The SCHNEEBERGER HOTEL!!!!!
although the new part of the hotel was clean, the old part of the hotel was not up to standards!!! it was very dirty and FULL of flys! we ate there for 3 nights ONLY! as the food was very very poor!! so please take my advice and stay away from this hotel!! Niederau is such a lovely place so just be warnded and stay elsewhere!!

My partner and I took our 6 year old daughter here for her first ski ing experience. I can honestly say that we have never been made to feel so welcome by the family and staff at the Schneeberger. They are excellent. The food was superb and many of my ski class visited the restaurant to sample their much sought after fondue. It is true that they serve shredded pancakes with an apple sauce as a main course but this is an Austrian traditional dish and another vegetarian dish was offered as well as an option of Catfish! The breakfast was surprisingly good too with everything being freshly baked. The location is fantastic. We stayed in room 104 which is directly above the nightclub which stays open til 4am. We never heard any noise in our room even after we had visited the bar and heard the volume of the music whilst in it. The beds were sooo comfy it was just like being at home. We are intending to return to this hotel and would recommend it 100% to anyone. If we had to put in a negative to balance this review it would only be that a bath in the room would be nice but even saying that there is a jacuzzi bath downstairs which is available everyday!!!!

I booked a last minute deal for 5 for skiing in Austria (Niederau, obviously). First Choice had to change our booking a couple days before we left from the Pensions Diane to the Hotel Schneeberger; though I don't know much about Pensions Diane, i'm glad we went here. The expereience provided was superb, second-to-none because of the following;
PROs
Food - all freshly cooked at dinner, 5 courses and different every night - great quality (the fact that all the chalet staff ate here on their night off seemed to be a testiment to that)
Staff - very friendly, knowledgable and all round lovely people - from the barman to the waiting staff to the manager - all genuinely nice people.
Rooms - clean and comfortable, well details - some with great views of the church and the mountain behind. Bathroom well maintained, good room service (minor grip -only 1 english speaking tv channel).
Facilities - there was storage for our ski equipment (some hire, some personal) though we used the shop in town (which is a couple minutes walk away - I hate walking in ski boots, but even if I had kept them at the hotel this walk would have been fine). There is also a steam room, sauna and whirlpool bath (single seat, additional 1e) which could have been better maintained (in terms of heat) but all included so my grumbles aren't too long.
Skiing - niederau is quite small - perfect if you are beginning but I found it a little tiresome by the 2nd day - which meant it was good that there are frequent free buses/coaches to nearby Auffach which is higher (meaning more snow) and has many more runs and some really nice places to eat (Gispy lit - sorry, can't remember it's proper name - was built in 2007 and is a lovely wooden cabin which serves well priced lovel grub)
CONs
Facilities - hotel could have a pool (as many other hotels do) - or at least have a setup to allow us to use the open air heated pool literally yards away int he neighbouring hotel garden.
Town - the church is lovely but there are not many shops or things to do other than ski, eat and booze (so bring a good book or dvd player, etc if you fancy a break from any of these!)
Bars - there are about 4 main bars - I only put this in the cons list as we were a group of men (21-28) so a little more in the way of entertainment would be welcome (as opposed to just getting hammered every night... though it seemed to work for some!)
So, overall the hotel was superb, looked like it catered well for families and couples also and I would highly recommend it to people in future. Now if they just get some more things to do / some more pistes in Niederau this would be 9.5/10

My family and our friends have been going to the schneeberger hotel for 12 years running. This shows how much we enjoy our skiing holidays in neiderau and especially this hotel. The hotel is a family run friendly environment and they make everyone feel welcome. The food is excellent. Breakfast is a great start to the busy day ahead. The hotel is suitable for all age groups, there is a play room for children, a disco in the basement if you feel in the party mood,(which you cant hear in your room) and quiet areas if you just wish to have a drink in the bar and play cards!!! Also there is a tv in the bar normally with the latest sport action on!! It has a very austrian feel! i would recommend it to anyone. We're going in 10days and cannot wait!

