Jan 2011, BBBBRRRRAAADDDDLLLLEEEEYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

21st Dec 28th Dec 2010 we had the best christmas ever myself my partner and 2 girls l agree the lodge mounty is basic (you are told this in the brosure)and could do with some money spent on tidying it up. But the staff are so friendly, very helpful and the laid back approach makes it feel more like home than a hotel, the staff put on a quiz nite which got the all the guests in the hotel involved, we meet some realy amazing people and laughted the whole hoilday.Sking was amazing. The area was like a christmas card,it was nice 2 be away from the center of soll with its nitelife as we had the girls. The walk too the hotel wasnt long at all ,we are going back this year at christmas to the lodge mounty!!!

Very poor, dont know how people rate this so high

Jan 2011, unhappy customer

We found the rooms did not match what we were told when booking. The bed was tiny, rooms had old decor and dirty, dirty headboards and furniture, moudly bathrooms, choice of scolding hot or freezing showers. Left over drink cartons in rooms from previous occupiers. Toilet leaking and dripping all night.
No where to hang ski clothes once finished for the day so they dripped all over the carpets. Change of towels once a week (lovely).
If you must stay here then beware this is for the extreme low budget and you can probably find just as cheap alternatives elsewhere of much higher quality.
It also mentions that it's a 3 star hotel, but this is by Neilson standards and reason why is if propably awarded it would not even gain one star.
The staff where great and did all they can help, but there hands are tied by Neilson and there utter and complete lack of investment and they cannot do anything but take complaints on board, which they did from many guests.
I cannot tell you what to do if you have already booked here. But I know what I would do if I read this reveiw.
Hire your skis from the gondala, Neilson reps say that there ski hire place is only 150 meters from gondala, but carrying all ski equipment up hill for nearly 5 minutes is no easy task and very tiring, instead the gondala does ski and boot hire and only 30 seconds from the ski lift.

Brilliant week at the Mounty

Jan 16th- 23rd
Four blokes in our group and we enjoyed the Lodge Mounty.
The accomodation is basic but comfortable.
The breakfasts were good with a hot option of two items every day (other foreign hotels I've stayed at don't offer this), cereals and fruit, juice, tea & coffee.
The evening meals were always of a good standard and welcome after a day on the slopes. Served at 7pm which can be inconvenient but makes you come back from the apres ski bars which can be useful for your skiing the next day.
We went in to town every night which is a refreshing 5-10 minute walk. The town is good for bars and sports fans. We didn't find any quiet bars , but we weren't really looking and wouldn't have stayed if we had.
We left skis and boots at the shope below the gondola which was 14 Euros but very handy.
Skiing was fantastic all week. Had two days of sun did some brilliant blues & reds & a couple of blacks.
I would say that the lodge is best suited for groups of friends rather than couples and don't take a new girlfriend here to impress her, but we had a great week.
The staff at the lodge were always friendly and helpful and looked after us well. Thanks a lot Carl, Liam, Charlie, Corrine & Janine !!!

Skiing was Fab but will not stay at the Mounty Lodge Again
4 / 10
Mar 2009, skibabe

This is our second trip to Soll in two years for skiing both around the March time of year.
The snow conditions were epic.
We booked through the “Airtours holiday” through Iglu, flew with Thomas Cook and stayed in a Neilson catered “lodge hotel”.
This was the first time we have stayed in this type of accommodation.
The Mounty Lodge is about the furthest accommodation from the slopes and nightlife in Soll. It is walk-able but is almost too far even for us as active 25+ and 30 year olds especially after a hard days skiing.
The ski bus is fine and frequent at the beginning of the day but appears non-existent at the end of the day (especially after any sort of après).
We really enjoyed Soll again, but this was despite the Mounty…
The rooms and lodge (I can’t call it a hotel) as a whole were tired and tatty. This applies to the restaurant/ bar area too.
The lodge is run by the Neilson reps who are friendly enough but clearly not qualified/ trained hotel staff.
The rooms leave a lot to be desired. They pass as a place for a head for the night – but no more.
We had two rooms (a double and a single).
The single had to share a communal toilet and bathroom with another double room and had no shower (only a bath) although it does have a nice balcony and was so hot all week I had to have the window open all night. Compare this to another couple who had no heating all week and were forced to use a portable heater.
The double room again was just passable. The shower worked but the temperature and fittings were temperamental. This was the second room we had as the first’s bed was impossible to lay on due to being worn out and with springs poking though. We were fortunate there was a spare room as there would have been no other alternative.
Dining: The tables are arranged canteen style and are at different levels. Tablecloths are replaced perhaps once a week. The food is good and freshly prepared every night although you do all have to sit down on your table for the week at 7pm sharp with everyone else – which can be a little inconvenient if you are enjoying the après ski in the main resort.
Breakfast was average and consisted of rather limited a continental breakfast together with two hot items each day (egg, bacon, sausage, beans etc on a rolling basis).
The other guests were extremely noisy coming back at all hours and banging doors etc (we returned typically between midnight and 2 am and tried to be quiet!).
There is a boot/ski store in the basement, but we left our stuff at the gondola station to save carrying it.
We would return to Soll (maybe not next year though) but definitely would not return to the Lodge Mounty. The hotel Modlinger last year was head and shoulders above this but was fully booked this year. We would recommend and return there – it is slightly closer to the town/ slopes too.
PS: I don't understand how the scores for this accomodation are so high!

