Stay here to enjoy your holiday !
10 / 10
Oct 2010, DonandMo

We recently had a very enjoyable 2 weeks at this small family run hotel, and we will be going back next year. The staff will do what it takes to help make your holiday great, the food is excellent and very well priced - try the pizzas Yiannis makes, they are the best. No entertainment is provided, you make your own with your new friends - hotel entertainment is usually poor anyway. Ther are shower/steam cabinets in the rooms, which are clean and big enough. If you want a lively night you can walk down the hill into Hersonnisos in 15 minutes which is a lively resort. Koutouloufari is quiet and so pleasant - there are many good eating places and a few bars but the Ariadne is very friendly. So stay there and have a great holiday.

Just arrived back from a week's stay...

Sep 2008, Miss G Smallman

Just arrived back from a week's stay in the Ariadni Apartments, Koutouloufari. Bit disappointed with the service from First Choice rep as they disembark the coach before everyone is dropped off at their place of stay. Do not be alarmed when they drop you off at a roundabout and tell you to find your way 150 metres down the road to your apartment. Walk straight ahead and apartments are on your right. On arrival not all rooms were ready but lucky for us ours was. There are two apartment blocks to the accomodation- Block 1- very new and refurbished, Block 2- traditional "greek style".
For those looking for a quiet laid back holiday this is the place for you. It it a traditional Greek village with loads of bars, tavernas and restaurants. The main town of Hersonissos is a 20 min walk down the hill( heart attack hill on the way back) it isn't really heart attack hill if you enjoy walking and are fit and able - there is also another easier route to the main town - come out of the ariadni onto main road and turn right, following the "P" for parking signs and it will bring you to the church, and there it is straight down to the town.
If you like local everything then take a walk to the neighbouring village of Piskopiano- lots of places to eat and drink (10 mins walk- to the left of the ariadni) carry on for another 10 minutes and you will arrive at " old Hersonissos" a traditional greek village with a lovely main square surrounded by cafes and restaurants. This place is worth a visit in the daytime and on monday evenings they hold a Cretan music and dance night- excellent.
Also if you get the chance visit the aquarium on the MAIN high street, at the bottom of heart attack hill, by the bus station and taxi rank- 5 euros for adults less for the kids and you get to see all the local sea life and reptiles from the area. You will also get to see Stephania the blind green sea turtle- she's lovely and the aquarium depends on visitors for its upkeep.

Sep 2008, Mrs S Bartsch

Just returned from a holiday at these apartments and must say that it was one of the best times I've had. On arrival at Ariadni (in early hours morning ) the welcome from Manos & Evangelina was warm & friendly. In the apartment we found the kettle was not working and reported this. A new kettle was provided within hours. We were in the older apartments and although basic, they were very clean. Having socialised with several other guests it became clear that they also were enjoying their stay. All staff were helpful and food was good. Although our apartment overlooked the pool & bar we experienced no noise at all.
A great holiday base in a lovely village. Can't wait to go back

Sep 2008, Miss S Matthew

I have just come back from a week's stay at Ariadni Apartments and it was AMAZING! Yes the apartments are basic, BUT they have an old and a new set of apartments, which shows the upgrades are being made. If you are lucky to be in the updated apartments you will have no problems at all, as you have a very flash shower, TV and all mod cons. The old apartments are pretty much the same without the mod cons, Cleanliness is all that matter s to me on a holiday like this as you will spend as less time as possible in the apartment!
The Apartments are run by a VERY friendly family, consisting of Angela (The mum) who looks after day to day guest, Manos (The son) who provides entertainment in the evening, will get you very drunk and a good laugh at all times. Beware not to see much of him in the day as he is sleeping off the previous nights hangover, he works from roughly 5pm, till atleast 5am! so I think deserves the rest!
Waiters including Alex, George and Tony are also VERY friendly and sweet and all make your stay a fantastic one!
Thisis not a MAD, partying getting drunk location, although you will have a great time and more than likely get drunk a few nights or so, it is also still very child friendly and great for couples too. The village Koutoulafari, is one of the quieter ones, but has many bars, tavernas and restaaurants to choose from, Plus you have easy access to the surrounding towns.
I will DEFINATLEY be going back, mainly because I have a boyfriend there, but also because it is a wonderful, FUN place to to holiday for all the family! Don't listen to the bad reviews as they are obviously people who should have booked 5* accomodation. For a 3* type property it is just perfect and the entertainment, food, people are just simply amazing and you will be guaranteed to have the best holiday you hope for!

Ariadni apartments is a lovely base for exploring the surrounding villages and resorts. Staff are helpful, pleasant and are always keen to help. Never encountered any problems and all queries were dealt with in a gentle manner.
The owner is lovely, waiters were great at explaining dishes and efficient. Apartments Were clean, and sheets/towels/bins emptied regularly throughout the stay. Would definitely recommend to other holiday makers.

