3 star hotel, dont be fooled no where near a 5 star
from SuffolkDuchess
booked on last minute .com, got a great deal, firstly the hotel should be classed as 3 star, but that is what we expected, if you go expecting 5 star you will be disapointed. food was good for first couple of days , then at least 80% of guests went down with tummy upset, free bus to kardemena every couple of hours , at least half the bus would head straight for the chemist. not sure what caused it but it was plagueing all 3 hotels in complex. rooms were large, beach not great but they arent in this area, pool great, staff lovely, hotel a bit jaded in places but nothing terrible, got what we paid for would have prefereed not to have upset stomachs though, we are still being treated by docter at home a week after returning with anti biotics. if you wnat to use facilitys at other two hotels it costs 15 euros per day for each person. day trips as always are much cheaper in kardemena, get the free bus into town and book, all trips will pick up at the hotel, bodrum is a great day out for all the designer rip offs, sunglasses, t shirts, handbags, pens, watches etc, they like english pounds and euros, not turkish lira so dont change currency up. hope you dont get gippy tummy
family village, a 20 yr old's perspective

went to kardamena with 4 other guys, we wanted an All Inclusive resort and family vilage was nicley priced. location> an 8.5 euro taxi ride into kardamena, worked out ok but if we stayed again would probably want a hotel within walking distance of bars/clubs hotel>nice, clean, built on a steep hill. food was ok, repetitive by the end of 2 weeks, you will no doubt need to eat out. drinks, real strong! young people: overall we had a ball, in all fairness though i dnt think its geared towards youngsters (look at the name).unless ur going to eat and drink loads and on a budget (as i was), would probably recomend you stayed closer 2 town. families:clean, good facilities, food for kids, just be prepared to walk up a 100m hill to lunch.
A Great Family Holiday
from Bossiwat
We have just returned from one of the best holiday’s our family has ever had. As the name of the hotel suggests this hotel is ideal for families. From early morning till late in the evening each member of our family was entertained and our ages range from 50 to 6 years old. As other reviews have hinted, the star ratings in Greece are slightly more generous than Britain’s however, if ratings were given out for entertainment value and customer service then this hotel would surpass its four stars. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, and each room had a large fridge, two-ringed hob and a large bar area (which is ideal for catering for young children). The all inclusive package is just as described, everything is included, unlike all inclusive packages in Spain you are not made to feel guilty for accessing what is in your package. I feel I must describe just how friendly this resort is since I believe this is why our holiday was so successful. Firstly, the restaurant staff are to be commended for their excellent service and friendly disposition, nothing was ever too much for them. Secondly the bar staff always greeted each customer with a smile and soon became friends with just about every patron. Finally, the entertainment staff, this crowd of holiday entertainers really are a credit to this hotel, their ability to communicate with the wide ranging languages of the guests was exceptional. Furthermore, the whole team (talented bunch) put on a variety of different shows every evening, from Riverdance, Children’s Disco’s, comedy acts (which were hilarious), stunts/magic shows to Michael Jackson and Dance variety. Let’s just say you were never bored! The friendliness didn’t end there, all hotel staff and management were extremely helpful and friendly and apart from a few arrogant German’s so were all the guests. Most of the visitor’s were families so all had the same goal, happy children, happy parents and as any parent knows if the children are happy then so are the parents. This hotel offers just that, happy children happy parents. Moving on, the food as has been suggested is repetitive, although there is ample choice, I’m a vegetarian and found more choice than I normally do abroad, however, the pasta dishes that I usually looked forward to would often have meat included as did the vegetables and potatoes. The main hotel pool is salt water, which takes a few days to get used to but it was, for some reason easier for the children to swim in. The salt kept them afloat. The water slides and beach are just as described well equipped and full of fun. There are a few downsides to this hotel, for instance, there are no plastic cups for drinks, so glass is constantly around the slippery pool area which evidently resulted in a good few accidents of cut feet. Also there were a lot of flies in the restaurant area, very off putting, my advice is take some insect repellent wipes and put on your table, worked for us. Overall, I fully recommend this hotel, yes the rooms could do with a spruce up but since there is so much to do you’ll probably never notice. I’d definitely return again.
Fantastic accomodation, but poor location
from loucNorthEast
Where do I start? Our room was fantastic, really spacious and clean, but unfortunately we were situated right at the very top of the whole complex (which is HUGE). It is a VERY speep hill, not suitable for the elderly or children. The food at first was good, lovely stone baked pizza's and salads, and deserts etc, but you soon realise that after a few days it becomes very repetative and we were there for two weeks. The good thing is though you can upgrade to black bands so you are therefore able to use the Norida Beach (which has a fantastic Chinese, well worth it) and the Summer Palace. It only cost us £21 for the day for two adults and the children are free. The softs drinks are really dodgy too, very salty and undrinkable. Lets hope you never have to complain as the manager of the hotel is completely useless. On our last couple of days we discovered that a group of 18 lads aged around 18-19 had arrived. The language around the pool was disgusting and they were lying right beside the childrens pool, they were drinking all day getting extremely drunk and kept on smashing glasses (why they dont use plastic at this hotel is beyond me) one little boy cut his foot because of them. We then discovered they were all staying in the rooms surrounding us. We put in several complaints, and eventually seen the manager who just did not want to know. I cant believe they would let that many lads stay there when it is obviously a FAMILY hotel and not an 18-30. So just keep this in mind before booking. The rest of the staff were lovely, really friendly, especially Wanna who runs the kids club. All in all it was a good cheap holiday, but will not be returning, although I have to say the Norida Beach is brilliant and would definately stay there. (Mind you the whole complex is very German orrientated. And finally the sun shone for two weeks solid, not a cloud in the sky although temperatures did hit the 40s.
So Helpful

