best soll ski hotel
from gerry8941
Spent 1 week in the Hotel Postwirt in Soll during the Feb ski season 2008. Our host Joseph makes the place the best value hotel in Soll. The rooms are clean and well kept-not exactly new and modern but more like classic Austrian cosiness. We stayed for half board which was excellent value for that little bit extra. The breakfast was buffet including cereals/ hot food/ cheeses etc-stereotypical Austrian fare. You had a choice of 4 dinner specials every day-the dinner quality was good-not exactly exciting but alot better than half board in other hotels in town. Would still advise eating out 2-3 nights in the town at some good restaurant such as Gioviannis, Dorf-Stube and Bella vista. Joseph the host was fabulous- great fun, always helpful and a good man for a beer or two. There is an internet connection in the lobby which is pay per minute (not very expensive). Also an outside heated pool open from 4 till 7-great for unwinding and relaxing the sore après ski muscles. The location is excellent just opposite the ski bus stop but the hotel is only 7 minutes walk to the ski slopes anyway. It is very quiet especially rooms facing toward the back. A word of warning-try and avoid street facing rooms as the main nightclub-whisky muhle- was only 100 feet down the road and late night revellers tended to make a bit of noise on the way home. Overall it is the best value hotel in town
Fantastic
from WitchyYork
This hotel is absolutely fantastic ! The best thing about it is the food which is gorgeous. Despite going skiing, I ended up putting on half a stone in weight ! The staff are the next best thing, they are exteremely friendly and really can't do enough for you. The rooms are spacious and immaculate with great views. The pool is a dream after a day's skiing and it's a strange experience to be swimming outside, looking at the stars in the middle of February ! If you are going to Soll then book this hotel, you can't go wrong in anyway. Only one word of caution (and this has nothing to do with the hotel) but I would only recommend going to Soll if you are a good intermediate skier. There are loads of red runs but not many blue and the ski maps are misleading to say the least. We found blue runs on the map which didn't exist in reality and ones which were actually red once you got on them, not a very nice experience for someone who isn't a competant skier ! Having said that we had a wonderful week and are looking forward to going back again in the Summer this time.
Great Hotel

Not sure I really want to publicise how good this hotel is as I want to keep it a secret. It’s a brilliant hotel, the staff are great, the food was varied and of a high standard. Location is centre of Soll, approx 20 min walk to the ski lifts. The hotel has 2 bars, but as you are in the centre, there a few others around too. Facilities, outdoor pool, which was great after a hard days skiing, you enter from inside the hotel and go through some flaps. Then sit in 33 degs of warm water in view of the mountains. The Sauna and steam room were fairly empty so found ourselves alone in them after using the pool. In summary a friendly perfect alpine hotel, cannot recommend it enough. Look out for the uppadinger, a rare animal now stuffed sitting in the bar area.
Lovely, Friendly hotel
from Chrismcox
We read the reviews on this website before booking, and to be quite honest, we couldn't believe that it would be as good as people were saying. But, after staying there, I can honestly say that they were spot on. The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, smell fresh (there are no smoking signs) and warm. There is a nice little wooden table and soft benches in the room, a couple of chairs and a little sofa. And the balcony had a lovely view of the mountains. It was also quiet (they encourage guests to respect a quiet period between 10 pm and 7 am). The bathroom comes equipped with bath, shower and hairdryer. The room also had a free mini safe for storing valuables. Their is ample wardrobe space and storage for cloths etc. The bed was a very comfortable double with two single matresses side by side. The small TV in the room had two English channels, CNN and BBC World, to be expected, as this seems to be the norm for hotels abroad. I must admit, I got fed up with watching stories about the US and switched off to read a book. There is a nice bar area on the ground floor with friendly bar tender. They do a free apres-ski snack in there between 3 and 4.30pm. The food in the restaurant is the best thing about this hotel. It is truely out of this world! The breakfasts offer a buffet selection of hot and cold fayre, all of a very high standard. The evening meals are 4 course a la carte and every course is magnificantly prepared and tastes delicious. A lot of effort has gone into the menus and the cook deserves a michelin star! The outdoor pool is smallish but warm. You swim in from the inside of the hotel, so you never get cold. It has a jacussi. There is also a sauna, steam room and cold room, for apres-ski recovery. A free secured ski garage in the basement is very useful for storing your ski equipment. You can keep your boots and skis there on the racks provided. To summarise, I woud highly recommend this hotel. I woould go as far as to say it's the best we have ever stayed at.
This takes some beating!!