Aug 2008, Mrs P O''Keefe

We came back from Ariadni apartments this morning having had a marvelous holiday. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and staff very helpful. Children were very happy and well catered for, and everyone that we met said they would be going again. We had some great evenings and as long as someone wanted serving they were happy to stay open. There are lots of taverners and roof top restaurants in the village. We would not think twice about going again and would recommend this holiday to anyone.

Aug 2008, Miss J Lawrence

Iv just come back from my hols at the Ariadni palace and did have a few problems, but that was only because of First Choice! They put us down for a two bed studio when we needed a 3 bed. Manos` mother was very helpful and moved us to a bigger and better room. The family were Very friendly and helpful, if we had any problems they were sorted. We were even asked if we wanted to be relocated but we didn`t as the staff were so kind to us.
We were there for two weeks and the only fault i would say would be the lack of sleep due to the all night bar (manos you naughty man lol). I found ALL of the staff there really nice and didnt pressure us too much when we wanted to eat out, but i must say the food was amazing (in the evening). I got to know the satff there soo well that after a two week stay leaving felt like saying goodbye to family (i was close to tears). Tony, Manos, Alex and George i`ll miss you!
All three villages are so beautiful you must go at least once, one thing i will say is if you can DO NOT take a night flight, it was the worst i have EVER taken, it was like a night club, the language was disgusting, yubbish, and sleepless at 12.00 am and coming from a 20 year old thats saying something.
First Choice pull your finger out!

We decided to go on a last minute...

Jul 2008, Mr J BYRNE

We decided to go on a last minute deal for a week the Ariadni came up so we took it,slightly worried about some of the reports we had read, one especially by Mr A J Hall.
Can i just say it was one of the best holidays we have ever taken.
It is a family run business very small only 30 rooms in total. On arrival we were greeted pleasantly and our apartment was basic but nice all we needed for our stay.
We cannot fault the family they could not do enough for us, and Manos is a great barman and we would like to say friend,we had some wicked nights sat at the bar great fun and the Bar B Q was a brilliant night very well organised and the quiz and games that follow are fun. Giani makes the best pizza ever tasted and to watch him chucking the pizza bases around is amazing there is so much passion involved with this family they truly want you to have the best time. Some of the bad reviews are very one sided and we felt very strongly that this should be known, when you have families men throwing punches there wifes picking up knives and there children smashing plates and plant pots all over the place it does make you wonder what you are up against, when you are welcomed into there home.We would just like to say a very big Thankyou to all the family and we will definatly be going back and taking our family with us to.We also made some very lovely friends that we had a pleasure in spending time with so thanks to them to Brian (bear) Lou Hamish and Sal Hope to see you all again soon. You must try a Mikes special when you go.Everything is very clean and tidy the pool is lovely and there are lots of lovely roof top tavernas beautiful place.
Thanks again for making our stay a good one Jamie & Lisa

My boyfriend and I are a young couple...
10 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss A Collins

My boyfriend and I are a young couple in our 20's and have recently returned from a fantastic holiday staying in the beautiful village of Koutouloufari in Crete.
We stayed at the Ariadni Palace Apartments and were more than satisfied with our clean and spacious room, even though were were in the 'unfurbished' side of the apartments with the very... what shall we say... 'interesting' showers! We did find the apartments to be reasonably priced though and the rooms were thoroughly cleaned every 2 days throughout our 2 week stay. We were also in a perfect position, with the balcony catching the sun all day! The local supermarket, (with a very friendly shopkeeper!) is a 30 second walk and provides you with all you could think of to keep you going...
The staff were friendly on the whole, however, we were dissapointed with the attitude from the restaurant staff as they seemed to be less than impressed when we dined elsewhere! But with so many other restaurants on your doorstep (nearly all with beautiful sea views) - we were eager to try other places and so didn't appreciate or understand the narky comments from the waiters! That said, the few times that we did decide to dine at the Ariadni restaurant, we found the food to be very nice - especially the 'Ariadni Special' pizza which is baked in a wood oven and is very tasty - a real treat!
Koutouloufari is a reasonably quiet town, ideal for a relaxing, chilled out holiday... but if it's night life that you are after - Herssonnissos is the place to go! A 20 minute walk down 'heart attack hill' will bring you into the busy little town, full of life and with even more bars and restaurants and even a couple of night clubs!
The beach in Herssonnissos is nothing to write home about i'm afraid, as it is very stoney and no good for the feet! However, we found a much better one, also in Herssonnissos but not the main town, going by the name of Star Beach... and what a beach it is! Beautiful clear water, proper sand and a list of activities longer than your arm - this beach is more of a theme park and perfect for couples of all ages. Bungey jumping, jet skiing, water slides, swimming pools... you name it, Star Beach has it! A real must...
So all in all, we had an absoltuely fabulous holiday and will definately be returning to Koutouloufari again in the future.