We got back from the family village 4 days ago after spending 2 weeks there. We arrived at the hotel early hours so come first light we were unpacked and eager to see where we were. We were not disapointed, our first impressions of the place was how clean and modern the it was. Our room was on the second floor and we had a set step ladders going from our balcony to a pool which was directly underneath, on first sight it looked idylic but after trying to scale them I thought I was on the north face of the Iger. It is definately not a place for the faint hearted as it is situated on a very steep hill and in bakeing tempretures it could cause a few problems. Some of us were a bit puzzeled, having the understanding that we could use all the mitsis hotels on the island. I'm afraid this is not the case and please check before setting off to use them. All of the pools are salt water and the ones attached to the rooms are so salty you float, its almost an impossibility to swim in them, Theres one good thing though, you'd never drown. Please be aware pool sides when wet are trecherouse I shall finish by giving credit where its due, nothing is to much trouble for any of the staff, the manager especialy, his presence was ever visable and nothing ever got passed him, he patrolled the place from dawn till dusk. A VERY NICE PLACE!!!
excellent cheap holiday

just a short one to say that the family village kardemena was a fantastic value for money holiday, for two adults sharing we paid around £300pp (flights, transfers, hotel the lot) for an ai weeks holiday. me and my partner had no problems at all the staff were ever so friendly, the food was nice (especially the stonebaked pizzas made fresh for you), the room was very spacious (it even had its own kitchen area if you didnt fancy going to dinner) it was cleaned daily to a very high standard, there is a bar on the private beach that you can get alcoholic drinks, hotdogs, cakes, sandwiches etc all day long for free!! pedalo hire is free there are many nice pools for the kids to play in, all in all it was a very enjoyable holiday, so much so that we are looking to book with them this year. sorry no photos but our camera broke!
Never Again
from EmmaRoid
We stayed here in july 2006, 1st of all the room looked ok at first glance, but the door did not lock & it looked like it had been kicked in a few times so didnt really feel safe. The bathroom was fine except for lack of water on numerous occasions, there was also no privacy as the window was clear glass & the shower was situated directly in front of the window so anyone across on the opposite balcony could view you taking a shower, the window did not close properly & the strong winds kept rattling the window. The food was very repetative with only a couple of different items changed. there were also long queues waiting for space to become available in the dining room, it seems that they are building more & more rooms but not expanding the central facilities, so the pool was crowded the seating areas at night were soon taken up & also long queues to get served for drinks as there was only one man serving drinks but he did a good job under the pressure. We were in a minority of english people as they seemed to cater for German folk who were very ignorant especially when it came to the dining room, we were constantly waiting for food to be cooked with 10 minute waits for chips & hot meat to be cooked, but as soon as the next lot of food was ready the germans just filled there plates as much as they could get on then you had another 10 minute wait for the next lot of food to be cooked. The entertainment was repetative & was held in an enclosed area near the pool & you had to leave your seats & go & stand up for the entertainment, it would have been better if they had held it in the centre of the pool area so you could watch it from the seating areas. Overall it felt like a cattle market & it was very tiring as it was placed on the side of a mountain & we had a very steep climb to the top to get to our room, it was also a perilous trek down to the beach with very slippy steep steps, not recomended for small children or the elderly. We made the most of it but will definatley not be going there again.
good hotel! please read review!

