Attention to detail and extra touches - first class
from Matt-Holiday-Rentals
Fantastic restort. It was lovely we stayed in a garden view, large rooms and beds hot shower bath, sky tv, balcony remote control next to the bed for lights. The pool's were excellent and the hotel provides the towels a few nice touches like bringing you cold face towels and fruit while sunbathing. The breakfast's were excellent. Sadly and unluckily we both got food poisoning not from the resort!! at a place called the treehouse which is meant to have a good reputation. So we really did spend a lot time in the room and appreciated clean bathroom. No need to go in to detail. The massages by the beach (resort staff) are brilliant the best I have ever had to be honest. Food we ate a few times at the place on the right as you come out of the resort, good food but the staff are too cool for school. The only small critism I would have is the beach does have a little bit of litter - kids shoes for some reason? The other beaches we saw on the island were a bit busy though and would still have chosen this over the other ones we saw. The sea and beach was lovely directly outside and shallow sandy bliss. I did feel that it was quite expensive (thai) prices but UK prices a complete bargain! We did not see many of the other resorts of which there are loads! Would I book again yes, should suit all i.e families too. Careful with hiring mopeds great to get around the island but I saw so many bad cuts bruises from probably idiot brits driving badly ( saw a lot of it) but worth being extra careful back brake down the hills etc. Do not let this put you off we had NO problems at all. The waterfall we did not go and see as it is dry season so not much to see. I would like to go back but spend more time outdoors :-)
Great Place for kids
from DRStockholm
Excellent place to go to with your family. I was there with my family over christmas and it was just superb. The kids loved the place and specifically the staff. Lovely people. Great pool(s) for children. The beach is very nice. The food is OK but the best food is served at the Treehouse Lodge a few hundred meters south of the hotel. Also Nature Rock just next to the hotel has excellent and cheap food. Chilled and laid back places. I can also recommend a few days trip to Koh Maak and the Makathanee resort there is very nice.
Fantastic place, the real taste of luxury for a reasonable price
from jfavril
Fantastic place, fantastic furniture in bungalows, great swimming pools, great services on the beach (diving, barbecue restaurants, massages...), not crowded, people are always willing to help. We were with 2 young children, great place for them, but also great place for a honeymoon. The only thing is that the tours they book are overpriced : they charge 7000 baths (150€) for a taxi to Bangkok while we paid 4000 baths nearby. If you can afford it, I recommand taxi to go there it is shorter and more flexible than on a bus.
Perfect, just perfect

I found this place through TripAdvisor at a time when a tour operator could only find the most expensive hotels in Thailand. Remarkably, this is not the most costly hotel to reside in and when full, which it was, you might never know. There are three fantastic elements about it. 1) People/Staff. Always friendly. From the hotel manager to the garden staff to the restaurant staff and so on. Everyone always says hello. 2) The Beach. It's a stones throw and the best part is, if you prefer to sit on the sun loungers, you can do that, station yourself there for the day and just wander in and out of the sea as you please - there is of course the two swimming pools to help yourself to as well. 3) Location. Nowhere is too far. If you choose not to eat at the hotel, you can walk along the beach to two sets of back packers. (One each way). Both have a restaurant and a place to have a beer or nine! You could also get into one of their little taxi type vehicles where you negotiate your ride, (per person), and they take you to wherever you want to go along the route. There are lots of fish restaurants, as well as diving centres in a place called Bang Boa. It's a right turn as you come out of the hotels main entrance. All the taxis know it and I'm sure that one of the hotel security guards will help you hail one if you've not done it before. Most taxi journeys should range from 50 baht to 100 baht. Any more and I think that they are having their wicked way with you. Koh Chang is a quiet island, it would appear that there are parties happening around but I don't think it's famous for them. It was fun on New Years Eve though. I'm sure Samui, Phi Phi and some of the others will offer more of a party scene. However, if you want diving, beach, sea, sun, sand, nice food and generally a welcomed break, I cannot recommend it highly enough... and my gosh, it was cheap! Couple of bowls of noodles, chicken dish or two, two beers, large water was about £4 or $8 (US). If you're going, I would recommend the high end of the accommodation. I don't think it's that much more but the effect will outweigh the extra cost. Having said that, the basic room, which is all that was left for us, are more than adequate, consisting of a large bathroom, separate shower, balcony and plenty of space in the room. Finally, get your laundry done before you go - save dealing with it at home and it wasn't expensive! Bargain!
The perfect place to relax and unwind
from Kept
We visited this resort after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, and we were not disappointed. We were booked to stay for 7 nights, and ended up staying for 11 (after cancelling our booking with Seaview - which looked nice, but the beach wasn't as appealing.) The room was perfect (we stayed in a seaview deluxe bungalow, and I agree with other reviews that is worth paying the extra). But we did ask for a bungalow further back from the beach because the bar next door (Nature Rocks) does get quite noisy in the evening. The staff were very friendly - particularly the woman on reception who was very helpful, and spoke excellent English. The beach was lovely, and after visiting other parts of the island we were very glad to have chosen there. The beach is shared with the many back packer resorts, but as the hotel has its own sunlougers set slightly back from the beach you never have to fight for towel space! (and the afternoon offering of fresh fruit and cold towel is a very nice touch) The only downside was the restaurant which was never busy (this could be because it was the beginning of the season?) We ate there one night, and were the only people there! The food was good, but for atmosphere it is worth going to the back packer resorts which have BBQs on the beach, and are very good value for money. All in all we would thoroughly recommend this resort. Koh Chang will change as more and more developments are built but right now Lonely beach is an idylic get away, and this hotel the perfect place to stay.