After 3 weeks travelling around Europe, we eventually arrived at The Postwirt, we were so glad to see it!!! (We have stayed here previously in Jan 2005 for a ski-ing holiday). The welcome you receive is second to none, all the staff are wonderful and so helpful, after learning it was part of our honeymoon and how long we had been travelling they even offered to do some laundry for us which we gladly accepted, this was returned to us the following day, beautifuuly done and folded and all the shirts hung up and ironed to perfection. What Gem's they are. The food in this hotel cannot be beaten! You choose what you'd like in the day time from a selection of three main dishes. There is a lovely selection of starters from a buffet and a lovely salad selection, fresh breads, etc etc which you help yourself too, they then bring you homemade soup and then your main course. Nothing can be faulted, it's always very fresh, well cooked and of excellent quality. There's then a selection of desserts and cheeses. Perfect. Also worth noting is that on half board you get all drinks included with dinner, wine, beers etc. They had a Tyrolean special buffet night whilst we were there, they had made a great selection of typical starters, there were 5 choices of meet for mains and the chefs who were dishing it out were great and couldn't give you enough!! The bedrooms are nice, typically Austrian with lots of wood, always immaculately clean, but nothing plush. The shower has plenty of power, always important and both rooms we've stayed in have had a lovely balcony for sitting out on. Another plus factor is the fantastic swimming pool, mainly out door although you get in inside. This is nicely heated and a bonus in summer as well as in winter when you can get into the pool with snow around the outside and it's steaming - fantastic. There's also a steam room and sauna. Soll itself is a really lovely picturesque little place, great in the summer, fairly quiet but with loads of great walking (you can use the ski gondola's and lifts to go up and walk down and cross into other valley's). The ski-ing is great too, people go back year after year, we'd certainly go again. Apres ski is excellent too, really friendly and really good fun. Head for the Salvern Stadl and then to the Whikey Muhle - We can't wait to go again. Overall we can't fault the Postwirt, yes they could up-date the rooms a little, but this is such a minor thing, it in no way detracts from the overall experience. The staff do their upmost for you to ensure you have a great time.
Friendly hotel

