Playa Del Sol Costa Sur Hotel

We have just returned from Puerto Vallarta. Our week was fabulious and so was Costa Sur. We got into the resort on an Interval International bonus week, during the start of the summer. From the moment we arrived at the resort, the friendly bellhops took all of our luggage from the taxi and told us the luggage would be in our rooms by the time we got up there. If you stay here be sure it is in a one bedroom. We stayed in a studio and our experience was very disappointing. From the room smelling very strong of mold, shower with broken tiles with black mold, a frig that froze all items not once but twice, elevators that continuely broke down (staying on 12th floor), air conditioner sounded like an idoling lawn mower, lights that continued to flash when turned off, huge structural cracks in the baloney with deck light hanging by electrical wires. Hello, I was there as usual from March 9 -March 23 as I own those 2 weeks supposedly in a room certain. I had 2 letters of confirmation, one for each week. When I got to the Hotel at around 5 PM, I was told my room was already occupied because even though I had the letters of confirmation I was suppose to call again and confirm again which I had not done. I love this vacation experience despite the scams and bedbugs. First bedbugs can happen anywhere,it is how management handles it that we should ponder. After being chewed on for 3 nights I was convinced my bed had problems. My father in the other room had none...I looked like someones smorgasboard everywhere but my stomache.Managment refused to move us because the resort had no bugs. We stayed at Playa del Sol Costa Sur from March 20 - 27/06, due to an overbooking at Playa del Sol (downtown). We were told when we arrived at Costa Sur that there would some form of compensation for our increase in travel expenses caused by our being moved (taxi/bus costs)when we checked out. We believed what we were told (BIG mistake)and didn't bother the front desk during our stay. When it came time to check out, the manager was conveniently not around. We stayed here from 3/30/06 to 4/6/06. The staff was friendly but the pull out bed was broken and it made the week miserable. Watch out if you participate in a time share presentation. We were promised 15% off all food, drinks and spa for participating and did not get this upon check out. When I called to ask why the credit did not appear, I was told by the manager at the front desk that "this is Mexico - we can't refund your credit card" - though he admitted that a mistake was made and I should have received the discount.

Place was overall average. Let's start with food since that is my favorite. They had a very nice buffet each morning for breakfast. They had great dinners each night. If you participate in a timeshare seminar, you get 15% off everything which wasn't bad as all. Service was ok. I must say the worst part of the stay was the bedrooms. They definitely need an upgrade. Location is pretty good - easy busing both N & S. Nice man-made cove for swimming, snorkeling. Great view. Staff was spotty - many downright unfriendly, others OK, a couple better than average.

If you look at our trip reveiw in August we thought that P.V. is great!! We still do!! The weather was soooooooo much better in March. It was nice and warm but without all the humidity. Playa Del Sol Costa Sur is a nice place to stay still, but something happend to the food. We were not impressed with it at all!! I was looking forward to it and was dissapointed everytime. I have visited Vallarta more than 30 times. I used to own a studio apartment for almost 10 years, it was located in the South Shore, or Costa Sur where this hotel is located so I had a good idea of the location and the distance to other places, however I was not aware that once you are in this hotel you are only there and you are pretty much confine to what it has, only a small beach and you cannot access other beaches by swimming or by foot. Friendly, efficient, and extremeley personable staff make up over half of this hotel's charm, while the remainder of its mystique is comprised of the building itself: a beautifully designed, old-world style haven that seems to have grown out of the cliffs of the Mexican coastline. When I return to Puerto Vallarta next year, I will stay at the Costa Vida for the third time. I honestly can't imagine staying anywhere else.
