Jan 2008, Mrs B Stephenson

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. I have high standards when it comes to Hotels. I wasnt disappointed and I thought very reasonable for Paris. Very clean and stylish, new and light and airy. The rooms are smallish, but very functional. Very stylish bathroom... more

Clean and well located
Not a bad hotel. Located south of Montmartre, just a 10 minute stroll from the Moulin Rouge and 20 minutes from the famous Sacre Coeur cathederal and the Place du Tetre with its bustling street cafés and portrait artists. From here there are spectacular views across Paris. The hotel is ideally placed for the short break sightseer. With St. George's Metro station bang on the doorstep, the hotel is also within walking distance of Gare du Nord station (where the Eurostar terminates) and opposite the Moulin Rouge you can catch the 'L'Open Tour' open top double decker which passes all Paris' famous attractions. Back to the hotel, our room was air-conditioned and clean, but it was rather small and the bed was quite firm. My only other negative comment was that there wasn't a very wide choice at breakfast... and there was no English (Indian/Ceylon) tea; just Earl Gray bergamot - so if you like your traditional breakfast cuppa, bring a few tea bags with you!
fab hotel in a quiet and up and coming area
This recently refurbished hotel is very comfortable with tasteful minimalistic decor, comfortable rooms with air con and new bathrooms - fab power shower! We stayed here for two nights over a weekend, and were very happy with the room and service. The metro station is next to the hotel. This is the only downer as you can hear the trains rumbling through the tunnels - take earplugs! The area around the hotel has some great little bars - one down the road has Pete Doherty's tamborine on the wall - the owner is very friendly and chatty and plays Libertines CD on request! good choice of food ranging from Japanese to North African and some cute little shops.. especially jewellery atelier Linda Lacroix round the corner - really unusual costume jewellry and corsages... The area doesnt feel too touristy either, although its within walking distance of Sacre Cour, Montmatre etc. Also really convenient for the Eurostar terminal at Gare Du Nord.. we walked there on the way back.. took around 15 minutes...We would definately stay here again. Recommended!
Great place to stay!!
Don't let the thought of a Best Western chain hotel fool you. This place was awesome, and didn't feel chain-like at all! The staff was absolutely wonderful, helping my husband and me track down our luggage from the airport. They also helped with any other issues that we had (like not having the right sized adapter for the plug). The rooms were quaint, but very clean. A/C existed (which can be rare in European hotels). Hotel is located less than a 2-minute walk from one Metro station, and about a 5-10 minute walk from another (different lines). Mont-martre and Sacre Coeur (sp?) within very reasonable walking distance from the hotel itself. Shopping (Printemps, etc.) within walking distance as well. Definitely worth the price! Again, the staff was the best I've ever seen. Always willing to go above and beyond, make suggestions for restaurants, etc. Just wonderful!!
Dreadful Hotel - Do not stay here
Dreadful hotel - My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend - the room was absolutely tiny and we had booked and paid for a superior room. When I asked to be moved, I was told all the rooms were the same size. When I pointed out that on the fire escape route plan on the back of the room door, a floor plan of the hotel proved we were in the smallest room, I was told "In that case, we are full" - The concierge was rude, and unhelpful - we could not get ice, and they refused to order a taxi for us - Do not stay here if you want a romantic weekend in Paris - It ruined it for us and will for you too.
clean modern hotel
I had a comfortable stay at the Lorette Opera for 4 nights during May 2005. The hotel is in a great location, 9th arrondissement, within walking distance of the Moulin Rouge at Place Blanche, Place Pigalle, funicular to Montmartre, St. Lazare train station, Opera Garnier (with bus to the airport), and the big department stores. To use the metro, the St Georges station is literally steps away. In fact it is so close that you can feel the metro rumbling under the hotel - my only complaint albeit a minor one (may be a problem if you are a light sleeper and you want to sleep before the metro shuts down at 1 am). There is street noise but the double french doors are great and this was not a problem. The decor is clean and modern, rooms are outfitted with blond wood, beds are firm and room includes a safe, phone, and a tv. There is climate control. The bathrooms are clean and with good showers. Internet access in room for those with a device, otherwise there is a computer downstairs where you can pay for internet with a credit card. The breakfast room is in this cute cavern-like basement. The lobby is bright and chic, with armchairs and newspapers. At night it's cute with lights twinking on the floor. There's also an outdoor patio. The elevators are huge by Parisian standards, there are two and they are decorated with rose petals. 24h desk service was courteous and helpful, with all desk personnel speaking very good english. Maid service was good and respected the do not disturb sign when I had to sleep in. All in all an excellent recommendation for a budget-to-medium priced room.