The hotel itself was really nice, kept clean and tidy, the rooms were cleaned everyday. A good hotel for both aduls and kids. Me and my Boyfriend had a big spacious room next door to my mums room which was a bit smaller with 3 people in it, but the views were brilliant from our room, we could see the sea and the islands in front of us. There were a few problems of ants and woodlice near the apartments, some actually got into my apartment but thats what you expect in a foreign country. There were a lot of mosquitos and Moths at night time but they where too interested in the lights than humans! The entertainment at night was brilliant, especially with the two lads from the czech!, one called max. they were great and always came and chatted to us! The pool was saltwater and was kept clean for the first few days of our stay, towards the end of the week it wasnt cleaned very well, there was dead moths, bugs etc around all the edges of the pool, luckily there is another great pool with 2 slides and a baby slide down at Norida beach which was fun! The food was nice, breakfast especiially. with a mix of mostly english food, some german sausages and creps. Lunch had a range of things on offer to eat and so did dinner whcih was all very nice, there was the same things there a few different nights but the food was nice all together. If you go here you then a reccomend you go all inclusive as it gts so hot there we drank loads all day and at night! and it was all free! The hotel is on a steep hill, but is not too bad there is a bus that comes up to the family village. there is a lift from the beach up to the hotel which we did find towards the end of the holiday!! The beach was ok, though full of red ants which was not very nice really. there was hot dogs and drinks free on the beach as we were all inclusive and free pedal boat hire. I do have some pictures but im not able to put them on here at the minute. Joanne
Mixed Feelings

Travelled with Sunstar last August. Had read reviews so was prepared for Cardiac Hill, etc. We were placed in the Family Village, between the Norida and Summer Palace. All three belong to the Mtsis hotel chain so you could be placed anywhere. This worked fine for us as we were placed near to the waterslide pool (kids were delighted) and just up some steps from the main hotel. We were very pleased with our room, though we had to report to Reception about ineffective airconditioning. They did send in the technicians(?) after the third friendly reminder (we're not big complainers), but unfortunately the air conditioning remained ineffective for the duration. We met some nice people there and tended to entertain ourselves. The entertainment was pretty hi de hi. If that's not your thing, the five star foyer has numerous couches for lounging on while having a drink and a chat. Food was okay for AI. Make sure you check out the homemade soups, we only found them three days into the holiday. A faint smell of sewage would pervade the complex early in the morning and around five pm. Heard couple did have problems with sewage seeping into their room in different area of complex to ours. This was due to people in room above forgetting that, on Kos like many other greek resorts, toilet paper should be binned not flushed. Someone in main hotel did see cockroaches in room and asked to be moved, possibly due to room's location. Our room was however spotlessly clean and kept this way by the maid each day. The only problem (besides the airconditioning) we had with this holiday was our return journey. We ended up being delayed for three days - great at first, but having to check the notice boards every few hours to see when we would be leaving soon became a bit of a nightmare. We ended up with no more clean clothes and unable to wash any because we were never sure if we would be leaving at a moment's notice. Sunstar used Alexandair which only had one plane. This experienced technical problems. Unfortunately rep made himself unavailable and Sunstar and local office gave conflicting information. In the end the problem was aired on Granada Reports back in UK. Eventually we were nervously flown out on the Alexandair plane, seventy hours later (big cheers on arrival at Manchester). The girls on Reception were probably the least customer friendly receptionists I've ever met, but their bark was worst than their bite and they responded best to good manners and a smile. I saw many people trying to argue with them to no avail. If you are going to this resort, I would say check out who you are flying with. We got the impression they often experience flight delays. I would also recommend you take advantage of some of the excursions on offer. We only did one as our previous holiday had been quite hectic with what we crammed in, but after a week we had definitely had more than enough of sitting around the pools and bars. The local town, Kardamena, was okay for a wander, but was just full of the same types of touristy shops, etc, not much else!
okay

firstly the proximity to kos airport is very convenient, the swimming pool was nice, although it was saltwater, they cater well for kids, the food is ok, but i would recommend the restaurants in kardamena, one especially called the nemo bar, the use of all the mitsis hotels on kos was also handy as on our trips to the hot spa's we could get drinks for free on our all inclusive package, the watersports facility on the beach is good and the following sports facilities within the complex: Basketball courts tennis courts. and more, the weather in kos when i was there was neutral with several thunder storms, being in the furthsest room up the mountain, it was worrying, if you have younger children, then ask for rooms closer to the pool etc otherwise lots of walking is involved.
If you have a family this is an ideal holiday however as I was with my girlfriend we did not really appreciate this as we were there to relax. The resort is about 1-2 miles away from the town of Kardemaina that has plenty of resteraunts and shops full of the usual. I love... more