The Postwirt Hotel in Soll has a great central location. You are right next door to the tourist information, the Spar shop is round the corner and the bus stop is just through the car park of the hotel. During our stay (14 nights) we found all staff very friendly and they all spoke excellent English (not so good for us as we wanted to practise our German!). The food was excellent and I struggled to finish every meal because the portions were so large! For the evening meal there was a choice of 4 courses. they do like their whipped cream for pudding! The Gala dinner on a Friday was superb. Breakfast had a good choice and was always replenished, even when it was nearly time for breakfast service to be over. The rooms were large and clean and included all ammenities. The balcony was great, very large, great view (although we were very lucky as our balcony seemed to have the best view, we had room 308). A great addition to the balcony, which I have never seen before, was a drying rack! The pool area was great and the pool was fairly warm because we had nice weather. Loungers and umbrellas are provided but the pool area did get quite busy late afternoon and all the loungers were used. It was very peaceful lying here during the day. Our only negative comment would be the fact that some areas of the hotel are a bit dated and they seem to love brightly coloured laminated signs which do detract from a 4* hotel. There are tip boxes in all areas of the hotel which is a bit in your face! We also received a letter once we had arrived home thanking us for our visit. This is a nice touch. We would stay here again.
Postwirt is a brilliant hotel
from Robbyrae
This hotel is magnificent and the service was incredibly good. The staff were brilliant and the food was excellent and plentiful, not to mention value for money. The hotel has an old world charm and all of the staff we encountered were constantly smiling and in good humour. They made you feel welcome and could not do enough for you. We stayed for five days and were quite sad to leave. We met people who return year after year and it is easy to see why they do. When we returned home we had a letter from the Postwirt thanking us for our custom, this has never happened to us before from any of the many hotels we have stayed in over the years. Since returning to the UK we have recommended the Postwirt to all of our friends, and we definately recommend it to anyone reading this who is considering a holiday in Austria.
The best hotel in Soll?
from Mindstore
Soll, for me ,is a winter sports destination. It is a relatively small village but has a good choice of bars, restaurants and ski hire shops. Many visitors return during the same weeks year after year, this gives it the feel of a village community rather than a resort overtaken by tourists. Access to the slopes is easy, not quite ski-in but a 10 minute walk or short journey by ski-bus.There is a choice of ski garages so you do not need to carry equipment up and down each day. We have stayed in The Post once and The Hotel Tyrol twice. The Post could be the best hotel in town.Breakfast and dinner in the resident's restaurant was superb. Many of the guests were 10 +year veterans which added to the friendly atmosphere. The hotel has two main bars. One a comfortable lounge and the second a multi-roomed pub set in the old part of the hotel. This is open all day and is the centre of village life for many people, residents and non-residents alike. The rooms in the new part of the hotel are brighter and fresher than the sombre dark wood rooms in the older part of the hotel. The heated swim out outdoor pool is an experience ,particually when it's snowing. There is however a problem. We were warned about noise. The hotel is in the centre of the village and we suffered continuous noise throughout the night, everynight..At 11-12 o'clock people are leaving the bars 3 o'clock the nearby whisky muhler closes 4 o'clock snow ploughs 6 o'clock general traffic. We pleaded for a quiter room they said they don't have any quiet rooms! So a great hotel but I can't stay there again. One of my basic requirements is the ability to have a good nights sleep. This is why we stay at The Tyrol another great hotel but in a peaceful location 2minutes walk from the village centre.
An excellent hotel
from anyname
I have just returned from a weeks skiing in Soll and stayed at this lovely hotel right in the village centre. The staff all spoke excellent English and were very friendly. We were half board and the food was fantastic and plentiful. For skiers, the are free hot snacks every afternoon between 3.30 and 4.30. The outdoor pool is a surreal experience after a day on the slopes but well worth a visit. There was a real mix of clientele and I would recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Soll. Like the previous reviewer, I cannot understand why there aren't more reviews about the Postwirt!
What a little gem.

My family travelled this summer for our first visit to Austria. It would seem that we were the only ones as everyone we spoke to seemed to be a veteren of at least 5 years. Why had no one ever mentioned to us how lovely Austria was? We stayed at the Hotel Postwirt and I simply cannot praise this hotel enough. It was a modest hotel right in the centre of Soll, family run and very traditional. We were travelling with our 15 month old daughter and were pleased that our room was a nice size with a very safe balony. I have to say as a caveat that the room itself wasnt the most modern and there was perhaps a bit too much wood for my liking......but it was spacious, clean and included all the appropriate amenities. It was the people who ran the hotel who made our holiday special....they simply could not have been more accomodating. The staff on reception were helpful and all spoke excellant English. The staff in the dining room were pleasant and did all they could to ensure that both we and our daughter had everything we needed. Even the owner of the hotel was always on hand and gave our daughter a teddy when we left....we almost felt like family ourselves. The food in the dining room was excellant....there was not one night when we didnt leave the table stuffed! Plenty of choice (including vegetarian) and exellant quality. Austria was a revelation for us in that there was plenty to do, the people were friendly and polite and the standard of our hotel was second to none. I really dont know why they arent more reviews of this hotel on this site as people seemed to return to this hotel nearly every year....maybe its a well kept secret and I have just let the cat out the bag. The only downside was the weather. We are used to the heat of the Italian Lakes so didnt quite factor into our packing anything to do with rain! We did see quite a lot of rain really and had to buy rain proof jackets (in my case a lovely fashionable poncho!) but I wont make that mistake next time. And there definately will be a next time!

Having been fortunate enough to travel across most of the world we have just returned from our first ski holiday staying at the Postwirt Hotel. On arrival we were greeted with smiling faces and a clear desire to make our holiday memorable. Our room was well appointed and... more
