My husband and myself are going off on the 3rd of September 2008 for two weeks at the Hotel Eggerwirt. This is our 13th visit to Soll, and our 10th to the Eggerwirt. It is a fabulous Hotel. Claudia and all the family make you feel very welcome, food is excellant, location very good you can sleep at nights as no noise. The peopl in the village get to know you as well and talk to you it is a lovely atmosphere.
My Husband goes for the walking as there is loads of walks he still has not done, when he goes off on a long all day walk I find it easy to get around on the local buses, and I do not feel in any danger even if I was out on my own at night which I am not.
The Hotel is very clean some people say the rooms are small but they are fine, they are well decorated. Claudia has refurbished them these last few years and the standard of them is great, having put in new shower rooms as well. So we will give the Hotel Eggerwirt 10/10. We would give it more as we love the place it is like our second home. Cannot wait to get back.

A lovely hotel, which is superbly run and overseen by Claudia and Angelica. My first visit to Austria and when I return I will stay at this hotel again. Good food, sound accommodation but most of all a lovely staff and a dedicated manageress, Claudia.

Excellent, non smoking hotel, friendly staff including managemnt- thanks Claudia- clean, well maintained and fantastic food, if i ever went back to soll, this would be my first choice, have skied all other the world these past 30 years, for the price i would say this was the best value for what you get. as said highly recommended, thank you very much for my stay with you. PS the snow was good also.

Great hotel, food good, rooms clean and not too small!! ( how much room do you need?, you're only sleeping and getting dressed in it ), staff friendly enough when you can find them, reception desk poorly manned, ski store room was fine only there was never anywhere left to put my snowboard as I was last to get back to the Hotel after extended Apre'.
Don't bother with the ski storage near the Gondola if you have your own equipment, I paid 6 Euros for it for the week and never used it as they recommend you don't. Could see why when we got there, not secure at all, anyone can walk in.
Soll itself is really pretty and probably the best located ski village in the whole skiwelt area, especially if the snow is poor like it was when we were there. Fairly central to travel to the other resorts by taxi, Scheffau is 2 euros each via taxi and Westendorf 6 euros each, Scheffau is best. Taxis take 8 with all your skis but we did manage to get 9 in one day.
Will definitely be going back to Austria in the future, maybe when the snow goes all the way from the top of the mountain to the bottom. Don't forget to car share and turn off any unwanted lights, let’s make sure there's snow next year.

We spent 10 nights at a great resort. First trip to Austria, but found it extremely child-friendly, clean and welcoming. The Hotel Eggerwirt was first class, with a very friendly attitude. Evening meals were all of a very high standard and the menu was very varied across the 10 days.
Soll is a quiet and compact, which suited us, and was just a short walk from the cable car station. We bought ski lift passes for a week and found them very good value, enabling you to get around easily on the numerous lifts. The facilities, such as play areas for kids and restaurants, at each of the ski stations in the mountains were superb.
There's a free local bus available for tourists, which helps you get out and about to the various ski lift stations in the area.
We went on various excursions with Inghams, which were quite pricey, but well organised. Our local Inghams rep was exceptional, she really couldn't do more for us.

OK. There were 4 in our party - 3 male and 1 female (ages 26, 30, 34, 35). We paid just under £600 pp to include flights, transfers, HB accommodation at Eggerwirt and 6 day lift pass. Holiday dates 4th March-11th March 2006.
Flight (10/10): From Birmingham to Salzburg is about 1h 45m. We chose this option as it got us to Austria by 10am. There is another option to fly to Innsbruck which is closer to Soll, but a later flight time.
Transfer (10/10): Takes about 2 hours along surprisingly flat roads. We were expecting those white knuckle winding mountain roads...
Hotel (9/10): Remember that this is 3 star accommodation.
Staff: Speak very good English, and appreciated our lame attempts to speak German. Extremely friendly and happy to help.
Hotel Rooms: Basic as to be expected with a 3 star hotel. We had 2 x twin rooms. Our only complaint about the whole holiday was that the rooms were a little small - could have done with a little more space for suitcases, drawers etc (hence 9/10). Having said this, they were clean and visited by maids every day
Hotel Food: I am a very, very fussy eater, but never once felt the need to eat out. Breakfast - cereals, toast, jams, eggs or bacon, juice, tea, coffee. Evening; Soup, choice of 2 main courses, dessert, salad bar.
Hotel Bar/Lounge: The bar is reasonably priced, and there is a small room to sit and relax by a log fire (& TV).
Hotel Ski Storage: At basement level. Heated and very useful
Hotel Sauna: Sorry - never used it.
Hotel Access: Your room key opens the main door after 10pm, or there is also a key pad a code to do the same. Very good for party animals of different staying power.
Resort Bars (10/10): Under a 5 minute walk to all bars and restaurants. The Whiskey Muhle is probably the main bar which has a nightclub attached which is open until 3-4am. Live bands 2-3 times a week, and as much football as you can handle. There are a few other bars that also have live bands and sport on TV.
Resort Skiing location: The first morning, I caught the bus that stops immediately outside the hotel to the ski area. The other 3 in our party walked. The walk is about 15-20 mins carrying boots and ski's - the bus takes 2 mins. This gets you to the Ski Garage. The Ski garage costs 6euros per week and basically just shelving to store boots and skis. You can then either walk another 10 minutes uphill in ski boots, or catch a button lift to the gondola station. The button lift tends to be busy. Alternatively, you can wait for a bus to take you to the gondola.
Resort buses: Are free and at peak times are about every 20 mins. Be wary if you leave the slopes early as buses only run at 11:50, 14:00 and 15:25 back to the hotel. Otherwise, this was our preferred method of getting to and from the slopes. We stored our Skis and boots at the hotel.
Skiing: Very good. 250Km of slopes to navigate through. I reckon we only covered 1/4 of it in a week. It snowed 4 out of 6 days, was sunny 1 day, and rained the other (very strange!). The main gondola station from Soll was seldom busy when we were there at any time - 09:00 or 10:00.
This takes you to the first level where there are numerous lift/gondola options. This is ideal cos not everyone goes for the same options meaning no queuing.
The visibility from the top of the Red gondola (1829m) can sometimes be extremely restricted - be warned! However, when it is clear, you can see for many, many miles - it is excellent!
Slopes are Blue, Red and Black. I didn't do any blacks, but the reds and blues are great. I would avoid the blue from the first level to the bottom of the gondola station though as it is very narrow and involves a fair bit of flat. It involves a fair bit of manual effort!
On the whole: I have skied in Andorra many times, France, Italy and USA. Until now, Andorra was favorite as it had a good mix of skiing, nightlife and ski in ski out. However, Soll has now taken over the reigns as good value for money, covering all my requirements for a resort.
Enjoy.

We stayed half board in March '05. Really pleased with the Eggerwirt. Nice welcome, prompt service, good food - including choice of main course. Room was a bit small but don't let that put you off.
Very close to the centre so it only takes 10mins to walk to the ski locker / lift. Ski bus outside if you don't fancy the walk. Close to all the other bars / restaurants. Would definitely stay there again.

The plus side - very nice hotel, great location with regard to centre of town, the food was great, access 24 hours for party goers no problem. The family who run the hotel were very pleasant. Fully heated ski storage with easy access, ski bus right outside
The not so plus side - we stayed in the last week of the season (20th march) it was a bit of a battle to get the sauna going after a days skiing, due to the lack of capacity in the hotel, and our room was a little small and had no shower, however we had access to another room.
