizes along with their bathrooms. We would probably visit this hotel again unless we can get a good deal at the hotel which is right o the slope, knowing that for Bulgarian standards Lucky Bansko is above average!
Never a New Year Eve at this hotel
from Anca_18
We paid quite a lot for 7 nights in this hotel and we booked also the New Year Eve party. For a lot of money we received for the New Year Eve party only food , no drinks , no cofeee , a stupid music and a drunk DJ . We ordered some wine with an exorbitant price. We left earlier and after 45 minutes we received a call in the room that we shloud come back to sign the receipt which was stupid to wake us up instead to wait until morning. The hotel is not big , very expensive for what they offered , they didn't change at all the bed clothes, they did not replace the necesarry things in the bathroom. The garage has no eleveator coonection with the hotel and you have to carry to the stairs the luggages. The pool was heaten only in the first day , in the other was cold even if they say that the water has 33 degreas. The people are nice only if you give them tips . It is close to the center , around 10 minutes , but far away ( 2 km) from sky lift . They provide a bus to and from sky lift from 30 minutes to 30 minutes but not later than 12 to go the sky lift and no later than 17 to come back. The taxi is 10 leva ( almost 5 euro) . Bansko is still under construction and it looks dirty . In this period you have to wait in average 60 minutes for the sky lift. In the restaurants the music is too loud and you cannot keep a conversation with friends. The only taverna that we recommend is Bansky han. Never come back in Bulgaria !
Lucky to stay at the Lucky Bansko
from Pinguero
The Lucky Hotel Bansko is in my opinion the most modern and stylish hotel in Bansko. Located close to the river but still relatively close to the Gondola, the hotel offers a free shuttle ride every 30 minutes or so. The staff is friendly and professional. The rooms are very well designed with nice features such as flat screen TV and a spacious bathroom with bathrobes and slippers. The bar by the lobby is small but very modern and chic. The hotel has a nice spa and pool in the ground floor area. I would recommend the Lucky to anyone looking to stay at a stylish but comfortable place that is out of the ordinary typical Swiss-style chalet of the majority of hotels in Bansko.
Very good place to stay, family friendly
from Phiby
We got a fantastic deal at Lucky Bansko in the off season. We paid just 50 euros a night, and stayed for 3 nights. It is a brand new hotel, and for the time being is surrounded by construction sites of other hotels being built, so the location is not exactly picturesque. However, it is a very luxurious place and great for families. We appreciated having a kitchen with all the necessary utensils to cook for our kiddie. The decor is warm modern, the pool and spa area are very attractive and relaxing. I got a massage, but the lady was in a hurry so it wasn't great. Otherwise, the staff were very helpful and patient with us and our rambunctious 2-year-old. Breakfast was good.

Just back from the Lucky Bansko and am delighted to confirm that they are excellent. There was 8 of us in total in the group. My boyfriend and I had a deluxe 1 bedroom apartment which was very spacious with lovely bathroom, coffee machine, kettle & microwave. (You have to pay a deposit to access the cutlery but I persume this is to stop people stealing it!). Our friends had a studio (which was perfect for a couple but was much smaller than the deluxe) and a standard (lux) 1 bedroom (which was a bit smaller than the deluxe). All rooms were cleaned by the very friendly accommodation staff twice a day! The spa facilities in the Lucky Bansko are bang up to date and include 2 saunas, 2 steam rooms and fab pool and treatment rooms, a gym and an ice shower, perfect for your legs after your hard day on the slopes. Along with these facilities the Lucky Bansko also have a supervised play room for kids, a lobby bar, free internet in the lobby, very frequent shuttle buses to the gondola (7mins), a shop, a restuarant, room service, a drying room for your ski gear. It is a bit out of the centre but the reception will ring a taxi for you and it costs 10 lev (about 6 euros) to get to the centre. They are currently building the second phase of this hotel so there is alot of work going on around the building but this wasnt a problem. We were extremely happy with the skiing in Bansko. It takes about 20min in the gondala to get up the mountain but it is very scenic trip. The ski instructors were great and I was surprised at the variety of different runs (blue/red/black). All in all a great holiday except for the food which I did not like at all.
Top hotel

You will be one lucky Bansko if you stay in this hotel. From what we could ascertain it is one of the nicest hotels in Bansko. Great things about this hotel: -Staff were the friendliest locals we encountered. The majority of Bulgarians have a smile for no-one but the staff here are helpful and polite, and even cracked a smile. -Slick pool, sauna and steam room. All finished to the highest standard -Free internet access. 3 pcs in lobby, 4 downstairs -Excellent breakfast buffet with fruit, cereals and english cooked breakfast -Stylish, spacious, well equipped rooms. TV with english channels including sky sports. -Cheap room service, minibar and downstairs restaurant. Reasonably priced shop in lobby. -Timely and regular mini-buses to gondola The only downside to the hotel was that you have to catch a cab into town at night, which will cost you about 24 lev return (10 pounds). it is walkable in around 15-20 minutes.
Dull outside, fantastic inside
from jo2802
We stayed at the Lucky Bansko from 5-11 Jan 08. I was nervous because the hotel was only finished in November and there were no reviews. However, other than looking like a travelodge from the outside, the inside was wonderful. All the staff were polite and friendly and spoke good english. We had the B and B option as I had already heard that the food can be variable to say the least in Bulgaria. The breakfast was excellent, a huge choice of cereal, salad, breads, cakes, and hot food, with lovely coffee and selection of teas. We stayed in a double studio room, which had the most comfortable bed ever, a well fitted kitchenette - with hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee maker, only odd thing was having to pay deposit of 50 lev to gain access to cutlery and plates??? There was a deep bath with shower over and the tv had at least 5 channels we could watch - discovery, national geographic etc. There were 3 computers with free internet access in the bar area (poorly lit though). The pool/spa area was brilliant. There is a mini market downstairs, but a great little supermarket just back on the main road below the hotel near the garages. Our only criticisms were the heat was stifling everywhere! On the last day, 'someone' helped themself to my partners, toiletries and aftershave!!! We didn't realise until we got home as he thought I had packed them...the rooms are not really cleaned, not sure what the staff did in them really.... There was a free mini bus to and from the gondola (get there early on first day) and in the evenings to the centre of town. The reps tell you nothing, we have complained to Neilson, so it may improve...couldn't get worse! Don't bother with skidoo trips, they rarely happened and folk struggled getting their money back. Ski-ing was fab but remember to take your insurance on the piste - they won't do much until they have it, we saw several people waiting while their family/friend went back to the hotels for documents. All in all a great time, we will definitely go back

It is a great hotel and all...but once you get your ski boots STOLEN from the ski room ..and the management forgets you exist once you leave the hotel, it kinda leaves a sour taste to it. I called them 3 times to ask if they found them or if i would get some compensation ,... more