2 star hotel, 1 star service
The room we had at this hotel was very large as far as European hotels go and it is right across the street from the metro station...unfortunately, that is about the only positive things that I can say about this hotel, other than if you're on a very tight budget than this might be the place for you (appx $100 night for a double room). The service at this hotel was very poor: the front desk was very put off by our requests, sometimes rude and almost always aggrivated by our questions. The hotel/room offers no amenities such as room service or in room movies and the housekeeping staff kept walking in on us and waking us up in the morning because we were interrupting their cleaning schedule by wanting to sleep in. The only advice moving forward that I can offer is that if you are not someone that needs a nice hotel, just a clean place to sleep this is a very good alternative to a hostel.
Brilliant! You cant ask for more!!!
My husband and I stayed at the Lorette Opera for two nights in May for our 1st wedding anniversary. The hotel is wonderful - everything from the twinkly lights set into the stripped wooden floors when you arrive, to the imaculate bathrooms! The rooms are a decent size for Paris with a very comfy full size double bed, desk, TV, wardrobe and safe (very useful). The bathroom was lovely - bright white, extremely clean with lovely fittings including a power shower. Lots of hot water at any time of the day for reviving showers after hours of walking around! The people on reception were so helpful, giving us maps and advising us of great places to get breakfast outside the hotel (the breakfast at the hotel is expensive at 14 euros each. For a great boulangerie, go right out the hotel and walk up about 5 mins and the first boulangerie you come to is the best! We stocked up on croissants and pain au chocolat and sat in the little secluded park opposite the hotel each morning). The hotel is in a great location - 25 min walk from Gare du Nord if coming by Eurostar. 20 min walk from Sacre Cour via Pigalle (for you Moulin Rouge fans!) (well worth a visit) and 30 seconds from metro station (the metro is great in Paris and can get you to the Eiffel Tower in 8 minutes!). I cant recommend this hotel highly enough - we will be returning!!
Great location, large sized rooms and medium sized problems.
The rooms are huge, especially for a Paris hotel. We comfortably fit an additional cot into our two twin bedroom. The decor of the room was bright and airy. The location was just a few stops from a metro station and within walking distance to some great cafes, Moulin Rouge, and other attractions. The staff on during the evening hours was great, while the daytime staff seemed a bit put off by any questions. The reason my review is lower is because housekeeping walked in on us an average of 3 times a day. They'd start trying to come in around 8am and then keep coming back (waking us up, catching us in our underware etc), despite us putting up a do not disturb sign and calling the front desk. The front desk called our room trying to hurry us out so that housekeeping could come in (this was after we called to say dont worry about making up our room, we were jet lagged and wanted to sleep in). When I pointed out to one staff member that the sign on the door said do not desturb, he replied, "why"? Also any time we called the front desk to ask for something (i.e an iron) they told us to come down and get it. We also recieved two wakeup calls that we didnt order. So if you want a great room for the price and a good location and can handle the errors of the front desk, then this is the place for you. I loved our rooms, but being walked in on got old really fast.
Very clean modern hotel
We stayed at the hotel 5/6 May 2005. We found it very easy to reach from the CDG Airport even though we came in on the train. We checked in quickly and our room was ready at 11.30am even though they said check in was normally 1.00pm. The room was small but very well decorated and clean. The only problem was that we were on the 1st floor in a corner so there was no view (apart from an air conditioning unit). We could only see the sky if we stuck our head out of the window and looked up. It was very warm when we were there but the staff told us they didn't turn the air conditioning on until May 15th so the room did get a little stuffy. But for how much time we spent there it was ideal. It is close to the metro and didn't take us long to get to any of the main tourist attractions from there. We had breakfast the first morning we were there. It was a little on the expensive side but we just made sure we had plenty. All in all we thought the hotel was very good and would definitely stay there again but would ask for a different room.
Lovely, enjoyable stay.
We stayed for 2 nights in April after looking at reviews on this website. We were NOT disappointed. We were given a room on the top floor (road side) I think it was 603 but could be wrong. Anyway - the room was more than adequate in size for 2 people with 3 seperate rooms. One being a double bedroom with sloping ceiling, another being a lounge area with TV, Large wardrobe containing electric safe, table, sofa bed also sloping ceiling with velux window of which opened out onto a breath taking view of the Eifel Tower both at day and even more so at night! (All windows containing blackout blinds) And then last of all the third room - a huge bathroom with power shower/bath, clean towels daily. Location - perfect! We went to Paris on the eurostar and caught the metro to the hotel, easily found as the hotel is visible from the metro exit (St George) Rather than taking the underground everywhere we enjoyed a pleasant walk from the hotel to the River Seine / Louvre area. Overall this hotel made our first trip to Paris very enjoyable, with good feedback that went home to our friends and family. We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel - Oh and the staff speak perfect English which helped!