Based on value for money this hotel...

Based on value for money this hotel is excellent. The hotel is located in the centre of soll opposite a very nice Italian pizzeria. The rooms a basic with a good shower room, they are very nice and clean. The breakfast if buffet style, all the usual cooked meats, breads, jams, nutella, eggs, fruit you get the idea! The evening meal is a choice of 2 or 3 dishes that you select in the morning, I found the food quality good and always enjoyed it.
The hotel bar is pretty good also, there is one down stairs and one on the first floor.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, they made my stay at the Hotel Austria very enjoyable.
I would say it takes just over 5 mins to walk to the ski garage from the hotel, it's a pleasant walk as you pass through the village giving you time to pick up any essentials for a long days skiing.
All in all a great holiday for the price. If you are looking for a touch of luxury you need to pick a different hotel but if you want a good base with good food and excellent staff you probably wont find any better!

The Mounty is run by Neilson staff...
8 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr W Hunter

The Mounty is run by Neilson staff and is approx 5 minute walk from the resort centre, and about 10 min walk to the ski lockers which themselves are just down from the gondola station. An hourly bus service is available from the hotel if you're feeling lazy.
Very informal atmosphere, food was very good with a meat option and veggie option available every night. 3 course meal normally soup to start and then a desert.
Room was comfortable, clean and roomy with balcony overlooking one of the hills. Ensuite was clean and water was hot. Bed was v comfy - a result after hard day skiing.
Would recommend the mounty for a cheap holiday, that said our friends stayed in the Tyrol and that was closer to town and quite posh.
The Neilson brochure advises there is a sauna at the hotel. There isn't and there never has been. It was de-commissioned 6 years ago so that was a bit of a let down.
Overall I would recommend the Mounty if you're going with a group of lads/girls but I wouldn't necessarily think it the best place for a family holiday.

Maria & Manfred Rott are a great couple, the hotel is run very well. It is clean, friendly and you feel like a family member. I have used this hotel over the past 12 years. Stephen the fun pub manager is a great lad.
I would recommend this Hotel to anyone. Easy to get around the village, close to shops, bus station and ski bus.
First class service from staff / owners.
Set menu for evening with Al a carte available if required.
Give it a try; it's a great place to stay.

A relatively simple and friendly two star guesthouse, with good bedrooms and great views.
Marianne takes her job seriously and endeavours to make her guests comfortable.
The breakfast is somewhat limited but adequate for most and there are hot drinks available throughout the day without charge.
It is possible to have the excellent evening meal next door for 15 euros per night and based on that it is possible to use the Alphof's swimming pool (smallish and cool) and sauna area (in the nude!).
The ski bus stops outside twice in the mornings and evenings other wise a ten minute walk to the Boglerhof is required.

Stayed Xmas week in Dec 2006.
Great atmosphere and (British) staff very friendly and helpful.
Food excellent with choice of each course and special without being too adventurous for the children.
Accommodation basic but clean with plenty of hot water and heating very efficient.
Communal rooms comfortable and clean and choice of board games available for evenings in. Bar prices reasonable.
About 15 min pleasant walk to slopes, but ski bus passes close by and ski garage at bottom of slopes.
