I have just spent a week at the Benalmadena Palace. I travelled with 2 children ages 4 and 2 and partner. The room was small but airy and clean, tho for a hotel that is only four years old it was a little grubby and worn, especially the bathroom. We ate twice in hotel, food was varied but a little bland and overpriced, much cheaper to go to main strip, where main courses are around ten euro, steak 12 to 14 euro.
The best thing about the hotel was the entertainment, Vicki and Patrice were both enthusiastic and very friendly, tho for my kids the night entertainment started a bit late, tho for older kids it is ideal.
My only real gripe was when I booked through my travel agent, I specifically asked for a quiet room, as my two year old is a light sleeper, I expected to be on 6th or 7th floor, but was on 4th overlooking the pool with a sea view, the downside was noise from the terrace (bar is on second floor). On two nights noise went on til almost 2.00am.
That aside, overall it was good, and would recommend it to others. Cannot comment on our Rep Michael as I only saw him twice, we didnt book any trips as we hired a car and went to Cordoba and Granada, both worth a look but be prepared for a 2 hour drive. Also a trip to Marina for a meal and shop is great, expect to pay a little more for food and souveneirs tho, little girl's flemenco style dress 30 euro at a shop on Marina only 8 or 10 on main strip!! Buyer beware.

Just arrived back from hotel, what can i say! Hotel is out of the way of shops etc, to get to the hotel you have alot of climbing to do, as hotel on a very steep hill! Room s in hotel were ok, big, clean comfortable, thou food leaves alot to be desired! Not much choice at all espically if you are taking kids. They seem to cater more for spanish/germans. Would recommend hotel on a self catering basis and if you are fit enough for the hill! i myself wont be returning!!

What can i say??? This hotel was fantastic
I went with my partner and 4 year old son for two week's on the self catering option.
The Outside pool's are lovely (although if you want to get a good sun bed get your towel down early!)
The indoor pool was great for cooling off in the hottest part of the day.
The drink's can be a bit pricey.............but in the snack bar between 5-6pm it is happy hour and again in the disco-pub between 10-11pm.2 for 1 on drinks!
We only ate in the restaurent once as we went into the town most night's,but the food was good.
The kid's entertainment was spot on,As was the mini-club,we did'nt see much of our son in the second week as he was having too much fun in there.
Activitie's are also held for the adult's throughout the day if you wish to join in.
Anthony,Patrice,Vikki and Jasmine all from the mini-club were fab.
The hotel is very clean,as are the room's,the maid came in everyday.
The hill is steep but you can go through the carpark if you wish, and at the back of the hotel there is a red brick road leading down the supermarket, very good value for money.
We loved this hotel so much that we booked to go again next year!

We have just returned today from the Benalmadena palace and have to say we had a brilliant time. Weather was perfect, Hotel spotlessly clean, staff friendly, entertainment for kids brilliant. My only suggestion not complaint is that the entertainment start a little earlier. My kids were flagging before main event came on usually at 22.00.
The 'killer' hill we were expecting was non existent. It is a hill yes, but killer, no unless you don't know about the car park short cut that is but we knew before we went so was no probs.
We didn't eat at the hotel much as it was quite pricey hence the 9 out of 10. Also there was not a lot of variety for vegetarians. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby and the Maxi supermarket next door is really cheap.
Can strongly reccommend Tivoli world for a top evening with kids there are loads and loads of rides and great shows too. We also Enjoyed Fungerolla (spelt wrong i know) zoo and Selwo Marine centre. It's very cheap to get a bus from the hotel to the beautiful marina and the buses seem to come every ten minutes (well we were never waiting longer than that).

this hotel is definately a no no if you want a relaxing holiday. the hill up to it is very steep and you will be ringing wet when you get to the top. its no good if you are not fit. the hotel is also a long way out, on the very edge of the resort about 45 mins from the marina.
facilities in the hotel are good my 16 year old had a ball staying up till 3 am each night. the pool area is very cramped reminiscent of a sardine tin. also you had to get up early for a sun bed. benalmadena is a very busy resort with a major dangerous road running through it.

Just back from a week's holiday- had such a great time. The hotel is in an ideal location- and although up a rather steep hill there is shortcuts for getting down it! The apartment we had was clean and the maids do a great job changing beds and cleaning the place up. The pools in the hotel are great- and the spa was lovely to relax in- although we couldnt find the turkish baths... We only ate in the hotel restaurant one night but it had a good selection of food, including vegetarian and made yummy cocktails!!

Arrived back yesterday from a great holiday. Friendly and helpful staff, good food and clean accommodation. The best part of the holiday was the children's entertainment. Antonio, Mirjam and Vicky were fabulous with our 2 girls aged 7 and 4. We had a few problems with other guests during our stay and the hotel staff went out of their way to help us. The hill isn't that bad, we've stayed in places with far worse hills and what do you expect with all the mountains around that region? Would definately consider going back to this hotel. Only downside... the price of snacks in the snack bar... quite expensive and on one occasion not very edible.