Due to lack of snow, all training was on blue which proved very off-putting for the slow starters. Instructors were v.good but obviously sensitive to the lack of snow. Lifts were over worked, the 't' bar on the main blue trainer was so bad it took 40+ minutes sometimes to use it.
We stayed at the Hotel Schneeberger, the room was huge but still with just a shower and wc but very clean & modern, my wife is gluten free diet & this proved no problem, with every meal catered for with an alternative. The ski store was well heated with integral drying racks for boots. Great new sauna, steam, solarium etc but amazingly only available afternoons 3 days a week?
It was obviously an early end of the season and attitudes demonstrated this, with many cafes having staff with serious attitude problems.
Prices in this resort were not as expensive as some of the 'hip' resorts, & most meals were comparable with UK prices in average restaurants at about E10-14 for a main course, Coffee at E2.20, afternoon specials included coffee with large apple strudel at the hotel Austria at just E3.90, this was a bargain & very delicious.
I would go again, if the snow casts were very positive, alternatively I'll go to a higher resort with more likelihood of good snow & wide easy slopes open all the time.
Doctor, paramedic and hospital facilities very attentive, responsive and of high standards, all covered by e111 & your insurances, although you may have to pay for some items them reclaim so make sure your credit card is with you.

The hotel Schneeberger Hotel was lovely and friendly! A traditional Austrian hotel run by Austrians!
If you want to be served by the English then go to the Vicky!
Breakfast was continental and always beautifully laid out, bread, cheese, meats, cereal, yoghurt etc.
If your a committed tea drinker, I would recommend taking tea bags, as they offer Ceylon tea which didn't satisfy everyone in our party!
Dinner was always 5 courses and it was lovely! It was wholesome, home cooked food, with some interesting choices e.g. spag bol as a starter!
If you require gourmet food then this is not the hotel for you! If however you wish for tasty, hot, well presented, Austrian fayre then this is the place for you!
Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff and they even kept our half drunk bottles of red wine for the next meal, which we were very much impressed by.
The rooms were clean and airy and we had a balcony which was nice!
I would highly recommend this fab 3 star hotel; it’s much nicer than the 4 star Hilton I used to work in.
Niederau is also lovely.

A great little hotel in a beautiful setting. The rooms are first class - bright and airy with lots of space. The balcony is a mass of flowers and has spectacular views over the Alps.
The food is good wholesome home cooking, with generous portions, and is served efficiently by the friendly staff. The only thing that lets the hotel down is the reception area which is a little tired looking and doesn't make a good first impression.
It was great value for money and my husband and I cannot wait to return to this hotel.

Accommodation is good, a shame about the quality of food and packed lunches for the British clients.
The packed lunch for the British consisted of one ham and cheese roll and an apple or nectarine.
The salad bar consisted of four items, always a bowl of lettuce, then a bowl of potato salad which was not freshly made, or a noodle mixture of chopped up noodles, egg, cheese and mayonnaise, a bowl of grated carrot or sliced pickled carrots, a bowl or beetroot or pickled cabbage.
The evening meal was the worst food I have ever had, even going back to the Spanish holidays of 20 years ago. Any vegetables we had were over cooked, and always the same frozen mixed vegetables.
On the last night, the vegetarian main meal was sweet pancakes with apple sauce! and no I am not making this up.
The previous nights dessert was 'apple mousse' which consisted of a quarter of a dish of apple puree. This just about sums up the 'home cooking' of this place. I would definitely NOT recommend this place to any one. However, I would recommend eating lunch at the Rubezahi Hutte at the top of the Markbachjoch. Their potato salad is definitely homemade.

My partner and I stayed at the Schneeberger in March for our first skiing holiday. The hotel was great, very clean, the room was great and the staff were very friendly. The food was fantastic and if there was anything you didn’t like then they would change it for you.
We would definitely stay there again without a doubt. The hotel has a nightclub but you never heard it. It was very quiet. The only thing with the room is there was only a shower and after a days skiing a soak in the bath would have been lovely.
Also just take your own travel kettle and tea bags if you like a cuppa.
