We stayed in Bangkok for three nights before moving over to Phuket. This hotel was very nice, the best ive stayed in. From first arriving at the hotel, I was shocked at how grand it looked, and on arriving in our hotel room, this was evident throughout all the hotel. This hotel is perfect. There is just one downfall, and that is the pool area, as it is mostly in the shade from 11.am onwards, but as we were going to phuket after bangkok, this wasnt really a problem, as there was alot to cram in.
On our first night we went to see thr ladyboy show, which was defiantly an experience!! The show didnt really have much to it, the main attraction is basically seeing lady boys! You can also have pictures with the afterwards. Some of them try to charge you money for having the picture with them, but this isnt compulsory!
To visit the grand palace from the hotel, it is a short walk to the skyline, which you take down to the river (the last stop), and head towards the river and get a boat to the grand palace. Once at this stop, head out to the road and turn left, once at the end of the road you will see the palace. Basically, follow the tourists!! If anyone comes up to you saying that the grand palace is closed, will be closing, etc, ignore them, as they are trying to offer you a shopping trip. I read this in a book before we went, and when a man 'wanted to help' without us asking, he knew far too much about where we were, and where we should go! so they may seem helpful, but just ignore there offers!
The V9 restaurants in the hotel was absolutely fantastic!! the service was very good, and enjoyed the range of drinks available. Whether your at the hotel for a meal, or just using the bar, youll enjoy the amazing view on all sides, as it is the 2nd to top floor. On one of our nights, we brought a bottle of chilled wine from the V9 restaurant and took it down to our room, all very romantic! The other restaurant was a thai themed restaurant, with such a lovely setting, we were disappointed with the food, maybe we just arnt that adventurous!
Another place near to the hotel is the state tower, which you can see from the hotel view. to get there, turn right as you leave the hotel, and keep heading straight. you will eventually see it on your left. The state tower is one of the highest building in bangkok, and has a bar and restuarant at the top. this was such an amazing view, with very nice cocktails!