Modern building, friendly staff, predominantly English guests, excellent kids pool, excellent indoor pool & sauna, large chilly outdoor pool, great towel swap service - no need to take large beach towels with you, entertainment average but kids loved it, there were two happy hours at 5PM & 10PM, excellent bar/disco open until 3am with reasonable prices (€2.50 glass/wine, €2.10 for btl San Miguel), restaurant food very good but pricey - discounted if bought in advance or multiple days (€22.50 for B&EM - kids half price)
Rooms cleaned most days, quite small for 2 adults & 2 kids, most families seemed to sleep kids in the bedroom and Mum/Dad on the sofa, sofa uncomfortable but bearable. Rooms have heater/air con, fridge, 2-ring stove and microwave but no oven. Bath, shower, toilet, bidet etc first class. TV receives BBC1, BBC2, CEEBIES, ITV2, BBC, WORLDNEWS & SKYNEWS, excellent! Balcony small and exposed to all other balconies but adequate. Fair amount of shops, restaurants, bars on coast road 5 mins walk. Beautiful Marina 25 mins walk.
Short 200m steep hill from main coast road but the lift from the car park can be used to the third floor reception. It was little known that you could also use the lower Hotel Vistamar's car park lift to get to the Palace's car park if desperate.

Background information
We (my wife and our 17 month son) have just returned today, 1st March 2009 from a one week holiday at the Benalmadena palace.
(This is our first package holiday for 5 years, we used to book all our holidays through trailfinders so our expectations are quite high, unfortunately we don't agree taking a baby on long haul holidays so its 2-3 hours flying time max for the next few years)it was the 3rd holiday with the baby the other two being scheduled flights and booking hotels separately.
Flights
As a regaular flyer (twice a month with work) I found the total airport and flight experience a nightmare, I have never queued as much in my life. the check in desk wait was over an hour both ways, and various other long waits for passport control, getting on the aircraft, getting on your coach, on arrival at the hotel none of these were less than 30 minutes each. The seats are very close together on the aircraft.(I am 5 10 and my knees were touching the seat in front) They don't load aircraft by seat numbers resulting in a 30 minute process just to get to your seat. the flight crew are more akin to selling and making money than your comfort. you pay for everything, during the flight I was asked if I wanted to buy lottery tickets, duty free goods, drinks, food, snacks, etc not once was I asked if everything was ok. I imagine you will pay to use the toilet and the oxygen you breath before long. on the outbound flights they even separated the wife and I, even though we had a 17 month old baby on our lap, we complained and they reseated us at the back of the aircraft. on the return flight we got seats together and we asked if they were any spare seats so we could have 3 seats, we were told no spare seats were available. I got the window seat and my wife got the centre seat with a 25 stone 6 5 rugby player who got the aisle seat.he was that big he couldn't put the arm rest down, my wife was squashed against me and I had my face squashed against the window. Luckily after we took off the big chap and his wife realised they were empty seats available in the safety exit seats. (they charge you extra for these, hence why they would leave them empty rather than give them away) Charter flights are going more and more this way, (you get what you pay for)
Hotel
The first thing you notice about the hotel is the big hill, I had read about it on here after we had booked, so I was expecting a hill. I now know why they call it Cardiac hill ! You can view a video on ''you tube''. The hill has two half's the first slog takes you up to the carpark level where you can use the lift to miss out the second part of the hill. (I think the first part of the hill is worse than the second half.) (Try pushing a pram with a baby and the normal accessories up the hill, you will have big calf muscles by the end of the week) We hired a car for the week so we only did it once.
The hotel itself was great, its not the same standard as a 4 star that you get in the far east or at a business users hotel but it was better than I had expected. The staff were really friendly, the rep Kerry did a great job (even though we didn't book any excursions from her)the children's entertainer Patrice was brilliant. There was something to do all day for the children and adults. (although one area of improvement would be longer opening times of the childrens play area. 10am-4pm that's when most people are out and about and they like to come back and let the children run off some energy. The indoor pool was fantastic this time of the year.
Every night there was live entertainment in the disco bar. its starts off with children play time from 8.00pm until 9.30pm then the kids can go to the cinema or stay with you for the adults entertainment, they were singers, magicians, live bird show (feathered variety) reptile show, flamenco dancing, bingo, also you could watch all the live sports events on sky TV football rugby etc.
The hotel had lots of other facilities, games room, internet cafe, spa, sauna, gym, massage, hairdresser, washing machines,
A few tips which I didn't see on here, you can hire your pool side towels, 10 euros for the week, you can also hire a cot and high chair for your room, the towels are changed daily and you have a hairdryer and safety deposit box in your room. even though we were half board we still had a self catering room.with fridge, cooker, microwave and electric kettle.
In February the mix of guests was varied in ages, mainly parents with pre-school children. (half term week would have been older children) and the OAP groups.
The food was good (buffet style). (not excellent) the breakfast was as good as I have had in many business hotels or hotels of higher standard. you had the normal continental style meats, cheeses, pastries, cerals etc or the full english breakfasts cooked in front of you bacon, fried eggs, sausages etc. the evening meals had a few choices of starters, and about 4 or 5 different main course options, you would be struggling not to find something you liked. Its not restaurant standard, its mass catering more brewers fare standard of food.
Overall
We had a fantastic holiday. beside the flights and the airports. It exceeded my expectations and you get what you pay for, you can't get champagne for beer money. Its great for families and any age group, but I wouldn't recommend it it as a lads/girls holiday in the 18-30 theme.
We hired a car for the full week. a seat Ibiza we took our own baby seat,(its not part of your weight allowance)
