Playa Conchas Chinas Hotel

We booked our travel with villasandcondos.com and were taken back. The presidential suite (listed as Suites Emperador on villasandcondos.com) took my breath away. Myself and 6 other women stayed and it was perfect. The rooms were large and had a Mexican decor. It was open with a large deck area, our own infinity pool and a kitchen. I've stayed at Playa Conchas Chinas twice now. The first time (in 2004) was for 3 days & the second time (in 2005) was for 10 days. Yep, a solo traveller like many others before me. It's easy. Beware of nothing! This hotel is 'what you see is what you get' material. It is history steeped on the foundations of a town which was original a fishermans village and that's why you see rocks round the bays. This hotel is muy bonito. I love its location. The Beach is very small and has big rocks not safe for children and the pool is so cold that not even the kids could take it for 1 minute!!. So if you are planning to go in the ocean and to enjoy a good soak in the pool this is not the hotel for you. They don't have a elevator but there are plenty of stairs, not good for little kids and elderly people. But the rooms are clean and they have good service

We greatly enjoyed the WIVC Conchas Chinas on the south side of the city. The 1-BR condo unit was clean, had a fantastic view, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Gabriela, the afternoon / evening concierge, was the nicest, most pleasant person you could meet. The pool was cool and refreshing. The outdoor spa was a very nice place to relax. My wife and I chose Hotel Conchas Chinas as a reasonably priced option that’s not directly downtown (too noisy) and not in the hotel zone (too Cancun-ish). I had my doubts though. Their website is poor, and very lacking in photos and information, but through emails, I was able, easily enough, to secure a deluxe suite at low season rates, and the owner waived the tax. My doubts increased as the taxi pulled up to the front office. The place looks rundown on the outside, and the open air reception area is nothing to write home about.... more

My boyfriend and I booked a room "with a private jacuzzi" at this hotel for 6 days. The instant we arrived, we began having doubts. The hotel is in the rocky non-beach area on the cliffs, which makes it fairly close to downtown but almost scary in its isolation. The sheets were filthy, the "jacuzzi" was unusable, the shower smelled of sulfur water, the floor was gross, and the view was beautiful if you looked beyond the constant construction and pickup trucks. We stayed in the Presidential suite with 2 other couples. It was incredible. You wake each morning to the sweet smell of breakfast cooking at the restaurant below. The food was awesome, the service great, very clean, great infinity pool........ We are planning our next trip back there!

With some caveats, detailed later, would return to this hotel if back in Puerto Vallarta. It is situated south of town, on a steep hillside with a beautiful view. We got a room on the 5th floor, upstairs from reception, and road noise was a bit bothersome. Other rooms are below road level. Higher probably gave a better view from the balcony, however, and all surrounding rooms on this level and above were condominium-ized. My wife, myself and our 9 year old daughter stayed here 3 nights, December 19th to the 21st 2004. We stayed in room 306 which is unique in that the balcony extendes further out than the other rooms. When we first walked in to the room we immediately walked out on to the deck, and I must say the view was as picturesque as anything I have ever seen: bright sun on white stucco surrounded by beautiful palms- unforgetable. My wife and I spent a week at Hotel Conchas Chinas in March of 2000 (possibly 99). I can't recall a better vacation. From the Hotel staff to the restaurant wait staff, everything exceeded our expectations. This is a beautiful hotel with increadable views at an unbeatable price. Don't get me wong, this is not the Ritz (I think it's better). Don't stay here if your idea of paradise is a sterile environment with no personality. Ken