Best Vibe/Service and cheapest price for our whole trip!
from lilsiam
We went to the Bhumiyama as our first Thailand stop on our honeymoon. I was concerned about the prices being so much lower than the amari and other top resorts on the island of koh chang, but we were not disappointed! As soon as we got there we were greeted by the warmest staff and a beautiful room - for sure get the upgrade to the deluxe ocean view room! The food there was some of the best that we had while on our trip. It was very peaceful and not touristy or pretentious at all. We moved to the Amari on our fourth night and although this is an extremely nice hotel with all the ammenities- very first class- it lacked the charm and warm vibe of the bhumiyama. It was also three times the price (excellent rooms though) I'll always remember this place as our favorite stay and introduction to Thailand. PS- the girls infront of the hotel that give thai massages in the little hut are EXCELLENT! 250 Bhat for an hour (or so) and you will feel like a new person!
Rude Manager
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Manager at the Bhumiyama is a tiny Thai Chinese woman, who refuses to staff the Receprtion Desk (can you imagine that), and orders her workers to stay behind a closed door in an air-conditioned room. In order to get some help, one is forced to ring a bell (in the unairconditioned reception room) and wait for one of the clerks to come out and help. If you request that you be given a second key to your room, she will refuse, saying that is aginst the rules. The beach is rocky, and a very loud Beach Bar will keep you awake until 3:00 AM every night. Avoid this nightmare and opt for the Amari instead
Paradise
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Bhumiyama Beach Resort is beautiful, and after a few hectic days in Bangkok chaos, it is paradise. The pools and landscaping in the resort are absolutely fabulous as is the area for beach chairs. We stayed in a bungalow sea view deluxe, but it was worth the price : the room was are spacious, very clean and tastefully designed with dark wood, hardwood floors, a fridge, dvd player… Our bathroom was open-aired, except for a small roof over the sink and toilet but the floor, bathtub and shower are under the sky and coconut trees. The food is good but expensive for Thai standard... a better deal is to walk down the beach to the back-packers eateries, very good and cheap. The service is average and we felt that this was where the Bhumiyama could improve...Paying attention to the little details would make this resort perfect. To get there : we took a bus from Bangkok to Trat (5hrs, 200B), then a songthaw to the terminal (20mn, 50B), then the ferry (45mn, 200B?) then another songthaw from the ferry terminal to the hotel (100B per person). Don’t forget to say 'Lonely Beach' rather than Bhumiyama to avoid price inflation... To return to Bangkok, we decided to take a flight and then everything was easier : asking the hotel desk the day before you leave, Bangkok Airways sends a minivan to pick you up for 300B all included to Trat airport (i.e. same as doing it by songthaw!) then a flight of 45mn to Bangkok for approx 45€. Conclusion : it is paradise and we would stay there again! One advice : don’t expect to have fun at Bhumiyama, it is not the place to party and it is far away from any kind of civilisation! This is a romantic and quiet place to relax, sipping a cocktail by the pool watching the sun set. You see?
Almost Perfect
from CANINLON
We reserved for one night and ended up staying for 4. The Bhumiyama Beach Resort is beautiful. The pool, landscaping and beaches are paradise. You do pay for this however, with the Bhumiyama being one of the more expensive resorts on the island. Perhaps not the best value for money. Their internet rates appear cheaper than those for 'walk-ins'. The rooms are spacious, very clean and tastefully designed. The food is good (coconut shakes are amazing) but expensive... a better deal is to walk down the beach to 'Nature Rocks' for delicious and cheap food. The service is average and we felt that this was where the Bhumiyama could improve...Paying attention to the little details would make this resort perfect. Finally, we had no problems getting to the resort- the songthaws from the ferry should cost 80Bhat per person, but it is helpful to request simply 'Lonely Beach' rather than Bhumiyama to avoid price inflation... To return to the ferry, simply wait on the driveway and flag down a songthaw (again 80Bhat) or the hotel will arrange a private taxi for 800Bhat. The trip takes about 45 minutes. It is paradise and we would stay there again!
An Oasis
from Hosta_La_Vista
After getting to Koh Chang Island, the first thing you will see are the open-aired taxis that will take you and anyone else needing a ride to your resort. Unfortunately, they make up prices and if they think you want to negotiate they tell you they either won't take you or will charge you instead of $15 instead of $3 and there is not a thing you can do about it. Best to arrange pick-up with the resort ahead of time unfortunately travel agents don't tell you this. When the taxi finally got us to the resort (which he could not find because the resort name is written in english but many Thais do not recognize the english letters also the name is broken in 2 by a picture of a seahorse confusing them). The bell-boy and the front counter person looked at our confirmation and said it was not the right place. We could see it written on a vehicle so we knew it was. After much debate we saw our name on a posted board and they then believed us. The manager however speaks english and was able to help us. Once there however, it is a beautiful resort on the best beach on Koh Chang Island - Lovely Beach. Rooms have hardwood floors, a fridge, dvd player and everything you will need. Again, mini-bar prices are too expensive but the laundry prices are reasonable. The bathrooms for the upstairs rooms are open-aired. A small roof over the sink and toilet but the floor, bathtub and shower are under the sky - even when it rains and everything gets soaked. Getting up in the night looking for geckos is kind of creepy. Restaurant for all inclusive breakfast is great so are the staff. Prices for ordering lunch and dinner are exoborant and most guests go to the several back-packers eateries just a few steps down the beach. You can get bbq'd prawns for $1.50 and cheap cheap beer. Inexpensive internet is also right beside the resort on both sides. The pools in the resort are absolutely fabulous as is the area for beach chairs. Sometimes the back-packers sneak in for a swim and sit, but not really a problem.

A solid 3 star, possibly stretching to 4, modern hotel set at the quieter end of Koh Chang. The serivce level was very good for what we paid - helpful reception staff, who watched our bags whilst we waited for our room to be ready. The room itself, a first floor upgraded... more
