The White Rose Hotel

When I am working away from home I like to stay in a small, independently run, local hotel, not a soulless motel or one of the budget chain hotels that all look the same. The White Rose Hotel at Leeming Bar was a real find for me. It's about half a mile away from the Leeming Bar service station on the A1 in North Yorkshire, and so it's perfect for an overnighter, and a great alternative to the service station hotel. Landlord John Barton runs a really friendly place, and all the staff I came across were professional and attentive. It's actually the village pub, which was expanded about 20years ago by adding a bedroom block on the back. The night I stayed, all the guests were people working away from home, and John has worked out what people like us want - efficient, friendly service, great food, and a relaxing atmosphere.
